What in the world did that taste like?
"Just do it by hand. There's a sink where you can wash your hands afterward." she said, opening the little thing of cream of tartar. Eh. Powdery...smell. Not really, and she really wasn't about to go and sniff it either. Wait...she forgot something.
Measuring spoons. Now, where would she find those?
Well, jeeeeez.
Wasn't Evelyn all snippy today? Perhaps she was just SO hungry that she was taking out her anger on Destiny. Yeah, that was what Destiny was going to think, even if it had nothing to do with hunger. Since her friend couldn't break egg with magic, did that mean she could break them the muggle way?
Pffft, Destiny didn't care at the moment. It was time to break eggs! And break eggs she did. One at a time she picked up an egg out of the container and gently tapped it against the side of the mixing bowl. When there was a obvious crack, she placed her thumbs at either side of the crack and opened the egg, making the white land safely into the bowl. Voila! One down, eleven to go.
As the last egg white landed into the bowl, Destiny did a quick check to make sure none of the shell had landed inside. Nope. Not one egg shell was in the bowl!!
Then she had to beat them eggs, haha!! Placing the whisk inside the mixing bowl, since Evelyn still hadn't found the measuring spoons, Destiny gave a swish and flick of her wand, "Wingardium Leviosa." As the bowl floated, and this time it did not go too high, she tapped her wand against the side, "Fixate." Mwaha! The bowl was in place, and she still wanted to try that spell on Evelyn. Perhaps in the dorms, when she was asleep. "Locomotor spoon." she said, turning her wand in a clockwise direction.
Now to wait. Wait one long minute, pffft.
OOC: You can say the eggs are done being..whisked so you can add the ingredients, if you want too!

Yummy. Buttercream. "I do know one," he told her as he tried to remember the recipe that he used.
He took out his wand and summoned the confectioners sugar, vanilla, butter, and whipping cream.
When they finished floating over to him, he summoned a bowl so that he could mix it all together.
He got 3 cups of the sugar and 1 cup of butter ready and added them both to the bowl before mixing them together with magic until they were well blended. Then he added a teaspoon of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of cream. He mixed these in until it was all well blended together.
Then he summoned a little bowl and poured a tiny bit of the frosting in there so it could be turned orange for his cupcake.

Seriously, the Professor should have like, labeled everything in the room or something. Or had arrows pointing to where things are and such.
Growing through practically every drawer in the room, except anywhere near the Professor's desk since, just ew-ith...teacher germs... Evelyn finally found the measuring spoons and sighed in relief and annoyance. It took long enough to find them!
But, skipping back to where Destiny and their cupcake stuff was, she took a small bowl and measured out the 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Cream of Tartar, and placed it into the bowl. Then measuring the 1/4 teaspoon of salt, Evelyn placed that right into the bowl as well, before measuring the 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract...
The egg whites, were seriously taking forever to get all...frothy...or whatever the instructions said. Well, whatever. It seemed good enough. If foamy meant frothy, than it was done. Picking up the bowl, she slowly added in the ingredients, making sure everything was in there before going back to reading the instructions again. "Are you sure we should wait to pre-heat the oven?" she asked, glancing at Destiny. They hadn't done that yet!

"There."
Cadence stood back and just watched Torin make the frosting. He was probably getting tired of it taking her so long to do everything, but that was okay with her. Right as Torin finished turning his icing orange, the timer went off on the oven. Once again, she would let Torin deal with the hot things. "Okay! I'll do the rest of the colors!" she said with a smile. Summoning 6 more little bowls, Cadence divided the icing up evenly between each bowl and set them on the counter top. Pointing her wand at the first at the first one, she said, "Colorus Revolvo Red!" and the icing immediately turned red. Smiling, she continued going down the bowls, making one each for yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Now, the cupcakes just needed to cool so they could frost them and top them with the rest of the sprinkles that they hadn't put in the batter.

Cadence nodded and stood there patiently for about five whole seconds before she started getting fidgety. Standing still was not one of her strong points. Evelyn was..SKIPPING! What in the name of Merlin happened to her friend over the summer? Destiny was going to have to have a liiiitle talk with Evelyn's uncle and see what went on during their vacation. Maybe she ate something, something that she had cooked herself, and it was poisoned! It mussed up her brain.
Waiting as Evelyn measured everything, Destiny read the text again. Why couldn't she remember this little bit of instructions!? Hmm, Evelyn had then asked a good question. Looking up from her book, she saw a few people already had their ovens on, and she could vaguely remember the Professor tell someone they could turn on their ovens. Oops. "No, I'm not sure. But I will go turn it on anyway." Like, what was the worst that could happen? Reaching the oven, she slowly turned the dial until it reached 350 degrees. Oven preheated!
Walking back to Evelyn, she saw that it was time for the next step. Excellent! That meant they were one step closer to being done with this baking. And that meant they were one step closer to being able to EAT these cupcakes. "You have to mix that," she said pointing to the bowl, "for four looong minutes."
That can be arranged *shifty* and I totally laughed at the joke.

