Hecate sat on the corner of her desk, listening to a tune in her her head no one else could hear. She swayed back and forth lightly, until her clock struck the hour her class would begin. Her face turned serious again, and she went behind her desk, waving her want to unlock the door.
Now that the door to the classroom was unlocked... kids just needed to begin filing in.
ooc: This class will stay open until October18th. Also thanks to Nixy! and AuroraQuinn for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me, and to Anna Banana for making it into a pretty graphic!
Hecate took her chalk and charmed it to write it on the blackboard.... "Alright Class... tell me your favorite potion, what they are used for. The one the majority likes will be the one taught in today's class."
Master Karten? Who the heck is Master Karten? His last name was Stark. Was she okay? Zen? That might explain somethings, yeah? S'weird.
Settling into his seat, he just watched her cautiously and didn't answer her first question. He supposed his favourite potion would have been calming draught. S'not that it did much for heights, but it did enough to actually get him on the pitch.

So they were going to choose the potion they were going to brew? COOL! Cassia liked the sound of that and a smile tugged at her lips taking in the news. That was why Professor Lafay was at the top of her list while Professor French was at the bottom of it. The woman here let them have a say in what they were going to do. Unlike the man who forced beards on all students. Her forehead creased slightly at the horrible memory. She pushed it to the back of her mind then turned her full attention back on the lesson trying to think what was her favorite potion.
She had a couple of choices on her mind but since there were quite a couple mentioned she decided to back up ones that had already been brought up rather than suggesting a new one.
"The Magical fireworks one is cool," She said. Slytherin girls thing, yeah?
She didn't mind the other mentioned ones like the polyjuice potion and the Felix Felicis, those two were quite cool as well. Same for the hair one.

Favorite potion? Penelope had never really thought about it honestly. Sure, there were potions she thought were more useful than others, but she'd never really thought of one as her favorite. They were just...potions.
So she just listened to the others for now. The Polyjuice Potion seemed kinda cool but was also kinda strange to her too. It was weird to think someone could look exactly like her or she could look exactly like someone else by taking it. It could be really bad depending on why you were using it. Felix Felicis sounded pretty good though. What wasn't to like about something that gave you good luck? Also the hair potion sounded good, but she could manage her hair just fine without it, so it wasn't at the top of her list. Might be nice sometimes though? Probably. And fireworks were fun. So that one was fine with her too.

Benzi thought about the question for a minute or two, and listened to everyone else's answers in the meantime. Some seemed sort of pointless and the fact that the two potions his sworn enemy had said were the ones he was currently most interested in annoyed Benzi enough to decide he was NOT going to say them, on principle.

"Yeah, Polyjuice Potion is a great thing," Benzi stated with his hand raised. He wasn't really sure he'd be able to MAKE said potion, but it would still be really cool to get a head's start on learning how to do it.

Favourite potion? What if you didn't have a favourite potion? What if... what if you just... happened to think most potions were okay? Apart from the not so great ones. You know, the ones that were likely to harm someone. Alec didn't really like those. He also didn't like the one that made them smell something funky in a tightly enclosed space. ... Yeah... Alec REALLY didn't like that one.
Before he could do so much as face at the memory, the sound of a familiar voice was heard, making him turn his head. HAIR POTION? The boy full on GRINNED at his best hair ruffling mate when he mentioned the hair potion. Trust Wade to think of hair at a time like this. See, why didn't he think of that? Mental hair ruffles for you, Curly Wade.
But... question. Could he just... name one that hadn't been mentioned? One that he liked, somewhat? "Professor?" he started, raising his hand in the air, "There's the Wiggenweld Potion! It's a healing potion! And... and it helps to awaken people from magically induced sleep." Also... did she say that the most popular one would be taught in the lesson? AWESOME.
... Wait... which potion had been mentioned the most?

What potion was her favorite? This one made her pause, there were just too many. Polyjuice potion was her first instinct, but that might be a little weird. More than a little, actually. It seemed incredibly useful, but not just for briefly turning into someone in the class.
So Raven went with her second choice "Felix Felicis is probably my favorite." Who wouldn't love luck and happiness? "It seems kind of like the magic ice cream of last term, just it wears out and you can accomplish real goals."

The majority were already saying polyjuice. Lex had her favourite, of course she did but at this rate it'd never win, might as well help another cool one win, yeah? Lex raised her hand. "Polyjuice! Yes! Let's do that one!" Of course....who would she wanna look like? Could she be Cassia? The girl had a nice face--oh oh oh! Or she could be Theo and mock him for a while. She could probably out Theo him if she tried and he'd never hit her for it...she didn't think he could bring himself to hitting his own face.
If polyjuice didn't win then fireworks had to on account of explosions and she liked those a lot.

Hopefully they'd be outnumbered.
Hmm... favourite potion. Adrienne had a few, but she should probably only list one, as Lafay tended to be rather literal in her questions and she'd only asked for a singular favourite potion. "How about Erumpent Potion?" Not particularly useful, just kind of awesome. "It explodes when it touches things," she added as its uses. Why would you need that? Adrienne had no idea, but she was sure she could find something to do with a liquid explosion.

