As you enter the divination tower this afternoon, you notice that Professor Yoon has transformed it into a tea room. Round tables are set up with the Professor's desk at very front with a jar of fortune cookies. On each table you will find crumpets, scones with butter and some varieties of jam, and of course the tea! If you don't want to drink tea, there is a table on the left side of the classroom where you can find coffee, milk orange juice and water. The Professor is leaning on her desk, waiting for the students and sipping her tea.

Don't forget to take a fortune cookie before you take a seat. Feel free to enjoy the food and the drink while waiting for your classmates!

Mel wasn’t speaking much on the whole factors that effect readings bit…really, she didn’t know much about it other than clearly there were far too many factors to count. Possibly the most prevalent being the readers state of mind before heading into the reading…besides, the shapes one saw would most likely be up to the readers interpretation.

There wasn’t a clear and definite answer was there? It was divinations; the art of delving into the future and into the unknown and it was still possible that some things shouldn’t be known? Right…or was she just a little out of it? She didn’t really know.

Mel took a deep breath as she started to clear her mind and forget all negative things…but that was hard, negative things were so easy to remember…isn’t that what India said about the business? Don’t bother the customers or they might tell their friends how annoying the shop was?

Janelle listened as her classmates continued to give their thoughts on the previous question. Then the professor shed some light on what really would and would not affect tea leaf readings. Janelle made some notes as she went along and then stopped when it was deemed mediation time.

Alrightey then. Janelle could always use some time for mediation, especially where Divination was concerned. It always seemed like there were a hundred things going on in her mind all at once. In order to be effective at the task, she would have to banish those thoughts from her head.......or at least keep them at bay.

Janelle sat up straight and closed her eyes. Then she took several slow, deep breaths. She imagined those stray thoughts leaving her brain with each exhalation. Keeping a clear mind was always the hardest part for her. When a thought tried to creep back in, she would kindly escort it back out again. Rainbows and unicorns, yeah? Happy thoughts and then no thoughts at all. Janelle began to tense and relax her muscles from head to toe. That always helped her to get into a more relaxed state. Now if she could only keep it that way until the task got started.

So the amount of time in which someone consumed their tea didn't entirely matter. Fair enough. She couldn't always know everything in every single lesson though she did try. Lately her mind was in fog and most of the time the sixth year wasn't even aware of things that were taking place around her. Not today though. Today she was more in focus then usual being as this was a lesson 'he' wasn't in. That meant good things for her.

Hadleigh shifted in her seat sitting back and getting comfortable. Her head fell back lightly against the seat, her long brunette hair tumbling down around her shoulders and framing her face. Not bothering to brush her hair aside she slowly shut her eyes following the meditation instructions that were just given to them. Relaxed and with her eyes now closed Hady slowly breathed in through her nose before letting the breath out through her mouth. It wasn't as easy to fully clear her mind of everything as somewhere in the back of her mind those lingering thoughts were there. After a few quiet minutes and some extra focus on her part she was able to think of nothing, her mind clear as she continued to take slow even deep breaths.

Where was it that Rooney had read about the bladder thing? A magazine in a bathroom. It was insane how spot on his answers could be if he put his mind to it. And also how spot on they could be if he referred to things he had read in boredom and waiting or...just toilet time. They were getting to the part of the class where Rooney was completely tuned out and didn't want to be here for much longer, though...

He supposed his lack of thinking and focus was some sort of meditating.

While the students were doing the meditation, Sora flicked her wand to the board and revealed the steps of the activity today.

Rim - area is above the tea level when you first poured your tea represents the current moment in time.

Middle - area between the rim and bottom, represents near future (2 weeks)
*Both the rim and middle section represent influences in your outcome.

Base - The bottom of the cup below the middle section, represents the ultimate answer or conclusion.

6. Open your textbook and write your results in a parchment.

She looked at her watch... Okay, it's time to start the activity. "Okay guys, time's up! But if you still need to meditate, you can do it while waiting your tea brewed." The Divination professor spoke up. "Now we start with the reading. The cup that you are gonna use is on your table." She pointed to the cup, please don't break it. "I have provided the hot water in a cauldron there, and the tea leaves are on your table." She pointed to the table on her right side. You can work with a partner or alone, I have no preferences."

Sora clasped her hand and continued talking again. I know that some of you don't like tea or maybe... a little bit suspicious that you might get poisoned or shrunk..." Blame Professor Myers for that. Come on, Sora Yoon wasn't kind of person who liked to do a harm, especially to the innocent students. "But you have to drink the tea if you want to do the reading." Sorry...

"You guys may begin now. I'll be around, and you have a question just raise your hand."