Watching Destiny turn on the oven, knowing exactly what she was doing since Evelyn had studied it over the summer!, she looked back down at the instructions again to make sure they had done everything right and in order. Apart from the preheating problem thing. Yup! Seemed like everything was going good.
Hmm? SHE had to mix it? Why not just do that spell thingy? Hehe. On high speed! "Fine." she mumbled, pointing her wand at the already levitating whisk/bowl thing. "Locomotor Spoon." she said, turning her wand around in a clockwise circle in a rather medium speed. There. Now it won't take so long for the stuff to mix together.
"This...is soooo difficult." she muttered, a small smile on her face as she leaned against the table, watching the whisk go round and round and round. "Baking definitely won't take hours anymore, and plus, I won't have to feel like I ran a marathon."
Adelyn was more the pleased that the lesson involved backing cupcakes; baking was one of her favorite things, and the fact that she got to add magic into her normal baking routine only made it so much better.
With a quick glance at the recipe, Adelyn began gathering the ingredients the recipe called for, and after measuring them all accurately, put them all into the mixing bowl. She then proceeded to give a swish and flick of her wand and said, "Wingardium Leviosa." She smiled as the bowl floated up, without going too high, she tapped her wand against the side of the bowl and said, "Fixate." The bowl was in place, and she then said, "Locomotor spoon." and continued to turn her wand in a clockwise direction, mixing the batter together. While she mixed the cupcake batter together, Adelyn glanced down at the rest of the instructions for the recipe.
Quote:
Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cupcakes Recipe Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. If desired, line cupcake pans with paper liners. You may also spray cupcake pas with a butter and flour combination spray that can be found in your local grocery store.
Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix at low speed for 30 seconds while scraping bowl. Mix at high speed for 3 minutes, scraping bowl every minute.
Spoon cupcake batter into liners until they are 1/2 to 2/3 full. You should have enough batter for 24-36 cupcakes.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 10 minutes in pans then move to wire rack to cool completely.
Frost your peanut butter and chocolate cupcakes any way you want. You could even try just spreading extra peanut butter as your frosting.
Adelyn turned the dial on the oven, preheating it to 350 degrees, while she continued turning her wand clockwise, mixing the cupcakes. She had to do that for three more minutes, and it would take the oven five minutes to heat. Finally, the mixing was done and pointing her wand at the bowl, she said "Finite." and managed to catch the bowl as it dropped, some batter splashing out but not enough to make a complete mess. She referenced the directions again as she placed the bowl on the counter. Adelyn pulled out the cupcakes pans next, two and lined them with cupcake liners, and then, flicking her wand at the bowl filled with batter, said "Wingardium Leviosa." and pour the batter evenly into the liners without touching the bowl. This is so much easier than normal baking! She thought to herself as she finished pouring it into the pans, and said "Finite" to bring the bowl back onto the countertop. Adelyn placed the trays into the open oven, and then closed the door, setting the timer for 20 minutes.
Then she grabbed another bowl and gathered the ingredients used in her mum's icing recipe to make the icing while the cupcakes baked. Adelyn said "Wingardium Leviosa." to levitate the bowl and then "Fixate." and "Locomotor spoon." to begin mixing using her wand, turning it clockwise until the icing was fluffy and delicious-looking. "Finite." She said as the bowl dropped into her hands; she stuck her finger into the icing to taste it. Yum, just like mum's. She thought to herself, then looked at the timer. Ten more minutes. Adelyn began cleaning up the mess she had made while she waited for the timer to go off.
Ellie sighed at her lonesomeness. Oh well. Not that she minded. Well, she did. Especially since she saw friends. They had already started though. And now she was on her own. Unless she worked with someone she didn't know. She shook her head. She'd better just start.
She had the bowl on the counter and added flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" she said, raising the bowl into the air. "Fixate!" and it stayed. Then came, "Locomotor spoon!" in the spinning motion.
She sighed as the ingredients mixed together, wishing she had someone to talk to.

