Are you wishing to meet with the Head of the Department of Magical Education? Have you a pressing issue regarding the education of our youth, or just want to get to know the woman personally? Well, you've come to the right place.
As you enter the office, you notice photos on the walls of all the famous wizarding schools, with Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry being the most prominent. There are photos featured of some of Hogwarts' most celebrated students, including the illustrious Harry Potter himself.
A woman is extending her hand to greet you, offering you to take a seat in front of her cherry paneled desk. Her appearance is unexpected, as she is quite young and lovely, though very professional in her being. She has mysterious, unfathomable blue eyes, a full mouth and long silky honey blonde hair. In truth, she is well past the age of 45, just able to preserve her youth very well (would you like to know her secret? Perhaps she'll share with you one day, if you prove yourself worthy!) You notice that she is dressed all in black, you wonder the reason why.

Samantha had seen the expression on Lucy's face as she looked at Rachel, and she knew right away what she was thinking. She decided that she would have a talk with her later and explain what was happening, that Rachel wasn't Jake's daughter but rather his niece. She could understand where one might presume that the two were father and daughter, they looked so much alike it was amazing! Maybe by that time they would be ready to tell her of their relationship, too. There was no reason for Jake and Lucy's budding relationship to suffer as a result of a misunderstanding. Samantha knew all too well what misunderstandings could do, what had happened with Jake and with Rachel was a perfect example of that.

Gretchen, Lucy's owl, threw a letter to the desk and left has quickly as she had entered. Flying away, she left Samantha with Rahcel and the unopen letter. Quote:
I am going to the Leaky Cauldron now. I can't find Jake anywhere. I have the feeling he is there.
I usually don't during work hours but this is an emergency.

Samantha patted Rachel's shoulder comfortingly. This was so much for someone of her age to have to deal with! "I think your grandparents were really shocked when they found that Jake was magical and then, by the time you came along, they were more or less used to it, at least more used to it than they were the first time. And I agree, you should have been informed that you had an uncle who was magical and who was trying to get in touch with you the whole time." That was all that Samantha said. It wasn't her job to make judgments for or against Rachel's family.
Samantha didn't know whether she should let Rachel know what the contents of the owl's message were or not. She decided it might be a good idea to mention something, after all, Rachel would probably find out soon enough. "The young lady who was here, Lucy, that owl was from her," she explained. "I believe Lucy is interested in your uncle and vice versa. She was just explaining that she had gone to Diagon Alley to look for your uncle, that she was unable to find him here at the Ministry. I'm sure everything is all right and that your uncle is there, at the Leaky Cauldron." Samantha wondered what could be happening now.

Rachel nodded, still wiping her damp and now red eyes. She listened carefully to what Samantha said the letter was about, and her eyes threatened to let loose the floods again. She was just about to sob, when her brain finally caught up with what Samantha was saying. Her facial expression suddenly turned mischievous, and she smiled cheekily. "That woman fancies my uncle?" she giggled childishly, surprising herself. "And my uncle fancies her?" she asked again rhetorically, unable to stop herself. Rachel, what's up with you? she thought to herself as she giggled and felt the tears dry. She'd been sad for so long, anything remotely cheerful made her laugh out loud.

Samantha laughed softly. "Yes, after all this time it seems romance has come to this department. To tell you the truth, we haven't had that many men working here, as I told you. There was one who was here briefly before your uncle, but he left and your uncle came in. He seems to be quite appealing to the ladies, but there is one in particular who has caught his fancy, and that's Lucy." Samantha smiled. Jake was very handsome, and Rachel was a very pretty girl. They looked alike in so many ways, she couldn't wait to see how the two of them would react when they actually met each other! It was going to be a total shock for both of them. She almost wanted to rub her hands together in eager anticipation, but refrained from that.

"Appealing for the ladies?" she said sarcastically, smirking, "Looks like my uncle has left quite an impression!" And that he had. Rachel was beginning to wonder if he wasn't one of those annoying stupid men who thought that the whole world revolved around them. "Is he alright though? As in, is he full of himself or is he just another man who happens to look good?" she asked, going slightly pink as she added to herself; like Toshi. She couldn't get him off her mind, and it made her happy to know that someone was there for her, no matter what. It had been him, along with some of her other friends, who had managed to keep her sane after the letter had arrived. I should have asked him to come with me... she thought but then immediately regretted it because she knew that if Toshi were here, things wouldn't be this comfortable. Plus, this is a family issue, so he wouldn't feel right...