Hadley wanted to answer gagging as a thing that can effect a reading. Obviously. But the tone of the Professor's voice and the look she gave Hads kinda told the girl it was better if she said nothing. So instead, Hadley kept silent and sipped her orange juice.

Oh, and now they were meditating. Okay. Hadley had never meditated before. Should be easy though right? Clear her mind. Clear her mind. Mind clear. Clear...Maybe she doing the wand movements wrong when trying to cast a flying charm on her snowboard. Perhaps a little more flourish to the movement, or a little less. She was saying the words right though, wasn't she?

MIND CLEAR! Mind clear. clear mind. Merlin, she could go for a pizza right now.......That's not clearing the mind! What would her animagus form be? She hoped a lioness to be frank, but would it be that? Maybe if she...UGH!!! Hadley took a few deep breaths and tried hard not to think about anything at all.

What if she cast the hover charm on the board first...GAH!!!!

No thoughts.

Just as she finally succeeded, the Professor called time. But hey she succeeded. A little.

Okay so it was super hard to meditate in a classroom when he had a fair amount of paranoia that this professor could also be a people eater. Jaemin twitched a little and, with a look at the woman, closed his eyes to give it his best shot. That was the most he could do, right? The diminutive Slytherin breathed softly in and out, wondering why so many of their classes required this type of thing. Paul did this all the time too. If many more started, Hogwarts would soon be the most zen place in the world.

They'd reached the part of class though... where Jaemin wasn't sure he could keep participating. Because when the professor called for their attention, and explained everything, his little expression went all guarded and worried. He had to drink tea to actually... you know... do the thing she wanted them to do. He still had trust issues, okay?! Lots and lots of little boy trust issues. And there were too many variables!! She could have poisoned the tea leaves. She could have poisoned the water. SHE COULD HAVE POISONED THE CUP. Too many things could go wrong. TOOOOOO MANY.

He would just... wait. And see if others drank the tea and didn't turn into food zombies for the child-eating overlord. With a look of supreme distaste, Jaemin pulled his cup toward him and pointed his wand into it.

"Scourgify." There... at least that was safe.

Aha! So Grandma-- errr Aunt Caroline was using some kind of special cup, and this Gryffindor nodded his head when he heard the different type of cups. Zodiac. That was most likely the cup his Grandma was using, because his zodiacs were special sort and yeah lots mumbo jumbo he couldn’t quite grasp.

Meditation time? Oh oh oh he was real keen on meditation time. That’s pretty much the grown up code for NAPPING. He used to hate that word-- as most adults made him take a nap when he didn’t want to-- but hey this is authorized napping, and with a nice dainty place like this, Tenacius kicked up his knees, bracing it against the table, leaned against the other table and caught some Zsssss....

-- whoah wait what?? Class over what?

No... The Professor clapped her hands and was saying something to those who didn’t like tea or something. The Curly Top rubbed his eyes and tried to focus on what is going on. Theres writing on the board and he could see the other students fussing over the cup on their table. He flipped his over and grinned. Zodiac cups. Just like what Grandma uses.

Of course this by no means is any indication of his skill with the tea leaf reading. If anything he would poke the leaves around the cup and actually make shapes out of the leaves. But looking at the board, thaaaat shouldn’t be attempted at all.

But right he's still kinda drowsy and he still needs to brew his tea. Being real comfortable where he was at, he went to wait for some helpful Hufflepuff to distribute the hot water. Because there is always a helpful Hufflepuff. That’s like the laws of nature.

With his cup all filled he plopped his tea leaves, watching it swirl and sink as it absorbed the water. Swirl swirl goes the tea leaves.....

Olly was not good at meditating. In fact it was one of the things he was worst at. It involved sitting still for a long period of time, which was something he could not really do, and clearing his mind, which was also something he'd never been able to do. But he tried. He sat in his chair and closed his eyes, trying not to think of anything. But of course all he could think was what he should not be thinking of. He breathed in and out, that was easy, but it didn't feel like what he thought meditation was supposed to feel like. He didn't feel more relaxed or anything, but then the time was up and he had to go make tea.

He knew how to make tea, so the first few instructions were not completely necessary. He put the water in his cup and added the tea leaves. After allowing enough time for it to brew he also added a couple of spoonfuls of sugar, the way he liked it.

Holding it in his non dominant hand was strange, but if that's what the instructions were then he would do it. He sipped, trying to keep his mind as clear as possible. He focused on the taste of the tea. That was fine. It was a tangible thing for him to think about so he did. It had almost enough sugar, he should have added a bit more but it was too late now. It was...minty. He liked that, it was his favorite kind of tea.

