Default Charms Lesson 1: Aparecium Charm

When you walk into the Charms classroom, the big bold words on the chalkboard will remind you of the reading you should have done before class: Aparecium Charm. It’s a chilly autumn day, so the windows in the classroom are shut to keep the cold and the rain out. And although it’s just afternoon, the sky outside the windows is darker than normal, and an odd shade of purple, so the lights inside the room are lit a bit brighter than normal to illuminate the class room.

Professor Fuller-Thompson stands at the front of the classroom in his usual position, leaning up against the edge of his desk, waiting for his students to arrive, making note of who was there on time, who was running late and who was flipping their textbook open at the last minute because they forgot to do the reading.

OOC: Welcome to Charms class! Just a reminder, this is the first OOC lesson, but this would not be the first charms lesson that your student would have attended.
Class Progression:
1. Greetings / Question 1
2. Replies / Question 2
3. Replies / Mini Activity
4. Main Activity

Because she read the chapter on Aparecium Charm a few days ago when the homework was assigned, she forgot a lot of the information and had to reread it right before class. She walked into the classroom, feeling confident. There was only one thing that could dampen her mood: the dark purple colour of the sky. She was beginning to think that this was very ... unnatural. She still put on a smile and greeted the teacher at the front of the classroom: "Hello, Professor." The seventh year took a seat, looked out the window, then decided that the view did not make her feel good. So she stared straight ahead at the chalkboard instead while waiting for the lesson to begin.

Cole had done the reading before class, sort off. He had skimmed the aparecium chapter over a few times, but his focus had been more on other things like sketching, Naya and that new adventure novel. He was totally hooked on that dragon series now. Hopefully Professor Fuller-Thompson wouldn't give them a pop-quiz or he'd be in some peril. Pulling a hand through his blond locks Cole was very pleased upon entering the classroom that they weren't having charms outside in the cold rain. "Hello Professor Fuller-Thompson!" he greeted the prof before looking around for a seat. Seeing a vacant one by Claudine's side he quickly made his way over before someone else snagged it. Sitting down in the chair next to her, with a smile he said in a low voice as he got his supplies in order. "Hi, have you got any idea why the sky has that weird shade?"

It wasn't that Flora couldn't read. Because she could, really. It was just that she didn't want to. What was the point in reading about a spell that they were going to learn about in class, right? Wasn't it the Professor's JOB to teach them, huh? If they were going to learn everything out of a book, why didn't the book itself hold the lessons!?

Probably because there were only a few books that were able to actually speak, and none of those few books were the one they had to read from. Plus, how seriously would a whole room of students take a book holding a wand?

She was sure it would be zero.

The Gryffindor stood outside of the classroom for a few extra minutes, though, book in hand and trying to cram as much information about the spell they'd be learning about that her little head could hold before finally giving up and entering the room.

Why was everyone concerned about the weather? They weren't going to be going outside, were they!? "Hello, Professor Fuller-Thompson." More like Professor Full Of Too Many Names.

Heath was a bit… ehh about this class. Granted, Charms wasn't quite as scary as DADA or Herbology, but there was the whole wandwork thing, which he wasn't good at. He could do the spells when he practiced on his own time, but something about being in a room full of people who could watch him fail threw him off. He got so worried about messing up in front of everyone that he did, which made him even more worried, and- Gah! It was a vicious cycle…

The dark-haired Ravenclaw was so distracted by his own thoughts that he didn't really look out the window at the weird weather. "Hello, Professor," he greeted, giving the man a polite nod of acknowledgment as he entered the classroom.

With the pleasantries out of the way, he made a beeline for his usual seat in the back row, somewhere where he'd be less likely to draw attention to himself when he failed at spell casting. He looked up at the words on the board as he arranged his supplies on his desk. He'd done the reading assignment, but that was the easy part. The hard part would come when they eventually had to perform the aparecium charm!

The thing about Cecelia was that even if she DID do the readings for class, she tended to have a million and one other things on her mind by the time class rolled around, so she miiiight not be the fastest one giving answers, sorry. She wouldn't be short on enthusiasm, though! That was usually her saving grace. "Hi Professor!" Hello.

