On Christmas holidays, Helena decided to head back to her grandparents neighborhood in Bulgaria, only to find that they had perished a few weeks before in a car accident.

But they left her their house and everything in it. So now, she's working on fixing up the place on her own, cleaning and renovating the old mostly.

The two-story Victorian is high-end, made with the finest cut wood, polished to perfection. It's quite large - a grand entry way, parlor, library, kitchen, and dining room on the first floor and five bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second - but she's loving having her own place.

Okay that wasn't the best thing that he could have said. Chris just didn't know how to handle these things. He had meet few girls that their parents had both died and still he didn't know what to do. Well there was of course Lena, Melinda and Heather if he remember right. So after all this time of talking about this still he had no idea what to say or do. He didn't say anything not knowing what to say sooo he just sat there and ate his food.

Helena recognized the silence, perhaps not as an awkward one, but it was definitely strained. Smoothly she said, Have you thought about what you might want to do if music thing doesn't work out? Hopefully that didn't sound like Lena didn't have faith in Chris because she really did!

Chris was totally thankful when Lena asked him that quesition. "Yeah most likely I will just go work at the ministry like my dad wants. But he's started to become alright with the idea of my going and trying to something with music." He told Lena and smiled slightly. This was one subject he didn't mind.

Helena smiled when Chris did, knowing that she had successfully got them out of that strained silence. I've always wanted to do something with the Ministry, she said thoughtfully before taking a bite of another of her carrots. That's good that your dad's become more okay with it, though.

Chris shrugged. "The Ministry really wouldn't be so bad I guess. I just don't really want to work there. But that's what might happen." He told Lena and took another sip from his goblet. "Yeah it is good. He's the one that is letting me go to America in the first place. My mum doesn't want me to leave but she doesn't want me to grow up either." He said chuckling slightly.

Helena laughed lightly, taking another sip from her goblet and smiling. I hope it doesn't turn out like that for you, since that's not what you want. I don't blame your mom, of course - mother's will always want to keep their kids little forever. Her smile widened slightly at this, and Lena realized that she meant it, even if it wasn't true for everyone.

Chris shrugged. "I hope it doesn't either but hey it might. I don't even know what I would do working there. But my dad would be happy. He doesn't think be a rock star is a really job." He said and laughed slightly. "Well well look who knows how mother's think now. But yes you are right. But they always have Nick" He said and smiled back to Lena.

I don't know, actually, Helena thought a bit bitterly to herself before the very thoughts made her sick of herself. I disagree with your father - personally, music has just helped me through too much to not be considered a job. Those people are brilliant. Her voice wasn't cold, but truthful. She took another sip from her glass and didn't comment on the last bit.

"Yes I find it could be considered a job. But honestly I'm scared." Chris told Lena this was the first time he had told this to anyone. "Everyone says I will do something with music. But what if I don't? What if I just waste my time. A year or so I wasted." He said. A year that could be spent with Mel...Thoughts filled his head of their talk. He himself hadn't been doing so well after that talk they had. Now he was going to just leave her his love? And leave Lena his best friend? Gahhhh! But he wanted to go to America that was his dream.....right?

Helena didn't let her surprise at Chris's words show on her face, but she had never heard him not having faith in himself. It won't be a waste of time, she insisted firmly, setting her fork down beside her near-empty plate. Even if you don't end doing something with music, you'll still have gone through something and learned from it. It was there that Lena stopped, seeing Chris get lost in his thoughts.... they didn't look like happy thoughts. Is everything alright? she asked cautiously and quietly.

Chris nodded slowly but firmly. "Yes I suppose it won't be a totally waste I will learn and it will be fun." He said. But he was lost in his thoughts when he heard Lena ask if everything was alright. He shook his head he was done lieing. But how could he explain this? She would probably thing he was crazy. Or that Melinda was. The only way this would make sense to anyone was if you knew Mel.

"Just stuff with Melinda." He manged to tell her. He didn't know if Mel would want him to say this but Lena would understand. Anyways she told his mum and wasn't like Lena was going to tell anyone.

Helena watched him closely through light brown eyes as he seemed to struggle with how to answer the question. When he finally did answer, Lena's mouth went into a bit of a line and she nodded silently; she figured that Mel wouldn't want her to know anything, and if Chris didn't either, why should she object? I'm sorry, she said finally, her newly-stormy gray eyes on her plate once more.

