Default Charms Lesson 1, Room 1

The door to the charms room is wide open, but as you walk in you will notice that there are not desks, no seats, no professor. Just a big empty room with many glass cabinets around the walls. What could possibly be going on and where would Professor Primeaux be that he wasn't there. As you stand and wait you might notice that there are enough glass cabinets for every student in the school, one right on top of the other.

As the last person comes into the room the door shuts and a voice echos the room. It seems Professor Primeaux had the room charmed to record and play his own voice. "Good morning students. As you might have noticed the room is empty and I have decided not to formally attend at the moment. After the things I have seen from the students here at Hogwarts I've decided you need a test on how much you want to learn and succeed. My job is to teach you, but I can only teach students that want to try and work hard. Your first test directions are on the board in the front of the room."

Writing appears on the board with the direction for the students first activity.

Inside the box will be the number code to get into the next room. You can not get into the next room without using the numbers. Each number code will permit one person through.

First years I know this is your first lesson in charms so this will be your biggest test. Your fellow students that are older then you especially your student leaders are there to help you, be good role models for you, and show you what a leader and a classmate really is. They should be helping you with the spell if you need it, so do not hesitate to ask. Do not be afraid to fail, it will only help you learn and become better.

Good Luck

OOC: Hello everyone! Just as Julien said he has given your charrie a test right away! What you need to do is have your character do the steps and you can say whether they are doing well or not. Please be realistic about your students age and ability. If they don't make it through that is alright, that is what makes the RP fun everyone being different. You can work alone or with partners. I will be posted quoting your post once you have RP'd the steps (each step should be a post, so four post at the minimum) with the number code and the entrance into the next step. Have fun and any questions please let me know. Julien might not physically be there, but he would never leave a group of students unsupervised fully. If you have not made yourself and your charrie aware of his rules, please do so here.

Just to Clarify!

Some of you have messaged me today so I wanted to ease your concerns!

1. Breath there is no deadline at the moment. I'm going with the flow of the Rp's right now. If I need to put a time I will give you a 24 hour notice maybe longer!

2. Work at your own pace!PLEASE don't get overwhelmed by the post count. I have not posted any directions other than right here! So read here and go have fun! I don't want anyone missing out because they see seven + pages and think they are too far behind. YOU ARE NOT!! I promise!

2. No, not every student is expected to know these spells like above it is okay to play a first year failing, or any Charrie really. At the end everyone will be allowed into the last area!

3. Thank you for having fun! I'm so enjoying reading these so far.

There comes a time where things do need to wrap up! I would like to move on Tuesday, January 12. So I will be closing room 1 and 2 at that point. You will have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. EST to finish up on any of your post! Once these are closed it will be said that door have opened for your character to just go straight to the classroom! Remember it is okay if your character did not get all the way through!!

Pffttt, reading the board she let out a puff of air, work in groups yeah right. She did her best work alone. Can anyone say typical angry snake over here, yup.

Taking a closer look she fully read what she needed to do. "sounds easy enough" walking over to the place where she needed to open. While fumbling for her wand, she was sure it was there, she had placed it in her robes this morning. It was the first thing she always did, even before putting on makeup.

Finally feeling the handle she pulled it out and did her wand movement but her robes sleeves were tangling her. So when she said "Alohomora" nothing seemed to happen. "ughhhhh" okay it was time for her to try again.

Making sure her sleeves were rolled up she did it again and her cabinet slowly opened once she was finished with the wand movement and incantation.

Freshly showered and fed after her morning run, Marsha had her hair neatly braided so that it was back out of her face and it wouldn’t be a distraction throughout class. When she arrived to find an empty classroom without a Professor part of her wondered what was going on, while the rest of her chalked it up to Hogwarts. Never a dull moment.

As the door slammed closed behind them, she raised an eyebrow slightly but paid full attention to the voice of their new professor. Okay, Cabinet and Box. Open, Lock. Open, Lock. She wondered silently if that order was important, but supposed that if this was a test it wasn’t the type of thing you wanted to chance. Nope, Gryffindor had far too many points to catch up on for taking stupid chances… Or for Gryffindoring as Professor Airey had told them.

Weaving through the students to find a space, Marsha found a lower down cabinet, figuring that there was no point in stretching upwards when she was so short. Heck, a lot of the first and second years were taller than her. Fingering the hand of her wand, and rotating it slowly in her hand, she took a few deep breaths to center herself and to think about what she wanted to do. As she raised her wand and pointed it at the glass, she spoke clearly, picturing the latch letting go to let the door free. ”Alohamora!”

She smiled as she heard the ‘click’ seconds before the door swung open for her.