The third year grabbed herself a seat and wiggled a bit, eyes on the sky outside. She longed for sunny days and flying, to be honest. This weather was the worst.

Islay had been quiet as she made her way into Charms, a small smile on her face. “Hello Professor Fuller-Thompson” she smiled happily, as she tucked her hair behind her ear. The kind Gryffindor had made her way to the back row and set herself next to Jones, ”Hello Heath,” she smiled and set about getting her things ready.

Charms, was always fun! It usually was a good lesson. And he was getting much better at it after 3 years and the beginning of the term. "Hello Professor." Blake added before taking his seat and getting prepared to begin.

Tom followed Blake into the room, he wasn't sure what he thought about charms, he still got confused why they didn't learn about how to be dashing and handsome and well charming, that's what he was used to when someone mentioned charms.

"Hi Professor." He smiled as he then walked over to an empty seat and plonked himself down on it.

'Twas a spooky day. Dark and damp. The kind of day that made a spritely lil Gryffindor want to turn into soup and melt into the floor. A sad day.

So, when he walked into Charms and the room captured some much needed brightness, Kale could have thrown his arms around the Charms Professor. "You sir," he said, shooting him some finger guns, "are the real MVP>" Most valuable Professor. Way to go, Fuller-Thompson.

Chloe couldn't help but be interested in the sky outside. It was such a pretty color, but the rain was keeping her from being outside and looking at it. She had been hyper focused on her training and her thoughts on what she wanted to do after school that when she saw the board she might have said a whoops without saying it aloud. She probably needed to get a little more focused on school and her NEWTS.

'Hello professor."

She glanced around wondering if Curtis was here yet she'd find the seat next to him, but not seeing him she headed towards a seat in the back. Waving at different friends as she went and taking out her parchment and quill once she settled in. Since she really didn't remember to read, she figured she better keep some good notes.

She was on time to charms, which wasn't surprising given she wanted to do something with advanced charms and potions after Hogwarts, but had she done her reading? That was a question to be confirmed at a later time. Which in case you're curious, not beyond reading what spell it was because aparecium was obviously related to apparition which was something any teenager couldn't wait to achieve.

"Good afternoon Professor, terribly weather eh?" she said, before finding a seat.
And the first one to arrive was Carsyn, which didn’t come as a surprise to the charms professor at all. She was a good student and very good at charms. Piers nodded at her as she sat down. ”Yes, quite,” he responded simply to her comment about the weather. Terrible indeed.

Ah, whatever. She had like ten minutes before class properly started, so she was going to read it now. "Hiya, Professor sir," she greeted the Groundskee--- er, professor, plopping her stuff down near the windows and cracking open her book. "I'm just refreshing my mind," she added as a just-in-case, and started skimming the reading.
And then there was Bernadette, early as well. He wasn’t surprised by that either. She was a good student when she wanted to be. Hopefully she was wising up just like Claudine was. ”Hello, Miss Grantham,” he responded she cracked open her book and flipped to the chapter. That ALSO wasn’t surprising. Of course she was just “refreshing”. He shook his head with a quiet sigh and looked towards the door again.

As she passed him by, her gaze traveled to the window, and she noted that same purple tint to the sky. "So what's up with the sky, Sir? Never heard of purple being a usual shade."

Isla followed Bernie to the seats near the window and took a seat herself. While her third year friend was interested in whatever the textbook had to say, Isla was curious about the sky. She still bet that there some kind of poisonous vapor up there somewhere...
Just in time to see Isla walk through the door, another one of the excellent charm students he had. He glanced out the window at her question. ”Not quite sure. Just Hogwarts up to its usual shenanigans, I suppose.” That’s what he was chalking it up as.

