Hecate sat on the corner of her desk, listening to a tune in her her head no one else could hear. She swayed back and forth lightly, until her clock struck the hour her class would begin. Her face turned serious again, and she went behind her desk, waving her want to unlock the door.
Now that the door to the classroom was unlocked... kids just needed to begin filing in.
ooc: This class will stay open until October18th. Also thanks to Nixy! and AuroraQuinn for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me, and to Anna Banana for making it into a pretty graphic!

It really felt like it was taking forever for the water to just boil. Sitting there on her stool she tapped her foot as she watched the others working on their potions. Looking into her cauldron she saw one bubble. Sighing she waited and watched others more til the water finally started boiling. Taking the bottle of armadillo bile she added it, and set it aside before reaching for the bottle of pepsi.

An emergency? Idly wondering what it could have been, Alice made note of the professor's change in facial expressions and watched her gather up her things. She didn't particularly mind Lafay leaving; it meant she got to brew her own potion and work at her own pace instead of going at the slow speed they had as a class. And working alone was always a nice change.
Grabbing her Potions book, the sixth year began flipping through it, scanning the text for something she'd like to make, momentarily ceasing her searching to give West's hand a squeeze back. What was he brewing? Alice leaned over to peek at the page he had open. Dreamer's Elixer?
Well. She wanted something usable for her. Something difficult. Something like..

Cat got a grin as Mo peered over her shoulder to fully read her potion title. It was what he'd thought, after all. She was going to be colorful at the end of class, and Mo wouldn't have anything immediately to show for himself. He didn't mind, though... he preferred it that way if he got something useful out of it. "I'll carry whatever you can't," Mo decided as he followed her towards the Potions cabinet.
SPOILER!!: From the book
Devomotion Potion
Ingredients:
Water
2 cups elf-made wine vinegar
3 leaves from a Dransul plant
3 billywig stingers
Instructions:
Fill cauldron with water
Heat over a low flame
Add elf-made wine vinegar
Crush one Dransul leaf in mortar until acid forms
Add three drops Dransul acid to cauldron with a dropper
Stir potion 3 times counter-clockwise
Add billywig stingers while potion is still moving (Potion should appear a dark burgundy in color)
Point wand at potion, move in a spiraling motion upwards while casting "Agitatum"
Using "Glacius", quickly douse flame and cool cauldron down, potion will continue to move.
Let simmer a month.
Colour will have darkened to black, consistency will be thicker
Ladle the potion in a developing tray
With gloves on, pass the negative in the potion
One minute later, take it out and put it in a second tray, covering it with water
Allow to dry
Funny that his potion actually had very few supplies. Mo easily managed his phials as he headed back to his seat, making sure that Cat didn't drop anything along the way. Once back at his seat, he waited until girlfriend was settled before turning his attention on his own cauldron. So gloves first. And then cleaning.
"Scourgify," Mo cleaned out his cauldron carefully before setting it back on the work station. He hated these general 'fill with water' type potions, especially since he knew the amount of water was important. Too much would dilute his potion and too little would make it super concentrated. Still, 'fill' was fairly indicative, so Mo stuck his wand in the cauldron, said "Aguamenti", and filled it nearly to the brim. That was full.

Potion decided on, Alice immediately paraded into the storage room with her textbook and began gathering ingredients. A gallon of flobberworm mucus? She wasn't quite exactly sure why anything would require that much, but she fetched that along with the next couple of materials in one go. After a couple trips, she was able to move all of them to her lab table and ready to get to brewing.
It was unusual that the base of her work wasn't water, but she supposed that was because it was an unction rather than a potion. Still, even in the absence of the liquid, cauldron cleaning was necessary, so the sixth year started off with a simple scouring charm. She checked the book again to make sure she was on track before casting an "Incendio."
And then.. a gallon of flobberworm mucus. Yep. She dumped the whole thing in. Wheee fun.
What was next? Alice measured out a teaspoon of shredded beeswax and dropped it into her cauldron, waiting for it to melt. Reassuring herself that the wax was completely melted, she grabbed the nearest wooden spoon. It was probably a good idea to refer to the text again before stirring, so she peeked once more before turning the stirrer twice in a counterclockwise motion.
This unction had a lot of steps. Why had she chosen it again?