Samantha laughed. "No, I really think your uncle is all right. I think he's a very kind, sensitive man who happens to be very good looking, that's all. I really think he's a genuinely sweet guy who doesn't want to hurt anyone, and that's my honest opinion. Don't worry, I don't think your Uncle Jake is the unfeeling heel that you've probably heard about, actually, I think he's very far from the case." Samantha could tell that much, and she sensed that Jake and Lucy did truly care about one another. She was a pretty good judge of character and was very seldom wrong.

Rachel nodded, submitting all that Samantha said to memory, making sure that she wasn't missing anything. She grinned as Samantha finished and said, "He sounds like a fun guy, and the exact opposite of me, which is good. It would be boring if we were both exactly the same, don't you think?" she asked, smiling happily. Yeah, it really would be boring, and he sounds like the exact opposite of Mum, too... He really is the black sheep in the family, she thought and then mentally cringed at her use of words. Black sheep? More like he's the only white one!

As Samantha spoke, Rachel suddenly became nervous. What if he doesn't like me? What if, in the end, he regrets that he ever knew I existed? Her palms grew hot, and a light sweat broke out on her forehead. She was very nervous, shaking slightly and shivering for no reason.
She nodded vigorously once Samantha finished, and looked a bit mad. "Yeah, you're right, it is my choice, isn't it? It's my choice, right?" she said, reassuring herself. She looked down at her red shaking palms, eyes far away.
"So, um, you said that he was at the Leaky Cauldron, right? That means that I can't see him now. Okay, okay, good, that's great, perfect, um, good. So, I'll be seeing you, right?" she said, speaking very quickly. She needed time to ponder over her newly gained information before she met him.
She stood up, her cloak hugging her thin form. She was very pale and she looked quite ill. "Thank you for meeting me, Ms. Rose," she said quietly, tucking her hair behind her ears, which only made her face look more drawn.

After all this girl was quite young and it was a huge decision for her, meeting an uncle she knew so little about, it was only natural that she would be scared. "I tell you what," Samantha said brightly. "I promised you lunch as well as a tour of this place, why don't we do that now? I intend to make sure that you have the grand tour before you leave here, there's no reason to rush off. After all, you have the whole day free, am I correct?"

Rachel's face broke into a happy smile, and she relaxed a little. "Thanks, and yeah, I do have the whole day off. I was afraid that you would be too busy though," she said, smiling. And she had worried. On her way to the Ministry, she had passed by Gringotts to get money, bcause she knew that Samanthat might not have time to take on the grand tour of the Ministry. She made for the door, but as she was about to open it, she was hit by a question. "I take it I can ask questions right? Well, I always thought that each department had it's own floor. How come that the Minister's offices are on the same level as the Magical Education department?" She felt a little weird, asking questions before they even got outside the office. Samantha smiled at Rachel's question. It was a very good one, one which made a lot of sense, but unfortunately, she didn't really have a clear answer since she herself wasn't entirely sure of the answer. "Well, I'm not really sure," she said honestly. "But I like to think that it's because we are the most important Department and rank up there right with the Ministry and that's the reason we're on the same floor." Samatha had never really given any thought to that before, but it really made a lot of sense once she thought about it.

Rachel smiled at her answer. "The most important department, huh?" she said jokingly, raising her eyebrows at Samantha. Obviously, Rachel knew that without this department, the whole magical community would fall to pieces, but it's still fun to take the mickey out of the Department head! She giggled and looked up at Samantha again.

Samantha made a huffing sound, playing along with Rachel. "Well, without this department there would be no Hogwarts or any other magical school in the United Kingdom! So I guess we are the most important department, if you look at it from that point of view." Samantha could tell full well that Rachel agreed with her, but she was enjoying this game, too.

"True," she said and pretended to think for a bit, "But if you look at it from that perspective, then all the Departments are just as important. The Magical Law Enforcement Department is extrememly important because without it, everyone would probably already be dead or heavily injured. The Department of International Magical Cooperation is also important because we ned to keep in touch with other wizarding communities, right?" She smiled up at Samantha, her eyes twinkling brightly. But all those thinkg wouldn't really be possible without this department, she thought to herself suddenly, because without it, there would be no wizards capable enough to run the other departments, and then we'd be in trouble. ooc: shouldn't we continue this conversation comewhere else? otherwise we'll be stuck her forever!