There was a frown on her face by the time she was in the room. “Hi, professor,’’ she said quietly. “Doesn’t the colour of the sky worry you?’’ Claudine’s frown deepened because she couldn’t help wondering if this was the sign of something ominous to come. And knowing Hogwarts' track records with such events…

The Snakette trailed off to take a seat at the usual spot at the back of the class. Hopefully no one would choose to sit beside her.
And there was Claudine. He was glad to see her on time and he wondered if she had made any progress towards her decision on a future career. He wondered about the frown, but of course it was about the sky. ”It’s a purple sky,” he said simply, as if he didn’t care at all. ”Not acid rain. I’m sure it’s nothing.” When in fact, he was quite sure it was something, but he wasn’t going to worry about it. At least not in front of the students just yet.

And yes, she had done the reading, so she would KNOW stuff for this class hopefully.

"Gooooood day to you, Professor Fuller-Thompson!" she said in an singsong way. "You should give us a quiz on the reading. See who read and who didn't." She smirked juuuuuust a tiny bit. It would make her grade good, see. Well, better than it was, which was good, so it'd be BETTER. And who cared if others failed? They should do their homework.
And there was the new girl - he was glad to see she was making it to her classes on time. ”Good day to you too,” he replied casually to her cheerful entrance, followed by a raised eyebrow when she suggested a reading quiz to rule out those who didn’t do the reading. How very Slytherin of her. ”Congratulations,” he said, amused, noticing the glares that were now coming her way. ”You just put a target on your back.” Everyone hated the kid that suggested a reading quiz. Now that was her.

Entering the classroom, Ewan couldn’t help but pull his robes a little closer, the chilly autumn air cutting a little too deep this afternoon. Between the weather and the skies which seemed to be getting darker quicker, the prefect was starting to feel the need to carry around a little jar of blue flames. Although, he did know there were some who might not be too happy with this so instead, he simply had several lays of clothes on underneath his robes. ”Good afternoon Professor. How was your morning?” a friendly smile on his face as he walked past her desk at the front of the classroom towards the rest of the children who were already sitting at a desk.

Sitting down at a random desk, the prefect pulled it out of his backpack and places it in front of him without opening it as though to deliberately trying to prove a point that he had in fact already read what she had asked them to. Briefly, he cast a glance over at the ever eager Aboli and just gave her a look because there was proving a point and then there was asking for a quiz. Uh, no thank you. As for the purple sky, Ewan wasn’t as concerned with it as some of the others seemed to be (Isla, Carsyn and Claudine) but his eyes did seem to find their way to the windows, settling on the windows and the rain that was hitting them.
And there was the prefect. Piers nodded at him. ”Just fine, thank you,” he responded, not really one for pleasantries and shooting the breeze before class. Besides, he was sure Ewan didn’t really care. And he saw that, by the way. The obvious book on the desk “I already did the reading” message.

Naya entered the classroom just in time to hear one of her classmates suggest a reading quiz. Seriously? Who does that? “Hello Professor”, she said, silently hoping that he didn’t take on the suggestion. She had done her reading, but still........ Spotting her dorm mate, Naya sat down next to her. “Hey Carsyn, she said cheerfully. Then she proceeded to get her supplies out for class. She’d be ready when it was time to begin.

But then she had noticed Aboli there, mentioning something about an exam.

"Oi. Oi. Oi. Class hasn't even started and you're already mentioning he should give us an exam?" She made a face at the girl and shook her head. Did she even do the reading? Probably not. Babs had read most of it, due to falling asleep in the common room after a whole day of potion making and studying.
Well, she didn’t look too well. Piers nodded at her, eyeing her for a moment. ”Afternoon,” he greeted in response. ”Feeling alright?”

Morgan took a seat near a window and pulled out his materials for class. Look at how prepared he was! But, yes, just a little pre-class skimming for good measure, even if he was tempted to stare out the window at the purpley storm sky.
Oh, kids. So full of energy. Energy he did not have. ”Hey yourself,” he replied, feeling tired already.

What? Everyone had an end of the world food menu. This was normal.
And then there was Kitt, another interesting kid. He was intrigued by him. And amused - did he not know you didn’t have to raise your hand if class hadn’t started yet? ”Obviously the world isn’t ending,” Piers said, trying not to SIGH. ”We’d be in a bit more of a panic if it were.” Probably.