"You made it! I thought you were going to ditch." The second year immediately began digging in his book bag. "Here!" He said offering his cousin's wand to him. "I figured you'd be needing this, even though I'm sure you're not going to use it. It's the best the professors think you're using it even if you're not." "So the spell is pretty easy really...you just need a bit of practice." Which he had plenty of. "Pick a cabinet." They'd clearly be doing this together.

Bentley please.

Blaise stared at his wand for what felt like an eternity before reluctantly taking it into his grip. As always it felt like nothing but a piece of wood he was obligated to take with him. "I want that cabinet, you can have the one next to it." There was no enthusiasm as he spoke, just....picking a cabinet,

The 12 year old took a step back, giving his cousin enough room.

"All yours mate."

Then they could get the stupid boxes and move to the stupid room. Profess at its finest.

Norah entered the charms classroom with a big grin. This hadn't been her worst OWL ever. Professor Primeaux seemed nice enough, too, so it'd probably be good. Good enough to warrant a smile, at least. At least one in Yoongi's direction. She went to stand beside him, peering around the room for any sign of the professor, when the door shut with a thump and Professor Primeaux's voice echoed through the classroom. Holy guacamole. That was new. Her eyebrows went up. A TEST? A written test? Please say no please say no written tests are absolutely positively frowned upon, in her book. She could really do without them. Forever. She even let out an audible sigh of relief by the time she got through reading the instructions on the board. She KNEW those spells. For the first time EVER she KNEW something. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but it didn't happen that often so Norah reserved the right to be excited.

The Prefect moved towards one of the cabinets with wand in hand, focused on the lock, and took a deep breath before casting "Alohomora!" with a smooth movement of her wand. She heard a click and her face split into a beaming smile, and she looked around quickly just in case somebody had SEEN. SHE had seen. It was a MIRACLE. Maybe sixth year wouldn't even be a huge ginormous loss. Or maybe it was just Sophie Brown's spirit hanging around the classroom. If she didn't know Sophie Brown had much better things to do than lurk here, Norah might've really believed that. It was nice to think about, in case something did go wrong.

SPOILER!!: Kaylee

"Hello Prof-" She trailed off when she realized that Professor Primeaux wasn't there. 'Huh? Where could he be?' She was puzzled. All of sudden a voice echoed through out the classroom. Kay was so startled she gave a little yelp. She blushed and hoped no one noticed. She calmed down when she realized it was must of been Professor Primeaux's voice. She paled when she heard "Test". "A test?!? But.... I haven't learn anything yet!

She then noticed the words that appeared on the board. 'Alohomora'? 'I can do that!' Kaylee had watched her parents and her sister, Michelle, do that all the time back home.

The curly haired girl pulled out her wand and walked to an empty glass cabinet. "Alohomora!" she said waving her wand at the cabinet..... nothing happened. She tried a few more times and failed each time. 'What am I doing wrong?' She glanced around her trying to find an older student that could possibly help "Can someone please help me?" she asked quietly
With her spell completed, Norah scanned the room in search of anybody who needed help. It was a WEIRD feeling to be able to help people in this sort of situation, but she had no complaints. At all. It was almost like feeling smart, which was strange but kind of wonderful. Okay, really wonderful. She had no expectation for it to last, but she'd enjoy it ANYWAYS. Her hazel eyes caught sight of an ickle badger who couldn't unlock her cabinet, and when the younger girl asked for help, the Hufflepuff zoomed over with smile in place. "Hey there. D'ya need help?" She had to ask, okay? The little one could've been talking to herself. Norah'd be lying if she said she never did that, and lying was off limits. She held her wand up and slowly demonstrated the wand movement, and then again. "I think it helps to really practice all the bits of the spell separately first. So, first I'd take my wand out and practice the wand movement a few times all by itself." She demonstrated the movement again, trying hard to keep her hand from quivering from the EXCITEMENT of it all. "And then I'll say the incantation a few times without any movement or anything. Y'know so I'm sure I'm saying it exactly right. You've gotta do that with spells, if you say something wrong you can do something really different than you wanted to." Like turning your ears into turnips or something. That sounded awfully unpleasant. "And then when you're all practiced, you can put the parts together and aim at the lock, but you've got to really really think about it. Like REALLY think about it. You can't think about your lunch and try to cast a spell at the same time. I've tried it, it doesn't really work." She grinned at the younger girl, 'cause if she WAS thinking about her lunch then they really could be kindred spirits, then took a small step back so she'd have space to try the spell. "So yeah, concentration is important. AND confidence, apparently. You can do it! I'm sure you can. You don't have to get it on one of your very first tries." It wasn't like Norah'd ever done anything right on her very first try, and she'd made it this far without flunking. That was no small feat.