Making a face, Hadley looked down at her tea cup and whimpered a little.

She didn't want to drink it. But she did want to do the reading. UGH! Okay. Hadley focused on the first step, and poured the hot water into her cup. Her face intensified as she added the leaves, handling them like they were a disgusting thing that would contaminate her. Once they were in, she immediately added plenty of sugar and honey, and stirred the concoction a few times before letting it simply brew.

Time to relax and clear her mind again. Relax and clear her mind. Relax and...her mind was wandering again. To thoughts of what it would be like to be an animal. To shift into one at will whenever she wanted. What animal would she become? What was Asher up to at this very moment?

Ugh. Blank mind. Blank thoughts. Empty head. Relax and empty the mind.

Now the theme song to Born Free was in her head.

Azura's eyes slowly slid open as the Professor spoke and she looked up at the board at all the steps they were about to do. She bit her lip a little as she read about nagging thoughts in her head. Perhaps she could try to find another lingering memory that needed to be dealt with, or maybe she could push everything away all together..

She guessed she would find out soon enough. But first, it was time to set up the tea.

She was going to do this alone, there was no reason that anyone needed to help her. She had been doing most of her grieving alone, and if that was the lingering thought in her head, she didn't want anyone else to find out about it. So, alone it was.

She picked up her cup and moved over the the Cauldron of hot water and carefully filled it two thirds of the way full, just like the instructions had said. She carefully carried her cup back to her table, the last thing she wanted to do was to spill hot water on herself! She sat down and then added the tea leaves and sat back for a few moments to allow it to brew.

She tried to relax a bit, she closed her eyes and attempted to clear her mind once again..

Yaay! They were getting onto the reading now. That was the exciting part. Whilst Hattie didn't like tea too much, she was excited to do some tea reading. She figured she probably wouldn't be very good at first, but it was worth trying. First though, she wrote all of the instructions down into her notes. This way she wouldn't forget anything

Smiling, she looked at the first instruction. Okay. So she needed to fill the cup. She took her cup, and went over to the cauldron of hot water. Carefully Harriet filled up her cup to the correct level. Then slowly she headed back to her seat. She didn't want to spill hot water all over her hand, so she was really careful.

Now she had to add her leaves. Gently, she placed the tea leaves into her cup. She hadn't had a cup of tea made with actual tea leaves and not a tea bag before, so it was going to be a nice new experience actually. Okay. Time to brew for a few minutes. She could do that. She added a little bit of sugar into the tea as it brewed though. She needed sugar or it would taste yacky.

Smiling, she waited as her tea brewed.

The meditation period ended and Emma was sad, now they had to continue to actual Divination. While it was a semi-interesting subject, Emma Joy Ross was not a strong believer in predicting the future with silly things like the tea leaves they were about to read. Emma believed in factual information and the truth, which was not revealed by leaves.

At least they got to use a cool cup. Emma almost didn't want to perform the activity because the cup was so pretty to look at. But she knew she needed to actually follow the instructions so she retrieved the hot water and filled her cup 3/4 full as the instructions on the board said. Fortunately she was still able to see the pretty images of the cup. That was about to be ruined though, as Emma picked up her tea leaves and filled the cup. Carefully she took a spoon and stirred a few times before allowing the leaves to settle.

Now she just had to wait the 2-3 minutes for it to brew. Then the weird stuff.

Once a few minutes had passed and Azura was sure her tea had steeped enough, she carefully took her cup with her left hand, which was her non dominant one and ever so slowly started to sip her tea. It was hot.. and slightly bitter cause she hadn't added any sugar. She knew she could of, but she wanted to do a proper reading!

She leaned back in her chair as she slowly sipped the hot liquid, just trying to relax and focus.. Was there one thought that was bothering her? Of course there was! There was several, but there was one that just kept popping up over and over again..

Why did her mom leave her?

Was she not a good enough child? Was she too clumsy? Too annoying? To emotional? Had she bothered her too much? Made her life to hard? Did her mom blame her for Azura's Dad leaving and that's why she left? Why..did she have to go and die and leave her alone? Didn't her mom know that Azura needed her? She NEEDED her!! Who was she going to turn to when things got complicated with Jace? How was she ever going to learn to put on makeup? Who was ever going to hug her the way her mother did? Her arms could make everything better.. Why did she go away?

Azura was trying to to cry as the thoughts raced through her head and she looked down to see that her tea was nearly gone. She swallowed back her tears as she took a deep if not shaky breath. She needed to relax more.. As much as she could!

She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to stem the whirling thoughts in her head before she opened her eyes and took the cup in her hand and swirled the left over tea in the cup, three times. She then gently turned her cup upside down and took three breaths as she waited for all of the tea to drain out.