It was so gloomy lately, and the odd colors were becoming a daily occurrence at Hogwarts. Moving away from the discussion on the apocalypse, Piers looked up when the next student entered. ”Afternoon,” he said pleasantly.

The Hufflepuff adjusted her bag before moving through the desks to locate a spot to sit.

She found one fairly quickly and sat down, pulling out her wand and her quills and parchment for note taking if needed. She had her book with her as well, but she waited for the Professor to start the lesson before pulling it out to follow along. Had she done the reading? Of course not, but she had at least down a quick scan to at least get herself acquainted with roughly what the Charm was supposed to do. She was just going to hope that was enough to get her through.

Glancing around the room, she gave a quick nod and a small towards all the familiar faces, before settling into her seat and facing forward once again.
Piers nodded at the Hufflepuff as she entered the room. ”Welcome,” he said as she sat down and gathered her things for class. Very good of her. Didn’t have to be prompted. Either that or she hadn’t done the reading.

Obviously.

Besides, she studying beforehand was the only way to make sure she could have an enjoyable final year. Nina did not plan on letting the miserable weather mess with what was supposed to be her best term yet. Graduating wasn't a big deal. She wasn't scared. Or terrified. Or hating thinking about it. Everything was fINE. She was FINE. The weather was FINE.

The lesson today would be FINE.

She slipped into the classroom very quietly and gave Professor Fuller-Thompson a polite smile. Not because she liked him, but because she was polite and showing respect to her professors was something she would do regardless of her opinions about them. And with that, she moved to find a seat in the middle of the room. Far away from the slackers in the back, like Cora Dredworth, and far enough from the front where the nerds sat. Middle. Just right.

Ah, Nina, Nina, Nina. Another day of not speaking to him during the lesson? Perhaps. He eyed her for a moment as she took a seat. Just to put her on edge.

The color-changing sky was definitely disconcerting, even as it piqued her artist’s eye. Pretty colors, but why were they there?

Nor was she quite as apt as that younger Gryffindor to believe Nem’s little suggestion that it was the apocalypse. Although, combining it with the appearance of Muggle weathermen at the gates, she was willing to make a guess that it was definitely something going awry with all the spells on the castle. As long as it didn’t lead to Dark wizards infiltrating Hogwarts, aside from some questionable Slytherins although on the whole she had nothing against the house, or anything particularly disastrous…she could handle pretty colors. Even dark and stormy pretty colors. It was called chiaroscuro, people.

“Good afternoon, Professor Fuller-Thompson,” she greeted the man with a smile, sliding into a seat somewhere between her sister’s and the windows, sliding notetaking materials out along with her textbook so as to be ready for whatever came next.

As to the subject of the reading she had done, all she could think about was that gossip paper she’d heard about from various extended family members who’d come here in the past.
And there was another prefect. ”Afternoon, Carys,” he responded as she entered the room and took a seat.

She gave their head of house a smile "Hello, Professor" she greeted before taking a seat.

Ah, and there was his prefect, right on time. Good. Leading by example. ”Hello, Prefect Kim.” No, of course he didn’t have favorites.

“Hello Professor,” she greeted the charms teacher before settling down - clearly very interested in the on going weather conversation that had stirred around her.

He glanced at the blackboard once before he opened up his bag and took out his text and note book as well as a pen before he folded his hands together.

"Please don't give a quiz. Please don't give a quiz" he muttered quietly.
Don’t worry - the professor wasn’t one to give pop quizzes. He hated them too, and hated grading them even more. ”Welcome,” he responded to the boy, noting the slight panicked expression on his face.

She still put on a smile and greeted the teacher at the front of the classroom: "Hello, Professor." The seventh year took a seat, looked out the window, then decided that the view did not make her feel good. So she stared straight ahead at the chalkboard instead while waiting for the lesson to begin.
”Hello to you,” the professor replied simply as the seventh year took a seat. She looked prepared - good.