"Mmhmm," Lexi answered, nodding her head in reply. This wasn't the first time a student had asked a question about preheating the oven. She sort of eyed the students, hoping everyone was doing alright with the baking. There hadn't been any fires yet, so she guessed everyone was doing just fine. One could hope at least. "You preheat the oven ahead of time, and it'll be good and hot by the time you're ready to pop the cupcakes in. When you're ready just hit the preheat button until it's at the temperature you need. Then when the oven's nice and hot, it'll beep to let you know it's ready."

Loving this class more than anything he gulped, wondering if any of the recipes had pineapple in them. It wouldn’t be good if he touched that stuff he knew. Looking around nervously he sighed watching as she performed the spells. He knew the levitation spell already so that was good, but the other spells were new to him. Which was great since he loved learning new spells.
Standing up to have better motion with his wand he flicked his wrist, the wand shooting out into his hand before pointing and swishing and flicking his wand at the bowl in front of him. “Wingardium Leviosa.” he said confidentially as he stood there smiling. The bowl easily went to him and he levitated it a few inches away from him as he tapped the edge and said “Fixate.” in a calm voice. The bowl and whatever was wrong with it was automatically fixed and he nodded. That spells was handy he thought wondering if it would work on his school bag which had a mark on it.
With his bowl still floating in front of him he swished and flicked his wand again making the wooden spoon come towards him. Levitating it into the bowl he frowned; what was the other spell Locomotor something right? Right! Grinning he pointed his wand at the spoon and began turning it in a clockwise gesture as he muttered, “Locomotor spoon.” at the object, watching as it began moving in the direction he indicated. Sweet, it was a good thing he knew spells he thought looking up for further instructions. Once he had gotten the hang of it he stopped the spell, his hand going under the bowl as he said “Finite.” in a clear voice. The bowl and spoon dropped onto his hand and he placed them on the tabletop.
Now for the actual baking part, how fun would that be? He knew exactly which cup cakes he wanted to bake too; homemade chocolate chip. He looked around though wondering if he’d have to do it by himself. He didn’t mind, at least he’d know that there wasn’t any pineapples in it. Grabbing an apron he grinned, knowing which color he wanted to change it too. Putting it on and tying it properly he took his wand again, knowing he should have done this beforehand but not caring. Pointing his wand at his apron he swished to the right, then to the left in a circular motion as he said “Colorus Revolvo blue!” Instantly his apron turned blue and he grinned. Perfect he thought.
Now to get to baking. He wasn’t sure if he wanted a partner or not. “Erm professor, is there any pineapple in these recipes? I’m allergic to it you see and well, I don’t want to visit the nurse.” he said his hand in the air nervously.
Lexi shook her head in reply to the question about pineapples. "No, not unless you add them. That's an ingredient that doesn't normally come in any type of cupcake mix, so you'll be safe," she answered. She didn't blame him about not wanting to see the nurse. After all, who wanted to be sick?

This had her puzzled though she knew how to do it by hand, the whole point of the lesson was baking with your wand, so she'd probably want to ask how to do that.
Lexi looked thoughtful for a few seconds as she considered the best answer to the girl's question. "Several charms have been tried, but in the end, most were very unsuccessful or either more complicated than the muggle method," she admitted. "I think you'd be better off separating it by hand for now, although, it may be something you'd want to experiment with later on."
Simon smiled as Chris said it was okay, cool he didn't want to upset the headboy, he really thought that Chris was kind and sweet. "Did it taste okay?" Simon asked suddenly having the urge to laugh. "So does it pass the taste test?" Simon hoped it did but he'd get to try it later.
"I'm glad." Simon said as he looked up at the older boy, he hoped he could work with him again in some other class he never seemed to get angry about anything and that was a good thing. "I think it is too."
Simon watch as Chris stired the mixture then stopped what came next he wasn't expecting Chris almost didn't catch the bowl in time but he somehow manage it. "Phew." Simon let out a soft phew sound. "I thought that was going all over the floor." Simon nudged Chris.
Simon took a spoon and fulled his half of the tray with the mixture. "Okay now do we get to eat it?" He asked he didn't want to wait for it to cook, anyway why cook it.
Chris was having so much fun, and only smiled wider when Simon asked how it was. "Well it wasn't my prefered way to try it but it was very good and definately passes the taste-test."
After making sure that the bowl was safely placed away from the edge of the table top, Chris felt a nudge at his side and heard Simon speak. "Oh you noticed that?" he asked, his cheeks beginning to blush a bit. "Yeah well I'm still human." the Head Boy chuckled lightly. That would have been a disaster no matter what species he was.
When the Head Boy looked up from his full half of the tray he saw that his partner was ready for the next step too. "Well we don't eat it yet; we have to bake it first." he nodded. "It isn't really advised to eat the batter raw because of the raw eggs in the mixture which can make you sick. But a small taste every now and again shouldn't hurt you." Chris smiled.
"Ok well the next step is for us to bake it for 20 minutes." Chris opened the oven door and then used a nonverbal levitation charm to levitate the pan into the open door. Chris waited until he had moved it over the top rack of the oven and then said, "Finite." having the pan land safely on the shelf. Then he closed the door, now just to wait. "After they are done baking we are finished! Except icing them of course."
Thinking about what they could do in the meantime of the cupcakes baking Chris noticed the dirty cookware. "Hey Simon do you want to help me clean this stuff up now while its baking instead of having to do it afterwards?" he said gathering up the spoons and the bowl and heading to the sink.

