She had pretty much figured that a noxious potion would make someone ill enough to vomit or pass out, and everyone had already said so, so she'd decided to keep quiet and listen. She hadn't known it made the person go a bit mad though, thinking that the potion was actually poison. Sort of a strange way of going about things... she thought to herself. Pretty indirect, but maybe that's a good thing in some cases. If she wanted to make someone pass out, she might slip a sleeping draught or something into a drink. Not that she had any ideas of doing that.

She thought back to her first Herbology lesson of the year and the swamp. It's worth a shot, she thought as she raised her hand. "Might there be some sort of algae or rotting fauna involved?" She knew it wasn't a very specific answer, so she tried to narrow it down. "Perhaps an especially smelly toadstool?" She hoped they wouldn't have to test the potion in class. She really didn't feel any inclination to pass out or throw up.

Rawdon was completely distracted by the streak of gray in Lafay's hair. He wanted to answer but his imagination was running wild over what caused her hair to do that. Then he caught the word 'noxious' and began to think of things that made him want to puke. And it didn't help that Prefect Dent Head stole his answer before he could raise his hand.

Think!

Suddenly, he raised his hand. "Professor, perhaps pickled newts eyes because your innards get rather squidgy when you have to pluck 'em and stick 'em in a container and if you squeeze them too hard they pop and stinky goo goes everywhere."

Bleh!

Like a true Vindictus, he was eloquent with his choice of words.

:: Ganymede placed her hand over her mouth. Just the mention of some of these disgusting ingredients was making her nauseous. She raised her other hand and answered "Tobacco flower."

She didn't want to make the potion inside, she hoped they wouldn't make it inside. ::

Tsk tsk.. Ira always enjoyed Potions classes. One, because she actually liked the subject, and two, because of all the.. weird answers cropping up. Though now that Professor Lafay had actually asked about the ingredients needed, which Ira had absolutely no idea about, she just sat with her chin resting on her hands, staring at others.

But she had to answer something. Couldn't just stay quiet, could she? So, raising her hand up, she answered whatever was on the tip of her tongue, "A stinky potion would have stinky things." Yep, that was what she knew for sure. But seeing Lafay, she suddenly looked around for inspiration. What else? What else was stinky? "Rotten veggies? They smell really bad. So even rotten eggs." she said, making a face. "And snake fangs? They are smelly, and release smoke." But did they release white or green smoke? No idea!

And so she had just said what all she could guess.

Nerida was never good with ingredients, but it wouldn't kill her if she never tried.. Trying would not kill her... Though nothing was ringing in her head. Something smelly...Maybe something rotten... She tapped her fingers on her desk.. It usually helped her think if she couldn't remember something...

Maybe it was just best for her to keep quiet for now, and listen to all the other answers..She would answer the next one...

Mika had another idea of what could be in the potion. It was a mundane thing - that when left out for a while would spoil and get all chunky and gross. And kind of smell like old tube socks and dirty men's locker rooms. Kind of how she thought the Locker rooms for the various Quidditch team's 'round the world would smell. Kind of foul and dank and like they came out of some old nose-less-man's refrigerator.

Raising her hand again she offered her answer.

"Professor, could spoiled Cow's milk be an ingredient?" She asked yes it was mundane. But spoiled milk was disgusting enough to be a part of a noxious potion. See she had reasons to think of it. It was noxious in itself.

Alright, so this class will be tame. This potion is not that dangerous. It only manipulates the mind that it is. That sounds pretty cool. So now the question is, what may be in it? Hmmm, I know something, it may be a little too silly, but whatever. Oichi raised her hand, "Is there perhaps any kind of poop in the potion?", Oichi replied doing her best to keep a straight. And poop can be very smelly and unpleasant so you never know.

Christmas sat and thought for a few minutes and raised her hand and said "Professor maybe ashwinder eggs could be an ingredient" Christmas wasn't sure but it was worth a guess

Tom sat there and listened to the other students answering. He had no clue whatsoever what could be in this noxious potion, but as most of the other kids seemed to be guessing he decided to do the same. He raised his hand. Something Sierra said made sense to him. If the potion could be used during a duel, it must produce a lot of gas.. or smoke to have an effect. "The smoke or gas it produces, could that be made wiff potassium nitrate and sugar or somefin'?"

