UM well the MTV Movie Awards have never been serious business in the world of cinema but it's the only place Twilight can win because the core audience eats that travesty of a series up and that disappoints me. I'm so tired of hearing about the Twilight series because every time someone tells me they think it's the best film series/book series ever I rage and then want to sit them down with an obviously superior film/book like the HP books or some John Hughes film like Ferris Bueller's Day Off (one of my personal favorites).
That being said Twilight didn't deserve that award. It was up against Alice In Wonderland (which I kind of liked, kind of didn't I'm not fully sold on 3D right now), Avatar (advancements in visual technology anyone!?), HBP (decent movie, could've been a LOT better though in terms of story), and The Hangover (this movie should've won in that category imo it's hilarious and fun) so as you can see there's no way it deserved that award considering the competition it was up against.

Sensationalism can only take a movie so far in my eyes. It's a shame that sensationalism is necessary for a film to be successful. I mean some of the best films are ones with smaller followings.
I actually thought Pattinson was pretty decent in Remember Me. Try him out in that. I'm anxious for the film he's working on with Christoph Waltz (I THINK it's called Water For Elephants but don't take my word on it) because I think working with him will make Rob a better actor.

Sensationalism can be good or bad, I just see it more bad for CURRENT films. I'm not huge into chick flicks but I love Emilie De Ravin (DP character model ahoy!) so I had to see her in it. It was really cute but yes give him the benefit of the doubt for this one and even if he sucks in it, you still have Christoph ;]

To answer your second question, it's because some of my absolute favorite movies get torn apart by critics because they're not super serious films. Film to me is meant to be fun and to critique a fun movie that I enjoy would just kill me inside. Not every movie is meant to be a Scarface or a Saving Private Ryan. I think critiquing movies for a living would suck the fun out of watching a movie for me because if I was in that mindset every time I watched a movie, I'd be miserable. Watching movies is meant to be an escape from your real life just like a book is.