Ah, another good attitude. There was a balance in the room again. ”Hello, Cole,” he greeted as the boy took a seat. And he was just about to greet the next student when the boy asked about the sky. Really. If he had walked in a couple minutes earlier he would know that Piers had no idea. The man sighed. ”No. I don’t.” And that was all he said.

Piers nodded at the next girl that walked in, blissfully unaware that she had spent the last few minutes cramming in the hallway. ”Afternoon,” he said simply.

When Heath entered the room, Piers nodded at the boy. ”Hello,” he responded in kind, minus the smile. It was just the way he was. He had noticed the boy liked to sit in the back, but he didn’t mind as long as he did well on his assignments.

The third year grabbed herself a seat and wiggled a bit, eyes on the sky outside. She longed for sunny days and flying, to be honest. This weather was the worst.
Ah, yes, enthusiasm. Lots of it. It was exhausting. ”Miss Summers,” Piers said with a faint smile. ”Welcome.” Perhaps her enthusiasm could act as a ray of sunshine on this dreary, oddly purple day.

Ah, Chloe. She seemed to be a good student, and a good influence on Curtis as far as he could tell. He hoped that was true. ”Afternoon, Chloe.” He wondered if he could pay her to keep an eye on his son for her...

After all the students had arrived and were seated and the top of the hour arrived, Piers used his wand to silently shut the door from the front of the classroom. Today was going to be a good lesson and, hopefully, one that they actually enjoyed. Piers kind of enjoyed creating lessons that made the students do things they didn’t enjoy (like cleaning), but he thought he’d give them a break today and have a fun activity. He was feeling nice today.

But first: discussion. ”Alright,” Piers said, pushing himself onto his feet, away from his desk. He rubbed his hands together. ”Let’s start a discussion. Today’s topic: being sneaky. What are some things that we as humans do to be sneaky? How do we hide things? Think outside the box, think magic. How do we hide objects, or hide ourselves or... anything, for that matter?” Students in this castle knew how to be sneaky, after all. There were lots of eyes in this castle, so some of them had to be pretty good at getting creative.

OOC: thanks for coming, everyone! So sorry for the delay! As a reminder, class has now begun, so don’t post your student arriving past this point unless you want them to face IC consequences. Class will move on in about 24 hours.

And put her on edge, it did.

Why was he looking at her like that!? Could he stop?? It was very unnerving! She hadn’t even done anything wrong yet! (Not that she would, Nina was a STAR pupil). (Always). (Even though she did not speak to Professor Fuller-Thompson, like, ever).

Nina waited patiently for class to begin. In the meantime, she took to organizing the things on her desk. She always had two quills set out, just in case. Two different pots of ink, so that she could color-code her notes in real time. Extra parchment was a must, though she only planned on using her notebook. Despite her usual arrangement, she still played around with putting quills on the right side of her desk, even though she ultimately settled for a left-hand side placement. These details were very important.

When Professor Fuller-Thompson began to address the class, she looked up. She was always slightly weary when it came to charms lessons. Last term he had made them stand under buckets of water. Then there was that time where they had to clean plates and someone WHACKED her in the back of her head with one. Fuller-Thompson always had something unenjoyable up his sleeve. Nina was on high alert, always.

So his first question was met with some suspicion, naturally. It didn’t innately sound like something that would lead to a horrible activity that she would absolutely hate. That much was promising. Of course Nina knew plenty about sneaking around. Disillusionment charms were helpful in that sense. As were charms to help quiet noise. She used those plenty when it came to spending alone time with Calyx. Not that this was something she would EVER share with her classmates (let alone Fuller-Thompson!!!). Matters regarding her relationship were private!

Anyway, knowing how to sneak around the castle with her boyfriend was vital. So she knew her stuff. Instead of raising her hand to share, however, she just jotted a few things down in her notebook. But Fuller-Thompson likely knew to expect this from her.

Islay was glad, of course, that she had been on time and that it didn’t seem as if the class was going to be all that loud. Even if she was curious as to why the sky was darker today than normal, it wasn’t right...was it? They weren’t like the usual blues and greys of fall...it was stormy and weird and honestly, it probably wasn’t a big deal right?