Nope, Tom Broadmoor had not just developed a scientific mind. His mates had shown him how to create basic smoke bombs when he was younger. They were a dead synch to make and caused havoc on the estate back home without being dangerous or harmful.

So, like, Kat had heard of this Potion before. But for the ingredients, she found it hard to figure out. It wasn't too poisonous, and it was real smelly. Lots of them had suggested good ingredients, like... rotten eggs. Like, that's ew. Even doxy eggs. Merlin they like eggs. Thinking harder, Kat made connections with other potions. Like something that can play or confuse someone. The Confusing Concoction, maybe? And the Befuddlement Draught! That left her with a few known ingredients.

Wasn't lovage an ingredient? Only one way to find out. Kat raised her hand. "I think lovage is an ingredient," she said. "It's also an ingredient in the Befuddlement Draught and, as you said Professor, the Noxious Potion can make the smeller think it's poisonous." Erm, yeah. There was just a connection to it and hopefully Lafay understood what she said.

"No. I don't have them, Professor."the Head Boy responded when Lafay thought he had some of the skiving snackbox. Nope. Not anymore to be exact.

Back to the lesson. Gary didn't have any idea about the ingredients of this potions. But also, none of this class knew about this too, right? So kept guessing. "How about... Garlic, Maam?" he guessed. Because garlic has a very strong and bad smells, right? Since this potions seemed have a dangerous fume that could make people sick or passed out.

The noxious potion.

Tiffany had never heard of this potion before. She had no idea of what ingredients they should be adding in order to make this kind of potion even when other students were giving out their answers. There must be some correct ones but she could never distinguish the correct one among them. After listening to what the apple had just said, she came up with another smelly thingy which she hated a lot. Although she didn't think that it made any sense but it did really produce a huge disgusting smell.

"Perhaps...durians, Prof?"she replied in a rather uncertain tone. Durians stink. She had always hated eating them. Its texture and its smell...the whole thing simply stinks. And most importantly, they give out bad smells.

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled. "Does it have poisoned chocolate in it?" Laura thought that would be awesome if it did but she doubted it because that would just be plain wrong and she doubted the Professor would allowed them to make a poison with it in.

Sarah wrote some notes... as in potions she actually took notes. She thought about the ingreidient of similar potions .... the buffdlement potion for example, perhaps scurvy grass then. No, perhaps something smelly. Then she had it. She raised her hand, "what about blue cheese that smells awfully bad? Perfectly gaggable!". It smelt like smelly socks or her brothers after they had done a lot of running around outside.

:: Ganymede cocked her head in amazement at what the Hufflepuff suggested. Who would put poison in chocolate...I mean, I've done stinkbugs in chocolate... but poison? She thought with a grimace on her face. But alas, it turned to a smile when she remembered the prank.
Onzlo (her best pal back home) helped her. ....Gertrude was a huge bully who had a crush on Onzlo. But Gertrude also teased Ganymede endlessly. With Onzlo's help, they made her a special birthday treat. Chocolates... with a special twist. Bully Gertrude took one bite and vowed never to speak to them again. It was perfect.....

She shook her head and laughed at the memory. It was very perfect, but poison in chocolates? Now way! ::

A potion to make you nauseous, well, that was handy. Wade had been quiet since he had no clue on what could be in the potion and waited to hear other's answers before one idea could come to him. Hmm, stuff that produces strong odours.. Wade thought for a while before answering, "Animal droppings? Since no one-" That he knew anyway. "would be willing to ingest that."

Peyton wasn't sure about this one and the mention of icky stuff was making her feel all bleeeeh. She just hoped they wouldn't have to smell this noxious potion, because from the sound of it, it was very unpleasant and Peyton only liked pleasant things.

Rather than not doing anything, the snake wrote down several notes. She knew there'd be water involved, but someone already said it and she didn't want to push Lafay's buttons by repeating it.

So far what Gavin was seeing happening in class, was not of any concern to him. She was asking good questions about the potion. Though her sarcasm at times was a bit amusing especially with the students reactions towards it or then again lack of reactions at times.

Taking notes here and there he kept watching and listening.

...he remembered that he actually needed this class. Damn...it was an important subject. Scoffing, he dropped his bad back on his seat and sat down. He could not miss a potions class just because he was annoyed at Aurora.