Melbourne Johanson simply stared at the instructions on the board in front of her. It was nerve wracking really, she had never once in her life cast an unlocking charm, and if she could have she would have really, all the best things were locked away.

The Professor’s voice was echoing through the room like some eerie horror movie…it was AWESOME. “I’ve got to do spells without an instructor?” Mel was CONFUSED so confused it wasn’t normal for a first year to be left alone without any instruction was it?

Watching the students Mel couldn’t help but notice Sha trying to open a lower cabinet and followed her. Taking out her wand she began to mimic her…well…sort-of-cousin’s wand movements. Walking over to the low cabinet she muttered “Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah” was that right? Now copying Marsha’s movement she swished her wand in an S shape and spoke out the spell in a quiet voice “Alohamora”…wait was that a click! She wondered as she watched the door swing open.

“I did it!” She grinned to herself more than to anyone else…she was smug. Very smug.

Lucy was looking forward to all the classes, okay? Over the past few days, everything had sunk in. There really was a school in the middle of nowhere Scotland - she was inside it. And there were a BUNCH of people there with her. People her age and only slightly older - students. Then, there were ADULTS. So, obviously, everything was safe if adults were around. Not only that, they were teachers. Everyone seemed to call them "professors" which was a bit funny, but it was the same job, nonetheless. And THEN, they were doing magic! She was doing MAGIC! She had that wand and she actually used it for common room reasons. It was amazing!

NOW SHE WAS GOING TO LEARN REAL SPELLS!

Charms, specifically. Who even knew there were different kinds of spells?

Lucy followed a majority of Hufflepuffs (that word still made her giggle) after breakfast to where their first class was. FIRST! CLASS! It was especially exciting! And filed inside like everyone else, only to be overcome with suspicion.

It seemed that every time she thought she was getting the hang of this place, something came along to make her doubt it. Like...there being no adults here. No teachers. No professors. What kind of teacher didn't show up to teach the first lesson of the year???

She jumped when the door shut and a disembodied voice boomed from...well, nowhere.

A TEST?!?!!

What kind of professor didn't show up to teach a class, then give a test first thing? Didn't he know she didn't know anything? Didn't he know she didn't even know all of this existed until a few weeks ago? Didn't he know????

Lucy swallowed a lump in her throat and crept over to a corner cabinet while still in view of the chalkboard. After reading the entirety, it only made her more upset. He did know she knew nothing, but was perfectly set on giving them a test anyway? And what even was the point if she could just ask an older student for help?

She resolved not to. She even blocked out the other students. Time to wave her wand and make magic! It shouldn't be too hard, right? All magic was was waving the wand and saying a funny word and the things just happened!

She took her wand out of her backpack, pointed it at the cabinet, and waved it in a back-and-forth motion. "Aloe...Aloe... she glanced back at the chalkboard, "homoruh. Aloe-homoruh. Al-oh-home-era." She tried the cabinet. Still locked.

Plus a grandmother who would skin him if he did not have good grades to owl to her.

Alright..so open cabinets and take out a box. "I hope you know I'm just doing one." There was no point in him opening two and doing two of everything. "We'll just have to work together..it will make it faster." Taking a deep breath, Bentley walked up to the cabinet and pointed his wand. "Alohomora!" .....They did hear a click right? He thought he did but it could also be someone else's.

"Go on Blaise..you check." And it would be smart to bring the box too if the door was indeed open. He couldn't do all the work could he? Nope.

Now she had done with opening the cabinet and pulling out the cabinet, the young lioness then read the next instruction. Okay, she needed to lock the cabinet again. With the spell of course. Logically, locking is easier than unlocking, right? Right? Because usually people were more struggling with the unlocking rather than locking it.

Again, she pointed her wand and cast the locking charm. "Colloportus!" She checked if the cabinet was already locked or not. Wait, it's not locked yet. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......... What had she done wrong? Pout. Waaaaiiiiiit, she couldn't pout just because she couldn't do it on the first try. Maybe she could lock the cabinet perfectly for now. Yes, second try. "Colloportus!"

Now, had the cabinet locked perfectly?

........a test.

Awesome.

Maggie frowned to herself and briefly considered leaving again. Like, the professor wasn't even HERE. Like, what even? On the other hand this WAS one of her best subjects and she didn't exactly want to leave a bad first impression with the professor. And she hadn't even been part of the food fight or anything so she should already get Brownie points for that.

Finding a cabinet near Zeke's, Maggie then drew her wand and pointed it at the cabinet door. "Alohomora!" There. Now. All she had to do was take that box out and continue to ignore the cries for help from the first years, but like she wasn't a Prefect. And nobody had directly approached her so you know.