Well, here went nothing.

Olly was enjoying his tea with the clearest mind possible. He thought he had done an okay job with it. When there was just a little bit left he stopped drinking and swirled the cup, letting the tea circle around in there one, two, and three times. Then he turned it upside down, letting the leftover tea spill out onto the saucer. That was weird. He didn't really understand why that was necessary. It seemed...unnatural. They were disturbing the tea leaves so how could they be accurate? But he didn't care enough to ask so he just moved on.

He let the cup stay tipped over for a bit before he turned it back upright. Now it was time to do the actual reading and future telling stuff. He studied the shapes on the bottom of his cup for a bit before opening his book. This couldn't be too hard to mess up, right? All he had to do was read from the book. But he stared at his cup, and then glanced toward the professor. Olly raised his hand.

"What do we do if the shape is over this line?" He tried to indicate without touching the inside of the cup because that would mess up the reading. "It's on both the middle and the bottom so how do we know what that means?" He knew the shape meant the same thing of course, but if each section was for a different time, how did he know if it applied to his near future or was the ultimate answer - whatever that meant.

Tenacius pulled himself up onto his seat, pretending that he just didn’t flop onto his head as he went trotting off into dream land. Oh hey look his tea has just about cooled. So what next?.... 'Drink tea with non-dominant hand' he murmured, reading the board aloud. Right, grab the cup with his left hand and sluuuuurrrrrp….

*cough cough* BLAAAAAANNNDDD *cough*

Ok so little bit of tea left on the cup… aaaaand what is he thinking about for the reading?

THUD! The noise and had pulled the second year from her calm state of mind for only a moment. The meditation had done its desired effect and she was not wanting simply to make sure that whoever fell was alright. Oh…it was Tenacius.

Glancing at him for a moment she simply gave him a look that asked ‘you alright?’ before she reached forward and holding onto the delicate and warm tea pot. Pouring the water into her cup she continued to eye it judging when it was right to stop filling the cup with the hot liquid. With the water filled she added in a few spoonfuls of the tealeaves nearest her and few small sugar cubes and then she waited.

The waiting was the hardest part normally, but now, with tea it wasn’t half as bad. That was more because she could watch in awe and admiration as the liquid changed colors adopting the natural color of the leaves as they continued to steep in the water.

You know what Charlotte totally hadn't done so far? Paid attention. It wasn't because it was boring, but because she KNEW this stuff already. Her MUM was a SEER and honestly after a while? It kind of got OLD. But she WAS happy to drink some tea!

Maybe she'd get shrunk again!!!!!

But okay, she was NOT going to do hot water first, that was just silly. Who even taught this professor how to make tea? The only reason people ever said to do that was to warm the cup before putting the water in, and Char could do that just fine with a warming charm. So she did.

Tea leaves went in next, and then she headed over to pour some hot water into her cup, ON the leaves, three quarters full. Now she had to let it steep but GOSH three minutes was a LONG TIME to sit and do nothing!

Fiyero was surprised. He was the only one to get the last question right? That had never happened to him before... but still it was awesome!

Professor Yoon said something about needing to clear their minds of negative vibes, but FIyero didn't really have any negative feelings at the moment. Sure, he was a little concerned about his little sister back home and the upcoming charms challenge - and then there was his father's persistent disdain for the wizarding world. But all things considered, he was in a pretty good mood.

He took a deep breath, closing his eyes, but clearing his mind was a lot harder than he thought. Too many distracting thoughts kept popping up. Is Ariel doing alright without me? Did the Bats win their match last night? I wonder what Dash is up to. I should go to the owlery and visit her later...

FIyero shook his head. Focus, Fiy! he told himself sternly. Just when he was finally starting to feel relaxed, he heard Professor Yoon's voice again. He looked up to see a list of directions written on the board. Finally, the fun part!

He picked up the teacup nearest him and went to the front of the room to fill it. He didn't understand why he couldn't just use the cup he'd already been drinking out of... It looked like that would be a lot easier than getting a new one, but nevermind! Upon returning to his seat, he added the tea leaves to his cup. Now the waiting game begins...

Three minutes later (or thereabouts), Fiyero reached for the nearest sugar. He was glad to know it wouldn't affect the reading because ta alwasy tasted better with lots and lots of sugar. After adding not one, not two, but three sugars, he took a sip of tea. Still not sweet enough... needs more sugar!

Janelle thought she was about as relaxed and clear headed as she was going to get. Just then, Professor Yoon called time and it was on to the main activity. When the information for the activity appeared on the board, Janelle added it to her notes. Then it was time to get started.

