 The Ravenclaw common room is a wide, circular room at the top of the seventh floor. Graceful arched windows punctuate the walls, which are hung with blue-and-bronze silks. During the day, Ravenclaws have a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Overhead, the ceiling is domed and painted with stars, which are echoed in the midnight-blue carpet. There are tables, chairs, and bookcases, and in a niche opposite the door stands a tall statue of white marble: Rowena Ravenclaw. A delicate-looking circlet has been reproduced in marble on her head with the tiny words 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure' etched into the diadem. The statue stands beside a door that leads up to the dormitories above.

Neptune dabbed at her nose with the hanky again. "Well. Ellsworth, of course. I had to owl her about some .... stuff." She turned her big blue eyes his way, sizing him up a bit. He was either playing dumb, or he hadn't read. So... to show him...? Hmmm. Tricky. Neptune always wanted Kellen's attention, and then some, but... this wouldn't be the right sort of attention.

"...stuff..." Kellen had no problem meeting her eyes when she looked him over, but he still had no idea what was going on. When the wet, squishy parchment started sneaking into view, one of his eyebrows twitched upwards. That, most probably, was the source of the red nose that he was not mentioning.
"Well," he gave in to his earlier temptation and snuggled his spine along the top of the couch, turning so his feet were at the far end. Nobody, especially not Neptune, wanted feet in their face, "I haven't seen those boots yet, have I? I'm sure you would have pointed them out to me if I was being dense and missed them." | |

Kellen wasn't overly fond of making scenes, unless they were centered around some tiny detail of his life that he didn't like and then expanded into a bluster-filled tirade. At least those, people could laugh at without feeling mean-spirited.
He took the soggy scrap of paper from her, and while his left thumb worked at getting the thing unfolded his right arm went around her waist. Stomach. Whatever.

Kellen sent a sympathetic smile her way, wondering how many more of his friends would feel the sting of the Aparecium in such a cruel way. Gossip columns weren't something he frequented, but it seemed that everyone he knew was on the bad side of the anonymous writers. Then again, hadn't Sabel said something about Lexi contributing?
"Considerate of her." If his family were the Botts, he could almost guarantee they would send him beans if he were upset.
He didn't move his arm from around her, but just hugged her a little more. Maybe it was a 'gossip parchments are full of fibs and lies' hug, or maybe it was a 'I'm falling off the couch and need something to grab' hug. Or maybe it was just a hug. Options abounded. | |

The little hug, as sweet and well meant as Neptune knew he intended it to be, was all it took. It was the confirmation that this sucked, much like Ellsworth's gifts had been. It triggered the tears, the big kind that defied gravity for longer than should be possible.
"I'll have the House elves bring you the cookies over," Neptune told Kellen, just before fleeing the Common Room.
She DID stop at the stairs and turn back to Kellen. "Sorry," she mouthed, then disappeared back into her dorm room.
