She propped up a sign against it reading, "WARNING! DO NOT TOUCH" before she retreated from the room. She did leave the door open, however, allowing any students to enter while she retrieved the rest of the supplies from her office. |

Serena raised her hand, "Since we know that Flavius Belby fought off a lethifold, they can be found in Papua, New Guinea. That shows us that they can be found on tropical islands and in other tropical climates within other countries."

"For some reason I don't think the answer is 'in a pineaple under the sea'," Nadia said out loud randomly. "Papúa, New Guinea is where the recount took place. The other tropical places it could take place could be, err, Greece? Brazil, probably. The coast of Puerto Rico and all Centre America. In short, all the places near the ecuatorial horizon."
*ponder* "I don't think there's much else to be added."

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Well, I think you've effectively managed to talk that topic to death," Professor Rae said with a grin. "Who knew you could find so much to say on tropical climates? Regardless, 5 points to Kay for answering the question. The lethifold does indeed thrive in warm climates, and it is very much due to the thinness of its body. Like reptiles, the lethifold is cold blooded and doesn't have the mechanisms necessary to produce its own internal heat."
"We've already said several times that the lethifold devours its victims while they sleep by first suffocating them and then eating them pretty much whole. There is a spell that is quite effective against the lethifold. Anyone know what it is and how it was discovered?"
ooc: I"m going to ignore the people who talked about this already because it was basically an aside conversation that had nothing to do with what we were talking about and because i like to reward people for answering questions. I love giving out house points *is ashamed*
EDIT: I'm totally dumb, Kay! I wrote down your number and Lina's name. *sigh* I'm sorry.

umm the patronus charm can be quite effective against lethifolds and it was discovered by a wizard, i'm sorry i dont remember his name, who was attacked by a lethifold and woke up and reached for his wand and it was the only spell he could think of

"The patronus is effective. Though the lethifold IS material and not spirit or the like, it seems to be so thin and easy to blow off in the wind, like a common cloak, and so the Patronus could work. That's my theory, seeing you are not fighting against anything emotional but your own desperation...
This way to fight the creature was discovered by Flavius Belby in 1782 when he encountered one lethifold when on holidays. Or at least we thinkg so, because it is the oldest story about them.

It is a silvery mist and is indistinct at first until the witch/wizard can produce a fully corporial patronus which takes the shape of an animal that is specific to that witch/wizard

Well, adding to Lyra's information, it should take the shape of an animal, but only when you have produced in your head a memory which is possitive enough for you to feel good and can "expell from the chest" the possitive energy. I said "expell from the chest" because that's what the Etymology "expecto" means in Latin. Also, the chape is symbolic in someway to the person in question to ast it. It should take an image you like or respect or the like. But it not always get to be that perfect-shaped, sometimes it is just smoke, not corporeal at all. That is because the caster isn't feeling such a powerful emotion such as to provoque the feeling. Add to it that you can also use it on Dementors, to ward of the negative energy it provoques... we can only assume that the spell work, as I already said I believe this theory is the one, because the lethifold, even if not an expectration, it so light it can be pushed by wind like spell. I can't tell for sure though..."

Jaren didn't bother taking down notes for this particular discussion. He already knew this information, and the part that annoyed him the most was that two years had passed since he'd first learned about the Patronus Charm, and he still couldn't produce a Patronus. He tapped the desk with his fingers and waited for the Professor to proceed.

Lyra sat listening to Nadia and thought to herself 'Merlin, I could smack myself! I can't believe I forgot the part about the happy memory. Another case of my mouth working faster than my brain.' She was wondering if they were going to actually attempt to produce a patronus. She can produce an indistinct patronus and had managed a corporeal patronus once, a big dog, but it completely drained her and she thinks it may have been a fluke.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Please, I've not given you leave to use your wands yet. Do not cast the spell until I say. We're still discussing at this time. Five points each to lways and Nadia for their excellent information on the Patronus. I have to beg to differ on your theory, Nadia. If a wind could knock the lethifold from its quarry, then any such spell would work. However, the only known spell to get ANY reaction is the Patronus, so we must believe it is that focused use of positive energy that does it."
"And Ebony, the only way to get it to last long enough to be a full-fledged corporeal Patronus is by putting lots of force behind it, pulling a powerful positive thought into it, and by having the practice and magical skill. Some wizards never cast a corporeal Patronus, so do NOT be embarassed if you cannot at this time in your educations."

Jaren wrote on his parchment force, positive thought, practice, magical skill. He glared at the words. Three he had for sure, one he did not. Try as he may, he hadn't found a suitable positive thought yet...the strongest only yeilding vapour.

Hermy hoped that she would have bettr luck with her Patronus here than she had in the past. Maybe if she concentrated hard enough she would at least be albe to produce mist.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Alright, that's enough chatter from me. I can tell that you all are already starting to think of a happy thought, so I'd encourage you to go ahead and gather your thoughts, so to speak, and cast a Patronus. Be careful not to cast at each other. Maybe you should line up along the window-side of the room to cast."
She lazily attempted to cast the spell herself, as she had many times in the past. It was common Auror training, adn she could at least get a small silver shadow before it dissipated, even if she wasn't trying. Nothing happened when she flicked her wrist, and Professor Rae frowned. That memory had always worked for her before. "Go ahead with your business," she told the class sadly.