Janelle picked up her tea cup and carried it over to the cauldron containing hot water. She filled her cup the required 3/4 full and returned to her seat. Placing the cup back on its matching saucer, she retrieved the necessary tea leaves. Janelle added the leaves to her hot water and proceeded to wait. She didn't really like her tea to be very strong. Now that was a question she should have asked. How does the amount of time you let the tea brew, affect the outcome of the reading? Oh well, she'd let it sit the recommended 2-3 minutes, preferably two.

When she thought the tea was ready, Janelle added some sugar to it. She could tolerate sugar free hot tea if she had too, but since sugar wouldn't affect the results.......she'd go with the sweetness. Checking the instructions again, Janelle waited for the tea to cool enough for her to drink.

Char had to sweeten her tea, so she got up to get some honey, and added two teaspoons of it and happily leaned over the steaming mug to watch the honey melt. The time being up, she reached for her cup with one hand, stopped, and then reached and grabbed with the other because she was ambidextrous and tended to switch hands anyways and therefore couldn't really call one more dominant than the other and then tried to focus.

On something.

Anything.

There were SO many possible things she could choose that it was too HARD to settle on one. So that meant this would be a general reading? Char sipped her tea. Class was quiet, huh? She looked around idly and let her mind wander.

Sora walked around the class and watched her students. Everyone seemed doing great and enjoyed this activity. She saw a student raised a hand, calling for help or something. "Yes, Mr. Thomas-Borzekowski?" Woah, what a mouthful name, she thought as she approached the Slytherin boy. The divination professor took a look at his cup and thought for a while.

"I think it locates more at the bottom." She gave an opinion. "The thing about divination is you have to trust your own judgement and be sure about every decision that you're gonna take. So the answer is in your hands," She nodded. "you did good though."

Olly was just going to continue for now determining what the shapes meant. He'd do the one that was across the middle and bottom line last. There was one shape solidly on the very bottom of his cup. It looked like...a collection of tea leaves at the bottom of a cup. This was the part he was bad at. None of them really looked like anything to him. He frowned, but took a deep breath and tried again. It was just like finding shapes in the clouds. He could do that so he could do this. Olly peered at the shape again. He supposed it kind of looked like a...butterfly. Yeah, that was it. It was a butterfly. He found that in his book and made a quick note.

There was a small fleck on the rim, but that was even harder to try and determine a shape. It was just a fleck. It was barely even big enough to constitute mentioning so it was hard to try and come up with what it looked like. Maybe it did look a bit like an acorn? A very very tine acorn. He went with it. Health, strength, and gain through industry. That didn't sound too bad. Olly wrote that down too.

Her mediation period was disturbed by voices. Well one voice. The Professors to be exact as the lesson was moving on. Slowly Hadleigh let out a breath as her eyes opened and turned towards the Professor once more. With a semi almost completely clear mind she picked up her quill once more and began to take down the rest of the notes. There were steps to follow for tea leaf reading and if she were to do it correctly she would have to be paying attention.

First things first she would need the hot water. And her tea leaves. Getting to her feet she picked up three tea leaves and her tea cup carefully carrying it over to the cauldron of hot water. Carefully filling her cup three quarters of the way with water she then added in the tea leaves watching them a moment. Before she could make the mistake of adding sugar or honey she returned to her table with the cup in hand.

Setting her cup down she waited for it to cool a little. As the cooling was happening Hady focused her mind on nothing making sure to push all thoughts aside even that incredibly stubborn one that had been nagging at her brain for roughly a month or so now. It needed to leave her alone for just a few minutes...

Fiyero started to pick up his teacup with his right hand, but then he saw Professor Yoon's instructions about holding the cup with his non-dominant hand and switched to his left. He didn't see why it mattered which hand he used to hold the cup. Divination had some really weird rules!

He was tempted to guzzle his tea (once he finally had it sweetened to his liking) so he could get to the reading faster, but he distinctly remembered something about focusing on the taste of the tea and forced himself to drink more slowly. He tried to clear his mind, but his thoughts kept wandering back to his dad... the way he threw himself into his job, the way he forced him to attend a muggle school where he was miserable, the fight they had after he got his Hogwarts letter. Why did he hate the wizarding world so much?

Fiyero scoffed under his breath. Were these tea leaves really supposed to tell him about his relationship with his dad? Well, there was only one way to find out! He stared at his nearly empty cup. He knew he was supposed to swirl the tea around three times, but did it matter which direction he swirled it? Was clockwise supposed to be better than counterclockwise? Since Professor Yoon hadn't said anything about it, he assumed not.