SLAM! Hadley Denaker slid, or rather careened to a sudden and quite loud stop against the classrooms open door. Her hair was a mess and still fairly wet. Smudges of tomato sauce were still visible behind her ears or against her jawline, small patches missed in her rush to get cleaned up after the food fight in the library with Peeves that morning.

She picked herself up off the floor, rubbed her side and then sheepishly made her way to the cabinet next to Rachel, with a sorry or two muttered for good measure. Hey, at least she was late.

Haddie grinned at her best friend and leaned into whisper to her. "I had to wash the mashed potatoes and tomato sauce out of my hair," she told Rachel. Then, as way of explanation, "from cleaning the library this morning." That was it. She did it on purpose, knowing it created more questions than it answered and thus would drive Rachel nuts. Plus the lesson was beginning. As Professor Primeaux's voice explained his absence, Haddie bit her lip and became very fascinated with the craftmanship of her cabinet.

"Alohomora. Alohomora." Hadley practiced saying the word a couple of times before attempting the spell. She watched the other students for a moment and made her first attempt. Judging by how things went this morning, she fully expected it take several tries or more to get the spell to work. Click. The cabinet clicked on her try. She looked over at Rachel, pleased, even more so as her bestie still hadn't gotten it and was calling for an older student to help.

Haddie opened the cabinet and took out the box. "Colloportus." Nothing. She tried again. "Colloportus." Click. For good measure, she tugged on the cabinet door. It didn't budge. Now Haddie was impressed with herself. Look at her. She was a natural.

Click.

Haddie frowned, confused. She gave the door another tug out of curiosity. It opened. What the heck? She aimed her wand again. "Colloportus." Click. After confirming the cabinet was, again, locked, Haddie waited and watched it for a full minute. Nothing happened.

Good. She shrugged at Rachel and picked up her box, studying it. "Well, I assume once enough people retrieve their box, new instructions will appear on the board? Or maybe the instructions are in the box and we have to open it?" She aimed her wand at it, deciding to test the theory. Click. It wasn't the box. She hadn't even cast anything on it yet. Tentatively she tried the cabinet. It opened, unlocked once more. "Serious? Colloportus!" Click. Locked. And it better stay that way this time. Click. "Oh come on!"

Normally he would protest based on the instruction of the Professor but right now he was putting in minimal work and therefore had no say. If Bentley wanted to open only one cabinet then it was all the same for him.

"Whatever you say."

Blaise reached down into the cabinet and pulled the box out. Was this it? The whole thing? Nothing fancy about the box besides it being locked? "Don't forget to close the cabinet--Colloportus I think it is." The young Gryffindor turned the box over in his hand a few times while he waited for his cousin to do just that before handing him the box to open as well. "Yours too."

Such a good thing his cousin actually knew what he was doing.

Then he squeaked just a bit in surprise when he heard his Uncle's voice. He turned with a slight jump. "I WASN'T BEING RUDE I SWE..." Huh!? What? Torrance turned once more and saw that instructions had suddenly appeared on the blackboard. Open a Glass Cabinet with a spell. Alohomora... then they had to lock it again.

First Spell ever, unlocking stuff, followed by his second spell...locking stuff. He could live with that, though he'd really just rather learn how to create a Storm like his head of House Flamsteed.

Let's see if he can try it out on his own first. He peered over at the Evil Girl Kate who was already at it and getting right the first time. Hell no was he going to be shown up by her. He stepped in front of a Glass cabinet and unholstered his wand from his Wrist-Holster (Wildcard Cowboy Style).

Pointing his wand at the Cabinet he attempted to imitate what he heard his now apparently Rival and Enemy speak. How was she doing it all? "AlLOHhaMORah!" He pointed his wand, but nothing! "No!" he exclaimed. He frowned at his wand. Had he missed something!? What did he forget. He grumbled to himself things that Uncle Julien would apprehend him for and probably take 5 points off for each word he spoke. "Ineedhelp" Tory mumbled.

Katherine... ignored him. Yes. She was never lost. Ever. But... she rolled her eyes when the boy yelled like that. If this was his "not being rude"... then she would like to see his rude side [not]. But again, she kept her thoughts to herself. He didn't deserve to hear them.

...

When she peeked over, she saw that he was failing. She turned to other side and smiled to herself. Of course he was failing, his type could NEVER succeed at life and all they knew was pranks and bad language. Ugh, she was SO glad the professor would see the difference between them. And his plea of help? IGNORED. Of course the professor might be watching them from somewhere, but it wasn't like the boy directly asked her for help. Nah, she could ignore him without any consequences.

And of course she ceremoniously retrieved the box - the one only successful students could hold.

Now... how to lock the cabinet back?