She was just going to pretend it wasn’t bothering her at all.

Okaaay, being sneaky...hmmm that was an interesting topic indeed. Raising her hand the brunette offered her simplest of answers, “humans for generations have used different inks in writing as a means to hide what they are saying – be it lemon or with magical alternatives like concealing charms.” see, simple answer.

She was just going to try and work as hard as she could today and maybe, just maybe, she could learn something sneaky herself. Who knew when all this could come in handy. Right?

Since Charms was one of his favourite classes, Drew made sure that he was sitting upright and paying attention, he even had some parchment and a quill in front of him. The Professor's question had him thinking for a bit, it wasn't an easy question because he was an open person and didn't know how to be sneaky.

"There's invisible ink." he said with his hand raised. "You can hide messages so that only the intended person could read them."

Being sneaky? Jina was terrible at that. She was the worst at playing hide-and-seek when she was a child. She was incapable of eating a late-night snack without being discovered by her strict mother. There were many other examples ... but those were all when she was in the muggle world. She knew plenty of magical methods to hide things! She raised her hand to answer the question.

"You can use the muggle-repelling charm to hide magical items or even large places, like this school, from muggles."

.... Was this the Professor's way of getting the students to admit all the things they do in the castle to be sneaky so they could use it against them ............... Blake was unsure he really wanted to answer this question. The professor was being sneaky with his question, maybe that's the answer Blake should give, but he was unsure if his Head of House would appreciate his cheek.

"Well, as wizards we often put charms on ordinary objects to they look like a standard bag on the outside, but inside is an entire room to store things." There .. that was a magical answer, and though not totally sneaky, it was kind of.

She smiled after the professor greeted her. She was quiet the entire time and played with the ends of her hair. It would be cooler if she had pink hair or maybe light purple. Very random thoughts until Professor Piers started the lesson. She quickly sat straight and had her thinking cap on. Yeah, she needs it for Charms class.

His first question was all about hiding stuff. OOooooOOOOOOOoooooHHHhhhh! what kind of stuff are they hiding? Because if it is something like a family heirloom, Gringotts offers a space for that. Is that considered like a hiding place to hide things we don't want people to get their hands on? Another thing comes to her mind too. It wasn't a spell but it is magic- he didn't exactly specify on anything. She raised her arm to give her answer "an invisibility cloak, professor?". If the topic is about being sneaky or hiding something, cover it with an invisibility cloak.

Bernie had the same thought as some of the others--- use invisible ink or an invisibility cloak, y'know, amongst her other ideas, because she had just done the reading and all.

But when she raised her hand, she closed her mouth and pointed to her lips, miming that she was being silent. After a long enough silence, she explained, "Quiet. To hide stuff, ya gotta learn how to be silent and not make a peep, especially if you're hiding something somewhere you're not supposed to hide things." Like, say, in a broom closet or under your bed or behind a tapestry on the fourth floor. Just a few hypothetical ideas there.

Raising his hand Cole answered confidently as the lesson and discussion got started. "You can use the Muffilato charm if you want to be sneaky and don't want anyone else to overhear your conversation if you and your friends for example are planning a prank or to do something against the rules. Not that I'd ever do that of course Professor."Cole hastily added at the end with a blush. He liked charms class. It was usually fun unless they were cleaning dishes of course.

A Poop * k8 *

That was too bad. Aboli would have O'd it out the park, you know, and she was very keen on good grades. At the moment, anyway. She was more worried about understanding material than good grades, but for now, she had good grades and wanted to keep it that way. There was a deep-seated fear of SOMETHING inside of Aboli, and it wouldn't dwell to get into that here.

So, Aboli merely smiled as Babs and Noah entered...and many people seemed to NOT WANT A POP QUIZ which only showed their weaknesses. Either fear of failure OR their failure to do what was asked of them - either way, Aboli felt superior, and that was very dangerous in the fifteen year old Aboli Song.