Chris wasn't sure if he could even managed to get the words out to Lena. Maybe he would but he wasn't sure at the moment. It would feel good to be able to talk to someone other than Mel or his family. Not that he didn't like to talk to his family just he wanted someone different to talk to. He heard her say she was sorry and he wrinkled his eyebrows. "What are you sorry about?" He asked. He didn't even tell her and she was saying sorry. What was it about?

Helena sighed and pushed the last bit of her food away from her a few inches, not much in the mood to eat anymore. You don't get this worked up over nothing - not that its obvious you're upset, but after being friends so long, I can tell it's something important. She felt bad about getting it -- for understanding.

Chris nodded. "This is what happenes when you know someone so well." He said a small very very small smile playing on his face but it quickly faded. He took a deep breath he was going to tell her. He has had it all bottled up and he couldn't take it anymore. Mel would understand right? I mean this was big news. "Umm will the truth is....Mel is....dieing." He actaully whispered the last part. He put his hands in his pockets and looked down at his shoes. "You just have to trust me that she knows." He said not wanting to explain it all right now.

When Chris told her.... what he needed to tell her.... she felt her heart stop for a moment. Then, before she realized what had happened, she was kneeling beside Chris, holding one of his hands in both of hers, her light purple eyes brimming with tears. Chris, she whispered, willing the tears to stay where they were.

He told Lena. He actually told somebody. But he wasn't happy he couldn't feel that way at the moment. He gulped hard trying to make that pain in his chest go away. But before he knew what was happening Lena was at he side holding his hand. Chris looked down at her not know to say or do. He sat there like when Mel herself had told him and his face almost went as pale as it did that day. All he could do was look down at Helena and feel comforted.

After a few brief moments - or possibly several long ones, Helena finally looked up to meet Chris's eyes with his favorite color looking at him. She shook her head slightly for a moment, though her eyes were now dry. I'm so, so sorry, Chris, she murmured, leaning her head lightly on his arm.

Chris watched as Lena's eyes finally meet his. That purple looking up at him. Normally he would have loved it. But there was no why he could probably feel happiness at that moment. He heard her say she was sorry he wanted to shrug and say it wasn't a big deal. But in this case it was. "It's just something that's going to happen. Nobody can stop it." He said finding his voice. Though it was soft a lot softer than normal. Chris watched as Lena leaned her heard on his arm. He then rested his cheek on top of her head.

As Helena felt Chris lean his cheek on top of her head, she felt even worse. Here he was - the girl he loved was dying. And there she was - sitting there crying, probably making him feel even worse. Being there for him didn't mean making him feel worse. She quickly stopped any more thoughts of crying and bit back a sigh. I don't even know what to say anymore. She didn't let go of his hand.

Chris out of the corner of his eyes saw Lena's eyes were wet. He moved his cheek from her head. He took his thumb and wipped away a tear that had rolled down her cheek. "It's alright. I don't either honsetly. I'm still in shock I guess." He said and locked his jaw. He noticed Lena still had his hand. Though he didn't mind. He gulped again. "To me it still doesn't seem like it possible. But I just keep hearing her voice say it over and over again. I actaully haven't had a goodnight sleep sense then." He said though it wasn't really to Lena. He would have told anyone this if they gave him the chance to talk.

She then saw the traditional 'getting a tad bit uncomfortable' phase in Chris's expression and she stood up, releasing his hand gently. She walked back to her plate and took it across the room, scraping the small remainder into the garbage can and placing the plate in the sink. You should be spending as much time as you can with her then, she said finally, turning around and leaning on the sink board. Whatever time hasn't been lost shouldn't be....

Chris felt Helena let go of his hand. He watch as she got up he was going to to do the same but heard her comment. "I can't. She's back in France and sense I'm going back to Hogwarts then I'm leaving to America. Maybe it was a mistake maybe I should go." He said to Lena as he sat there now pounder on that thought. Though Mel told him to still go......

Helena shook her head, though she wasn't doing it to disagree with Chris. It just wasn't fair. Nothing was fair anymore. Mel would want you to, she said quietly. Truthfully, she knew nothing of the sort, but she knew that Mel, like herself, only wanted what was best for Chris despite the circumstances.

Chris heard Lena very clearly even though she was speaking quietly. He nodded to her. "I know she would its just...I didn't think I would feel right about going. It would be weird to me I guess knowing I should be spending time with her." He said. Before this he just didn't want to go cause he knew he was going to miss Melinda and Lena and well of course his family. But now he felt as if he shouldn't go like he had to stay with Mel. He looked at Lena with sad and confused eyes trying to find an answer.
