Celandine waved at Keeley, smiling brightly in return at the younger girl. She looked adorable in her pigtails and nomming on blue cupcakes.
Pigtails. Humm.
Absently, Cela flicked her wand a few times and her own hair rearranged itself into pigtails.
"You're so nice." Cela answered. "I hope I can live up to the example Livvy set, and Evee and Anna before her." Though the other two weren't 'claws, Cela had deeeeefinitely learned a lot from them.
Mostly about flirting.
"We can arrange a practice session anytime, you know where to find me!" Cela did tend to be everywhere.
"And I helped us lose the championship when we were still number one." Cela answered cheerfully. Gosh it had been fun, even when a bludger smashed her nose. Her first ever Quidditch game, it was the championship against hufflepuff, and they lost. Thats what happened when you put a reckless flyer who couldn't actually land properly on the pitch.
She did a much better job as a cheerleader and with Mariel and Becca around and hopefully trying out, Nia would be well on her way to reassembling a team of awesome.
Willow would be pleased, Cela hoped.
"It doesn't cancel out Gobstones because Slytherin held the Gobstones cup for three years before we went in there and got it. In fact I don't think Ravenclaw have been Gobstones champions at all in the last 50 years. Its a biiiig deal!" Cela encouraged.
"As for my 7th year, its hard knowing that its almost the end, but its so exciting seeing Ravenclaw together like this. Its teamwork that gets us through everything after all."
And Ravenclaws definitely had a lot of house pride.
"I'm going to be in the stands cheering for the Quidditch matches." She was looking forward to it actually. Cela looked up as she heard someone start playing music, spotted Becca and was about to rush over there when someone bumped into her and started talking to the other girl.
It was okay, Cela would catch her in the dorm later.
Hearing a couple younger girls talking about points Celandine alternatively nodded and shook her head.
"Slytherin don't work together enough to be any threat at the house cup, no need to worry about them. The last time they won the cup, they didn't get awarded it because they got 2000 points unfairly." Though Cela had thought it was kind of genius, "That was in my first term. They aren't a unit as a house any more, not like we are."
Yup. All true.
"As for earning points, definitely don't suck up to the teachers. Some of them will take points if you try that. All you need to do is go to class, do your homework and help others even if they aren't Ravenclaw. Be active, join clubs, work hard and help where you can." Yup. All of these things were the reason Cela had been in the top 5 for every single term except her second, and number one in the house for her first, third, fourth and fifth years, top in the school for third fourth and fifth years too.
She noticed a firstie crying in an armchair and immediately her expression turned to one of concern.
"Are you okay?"
Keeley smiled brightly at the girl. Cela had always been somewhat of a rolemodel to her, even though the brand new head gal had never known. And... wait... Cela had just copied her hair. She had started a trend! Sweet. She fingered the scar on her cheek, aaand continued nomming on the blue deliciousness. Yummmm.

"How was it?" he asked, not knowing what else to ask. "Did you like it?" he realized that she'd probably been getting questions like that a lot, but he mentally shrugged it off. Oh well. She'd answer if she wanted.
"Oh really?" Abby said, interested. "Who is she? Is she at Hogwarts now?"
When he started to ask about what Salem was like, Abby smiled and shrugged. "I did very much like it," she replied. "It's not unlike Hogwarts, I think. It was a boarding school, like here, except it was all-girls and not big and castle-y." Well, maybe she had already mentioned the big and castle-y part. Ohh, and obviously there were no awesome English accents. Hah!
Breaking off some more of her cupcake, Nia ate it slowly as she patiently waited for Mariel's explanation. Something told her that her friend needed to do it in her own time - and she felt a little guilty that she had been so overenthusiastic to know what Mariel had been upto, she'd overlooked the fact it could be a negative or uncomfortable reason.
She nodded as Mariel explained about the werewolves. That had been pretty scary, and although she'd convinced her parents it was okay and she wanted to return, Theo had seemed completely the opposite. Mariel's father's reaction was totally natural really. And then Mariel lowered her voice, and Nia swallowed. That had been a bit of a shock at the time. Even though she barely knew the people involved.