Charms class. Janelle was ready or thought she was ready for the first Charms class of the year with their new Professor. She walked into the classroom full of enthusiasm and stopped short. There was no Professor to be seen, which was not that unusual. However, the lack of desks and the presence of many glass cabinets piqued her interest. What would they be doing today?

Janelle found a spot and leaned against the wall, waiting for the arrival of the Professor. The Professor never arrived., but his voice did. Apparently they were being tested and admonished for the feast shenanigans. Janelle read the instructions on the board that explained what the class would need to do. Multiple spells, with no direction and about a million first years in the room who didn't know anything? This was going to be fun. With a sigh, Janelle got straight to work.

Walking over to an unclaimed cabinet, Janelle took out her wand. She took a moment to concentrate on the task at hand, although she was pretty confindent about this spell. Directing her wand at the cabinet and giving it an appropriate swish, she said, "Alohomora" Reaching for the cabinet door, Janelle was happy to see that it opened easily.

SPOILER!!: Lucy

About to remove her box from the cabinet, Janelle noticed a nearby first year having trouble with the spell. She walked over to the girl, watching as she attempted the spell. "Hi, I'm Janelle. Do you need some help?" Hoping that the girl wouldn't be offended, Janelle continued. It always helps me to concentrate on what I'm trying to do first. Picture the lock opening in your mind and keep focusing on that. Then you have to say the incantation with confidence........like you mean it and you expect it to work. "Al-loh-ho-mor-uh" "Like that. Try it. Believe you can do it and you will."

Charms had always been a lesson that Tia didn't have to struggle too hard with. After three years of charms lessons, or well Hogwarts lessons in general, Tia had learned to be surprised when entering a classroom. So hearing a recording of the professor's introduction when she entered was not really a surprise to herself as it might have been had she been a new student.

Unlock the cabinet in front of her; that was easy-peasy. "Alohomora," she cast, flicking her wand without much thought. This was probably one of the most basic spells that even someone with minimal magic knowledge should be able to cast. Probably why the professor issued the task to them on their first lesson. A box within a cabinet. Tia only hoped it wouldn't be filled with furry creatures as the chest was at the Eagle welcome party.

Not that she couldn't handle it, but it was more than just Ravenclaws in this lesson she had to look out for.

The seventh year looked around to see if anyone needed assistance but it seemed some of her other fellow older students were already helping the younger ones.

So moving on, she figured she may as well seal up the cabinet, "Colloportus!" That part done. Now to open up the box, but she would wait for her peers to catch up first. And offer assistance if they needed it. "Anyone need help?" She looked around, expectantly.

Now copying Marsha’s movement she swished her wand in an S shape and spoke out the spell in a quiet voice “Alohamora”…wait was that a click! She wondered as she watched the door swing open.

“I did it!” She grinned to herself more than to anyone else…she was smug. Very smug.

Marsha may be little, but she wasn’t stupid. She had seen Melon coming over to join her and she had given her a small reassuring smile that she was here with her. Well, that was obvious - but she meant that she would help her do this. Every step if she needed to, because they were family. Mostly…. and that was what family did for each other.

Watching the brunette and fellow lion cast the S as needed, the red-head held her breath. Come on, come on. She thought, patiently wait to se- YES! Jumping slightly on the spot she cheered on Mel with a huge grin. ”Congratulations Melon!” She said, extactic. WASN’T SHE AMAZING?

Looking to the other side of her, just to make sure that everyone was okay and she wasn’t ignoring anyone who looked like they were going to cry - she couldn’t handle tears - Marsha smiled at the girl who looked desperately confused.

”Hi. I’m Marsha, and this is my cousin Melbourne.” Well. It was easier than her Uncle’s ward… heehehe Ward. Cough. Right, charms. ”It’s pronounced al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah.” The Welsh third year said it slowly to see if the that helped Lucy. ”What I usually do is practise the pronounciation of a spell or charm before I even consider putting it together with your wand work. Usually, that means less chances of back firing magic.”

She smiled encouragingly at the first year and motioned for her to try saying it with each syllable. ”Then, once you have it like that - you put it together to say it as you would when you cast. Alohamora.” She nodded her head and waited for the girl to repeat it back to her. ”When I started school, one of the best things I got told,” Thank you Cutty. ”Was to imagine what you want to happen. Your wand is channelling what you want to do, so when you point your wand at the cabinet, you need to draw an S shape in the air, say the charm and imagine the cabinet opening for you.”

It was a lot to take in, but hopefully that helped? She cast a glance at Melon and smiled. If she wanted to close her cabinet she could - but she was going to wait so that she could show the Ravenclaw.

Devastated at his first attempt for the unlocking spell. Tory stood in front of his glass cabinet staring at it menacingly. Many others were doing great work and helping everyone else who seemed to need it. Course he was too quiet when he mumbled for help.