With the water for his potion under control, Theo picked up his potions book and brought it with him to the potions storeroom. It didn't take him long to find Armadillo bile, so he grabbed a vial of that. What next? Scarab beetles. Ew... sounded disgusting.
Ew... ew... ew... he found them.
Actual beetles, ew. Theo made sure they were completely trapped in their box, then left it on the edge of the shelf so that he could pick that one up last, and keep his full attention on it. The last ingredient he needed was ginger root.
Ginger root, ginger root, ginger root... aha, ginger root. Theo closed his potions book after tucking down a corner of the page he needed, then grabbed hold of his ingredients. It wasn't much to carry really. The ginger root and Armadillo bile was under his arms, and the beetles were being FIRMLY held in his hands.
The Slytherin perched his stuff on his desk and opened up his textbook again.

Say what? The professor was leaving and they were left with instructions to just do whatever. Didn't Lafay know that there were puffers in here? She knew that she would do just fine, but she was worried about getting blown up by others that were quite as intelligent. Coughpufferscough. Ahem. She flipped through her textbook and tried to find something easy to make. She didn't want to spend all of her time on a potion. Maybe she could leave early or something.
Flip, FLIP, flip.
She vaguely wondered what others were going to make. Oh well, as long as she got a good mark that was all that truly mattered. She flipped through what seemed like a million different potions. She came across a sleeping potion and decided that it was the way to go. It didn’t seem like it would be that complicated and she was sure that she could breeze right through it.
SPOILER!!: Potion
Basic Sleeping Draft
Use/Effect:
The basic sleeping draft is to be used before bedtime in order to aid in sleeping. However, it should not be used longer than a week or two or one may start falling asleep at odd times of the day.
Ingredients:
water (500mL)
lavender (a pinch; crushed)
chamomile (a handful; crushed)
for nightmares: purslane (a pinch)
for more powerful brew: ginger (a pinch)
Instructions:
Bring water to a slow boil.
Add lavender and stir 21 times, counter-clockwise.
Add chamomile and let simmer for 20 minutes (potion should be pale, clear, purple with a tint of green, though the green may not always be observable)
For nightmares: add a pinch of purslane and stir 5 times, counter-clockwise
For a more powerful brew: add a pinch of ginger and stir 5 times, counter-clockwise
Notes:
Potion can be stored for up to a month, though it is advisable to brew a fresh batch weekly.
She gathered up all the needed supplies and got herself ready to make a potion.

"Incendio." Theo aimed for under the cauldron, but nothing happened so it tried it again. It worked the second time. He let the water heat up a bit, then turned it down when it started to simmer. At least, he thought he had done that anyway.
Time to ground those scarab beetles. The gross part.
He tipped one out of the container and into a mortar, and like lightning, he crushed that thing to mush. Okay, breathe, that wasn't too difficult. Theo checked the page again and sighed in relief when it said he only needed 2 of these beetles. Theo repeated the same technique for the next beetle, until he had 2 coarsely ground scarab beetles. (Or so he hoped he did)
After adding the beetles to his cauldron, Theo stirred the potion very slowly in a clockwise motion. It took him a moment to figure out which way clockwise was, but he managed to get it before making a mistake.
5 times stirred. WOOT.
SPOILER!!: page
Wit-Sharpening Potion
Use/Effect:
The Wit-Sharpening Potion is used to aid in concentration. It is especially useful if taken before an important exam.
Ingredients:
water (500mL)
scarab beetles (coarsely ground; 2)
ginger root (cut; 5g)
armadillo bile (9 drops)
Instructions: Bring water to a delicate simmer Add scarab beetles and stir 5 times, clockwise
Allow to simmer for 5 minutes
Add ginger without stirring and simmer for 20 minutes
Allow solution to cool, stirring 7 times every 3 minutes, alternating clockwise and counter-clockwise stirrings
When heat can no longer be felt when a hand is placed above the potion, add armadillo bile
Allow potion to sit for 8 minutes (potion will smell foul)
Theo crossed off each step with a pencil once he had done it.