It took her a while to choose one potion, even if it was part of a tie of her favourite potions... which was pretty much everything. She liked Potions and it was hard to choose just one. "Magical fireworks. It's not exactly a potion, but I guess the name already speaks for itself. The potion will make magical fireworks and we don't have to ignite a flame in order for it to work." Minerva groaned softly when she heard Lafay say it was going to be polyjuice potion. Not that she really minded making it. It was a more advanced potion and she was up for the challenge, it was the thought of testing it out that freaked her out more. Who would she have to test it with. She glanced at Wade could be worse people. Maybe if they had to she could just become him or something. Shrugging the thought away for now Min pulled out her parchment ready to take notes on their lesson. She would need it for her NEWTs anyway so why not get a jump.
Thinking about the ingredients she raised her hand, "Professor there are leeches, and broomslang skin needed to make the potion." Plus something off the person they were going to become or would they use their own piece to make it so in the end it would become a potion that would turn them into themselves. Well that made no sense, but she figured they might trade, who knew all she knew was thinking about the possibilities gave her a headache.

Hmm.. Polyjuice potion. Wade's brows furrowed for a moment, before shrugging. Could've been worse. Assuming they would end up drinking it themselves later on.. Sure, there were some his closest friends like Indy, Min, Alec, and Ella whose appearance he would be okay with trading... Still though, he liked being himself very much already. But oh well.
Now the ingredients for it? Wade rose his hand to answer, "Knotgrass is also one of the ingredients." He knew the most important one too, but instead he let someone else get the chance to say it.

Wha......? Polyjuice Potion? What were those guys thinking? Though, she felt partly responsible, since she hadn't piped up soon enough to add her vote to the Felix Felicis column. But, as long as she didn't have to turn into anyone she didn't like. Or..... actually that might be fun, see how badly she could mess stuff up for them.
Anyway, ingredients. "You need a piece of hair or something like that from the person you're turning into."

Favorite potion? Alice didn't have a favorite, but there were plenty she wanted to brew one day. "Gregory's Unctuous Unction is an interesting one, professor. It makes the drinker believe that whomever gave them with potion is their best friend."
A million uses for that, for sure.
The Polyjuice potion, then. It definitely wasn't something she wanted to brew in class, but she'd manage it. Alice stole another glance over at West and then lifted her hand into the air again to offer an answer. "Fluxweed's an important ingredient in that potion, professor." Mutability of the body for changing and whatnot. Super important to the purpose of that concoction.
And then her gaze went to West again. Smile, West. If she could have forced his face into happier expressions in the middle of class, she would have.

Maika raised her hand. "Um, powdered bicorn horn is in it, right?" After a pause, she couldn't help asking, "Doesn't it take too long to brew for us to do it in one class session?"

Elusive smile. Take that as you will Lioness.
Because it was free...?
Well! Couldn't argue with that logic. Lex had learned from a recent conversation with the Ravenclaw that asking her questions was a mistake. You'd only end up more confused than you were at the start of the questions and would be no closer to finding out an answer either. There was nothing worse than wanting to know something but being unable to. The fourth year gave her a slight raise of her eyebrow but that was about it for the daring to question. More questions later though, mmkay?
Attention to the Professor once again. Polyjuice won?? WOOT!! Who's hair could she pluck? Did they need permission? What if she didn't feel like asking? Was donating your own hair optional? Suppose she didn't want anyone walking around with her face even as she went around being someone else? Was there a way to ask all these questions without getting hexed??? Probably not so she settled for simply answering the question asked of her.
"Lacewing flies are used in it as well."
No questions Lex, no.

Polyjuice potion? Benjy wrinkled his nose. He didn't know anyone he wanted to turn into, especially since it'd mean having to drink something contain one of their hairs. Like, ew. As if Lafay would let them play around with it anyway...
Sigh.
He raised his hand. "Not just any fluxweed, if I remember rightly," Benjy responded to the Gryffie Captain's answer. "Doesn't it have to be picked at the full moon?" And that was an important difference.

No way.
He couldn't remember most of the ingredients, apart from the most obvious one. Theo raised his hand and said, "A part of the person you're turning into. Like, a hair." Borrowing limbs was a bit extreme, of course.

Tora honestly had no clue about what ingredients were in this particular potion, and so she remained silent. It would be basically cheating if she just repeated one of her classmate's answers and she didn't feel like being dishonest, especially in this class.
She pulled out a nice piece of parchment and rummaged about a bit for some quills and ink. Her wavy blonde hair kept flopping in her eyes and it was getting rather annoying so, before Professor Lafay could scold her on her hair, she quickly tossed it up into a bouncy ponytail. Weird, having her hair up. She shook her head a couple times and continued getting out her things.

Hand up, West added, "Potassium nitrate, Mercury, and Iron." Sure. He looked back at Alice, managed a small smile, and then returned his attention to the professor at the front of the room.

Caleb didn't know any REAL ingredients in the potion, but he DID remember that the polyjuice potion required DNA of the person you wanted to become, so he raised his hand. "Professor, the most ESSENTIAL ingredient is hair, toenails, basically something containing the 'essence' of the person you want to turn into. Without it, you're just drinking a nasty drink that won't do anything," he said. At least, he didn't THINK anything would happen. Or maybe you grew tentacles and five heads. Who knew? Caleb was not planning on trying THAT any time soon!

Adi practically bounced in i his seat when he heard they were indeed going to brew the Polyjuice Potion. How awesome this first class was going to be!
An ingredient? Sure! Adi knew them! Or most of them. He raised his hand, as he looked curiously at West. Those were not ingredients for the Potion he had listed. "Boomslang skin, Professor,'' the first year said.