Then a Taller girl came by and did everything with ease. He almost felt mocked, but then he heard her ask if anyone needed Help. "I want Help." yup. He would forgive the fact that she wore the Head Girl Badge. He still wasn't sure how to take them. Bentley and Blaire said they were mean, and Torrance didn't want to deal with Mean Leaders, but she offered her services and that something he desperately needed.

He took a quick a quick glance over at Kate who was now locking her Cabinet back up...SHOW OFF!

Sam squinted at the board, trying to make out the instructions. Reading had never been her strong point, given her lack of access to books. All in all, it just made her more frustrated that the professor wasn't here bothering to actually teach them. It wasn't fair to test them when they hadn't learnt anything!

Maybe she just wouldn't bother to turn up to the next lesson, if she was just going to have to struggle through on her own. Hmph.

She might not be any good at reading, but she could people watch...so that's what she proceeded to do, quickly realising she needed a boxy thing and was meant to be getting into it with her wand. Couldn't she just use her tools? She'd been picking locks since she'd been a kid. She even had them up in her dorm. Sigh.

Sam picked up her wand, and held it gingerly as she leant against a free cabinet. It was so precious; what if she broke it? She needed help, so turned to the nearest older person she recognised.

"'cuse me. 'ead girl?" she asked, tugging on the older girl's sleeve gently. "I don' no wat tae do wiff dis," she nodded at her wand in her hand nervously. "'n th' a-lo-more-ah fing."

"Please," she added politely, "But yes, of course. I'm Tia, by the way." So now would be a good time for the small one to state his name. So she didn't have to refer to him by "Lion kid" or "First year" or "Child"

"So anyway, the unlocking charm is really quite simple. It makes it easier if you sound out the word slowly before attempting the casting of it. And then just let it roll off the tongue. She would find out soon enough.

"Tia," she added her name by introduction, smiling at the younger girl as she stated that she didn't know what to do with her wand and the alohomora thing. She was no doubt a muggleborn or possibly a halfblood witch, but she was also a Ravenclaw, which meant she was smart.

"So you use this, your wand to channel your magic. It's just a medium for you to be able to cast magic spells."
She smiled patiently, as she explained the wand. "The alohomora is an incantation used to perform certain actions, in this particular scenario, it's used to unlock the cabinet. So you just flick your wand at the cabinet, while saying the incantation of Al-oh-o-mo-ra, which you could practice without the wand first to get the hang of the pronunciation and then wait . You'll hear the cabinet click unlock if it works."

He eyed her annoyingly. Wasn't it enough that he had to ask for help? Wasn't all he was required of? But Ugh fine, Uncle Julien would probably prefer nice manners...if he was spying on them from afar. "please" he mumbled. "Thank you. I'm Tory" who the hell are you? No fair he couldn't ask her name first! He always asks first! He sat down on the floor still facing the glass cabinet. He listened to Tia as intently as his short attention span would allow him. "Sound it out. Al-oh-o-mo-ra...Al-oh-o-mo-ra...Alohomora." He did eventually look up at her to watch her flick her wand to. "Okay. Think I got it."

Torrance stood up and faced his Glass Cabinet down once more. He flicked his wand and spoke "Alohomora." It clicked and and he dove into the cabinet grabbing his box out and holding it to the air

DA-NA-NA-NAAAAAAA!

He set it down and looked at Tia once more. "Guess I gotta do the same basic stuff for locking it too then, huh?" He nodded at her. "Thanks Tia. I can take it from here." He sounded out the locking charm in his head Col-lo-por-tus....col-lo-por-tus.

Torrance flicked his wand at the Cabinet and spoke "Colloportus." He heard it click and dove at the cabinet again. This time it wouldn't open. SWEET! Look out Kate your Rival ain't to far behind you now!

Since Austin was still new at this whole 'making friends' thing, he decided to go at it alone. That didn't mean he wasn't open to first years joining him. It just meant he wasn't going to seek anyone out. It was only the first class. The teen had all year to make friends.

Stepping in front of an empty cabinet, he pulled out the wand from his leg holster. So convenient. He thought. Before casting the spell, he thought it was best if he inspected the cabinet first. Not that he didn't trust the professor. But it was more so he knew there weren't any explosives... or anything. He walked around it once, knocking on the back to make sure there wasn't a secret door. When he had come back to the front, he tried the door on it, to make sure it was locked. Which it was. Look, there was no harm in checking, right? When he was satisfied that the cabinet was just a cabinet, he pointed his wand at the lock, and said clearly, "Alohomora."

"Sam," she replied with a small smile, already starting to feel a bit better about the whole lack of a professor situation. At least this way she got to meet someone new. The Head Girl from her own house, no less.