Vesper was a little slow on getting started, but the reality of it was that Professor Lafay was a severe looking woman....And the Claw was sorta terrified of messing up in front of her. It was just one of those things where she knew could do it if her nerves would cooperate. So, relief may have been present when the Professor left the room.
If she messed up, it wouldn't be that bad or embarrassing.
When selecting a potion, Ves tried to decide on one that would be fun and beneficial for her.....and it was with that specification in mind that she chose the Dreamer's Elixir. The homework always dealt in things from the lessons, right? Maybe she'd get to sample it and then write a story...or do something with the dreams. It was rare that she remembered them upon waking up...So, the potion could be a revelation...or something. It'd be interesting, anyway. Very, very interesting.
Copying the potion into her notebook, she went ahead and doodled a bit. Without doodles, her notes would look lifeless and boring...and Vesper just couldn't have that. She didn't like boring...
SPOILER!!: Notebook!
Potions Lesson One
Vesper Bayliss
Ravenclaw Fifth Year
THE DREAMER'S ELIXIR
Ingredients
• water
• 1 cup of valerian root
• half a cup of Kava Kava
• 1 deadly nightshade berry
• 8 leaves of devil's weed
• 1 cup of Poison Hemlock seeds
• 1 poppy flower → red poppies are the most potent
• 10 leaves of Calea Zacatechichi
Procedure
• clean cauldron (Scourgify!)
• fill completely with water (Aguamenti!)
• turn on the burner and bring water to a boil.
• once the water boils, add the valerian and kava kava (mixes easier if in liquid form)
• clean 18 carat gold needle for next step (Scourgify!)
• pierce the nightshade berry, making sure to get a single drop of juice on the tip of the needle
• set the berry on fire, using the magical burner under cauldron, burning it up entirely along with any remaining juice not on the needle
• let the drop on the needle fall into the potion without touching anything other than the needle
• burn any remaining juice from needle, clean it, and return to supplies
• using silver knife, slice each leaf of devil’s weed carefully along the vein
• place sliced leaves carefully into cauldron/potion
• dip pestle into the liquid, shaking excess off so it’s just moist
• place hemlock seeds into mortar, then crush with moist pestle until mushy (paste-like consistency)
• spoon the hemlock seed paste into cauldron with a wooden spoon
• put on goggles so fumes don't make you sleepy
• place RED poppy flower on top of the liquid in cauldron, letting the heat from the potion wilt it and sink it to the bottom of the cauldron
• if using potion to forget/not experience dreams, stop here
• add Calea Zacatechichi leaves whole to potion, as they will disintegrate
• (potion should be purple-colored) wave wand in a semi-circle motion over potion, thinking about a recent dream, then cast Sopororis
• strain potion before using
After that was all taken care of, she was off to get her ingredients...using her fantastic 'blending in' abilities along the way. Also, the ingredients had interesting names. Fun to say, fun to write, fun to use? Hopefully?
After collecting all the things, Ves moved it back to her station and eyed those around her. What potions had they decided on? Would there be any accidents? Would she need to be ready to duck down at any given moment? Hmm. Maybe...maybe not. They looked more capable than she did.
Either way, to begin, it was cleaning the cauldron first. LUCKILY, this required a CHARM...and Ves knew her way around with charms. So, a scourgify later, she was using another spell (aguamenti!) to fill the cauldron to the brim with water. This was performed with little problems because of the simplicity of the spell. Finite stopped the water stream and then she was turning the burner on; all basic things in setting up for potions brewing.
She could do this. All she had to do was remain focused and not think too much about others in the room. Easier said than done, of course. BUT SHE COULD DOODLE...to keep herself busy. Yep...While waiting for the water to boil, she went ahead and doodled another feather just below where she'd written out the instructions...

