| | First Charms Class: Part 1 First it was a trip to the Ministry and then it was the search for missing daughters which prevented Professor Branxton from teaching his classes. But, finally, he had to admit that he needed to teach, regardless of the fruitless search for the twin toddlers. With a heavy heart, Professor Branxton opened the classroom door and moved to sit behind the desk at the front of the large, airy, classroom which was so much different from the classroom he had previously occupied. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Katelyn Quillio Fifth Year | Aquila Pacis Katelyn blushed. Thats exactly why she never raised her hand, she hated being wrong and was wrong most times. She didnt show it on her face, though, but wrote down everything that everyone said. She decided to never raise her hand again. |

| Lauren saw a slightly hurt and slightly more embarassed expression break out on her classmate's face. Although Katelyn's face was now tucked down as her hand feverishly guided her quill over her parchment, Lauren leaned over slightly, her hand creeping up discretely to hide her mouth. "Don't worry about it," she whispered ever so quietly. "I rather liked your answer - I mean, a defensive charm doesn't need to be conjured in the hopes of hurting one's enemy, I don't think, but the security bit made sense." She nodded a little as she finished, hoping the girl wasn't too discouraged. It couldn't be easy academically to be a first-year Ravenclaw. It seemed, to Lauren, that too much was expected of them. She gave a small smile toward her classmate as she sat straight again, grasping her quill and smoothing a hand over the paper in front of her. She tucked that nuisance of a lock of hair behind her ear once more, and set to organize the notes she had taken. |

i think the difference is that the security charms protect the international statute of secrecy and defensive spells help us stop being hit by a curse or hex or to defend ourselves against anything.

Katy Sampson | K.O. Tonks' Babies Jackie raised her hand, nervously.
"Um... When I think about Departments in the ministry, defensive spells are for Aurors and the Law Enforcement Department. Security spells however, are for the Department of Mysteries, or the people in the Department of Magical Games and Sports who defend the Quidditch matches and stuff... and... erm... actually, nevermind..." Said Jackie, blushing madly. From now on she thought, I'll only speak if I have something to say that isn't complete gibberish!

Tiaan looked at them all and started to think, "well i think the secruity charms or types could help us in keeping us in security of what we need." he said thinking about his past. "like the one charm thatcan keep your house hidden and you have a secret keeper for that." he thought about how he had to have that done with his guardians for a few years.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Katelyn Quillio Fifth Year | Aquila Pacis Katelyn gave Lauren a slgiht smile before returning to her notes. Three pages were now covered with her neat, script handwriting. She tucked some hair behind her ears, and read through them all once. She listened carefully to the girl, and scribbled down everything she said. She would rewrite all the good notes later. She just wanted to get all imformation down. |

Amelia smiled weakly at the Professor, hoping she was right. "Those were some excellent thoughts and I appreciate your ruminations on the question," Professor Branxton replied. He waved his wand at the blackboard and the above replied duplicated themselves. "The dictionary definition of security is precautions taken to guard against crime, attack, sabotage, espionage, etc. The dictionary definition of defense is resistance against attack or protection.
"These definitions help us to distinguish between security charms and defensive spells. However, this distinction is highly subject to individual interpretation. For the purposes of this class, Security Charms are those that are used in order to prevent an attack while Defensive Spells are those that are used in order to ward off an attack which is already in progress.
"For this class, we will be learning a few practical security charms that you might find useful even here at school. If there were one security charm you wished to use at school, what would it be?" he asked, thoughts of Clara coming unbidden to his mind at his own words. Quote:

"An Imperturbable charm, professor." The smile he gave reminded her of her own. The one she would give friends when she didn't want them thinking she was gloomy. She decided to drop it.

Elijah Wright Department of Mysteries | Bassoons galore! Caitlin raised her hand. She'd had a bit of practice with security. "It's not exactly basic, but it's very practical, and helpful. I know the school has it - the Unplottable charm thingy? It makes it to were you can't view Hogwarts on a map and from what I remember pushes Muggles away ... makes them think they have something else important to do."
She shrugged, hoping she was somewhere on the right path of what the Professor was looking for.

| Hearing Cassandra mention the Imperturbable charm, Kay nodded. That was one that she would enjoy leaning. It certainly would be helpful. Her quill made a soft scratching noise as it ran across the parchment, making quick notes and small doodles along the edges of her page.

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Amelia listened to the Professor talk about the dictionary definition of the two terms. Now why didn't she think to look in the dictionary? That would have been much simpler. Picking up her quill, she wrote down the few charms that a couple students already mentioned, and wracked her brain to think of more security charms.
"Well Professor, what about a charm to maybe lock your trunk up in your dorm? Also, the anti-intruder jinx, anti-cheating spell, or concealment charm are other security charms that might be useful. The anti-cheating one especially is a common one used during exam time at Hogwarts." |

Kerry thought for a few minutes, listening to her classmates suggestions and trying to think of a security charm herself. Suddenly one popped into her head, and she raised her hand, "Hmm, what about learning about confundus charm which confuses people. Wouldn't that be helpful in causing a distraction and allowing someone time to guard themselves against a crime or attack, or giving them time to get away. It could even possibly confuse someone enough to prevent them from going through with the crime or attack all together?"

Agie raised her hand. She wasn't entirely sure, but she at least has a few ideas "The Fidelius Charm would be a great security measure i would say professor. This is because it an completely hide a person or a place in such a way that no one can find them unless they are given the location by a secret keeper. I would just love to learn about that, although I'm sure it's very advanced for us to learn at school. So if i had to think of a more practical charm i would suggest the Obliteration Charm. This is because it has a great security mechanism of removing the traces or tracks left by someone, allowing for someone to travel without the fear of being tracked or without someone knowing you've been there."
Agie then laughed to herself "Which is perfect when we want to venture around the grounds without being caught."

Katy Sampson | K.O. Tonks' Babies Jackie quickly noted down all the spells other people were mentioning, while thinking herself. She pondered the Professor's question for a moment, her mouth twisted to the side slightly in thought. Her quill was twiddling backwards and forwards over her shoulder, flicking her messy blonde hair around her face. Suddenly, she twitched and raised her hand.
"Erm... I'd love to learn a spell that would lock my diary or stop people from accessing things of mine that are private. Are there any spells that can well... make an object unnoticeable to anyone but yourself Professor?" she asked, she was thinking of ways to stop her annoying brother Jamie from reading her diary all the time.