She nodded at Tia's explanation. It wasn't that she didn't know what a wand was, or even what it could do - she'd seen plenty of people do magic - she was just little nervous about doing it herself, especially without being able to understand the instructions on the board properly. Had the Hat just set her up for a fall, putting her in Ravenclaw?

"Al-oh-oh-mo-wahh," she repeated, trying to mimic Tia's voice as best she could through her own accent. "Al-oh-oh-mo-rahh. Al-oh-o-mo-rah." The word felt awkward on her tongue. 'Open!' would be much simpler.

"Al-oh-o-mo-ra."

Was that it? She looked at Tia for some kind of sign if she was getting closer. "Could ya show me th'and flick?" Like, was it from the wrist or the arm? How big should it be? How tight should she hold her want to ensure she didn't drop it mid-flick?

However, she didn't rush to doing the spell; instead she inspected the cabinet first and tried to figure out how the lock worked. Then, once she thought she had an imagine of it, she closed her eyes and literally imagined the lock going off with a click as she said the spell. She then tried to copy the wand movement - the reverse S or whatever. And at last came the correct way of pronunciation: Alohomora. Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah. Alohomora. Al-loh-hamor-no, Al-loh-ha-mor-ah." Alohomora... right.

She took a deeeeeeeep breath, touched the cabinet with her left hand as the right hand held the wand. She visualised the lock again... "Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah!"

...

Did it... click? Katherine frowned to herself. She wasn't sure, so she held onto the holder and pulled it... with more force, and TA-DAA, THERE WAS THE BOX! So what if she hadn't unlocked the lock FULLY - it still opened on her first try with a little force, didn't it? IT DID. So, she BEAMED to herself and peeked at the boy (did he see THAT?!?! She had opened it on her F I R S T E V E R try!).

This was like, easy.

Oh, a baby bird peeped at her. When they weren't nipping at your heels, trying to be more dominant than their years *coughRachelcough*, firsties actually could be kind of cute. Could she watch? "Hello. Of course you can, all of my spellwork I'll perfom nice and slow. Okay?" She watched the girl when she eventually did the spell herself and smiled. "Excellent." Encouraging little baby firsties came natural, whether or not they were of her own house. Maybe Henric's puffness had simply rubbed off on her.

His protective prefect instinct kicked in,"HEY WHAT'S GOING ON-?!" he started to yell but stopped. EH?..Wait. He recognised that voice! Professor Primeaux?! He listened carefully until the end. Ohh...so this was like a test? Thank goodness. Henric was about to break open that door, y'know. He calmed himself down a little before proceeding to one of the many glass cabinet available in this room. Oh, and there was his llia already starting with the charm spells! She was so quick to know what spell to use too! Heheh...as expected of his smart and beautiful girlfriend. "What's inside, llia?" He asked her as soon as he reached her side. Hmm...maybe he should do the same too.

He pointed with his wand and muttered the spell clearly. "Alohomora." A click was heard. He opened it and reached in to grab whatever was inside. Huh? Another box?

Ilia peeked back and watched Henric with a small smile. Seriously after being in this school longer than her he was still going to be jumpy when there wasn't a visible professor? You should know better honey. As for his defensive instinct....well....she couldn't exactly blame him. After her spidernapping the first year she came to this castle, she tended toward suspicion herself. Thankfully, all was well though. She smiled brightly at his question and took a moment to produce the small box within the previously locked cabinet. "A box." She said rather simply and showed him, waiting as he opened the cabinet beside her. "They are almost kind of cute little boxes aren't they?" She asked him with a smile, while thinking he was far cuter. No way she was going to mention that in the middle of class though. Nope.

SPOILER!!: Rachel xD

Her tone was significantly less warmer and for the umpteenth time she wonder why Henric was dating this girl.

But Ilia was willing to help and Rachel would accept it since she cared more about her work. "You mean give it a command? I think I can manage that.'' She could manage that. "Does saying incantations in a commanding tone always help?" She would try this out for herself right now. She replayed Ilia's demonstration in her head and tried again.

"Alohomora.'' She used her confidence and tried to feel the charm as best as she could. There was a click indicating the lock had given away. "I did it!'' Rachel was ecstatic and even wanted to hug Ilia but refrained. The mean girl did not deserve that but she did deserve a... "Thank you, Ilia. I shall remember your tip when doing all spell work.''

She removed the box from the cabinet. “I wonder how the numbers will help us,’’ the eleven year old pondered out aloud. She examined the box closely for a little while then looked around at her peers. Lots of them, like her, had needed help. She shook the box slightly. “Do you have any idea how the numbers tie in?’’ Her question was directed to Ilia.

Yes, Rachel was always inquisitive.