She quickly familiarized herself with the steps quickly the focused on the first one. She reached for the moonstone and dropped it into the cauldron releasing it close to the surface in order not to cause a splash and wet her robes. Then she pointed her wand beneath the cauldron and cast, "Incendio," She pulled the textbook closer and checked the next step.
To add crushed belladonna. While the water warmed and started to boil, the fifth-year reached for a mortar, cleaned it then started crushing the belladonna making sure she didn't use too much or too little. Two grams. She crushed the plant with her eyes darting to the cauldron every now and then checking on the water. Once she was done crushing and when the water's been boiling for about five minutes, she leaned towards the cauldron and added the crushed belladonna and five grams of powdered nettles.
She sat back again and left it to boil as instructed glancing at her watch to track the time. She only needed five minutes. Meanwhile she randomly doodles on her notebook, keeping an eye out on the cauldron.
Instructions:
place moonstone in cauldron and add water ✔
boil water for 5 minutes ✔
add belladonna and nettles ✔
boil for 5 minutes ✔
reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes
stir, 20 full strokes clockwise followed by 20 full strokes counter-clockwise
place the clear potion in a goblet
dip the very tip of wand in potion and incant, "Coloro!" while concentrating on the color you want the hair
rinse hair in 200 mL of potion
wait 5 minutes for color change
Notes:
Belladonna (also known as deadly nightshade) is highly poisonous and this potion should not be ingested.
Remaining potion should be used within 24 hours.
Hair color will remain for 24-48 hours.
Moonstone may be reused.

Okay, now i need to actually make this potion The third year old looked troubled, she really wasnt good in making potions, she never had been good at it and she was afraid that she never would learn it, but she tried it, yes, she NEEDED to try it because the professor was the head of her house and eh she was a little scary. The third year didnt wanted to let the professor think badly about her, so she NEEDED to try it, just to prove that she had tried it.
She looked in her book and saw what she first needed to do, and she filled her cauldron while using the Aguamenti spell, but she found it difficult to see how much water she already had added, 500 ML water... Using this spell wasnt difficult now for her, but she remembered how difficult it had been when she had tried to learn it for the first time! When she had filled the cauldron she checked first if she indeed had used 500 ML water and nothing more because she didnt wanted to ruin this potion!
While she waited for the water to boil she checked if she had all the right ingredients and when she saw that she had everything the water was already boiling. Okay she had done it good until now, but the hardest part was not letting the water boil, but what she needed to nest! Biting her lip because she was very nervous to do this right she added the crushed lavender and she stirred 21 times, counter-clockwise, she did exactly what was written in the book so she NEEDED to do it good this time right? She had learned her lesson the previous year while she had made a potion with Daichi, she had REALLY messed up with the potion and it had been HER fault that the potion had exploded So this time she would do it better, or she tried to
Looking in her textbook what she needed to now she tried to concentrate.

Marissa set aside the lavender and began crushing the chamomile while the water continued to warm up. By the time she had finished crushing up the chamomile the water had begun to boil. She set aside the chamomile and picked up the lavender. She grabbed a pinch of lavender and added it to her cauldron and began to stir the cauldron counter-clockwise, "1,2,3,4,5..." she counted quietly aloud. Only 16 more to go she thought to herself and continued counting.
Oh, this was boring, she saw in her textbook that she needed to wait 20 minutes after she had added the chamomile! Pfff, she knew that she didn't had another option than to just wait and do what she needed to, even if she didn't liked it! So she crushed the chamomile after she had added it to her potion she let it simmer for 20 minutes... And while she waited she decided to prepare the other ingredients for her potion, but she was already done in 5 minutes, so she still needed to wait!
Luckily she had ALWAYS something with her in her schoolbag so she grabbed a fashion magazine she could read while she waited. Reading about the lest fashion int he Wizarding World was always interesting! And yes! Just when she was done with reading she saw that it was time to start working again and looked in her book to see what she needed to do again but... oh... the potion was really too green! Had she done something wrong? She quickly re-read the text in her book and saw that she had done nothing wrong, so hoping for the best she just started to work. She REALLY hoped that it was just a small mistake and that the potion would be alright....