Selena decided to melt down the morsels a different way. She boiled some water in a pot and placed it on the stove. 'Please don't explode,' Selena thought to herself. She took a bowl and placed it on top of the boiling water. Selena then poured in 1/2 a cup of the morsels into the bowl. She watched it melt. Selena waited till it melted before levitating the bowl. "Wingardium Leviosa," Selena said as the bowl floated up. "Fixate," Selena said as the bowl froze at an appropriate height. She then placed the spoon inside and tapped it, "Locomotor spoon," Selena said as she twirled the wand, mixing the chocolate."Finite," Selena said when it was done and she caught the bowl before setting it on the table and tapped the spoon. "Locomotor Spoon," Selena said as she twirled her spoon, mixing the chocolate till it was at room temperature. Selena felt like licking the spoon. But that would be weird.
Sorry. I tried to shorten this, but it became all wonky sounding lol

Destiny hoped Evelyn didn't make the spoon move too fast. She didn't really want to be covered in all that stuff. It was bad enough she still had eggs on her hands, since she had forgotten to wash them. Maybe she should do that now? They did have four minutes to wait. "I'm gunna go wash my hands." she muttered to Evelyn, even holding her hands up for her friend to see the stickiness. Only problem was..one can't see stickiness.
Walking to the sinks, she shoved her hands in the water and held them there for thirty seconds. Only three minutes and thirty seconds left for the spoon to stir the mix. What could she do for that amount of time? Deciding to see what everyone else was up to, Destiny took the long way back to her desk. Walking with her hands behind her back, she nodded at a few people in passing. None of their stuff looked as good as Destiny and Evelyn's and they are still on the mixing process!
Making her way back to her table, Destiny snorted at Evelyn's comment. "You're joking..right?" This was much easier then baking those cupcakes last year, that's for sure. "This would have come in handy last term, you know. It wouldn't have taken us forever to bake those cupcakes." Four minutes! Looking into the bowl, Destiny saw the egg whites start to stiffen. That meant it was time for the next step!
So, the spoon had to be still stirring as the sugar was poured in. Well, that's what it looked like the directions said. Slowing down the spoons speed, she grabbed the cup of sugar, and slowly poured it into the mixture. After all that was mixed, Destiny cast finite on the spoon and traded that with a scraper. "Locomotor scraper." she said pointing her wand.
Yeah, let that do the work.

Simon looked at Chris and as soon as he closed to oven door Simon asked. "Yeah washing up." Simon smiled, even though he had no idea what washing up was. "So is washing up fun?" He asked as an after thought, he'd never heard that word before, but when Chris pick up the spoons and Bowl, Simon decided to pick up what was left and followed him to the sink. "Oh I see, he'd had his face cleaned before so he knew what a sink was. "Oh cool." Simon smiled as he started running the tap so it would heat up, then he put the plug in. "Oh and don't do what my father did once, he left the tap running." Simon said as he smiled at Chris, he quickly placed the things in the water and then turned the tap off, he took a spoonge and then started to wash the equipment, once he was done he turned to Chris. "You can dry them up now, that's no fun." Simon hoped Chris didn't mind.
Jen had been watching the clock, and when it hit twenty minutes, she thought it would be a good idea to check her cupcakes.
Jen walked over to her oven and took her cupckaes out, they looked fine to her. She smiled and brought them back to her seat.
She began putting frosting on each of them, her favorite keylime frosting. Once Jen finished that she layed them out on her desk, looking satisfied with herself. She had successfully baked cupcakes using magic.