Now she attempted to tackle cabinet again. ''I shall try locking this now. This spell, like the previous one, is also new to me though I did come across it in my reading. Colloportus.'' No, it was still opened. "Colloportus.'' The first year bit her lower lip. Charms could be so difficult. She focused in on Ilia's tip again. ''Colloportus.'' The cabinet re-locked itself.

The dark haired girl smiled in triumph, clutching the box close to her.

Ilia grinned almost amused at the younger eagles accusation. "Just you baby bird. Its kinda cute." She came off like she wanted to think she was high and mighty yet, here she was failing her first go. The girls coldness towards her didn't put her off in the least. On the contrary, she just felt that everything was on even footing.

She listened calmly and nodded at the child's question. "I find that it does for me. Your intent is as important as your form and words. Your magic is a part of you, half hearted asking changes nothing, but if you put your heart into something....your intentions and your will, you can make things truly happen." Whoa....did she actually....just open up to this child. Odd, she supposed she didn't have as hard of feelings for the girl as she thought. Her fangs just sometimes popped out......especially towards anything between her and Henric. Was that actually....an honest thank you? "You are welcome....Rachel." She resisted the desire to call her baby bird again.

"Colloportus." She slowly , smoothly, and clearly used her words and her form so in case the baby birds that were watching her wanted to see. She locked the big cabinet and then concentrated on the smaller one. "Alohomora." She performed the charm with her same smooth and slow words and motions. The little box popped open to reveal numbers. There we are.

Baby bird chirped to her again? This was interesting. She actually genuinely gave the girl a small smile. "If I understand it correctly, we should be able to use the number code to access the other room." She nodded in the direction of it. "I am going to presume that is where we find our professor, after all....with last nights spectacle especially I highly doubt a professor would leave children alone. Even with the prefects and head students." After all, they couldn't stop the food fight and the children where ickle little things for sure. Besides, teens and pre-teens locked in a room alone together with magic.....no one in their right minds would leave them all unattended....even if this was Hogwarts, home of the crazies.

Azura walked into the charms classroom and almost instantly panicked! Where was the teacher! Why was there no teacher??

Her purple eyes instantly flicked to the board and found the directions there!
Not to mention she heard the charmed voice above her! A test? Well she could do that!

She wanted to learn! She had to be good a charms if she was going to be a healer!

She moved to the cabinet, took a deep breath and pulled out her wand! Surely is she could use Episky she could use this??

She faced the cabinet and with a determined voice the first year called "Alohomora!"

For a few panicked seconds she thought it hadn't worked! But she then heard a lock click and smiled to herself as she opened the cabinet and pulled out the box!

She smiled as she turned to see Austin next to her! "Hey Austin!

Walking into her first lesson with a new Charms Professor, Esme hadn't been sure WHAT to expect, but it surely hadn't been THIS.

Confused, she looked around the classroom. What was with the cabinets? Where were their desks? Where was the Professor? She had so many questions but knew that no one could answer because the Prefects were probably just as confused as she was. Maybe the teacher would arrive in a moment...

... Or not

Jumping Gargoyles!

That voice had SCARED her!!

She hadn't expected a recording, so it took a moment for Esme to get her bearings. When she got a hold of herself, she listened carefully to what he had to say. So it was the be a challenge then. Well, she could do that and show him just how willing she was to work hard. If this had been History of Magic she probably wouldn't have seen the point since that subject didn't interest her, but Charms... This might actually be her second favourite class after Divination. The way things were going with that Hag, her love of Divination might diminish.

That thought made her so sad.

Sighing, she reached for her wand as she read the instructions on the board. Right. She was a Third Year, so locking and unlocking things was something she could do effortlessly by now. Whatever was in the next room though - THAT might be beyond her skill level. It was too early to see but she would try her best without help. The only person she was willing to work with right now was her sister but she wanted to see how far she could get by herself.

With her wand at the ready, Esme approached one of the cabinets. "Alohomora!" she said without giving it much thought. This spell was effortless by now since she had learned it in First Year. Smiling, she heard a click that told her that she had done good.

After unlocking the cabinet, he heard his name in a familiar voice. Turning around he saw that it was non other than Azura! Someone he could actually call a friend. "Hey there!" Austin pulled the chest out, and tried to lock the door with a clear "Colloportus". He pulled on the door to make sure it was indeed locked, and walked over to Azura.

"I see you've gotten the unlocking charm down, good job! The next one, though, is a bit trickier. It's pronounced cull-low-pore-tus." He sounded out the spell, making sure to emphasis everything. Hopefully he wasn't offending her. Many first years didn't know the locking charm, and it was a tricky one to get the hang of. "You want to make sure to put the emphasis on the 'pore', and not the 'cull'." He himself had made this mistake quite a few times in his past.