Wade merely blinked as he held the jar of crocodile eyes, opening the lid before taking one gently.. so it doesn't get all squished in his grip and all. Setting the crocodile eye on the table, he sliced it as instructed before adding it in. *drop*
Glancing at the cauldron, as he heard it sizzle.. and wow, it didn't smell very nice. Guess that's why they have those nice smelling items listed in ingredients? That was if she wanted a powerful brew. Huh. Ella didn't know what the point of a potion was if it wasn't going to be a considerably powerful one. Especially if it involved getting a good night sleep. Of course she wanted to add some in.
The blonde reached for the ginger and got a pinch of it, wondering all the while about the measurements being used for this particular potion. It wasn't exactly precise, yeah? That was sort of strange to her.
Adding it into the mixture, the blonde cleaned her stirrer yet again and began to stir.

Now came the tricking part of brewing this Potion but Adi was confident he could manage it. All he needed to do was to keep up his level of concentration. He added one drop of the essence of firefly. With the ladle, he began stirring six times counter clockwise. One..two...three...four...five...six... Now for the clockwise stirs. One...two...
The boy repeated these steps after he added the remaining two drops of essence of firefly. "Reduce flame and simmer for twenty minutes before allowing potion to cool,'' he read from the text book. No problem! Adi fidgeted with the burner, reducing the flame.
Adi sat back down at his work station to make some notes and to keep an eye on the potion.
Looking in her textbook she saw that she was almost done with the potion, she only needed to do a few more things and she would be ready!! Pff, she REALLY hoped that the color from her potion would become a little more normal if she was trying to finish it, but... Besides the wrong color it seemed as if nothing was wrong with her potion and that was a good thing, or... she hoped that! And because she didn't knew what she needed to do to get the color from her potion better she just tried to finish it and to do it exactly as was written in her book!
She added a pinch from the purslane, she had already prepared everything so this was easy... She stirred the potion 5 times, counter-clockwise, and yes, she had re-read her textbook to make sure that she was doing it good and she saw already after a few seconds that the color from her potion became better! YES!!! This was really good to see! Relieved that she must have done something good she smiled a little while she looked back in her textbook to see what she needed to do next.
But... she was done, unless she wanted to make it more powerful but that didn't seemed a very good idea, she was already relieved that this potion didn't had exploded and that it's color was normal again, so she didn't wanted to do anything more and to risk the possibility that she would make a mess from her potion! So... She decided to NOT make it more powerful and that the potion was ready!
She cleaned everything she had used and... waited for the professor to return back to the classroom so that she knew what she needed to do next...
And while she waited she made a lebel for her potion:

It took several moments, but once water began boiling, Vesper dropped the shading pencil back down on the counter top and took a gander at her notes. According to the passage, it said that valerian root and Kava Kava would be added next. There wasn't any specific instructions about how they were meant to be added...So, after they were measured out, she casually dropped them in. There. Added.
Also, she needed to figure out a way to mark her progress without messing up her notes. Maybe a checkmark off to the side of each step would do? Ves tried this and nodded to herself in approval. It didn't disrupt her doodles or take away from the overall appearance of the notes. So, they could stay.
Looking to see what steps were next, she finally understood what the golden needle was for. Vesper had always wondered...but had never used it. Trying to carefully pull it out without poking herself, she put her focused face on, finally slipping it out of the holder. Heh, gotcha.
Laying it in the palm of her gloved hand, she pointed her wand at it. After several cleaning spells, she felt sorta confident that it was clean. Clean and ready for whatever came next.
Heh. What did come next....?
Nightshade berry, eh? Vesper eyed it, kinda fascinated by the blackness of it. Made sense that it was deadly or whatever. Evil berry was evil. Cue spooky sounds. OoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooh.
Anyway, just so she understood...She was meant to poke the needle into the berry, get one drop of the juice on its point, and then toss the rest of the berry under the cauldron so that the magical fire could incinerate it and it's evil juice. Right?....And then she was to add the drop and then burn the remaining residue off of the needle...and then clean it...
This...was obviously going to require finesse. Finesse she might not of had...
Eep.