How Lafay made it sound like Aurora thought he was now an ingredient for that Noxious potion. Meh...girls...it had always been difficult to understand them. So difficult. Whatever...back to class. The professor asked something.

''What about dungbombs, professor?'' he said idly, running a hand through his wet blond hair. ''Sounds like they can be used for same purposes.''

Nigel actually wondered if there was poison in it. But in became diluted as other ingredients went into the potion. Nigel had no idea. But he did not want to stay quiet.

"Is there actual poison in it. But it becomes diluted as other ingredients are added"

But animal droppings sounded horrible in any potion.

What Ingredients? Water was a given, but what woud the Noxious Potion have in it."Would this Potion need old, rotten, and expired ingredient?"Oakey answered Professor Lafay's question with a Question of his own."Like if the ingredient had mold build-up on it, it would be perfect for the Noxious Potion."

"Nope... those are way too big to use in a classroom anyway. And yes, you could contract Stinkitus, if and only if, the victim knew what it was. The mind is a scary tool... it can give you the symptoms of something if you know the causes." Did that make sense? She hoped so.

"That's a very good answer. Yes. Doxy eggs are used." She said.

"Actually it isn't." She said and smirked. "Water is not used in this potion."

"That's also a good answer, but no. No onions... well... not in the vegetable form." She said.

"No, Miss Potter, if this potion was to be ingested maybe, but no. They are not present." She said.

"Sulfur. Yes. That's one of the ingredients." And the form of onion or garlic present. "But no rotten eggs."

"No. Asphodel is not an ingredient." She said with a shrug.

She blinked... Odd. She didn't think anyone would guess that. "Yes. It is."

"No. It isn't deadly." She said. Didn't she say this already.

"Yes, the potion does call for flobberworm mucus." She said.

"Yes. There is whale oil." She said.

"... no... not exactly." She said looking at the girl.

She chuckled at his description. "I kind of wish they were in the potion... but alas, they aren't."

"Nope." She said

... how were snake fangs stinky?! Weird. "Well yes, but vegetables, eggs and fangs are not it."

"Yes. Well, it isn't spoiled. But yes. Cow's milk is the base." She said.

"Yes, there is dung in the potion... Mountain Troll Dung" she said. "Not only is it the smelliest dung ever, it's also has magical properties that alter your mind."

"Not in this one." she said.

"No, the smoke is from the Troll Dung." She said.

"No lovage." She said.

"No, not in that form... just regular sulfur." She told the Head Boy.

"They do smell... but no." She said to her.

"Miss Hyde, there are no poisons in this potion." She said getting annoyed.

"Nope...." She said.

"Yes, a Troll's" She said getting annoyed.

"Dung, not dungbombs..." She said to him.

"No, no actual poison." She said.

"No..." She looked at the prefect. "Those are not necessary. The lemon will curdle the milk."

She pointed at the black board and the following appeared.

• Cow Milk - to fill cauldron half way.
• 5 Doxy eggs
• 10 grams of Sulfur
• 2 ounces of armadillo bile
• 4 cups of flobberworm mucus
• 1 cup of whale oil
• 2 cups of Mountain Troll Dung
• 1 Lemon's juice
• Handful of Poppy seeds

Alyssa waited as the other students gave their suggestions and then listened attentively as Professor Lafay replied to each of their answers.

'I should have known poppy seeds would be in there. The side effects of consuming them are vomiting and nausea.' Alyssa thought to herself belatedly remembering what her grandfather had told her even as she quickly picked up her quill and started copying down the ingredients into her journal.

Well, at least he got sulfur right.

Mucus, Oil...Dung...true to its name, this potion is a noxious one. Picking up his quill, he wrote down all of the ingredients from the board and prepared himself for the actual potion making.

Today's lesson is going to be a nasty one...

Amelia just blinked in response to what Professor Lafay had said. Yes? To both? Was she going to be a potions mistress one day - heck yeah! She was GOOD at this. She just smiled to herself and just felt like patting herself on the back for that one.

So sure the potion had some foul ingredients...but dung was used to fertilize things. So she had no idea what they would do with a potion that made people think it was poisonous. The first thing she did was set up her ingredients so they were all at arms reach.