"Understandable really," Nia said after a moment's thought. "I mean, in hindsight it all makes sense. Even if I missed you tons. I think quite a few moved on that year, worried about the safety issues." She offered a kind smile. The friendly warmly type, that shows she understood and cared. And that she would always be there. "Soooooo," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "Durmstrang! What is it like? Isn't it mainly boys...anyone cute?" The thing about wizarding schools was that they were so secretive...so inside information about the reality of being at one, Nia wanted to know.
Nia grimaced at Mariel's look of surprise at Ravenclaw having lost. "I know," Nia said, finding her friends hand actually quite comforting, considering she'd been reliving not catching the snitch quite a lot over the summer. "Not many can have claimed to have semi-crashed into Prof V and knocked him into a muddy puddle in their first match as seeker, and then knocked themselves out and broken their broom in two in their second." Ravenclaw Seeker's curse, definitely.
"Keeper is where it's at," Nia agreed with a smile. She'd had pretty much a clean sheet last year as Keeper. And then Tibi had got himself injured...and that's where it went wrong. She broke off a bit of cake, and chewed it thoughtfully. "Though I'm not sure whether to Keep, Beat or Chase this year." It was hard, having to make the decision for herself. She liked playing all three. Perhaps she'd decide after seeing who else she had at tryouts. "I like them all, and for different reasons." But would Captaining as well make them harder?
She laughed. "We will indeed. I'm going to try my best." Oh yes, Captain was something she'd dreamed about. And now she was there, she wanted to hold the Cup in her hands. Actually, in her hands both years would be perfect. "Ahhh, yes, that's what we were doing. False sense of security - it was all a clever tactical decision." Her turquoise eyes twinkled as she mocked nodding knowingly.
"You should, you really should!" Nia almost gave Mariel a stern look for doubting herself, but instead settled for some motivation. "You were a natural flyer, talent doesn't desert you that easily. And I'm willing to do extra practice to get you on top form..." She raised her eyebrows hopefully. She'd tryout? Yes? Yes.
"I missed you too," Mariel said quietly, softly returning Nia's smile. That part had been the hardest about going to a new school - missing her friends... and having to make new ones. She picked a little more at the last of her cupcake then looked up as Nia seemed quite interested in Durnstrang. Biting her lip a little as she tried to supress a smile, the nearly 17 year old said, "Well, I don't know about mainly boys, but, yes, there are quite a few of them there." Probably more boys than girls, though, the more she thought about it. "There were some cute ones, too..." she trailed off, blushing slightly. One especially, in particular. "Er.. can I ask your advice?" Mariel asked, not exactly changing the subject, just diverting it a little. "Do you remember Nathaniel? He was my boyfriend for a couple months before I left here.." She couldn't quite remember if she ever talked to Nia about him before she left, having only been with him for a short time, but even if she didn't, she was sure Nia could give her some advice about the situation.
Her surprise at Ravenclaw not winning the Quidditch Cup turned into stifled giggles as her hand did its best to prevent their escape from her mouth. If only she had been there to witness the mud-covered Professor V... although the knocking yourself out bit wouldn't have been too pleasant. "Professor V in a mud puddle is kinda funny, though, even if it did cost us the snitch," she said with a sympathetic smile and light shrug, trying to lighten the mood a little. That was all in the past and this term they would regain what was rightfully theirs.
She thought over Nia's pondering over which position she wanted to play, and Mariel had the same issue. Which would she prefer? Most likely Keeper, providing she actually made the team this year and that she did decide to try out. "I'm sure you'll be great whatever you play," she confirmed with a grin and nod. Her grin grew wider as her fellow sixth year agreed with her about winning this year.
Mariel took a deep breath and stared at Nia for a moment, carefully thinking about try outs. Quidditch was one of her favorite things, an obsession really at one time, but it also had been a long time ago. Could she get back in top form in such little time? Nia seemed to have confidence in her. Maybe she should. "Okay," she finally said with some hesitation. "I think I'll try out."

Nia seemed to have confidence in her. Maybe she should. "Okay," she finally said with some hesitation. "I think I'll try out."
Nia nodded as Mariel answered her question about the boys. And then she caught that blush. "Oh yes?" Nia questioned with a twinkle in her eye, and a raised eyebrow. She was about to ask if there might be one cute boy in particular that Mariel liked, but her friend spoke again first. "Of course," Nia said a bit more seriously. "Though I can't guarantee if it'll be of use." She tilted her head slightly, wondering what sort of advice her friend was after.