Singing Suspension
Use/Effect:
Causes the drinker to sing uncontrollably
Ingredients:
water (500 mL)
2 acorns (meat only, crushed)
billywig wings (a pinch)
scurvy-grass (1 dram)
Instructions:
boil water
add ingredients & stir constantly for 5 minutes
remove from flame & stir once a minute for 5 minutes
allow to cool before pouring into vials or ingestion
THERE.
Phew.
Done.
Scowling at the now crushed acorns that made his life difficult, Benzi dropped them into the potion and also added the single dram of scurvy-grass and a pinch of billywig wings. Grabbing his stirrer, the eleven year old glanced at the clock and began counting down five minutes.
Potions was rather dull, if he were being perfectly honest. Not too much excitement, just people preparing ingredients and then putting it in water. Sure, it was really easy to get stuff wrong but all you need to do is just follow the instructions. As his five minutes timed up, Benzi carefully turned off his burner and continued stirring for another five minutes, this time watching his potion with interest. It should be done soon. Once it was, he'd pour it into a flask and start his other potion.

Ready to get the show on the road the sixth year cleaned her cauldron. Scourgify." She knew that Lafay would have her head if she performed with a dirty cauldron. "Aguamenti." She watched as the water filled the cauldron. Glancing back at her notes she saw that she needed to slowing bring the water to a boil
She lit the flame and stared at the cauldron almost as if willing it to go faster even though the instructions clearly stated that it had to be done slowly. How long would this take exactly? She wasn't very good at being patient. She hummed to herself and checked the rest of the instructions so she could make sure that there wouldn't be any mistakes happening. She watched as the water finally started to boil.

Okay, so... the next part. Alec read through the instructions, his eyebrows furrowing lightly. He had to break an egg? BREAK?! He was useless at breaking eggs! Ells and Tag always had to break them for him because... he was that bad. Frowning slightly, the seventeen year old looked up and over towards his girlfriend. If he asked her to, would she come over and break the egg for him or...?
... No. He had to do this himself.
Panicking slightly, Alec headed over towards the refrigerated section and pulled out an Ashwinder egg before heading over towards his desk again. Okay. Break. Egg. Break. Not smash. He took a deep breath before tapping the egg against the side of the mortar. ... Nothing. He tapped it again, this time a little harder, until...
... IT CRACKED! GRIN. Had anyone seen that? Was anyone--
... Oh. Shrug. He was still going to tell someone about this, though. Maybe later. Right now... he had a potion to worry about. The inside of the egg was added into the potion before he swiftly moved on to the next part. Four sprigs of Fluxweed? That went into the mortar too. Then, the whole mixture was tipped over and added into his cauldron.
Instructions: 1) Fill cauldron with water 2) Add valerian root and salamander blood, one drop at a time, alternating between the two 3) Add the dock leaves to mortar and crush 4) Break frozen ashwinder egg into mortar 5) Add fluxweed to mortar 6) Add mixture from mortar into cauldron
7) Add Murtlap Essence
8) Stir eight times counter clockwise
9) Add parsley sprigs loosely crushing them into cauldron
10) Add raw honey
11) Slice Basil leaves with a Silver Knife
12) Stab whole papaya with same silver knife stuff basil in papaya's wounds
13) Add Papaya to cauldron
14) Add grated ginger root
15) Add thinly sliced Reishi Mushroom to cauldron
16) Wave wand over Cauldron in fast strinking oblique motion and cast the "Sanum" spell
Just as he started to gain his bearings on the potion that they would be making, yeah, Lafay got all weird. The potions Professor was suddenly all up in arms and leaving. Uh, sure.
And they had to make a potion on their own? Well, that was cool or whatever. He was just going to flip through his book and find the easiest one so he could bail. S'not like she said they had to go for something extremely complicated.
After a few minutes of contemplation, he decided to go for the girding potion. So Ascanius scribbled down the instructions and made work of what he needed to start.
Reaching for his cauldron, he scourgified it clean and then made work of filling it. "Aguamenti." Nice, nice.
As soon as he lit the fire underneath it, he went to work grabbing all of the ingredients that he needed and then prepared to start.

