Hello there, and welcome to LiJaF-LWfaDE [the abbreviation is almost as long as the title itself], my third Fan Fiction on SnitchSeeker. Constructive criticism is appreciated, but please don’t flame me. Also, if you have a problem with one of my readers, please PM them about it. Don’t yell at them on my thread.

I like to have a really friendly thread, so chatting about the fic is okay, but I don’t want spam. :] This became a problem in my last FF, so I'm I'm implementing a rule I'd like y'all to please be super kind and follow. Feel absolutely free to leave a comment after I post, but if you have anything extra you'd like to add, please edit your post, PM me, or leave me a UN. I don't want the mods to have to come and clean out my FF thread again.

Most of all - please have fun! I love writing for active readers who leave me great things to reply to. You're my inspiration to write, so be my guest and get a little goofy!

Normally, I leave a summary of the story ... but I figured that the title explains itself pretty well. So without further ado ... Love is Just a Four-Letter Word for a Death Eater.

To some people, love is something taken for granted. It is pushed aside when it becomes inconvenient, yet, when desired, people expect to receive it, no questions asked. After all, love is supposed to be unconditional. But to people like me … love is a hindrance. It is not needed, it is not accepted, and it is not wanted. For a Death Eater, love is just a four-letter word.

“Did you see his face?” Malfoy sneers as we walk into our Common Room. “I thought the kid was going to puke all over himself!”

I watch him as he imitates the boy, puffing out his cheeks and crossing his eyes. I can’t help but to laugh stupidly. It’s my job.

“I’m bored,” Crabbe sighs just moments after Draco stops his game of charades. Draco looks at him angrily. He doesn’t like it when it is basically implied that he is boring. I don’t say anything. Sometimes I think Malfoy is more stupid than Crabbe.

“What’re you looking at?” Malfoy glares at me, looking for somewhere to vent his newfound anger.

“Nothing,” I hastily reply. “I think I’ll go to bed, now. I don’t feel well.”

Malfoy laughs, and Crabbe joins in, though I’m sure he doesn’t understand what is funny. I look at the two and finally ask, “What?”

“We know what you’re up to,” Malfoy says first. Crabbe doesn’t talk much.

“What?” I ask again, more innocently this time.

Draco shakes his head. “You’re pathetic. You’re writing to her again, aren’t you?”

“Who?” I question, wishing that my appearance of stupidity would finally be convincing when I need it.

“That girl – the one we met – well, you know when. On our way to work. What’s her name? Janie? What a boring name.”

I don’t say anything. He already knows what‘s going through my head; I’m sure of it.

“You need to move on, Goyle. It’s not good for business to be tied down at such an early age. She wouldn’t understand you and the things that you do.”

I nod my head, agreeing. He’s probably right, but I don’t like to think of it. I manage to get away though, and I sit down to write a note anyway.

Dear Janie,
I got your last letter. Draco doesn’t like you sending them. You know how he is. I hope I can see you soon. Meet me in the Entrance Hall tomorrow at our usual time. Write me back quickly, okay?

P.S. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you, but I really like your first name.

Originally, I had written ‘Love, Goyle,’ at the end, but if it was intercepted, I’d be in trouble. No love is allowed. Like Draco says – it’s bad for business.

"Why does he want us to figure out how to deal with them?" I ask, pacing back in forth. We're back in our room, drying off. "It really does not make any sense. Normally he deals with these situations, and we just do the dirty work. Why us?"

Draco shrugs. "Think about it. We're Death Eaters. We know how awful it is for a Death Eater to betray the group. Maybe he just wants us to give a punishment that we thinks fits?"

"You know how it goes," Crabbe speaks. It surprises me, and I jump. Normally ... well, Crabbe is just the silent type. He continues, "It's a life or death thing. If I turned my back on the Dark Lord, I would expect to be killed."

"But at the same time, we can't kill them," I reply.

Malfoy looks at me, eyebrows raised. "And why the hell not?"

"They have information that we need," I answer simply, collapsing onto my mattress. "We can't get it if they're dead ... not to mention, if they're murdered their whole group will know that we're onto them. We can't risk that. I say we leave them be for a while."

"Or, even better ..." Draco begins, his eyes gleaming in the candlelight. "We befriend them."

"Like Severus did with us?" I say, sitting back up. "Don't you think he'd expect that? I mean, he did it. He would know."

"Not if I did it. I'm his favorite. He'll believe me."

"I don't know, Malfoy ..." My voice trails off.

Crabbe turns to us. "I think it will work. Let's see what He thinks. What're we doing tomorrow?"

I swear something must be wrong with him. He never talks this much. Instead of mentioning it, I just raise my eyebrows and wait for Draco to reply.

He's fumbling in his coat pocket. When he looks up, he's clutching the parchment. "Day three ... the final day. Go to the ruins of St Andrew's Cathedral in Fife for your next job."

We slowly walk up the massive hill that the cathedral sits on. Everywhere around us is green, and it is so sunny outside that the towering building barely causes and shade.

We reach the edges of the cathedral. I run my fingers against the crumbling, aged brick and ask Draco, "What're we doing here?"

He just shrugs and begins walking towards the gate, which is now visible. Crabbe and I immediately follow.

The door is open for anyone and everyone to enter; we slowly proceed inside to find beggars, Preists, and many others swarming around. Surprised that we are not really standing out, I shoot Malfoy a questioning look. He just shrugs again and leads us to a deserted corridor.

"What I don't understand," he says, "is why all of these people are here. This is supposed to be deserted ... it's a historic monument. I mean, you guys saw it. It's ruined. What are they doing here?"

Crabbe and I have no answer.

"Whatever," he finally concludes. "Let's keep going."

Taking a right at the end of the hallway, we're suddenly surrounded by darkness.

"Lumos," Draco whispers, and we follow suit.

We're in a small room, that I suppose was once used for worshiping. The right wall has fallen in, and everything is smothered in dust.

"Yes, yes, but in when separated?" Malfoy asks himself. He then begins to push things aside, looking for something.

Finally, about ten minutes later, he emerges with a small vial the size of his palm. There's a cork, sealing in some clear liquid.

"We're done here," he says, and we push our way back through the crowd of people, still not aware why they're there.

"So why did we come with you?" I ask Malfoy once we're back in our rooms. We're putting together the few things that we brought with us.

"Protection," Crabbe gruffs.

Draco nods. "If someone caught onto us, especially Snape or Karkaroff ... you were there for me, and I was there for you."

"You still knew more about the mission than us." I wasn't trying to whine ... I just felt like there was so much that we were left out of.

Draco whips around and glares. "Are you going to cry about it? No? The shut up. I obviously knew more than you for a reason. Now come on. We need to return you two to Hogwarts before I go visit Him."

"Are you going to tell Him about your plan? To befriend Snape?"

"Of course," he nods.

Nothing else was spoken.

When we appear outside of the Hogwarts gate, everything around us is silent. Draco watches as Crabbe and I walked up to the school, then leaves once more.

I don't care, by now. All I know is that this whole time I've been trying to think about her, and now I can. I'm back to Hogwarts; I'm back to Janie.