Nathanial? Nia narrowed her eyes in thought. She seemed to vaguely remember him...but couldn't really put a face to the name. "Sort of, but not much... Maybe I saw you together rather than spoke much." she replied still trying to think. She had a distinct feeling that would have been right about the time she and Elan got together, and so she'd been spending more time at the Huffie table. "Why...?" she asked softly, wondering quite where he fitted between Durmstrang, a cute boy and Nia giving advice.
Nia smiled. In hindsight, it was quite funny. Though at the time she'd been expecting an extra cross Head of House. Losing the match, and the seekers knocking him into mud? She'd been pretty nervous as she'd stood up to face Prof V! "'Twas complete mud bath that day. Nearly had a mud fight, though that was stopped pretty quickly." She chuckled. "Right boggy it was. Probably a good thing - softer landing. Else I'd have gone through two brooms in two games..." That wouldn't have been good. She'd been properly disappointed to lose her trusted broom in that last match. But it'd snapped clean in half, and it wouldn't have been safe to fix it. Instead she was the proud owner of a shiny new broom courtesy of her parents. It was a higher spec than she'd expected (or asked for) and she had a feeling being made captain had probably had something to do with it. She certainly wasn't going to complain.
"Great at a position and the best possible are different things," Nia replied with a slight frown. And then she still had to make the decisions about the other players. Ack! "I guess I'll go with what is best with the rest of the team though." She smiled. Just talking about it out loud was good. Settled her nerves. Oh yes, she was nervous about it all inside, even if she'd never knowingly show it. Picking a team was feeling quite daunting in many ways.
At Mariel's hesitation, Nia looked hopeful and crossed her fingers. She knew her friend would regret it if she didn't tryout. And then Mariel finally made up her mind. "Yay!" Nia beamed, and squeezed her friend tight. "Awesome stuff. You'll be fine - once you're up in the air, it'll be like you were never away!"
Damon got himself from food and looked around for a suitable place to sit. Many of the areas were already occupied by so many students so he decided that he would just stand to make things easier. He started looking around trying to see if Bonnie was anywhere nearby.
Timothy sighed, he took another drink. It was his second year now, so many of his prior friends were gone, moved to other schools....some had even died. It was a sad moment in his life. But still he was here to celebrate....even if it was winding down...there was still plenty to eat and drink.....to drown the sorrows that enveloped him like a dark shadow.
Bonnie sighed and gritted her teeth. Her teeth clenched as she brought the glass up to her lips. She held her glass so tightly, a voice in her head was screaming, 'CAREFUL! It'll BREAK!' Then, saw Damon and almost dropped the glass. Color filled her cheeks.
Miles leaned against the wall kind of away from everyone. The one bad thing about his new medication...it didn't make him feel like himself. Taking a sip of his juice his eyes scanned the crowd. He wished Fia was here. He wished he'd forgotten to take his pills...he wished a lot of things and yet he couldn't get any of the things he wished.
Max looked at the time and knew that it the fun had to end soon. So he pulled Lainey with him over to a sturdy wooden table. "Don't run. Just stand there and smile and wave. Make the students realize that you are happy to be here," he whispered to her before climbing onto the table.
He pulled out his wand and held it to his neck while using the Sonorus spell.
Vindictus's voice boomed throughout the common room and over the chatter of the students.
"Students of Ravenclaw, this beautiful and intelligent woman standing to my left is Professor Lainey, the History of Magic professor. Please give her a warm welcome," he announced cheerfully to the house and began clapping.
The applause lasted for several minutes and then he continued with his speech.
"Ravenclaws, I want to take this time to remind all of you that this celebration is for last term's achievements. We won the House Cup after an intense race and for the first time in house history, claimed the Gobstones Club trophy. Well done, Ravenclaw!"
"Yet, we cannot rest on our laurels from the past. This is a new term and we must start all over again. Every one of you needs to help your House this term. Commit yourself to earning points through class participation and homework. Do good deeds for others. Show up at the Quidditch and Gobstone matches to support Ravenclaw. Get involved in other school activities. Show the other houses that Ravenclaw is the very best!"