Lavender was the first ingredient that was needed after adding water. She looked at the supplies that she had collected at her desk and realized that she didn't grab any lavender. That was just perfect. She needed to slow down and take her time before she went and made a mess of things.
She walked over to the supply cabinet and grabbed what she needed. Deciding that it was best to consult her textbook once more she read that all she needed was a pinch of lavender and it had to be crushed. Easy enough. She crushed the lavender and added just a pinch to her cauldron. She had to stir the brew 21 times counter clockwise. That seemed like an awful lot and was sure that her arm would ache. Wasn't there an easier way to do this?
1, 2, 3, 4. She kept the count constantly going in her head and she stirred counter clockwise. Yup, she was starting to feel it in her upper arm, but a getting a good grade out of it would be worth it. She scratched off the first two steps and moved on to the third.

Steady hands. Steady hands. Steady hands.
Vesper was chanting to herself, trying to get in the mindset for this step. She did not need a clumsy mishap...and knowing her fabulous luck, she'd slip after poking the berry and stab herself with the juice. She didn't know the effects that would have on her...but the Ravenclaw was almost positive it wouldn't be anything good. In fact, she rechecked her gloves...because she was a touch nervous.
Okay.
Heh, just to be sure...about safety...Vesper went ahead and put her goggles on, too. There. ALL SAFE.
Now to poke the berry...SQUINT!...
Settling it down into the center of her gloved palm, she shakily brought the needle up with the other hand, trying to focus. It made no sense to be nervous, but she was. Taking some breaths, Ves went ahead and did it; moving the needle in...and then right back out. There. Not overthinking it, she tossed the berry into the fire below her cauldron and then added the drop from the tip of the needle into her cauldron of things. Moving with momentum helped the nerves some, mostly because she wasn't thinking about it...and the juice drop hadn't touched anything other than the needle, which had been grasped between her fingertips. So, there was no worries of it being tainted? Was that a good word for it?
How to do this next part...Eyeing the needle tip...and then eyeing the fire beneath her cauldron, she moved her hand down, sticking the juicy end into the burning flame. What other way was there to do this? It was what was most logical. The juice had only gotten on the end part, anyway. After several moments, Vesper removed it and took a gander. Seeing that the juice was, indeed, gone, she did a cleaning spell and tucked it away once more...with the same difficulty as when she'd pulled it out. Really. The needle did NOT want her to succeed. Stupid TROLL needle.

Alright now. The flame was getting a bit too hot now and she was meant to tone it down a bit. With a bit of concentration, she lowered then flame just so until it was perfect. Now it was time to crush things. Yes. That was always a good time. Cat set to that, continuing with the ginger root until she had enough Cat-created powder to measure out into a teaspoon. Powdered ginger root went into the cauldron and she glanced at her book for the next step.
Two tablespoons of sugar. Ohh yummy. Sugar and orange juice, surely this potion wouldn't be an awful to taste, yes? Surely. She carefully poured two tablespoons, and no more, into her cauldron. She would have liked to add more but that was not the RIGHT way and she was meant to do things right. Besides, what would that do? Would it mess something up or just make it sweeter? She supposed now was not the time for her ponderings, though. She picked up the stirry-thingy-thing and stirred -wait- counter clockwise? Cat checked her book again. Ah, yes. Counter clockwise. She stirred once and added a peppermint leaf, then continued on. Stir, peppermint. Stir, peppermint. Stir, peppermint. Stir, peppermint. Then one more stir after her five peppermint leaves were all in the cauldron.
Then she peeked at Mo. Not breaking things or burning things, yes?
SPOILER!!: progress

3.Add powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple... again with the moonstone... but purple... think purple... Tay sighed then looked at the blue potion that was in her cauldron. Taylor made sure that even more moonstone was powdered and started to pour it into her cauldron. She sighed and watched for the color change as she continued to pour the powdered moonstone. The potion slowly began to turn purple and once it turned purple, Taylor beamed a smile. Okay... it is purple... that step is complete! Yay! She felt like twirling in delight but resisted since she needed to focus on this potion since it is suppose to be really hard to do. Tay glanced at the book, looking onto the page for the next step. 4.Allow to simmer until the potion turns pink... simmer? that is going to take a bit... and it is sooooo boring... Taylor pouted but let her potion simmer. In the meantime, she glanced over the list of steps a few more times then looked at the potion. It was still not pink yet. Tay glanced around the room, watching the other students do their own potions