"Might be a bit dangerous with knives though." Cela mused. You know, since the natural instinct for a knife would be to cut bits off of things.
"Mmm," Lexi mumbled, considering how to best answer Cela's question. She watched the twitching spoon out of the corner of her eye for just a second, then when the girl's hand clamped over it, Lexi's eyes flickered away. "You've studied it, I see. ...but yes, you could definitely use substitutiary locomotion in the kitchen, although...I've always advised people to use it with caution." She nodded her head, agreeing with what Cela said about the knives. "You just have to be careful to make sure the utensils and...whatever else you're working with know when to do what they're supposed to do...which is why I always advise using the charm in moderation."
A little sparkle of pride gleamed in Lexi's eyes, and she gave the Head Girl a smile. Someone had taught her well.
Victoria nodded at what Lexi said before turning to Teegan. "Well...do you know how to split the egg whites from the yolk? I rarely helped my mum when she baked the muggle way, so..." She smiled sheepishly, feeling a little ashamed for not knowing how.
Looking away from her spoon, she lazily eyed the oven when he turned the light on. Not much happening in the oven as the cupcakes baked. "Hmm, casting the fire spell seems more exciting." She shrugged her shoulders and went back to licking her spoon clean.
Slowly she licked the spoon like a cat, occasionally giving her wand a twirl when she had licked a part of the spoon clean. NOW she was glad to have come to class hungry, sweets always tasted best when eatin on a empty stomach. "Mmhmm," She finished off her spoon and watched him lick the bowl. "Eating the cupcakes is the best part. I'd say that decorating them comes third, comes right after licking the bowl and spoon clean."
She had never really thought about how cupcakes tasted after a few days, they never seemed to last that long in her house what with her siblings and friends to share them with. Swinging her feet, she drumed the levitated spoon against the ingredents while humming a random song. She didn't notice the movement in Santi's bag until he went and picked up the little kneazle. She smiled at the kitten while still drumming. "Guess she's not playing with Perseus after all." She said softly, so the professor wouldn't hear.
"Guess not." Santi agreed as he kept trying to put Rose back in his bag without suffocating her. However, she was quite insistant at getting the the source of that wonderful smell, and when he held her in place she stared at him as if to say can't I? Pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeee? Instead he started scratching her ear and she eventually flopped onto her back to get a belly rub. Santi shrugged to Arya with one hand scratching Rose in his bag.
"They'll be done in twenty minutes," he said a bit louder than usual, to offer and explanation to him sitting on the counter to anyone in the vicinity.
After that was all combined, Ellie but her hand underneath the bowl, "Finite!" she said, and caught it.
She set the bowl back down and added shortening, milk and vanilla. She levitated the bowl back into the air and made it stay. She turned her wand at more of a 'beating' speed, and said, "locomotor spoon'. There. Now, she just had to wait.... she looked back at her recipe.... one minute. Oh, that's not long. She turned to the clock to time it.
Alex nodded at the answer the teacher gave her. she was thinking anyone who put pineapples on anything sweet were insane. Alex glanced at her perfectly made chocolate cupcakes with creamy chocolate frosting topped with white chocolate shavings. It was any chocolate lover's dream she decided firmly. Before pulling out her Arithmancy Book again and began to read waiting for everyone else to finish.
As the timer went off, Adelyn pulled the two trays of perfect cupcakes out of the oven, sending the scent of chocolate and peanut butter into her nose. She breathed it in deeply and smiled, they looked delicious. Placing them on the counter to cool, she looked at her bowl of white-vanilla frosting; white is such a boring color. Adelyn thought to herself. She wanted her cupcakes to look extra pretty, a fun color would be wonderful. Then she remembered the spell they used at the beginning of class. Adelyn pointed her wand at the bowl of icing and said, "Colorus Revolvo Pink." The icing instantly turned to a lovely shade of pink, and she grinned. As soon as the cupcakes cooled, she iced them all perfectly, spending more time than necessary on each one. Her mum had trained her to be a perfectionist when it came to baking, and it still showed. Finally, she stood back and looked at what she had created. "Perfect." Adelyn said aloud to herself; they looked lovely. Adelyn grinned brightly with pride; she had just successfully baked cupcakes using magic.

Well knowing WHEN to do things made sense. In Cela's case she wasn't sure it'd ever be a good idea to cook things. One time she helped Copernicus stir a fry and then her hand got a bit burnt and then there was snogging and the house elves had to do the rest of the cooking.
But.
But if she shielded herself against possible stray knives knifing things and spatulas... er... spatching things, that'd be good? She resolved to try it out some time. Yup.
She went back to staring at her recipe.