Dramatic pause.
"Our House has an illustrious heritage. We are the house where wit and intelligence reign supreme. We are the house that always rises to the occasion. We are Ravenclaw and may we continue to soar!"
Vindictus glanced at Miles and Cela. Did they want to say something, too?

Timothy raised his glass to the new professor. Interesting, this school went through teachers like nothing else. It seemed every time he turned around, either one had retired, or died....or had met a mysterious end.
Well at least it kept a bit of tension in the air. Perhaps the constant changes taught the students how to expect life outside school. The Department of Magic went through people as well. People burned out, died, or disappeared all the time. This would be Timothy's fate....
"Oh really?" Abby said, interested. "Who is she? Is she at Hogwarts now?"
When he started to ask about what Salem was like, Abby smiled and shrugged. "I did very much like it," she replied. "It's not unlike Hogwarts, I think. Ohh, and obviously there were no awesome English accents. Hah!
Kel shook his head. "No, I think she still goes to Salem. Unless she's being homeschooled now..." he trailed off, thinking. "But I'm sure her parents wouldn't allow her to go to a coed school." Thank Merlin for that.
He half-smiled when she brought up - again - how Hogwarts was big and castle-y. "Was it small, then?" he asked, tipping his head a bit to one side.

Vindictus glanced at Miles and Cela. Did they want to say something, too?
Well. That was, um, inspirational. Kel smiled to himself. He was already doing better in classes than he had previously - and along with his goal to go to every quidditch match, he was following Professor V's suggestions very well. He just needed to get involved with the school activities more, and maybe go support Ravenclaw at the Gobstones games. Easy enough, right? He could do it.
Miles' attention went to Professor V as he stood on a table and began to make a speech. Raising his glass at the end of it he took a sip of his drink and smirked. Looking around at everyone he could feel the medicine starting to wear off a bit as he got his old edge back. But, instead of taking another like he was supposed to he grinned and jumped on a near by table. Looking around as attention drew to him he looked at Professor V and raised his glass.
"To Professor V." He smiled and looked around at everyone, "I don't know how many of you know me but I'm Miles one of the Prefects." He grinned at everyone, "And we have a legacy that needs to be filled! We need to prove to everyone out there that WE ARE STILL THE BEST!" He looked at a few people he knew and then back at Vindictus, "We need to do all we can to get both cups and the Gobstone Trophy." Turning his attention back toward the crowd he stood up straight, "I dare every one of you to get as many points as you can as, to try your hardest, to get others to help you and to push everyone so we can WIN! What do you say?" He smirked and raised his glass, "RAVENCLAW! RAVENCLAW! RAVENCLAW!" he began chanting trying to get everyone into the spirit of things.
The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.
William raised his glass and whistled as professor V made his speech, feeling the exictement in the room overflow to the point where he was going to break out into a jig on the table - after eating copious amounts of chocolate of course. "Hear hear!" he exclaimed, not as loudly as he would have preferred though. He was already doing amazingly well for his year, something he was proud of. The only thing he needed to work on was his social skills, but he could work on that after the homework was completed.
Listening to Miles, the prefect he hadn't met yet he raised his glass once more grinned wildly. Yup he was hyper that's for sure he thought. This is what he had needed really, a celebration of their achievements. Not his though; he hadn't been here last term, family problems getting the better of him, traveling all over the place. He felt that this wasn't for him but for everyone else but he clapped loudly all the same.

Keeley skipped back to the couch that she had been sitting on with William earlier, chocolate cupcake still being nommed on. Nom nom nom. She plopped back down again and cheered and NYC style whistled at the speeches. And grabbed some more gummi bears from her new buddy. He could be considered a buddy, right? Eh, it didn't matter. Celandine supposed it was her turn. She'd had her attention caught by Professor V when he made Max happen, and by Miles being... Miles.
She chanted a bit of course. Who could resist saying Ravenclaw over and over. Then she levitated a chair over to herself, stood on it and made sure she could be heard.
Hush nao plz?
Cela smiled sweetly.
"I never thought for a moment that Hogwarts would mean so much to me. I was excited about the learning, sure, but the house stuff?" She peeked at Professor Lainey.