"Being sneaky is something we magic folk are good at. We have to be...in order to avoid detection from muggles. Isn't Hogwarts charmed so Muggles can't find it? Even if they go LOOKING for it?" Not that they would because they don't even KNOW about Hogwarts. Aboli pulled out her notebook to begin taking notes, though. Everyone was making great points...probably until Kitt opened his mouth again. He managed to say the dumbest stuff in class. Aboli almost felt sorry for him.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Oh good, no pop quiz!

Minjae let out a relieved sigh before leaning back in his seat as the professor started the lesson. The art of being sneaky. Were they really going to learn how to be sneaky? Minjae wasn't sure if THAT was such a good idea but he was going to be all ears for this lesson. hehe.

"There's the Disillusionment Charm" he said after raising his hand in the air. "It works like you're camouflaging yourself with your surroundings rather than becoming invisible" and now that he said this, the Hufflepuff wondered why he had never bothered to learn this charm. It was PERFECT for trying to sneak around! He lowered his arm and made a mental note to find out how to perform this charm.

Avalon could think of a few ways that wizards used magic to be sneaky - Polyjuice potions, Transfiguration, and invisibility cloaks all came to mind. But she assumed that Professor Fuller-Thompson probably wanted Charms-related answers. "Memory-modifying charms are pretty sneaky," she said after raising her hand. The fourth year hadn't learned how to perform them herself yet, but she couldn't think of a time when she would actually have to use them. She would feel too weird altering someone's thoughts without their permission, although she supposed she might have to if a Muggle ever saw her performing magic. "You can either erase a person's memory completely or add fake memories without the person knowing."

Alexandre liked being sneaky. It was fun. He never really did it because he needed to sneak around so as not to get in trouble or whatever. He just liked to do it because it was fun. He needed to be sneaky if he was pretending to be a spy or something. So he knew a few ways of being sneaky. There were the traditional magical ways of course, like the disillusionment charm or an invisibility cloak or something. But he didn't have an invisibility cloak and didn't known how to cast the disillusionment charm, so neither of those really jumped to the forefront of his mind. He raised his hand. "Professor, if you want to be sneaky you have to tiptoe. That makes it so people can't hear your footsteps."

Of course it wasn't the end of the world. Agreeing out loud was no fun though, so Nem just smiled faintly and looked back out of the window, at least until Fuller-Thompson spoke again.

The temptation to lean all the way back in the chair so that it fell over with them in it - but would, indeed, be flat on the ground - was strong, but there was a desk close enough behind that the manoeuvre was too complicated to really be worth it. Instead, Nem let the chair fall forwards again, so that the front legs slammed back onto the floor. "Sir, yes, sir."

Looking between Lazarus and Fuller-Thompson, Nem waited for the Head of House to move onto greeting more students before speaking quietly to the Gryffindor. "Hard to tell, if we're basing it on that logic. Old F.T.'s not really the panicking sort, nor's the Headsman. They might all just be acting normal 'cause they know there's nothing they can do, so as to not upset the little kids or whatever. Or they're just all in denial. Or they haven't figured it out yet." Nem had not read some entirely made up theories, and didn't mind sharing more with Lazarus if he was curious.

Not now though, because class was starting, and Nem would never want to disrupt a lesson.

What a topic. The obvious theme of the lesson - invisible inks and the Aparecium Charm - had already been touched upon, and Grantham had mentioned the only thing Nem would have been willing to say (which was, ironically, the concept of not saying anything), so... nah. Sitting out this one. Not claiming ignorance on the topic or anything - as everyone and their brother knew how to be sneaky, even if they were awful at it - just opting out of answering. Having weighed up the risk of seeming suspicious by saying nothing, against sharing something that could potentially tip off student or staff, Nem had decided that silence had fewer drawbacks.

Ewan just listened for a moment as the some of the other children gave various answers and then raised his hand to answer himself.

Sneaky? ”How about give a ridiculous amount of homework right before a test? okay, that was just a joke but you know, kind of funny too.

Now for an actual answer. ”Someone could use the fidelius charm. It’s difficult and complex to use but it could be used to conceal a secret inside an someone’s soul”. Would this be classed as sneaky? Possibly. It would really depend on the secret you were hiding.