"In my first year there was no Hogwarts, but there was still a Ravenclaw and plenty of spirit. It didn't take me long to realise that this house is where I belong, and I don't think that will ever change. Once a 'claw, always a 'claw." Cela smiled around at the firsties and the new students, her expression seeming to say 'you're one of us now'.
"Ravenclaws care about each other, not just about books and grades. Thats why we're strong even when others think we're weak. Because we help each other learn even while we are learning for ourselves. We respect each other and ourselves. We respect the heritage of our house and we know how to carry ourselves with dignity and integrity. But we also know how to have fun! We know that hard work pays off and once we've given our all, its time to celebrate! Thats something we should hold to." She smiled sweetly and then lifted her voice louder.
"I'll be there in the stands during the Quidditch games, cheering like mad and waving my pom poms and supporting the team. Win or lose they're out there doing their best and thats what we should all strive for. Gobstones, I'll be right there risking gunk getting spat in my face," Which wouldn't happen, she was good with those little marbles.
"And I'll be doing my bit for the house cup. It feels good to be a big part of everything but even the little stuff counts. Every bit matters. Earn a point or earn twenty, its still a step closer to where we belong. At the top."
She looked around again, catching everyone's eyes in turn.
"Will you stand with me? Will you soar with me? Will you do your part? I'll help each and every one of you, any one of you who needs me for anything at all. All I ask is that you stand with me and show me you are as Loyal as any Badger, Courageous as any Lion, Ambitious as any Snake. Aside from our heads, what we have are our hearts. It makes us strong. And I know you can all do it."
Cela's eyes were shining. Ravenclaw meant a lot to her. Her world was here, it had been expanded here, she'd been part of everything and it had shaped her. Now she wanted to help with the shaping. She held her hand out to Miles, intending for him to help her up on the table. She smiled at her co-prefect and addressed the whole house again.
"Will you stand with us, Ravenclaw?" Cela asked, quieter now, but no less intent.

Miles bounced slightly as people started to get into it and even started chanting with him. That was so cool. As Cela stood up on a chair and spoke he grinned and nodded. Taking her hand he helped her up on the table beside him and looked out at everyone, "Stand with us and show that we...we are a house united. We know what we want and we'll strive to get it." He looked at Cela and wrapped his arm around her with a smile. They could do this. They could lead their house together.
The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.
"Woo we can do it!" William shouted as he drained his glass, hefting it up and bouncing on his toes. Yes he was excited, yes he was practically living off of candy right now, but he was happy and excited and hyper and bouncy and everything in between. Running back over to the food table he grabbed a bunch of snacks, mainly chocolate cup cakes and headed back to the couch where he had met Keeley. Grinning at her he said, "You excited?" in a cheery bouncy voice.

Ty, who had spent the whole of this celebration running to and fro, looking utterly delighted by the prospect of Ravenclaw winning the house cup AND gobstones last year. They were simply awesome. And really WICKEDLY COOOOOL.
Munching happily on yet another sandwich - Hogwarts had AMAZING food! - Ty forced himself to settle down and listen as Professor V began speaking. But it was hard to stay still when he said stuff like THAT. The soon-to-be thirteen year old boy literally began bouncing up and down, his tiny figure practically glowing energy and happiness.
And then Miles -he said that was his name- spoke and Ty began to chant along with everyone else. RAVENCLAW WERE THE BEST!!!! They were wicked cool, SUPAH SMART, intelligent, awesome, really really really reall BRILLIANT and... well, loads of other UBER AWESOME stuff that wouldn't come to mind now.
When Cela spoke, Ty all but burst with excitement. HE WANTED TO CHEER TOOOOOO!!!! He'd have to talk to her about that later. . . But it seemed she was pausing, so he wanted over to the Head Girl and the prefect, a MASSIVE grin on his tiny face as he gazed up at the two with an idolising expression.
"That was AWESOME. We 'claws are just AMAZING. And AWESOME. And WICKED COOOOOOL," Ty's little head nodded a little too vigorously. "I'll DEFINITELY soar with you! And can I cheer too?? That will be SO COOL!"
Cue much jumping. He wanted to be SEEN by them! Hehe. RAVENCLAW!! RAVENCLAAAAWWWWW!!!!!
