Sutton stared around the classroom. Everyone seemed to have gotten up all at once and were all moving around the classroom, and Sutton had no idea where to start. Standing up, taking her paper, quill, and herbology textbook with her, she moved around the room, looking for some herbs that she might recognize. After wandering around the room, staring at the pots, she thought she saw one she recognized. Inching closer, she sat down her book next to it and started flipping through it, just to make sure.

Smiling, proud of herself, her began jotting down the notes in her table:

Minerva finally pulled herself away to the most interesting plant she had come across. She really wanted to know more about it, but needed to finish her chart as well. As she walked through the greenhouse seeing all the other students a sent caught her nose. She stopped and tried to figure out where it was coming from. It was a smell she knew well. Her mother use to use the herb in many of her dishes she cooked for their dinners.

Minerva smiled at the memory missing her mother at that moment. Things would be so much more normal if her parents were here, she thought to her self, but living with her grandparents this summer was not horrible either. She shook it out of her head and moved closer to the plant. Leaning in she smelled the leaves and knew right away it was basil.

Pulling out her parchment she began writing about the green leafy plant that she had saw her mother pick and use in so many different ways. Sometimes crumbling it, sometimes just leaving it whole. She enjoyed watching her mother cook and thought maybe she could see if she could use some basil sometime and cook in the kitchen if the elves would allow her. Once she finished with her parchment she stood and waited for their next activity.

Now to find Ari's second plant...She knew she was running out of time so Ariella hurried over toward one of the plants that didn't have as many students huddled around it and quickly found it somewhere in her textbook...

Mint done... now he had to move away before he ended up thinking about toothpaste and chewing gum. Because, really, the plant smelt kind of nice. You know... as plant smells go.

He was so lucky that Messy wasn't around and couldn't read his thoughts. Can you imagine the amount of teasing he'd get from this? Shudder.

The Hufflepuff ruffled his hair and continued to move around, weaving in between the other students to try and get closer to some of the herbs. Or... to some plants that reminded him of herbs. Maybe he needed to go around sniffing some plants to see if they were the herbs he was meant to be looking for.

And then another whiff of plant caught his attention. He sniffed a little before moving a little closer to the plant closest to him. A couple of seconds later, the boy grinned. Thyme, right? Right! His dad liked to use this one a lot when it came to food so... he should know this!

The final herb that Terry searched for within the greenhouse was another popular choice, although he wasn't sure if anyone had spotted it yet. The bloom was distinctive and it was quite a tall plant in comparison with others there. He was drawn to it straight away. It wasn't a herb they used often, Terry and his sister found the flavour to be far too strong and sometimes mouth numbing when it was added to dishes. However, it was one that they grew in the garden, if not only for the flowers it produced.

This time he had taken his notes with him to the plant and he knelt down beside it, resting his parchment table on a small ledge. He studied the plant closely, writing down its description and then its uses, at least the uses that he knew, in a little more detail.

Once he had completed his notes he headed back over to his desk. He was quite proud of his first piece of work he had ever produced for Hogwarts. He hoped that he would be able to keep the standard up throughout the whole year and not start slacking. Herbology was something however that he knew he wouldn't lose interest in and his mother would be so pleased that he was enjoying it.

He looked up at the Professor and waited for the next instruction.

Laura was going to do this task even if it took her ages, she wanted to show everyone that should could work, looking at the next herb she found one that she liked now though she had to describe it.



Laura looked at her work okay so that was two down, now just three more to go but well she would want to find some good herbs for her list, she continued looking round the green house hoping to find something good.

Two down, three to go which means after writing down this next plant Ari will be more than halfway done with the activity. That was a relief because it was kinda...boring, not that all these plants weren't interesting...

Ari sqeezed between some students and saw a plant that was somewhat familiar to her...

The smell of thyme kind of reminded him of his home with his Dad. And the treehouse... except that didn't smell like thyme at all. That smelt more woody like a broom.

But... moving on... Alec weaved his way around the crowd of people a bit more. He... didn't really understand how so many people could fit into one greenhouse. But then again, this was Hogwrats. Nothing was exactly as it met the eye, was it?

... Now he was just confused.

The boy closed his eyes and shook his head. There. Confusion gone. He opened his eyes and blinked over at the nearest plant. Was that...? He moved a little closer and bent down until he was level with the plant. Yeah... it definitely was. Oregano! Like the thing they use in pizza! GRIN!

Almost done! Yes! Ella smiled and checked her text book again, scanning for any herbs that she may have overlooked. There were tons in there, obviously, but she was looking for some of the more commonly known ones, the ones she'd be able to spot immediately. Going over the various types, her eyes were drawn to Wolfsbane. The flowers on that particular herb were quite distinguished so it shouldn't be too hard to locate that particular plant.

Walking around the greenhouse for what seemed like the hundreth time, the small blonde stopped short when she noticed a plant matching the description of the particular herb she was searching for. Score! She was a brilliant herb detective, yeah? And so she bent down, double checking that she was in fact looking at wolfsbane which was also aconite which was also monkshood. Yup. It definitely. Time for the chart.

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.



And she was done! Meep! Not too shabby.

Vickers now turned away from the flowerbeds and walked around, thinking of finding something new to identify. It wasnt long that he spotted some berries that looked to be ripe for the picking. Flipping his book open he compared the appearance of this plant with those in the book, as it was easy to mistake these for something else. After a while he was sure he's got himself some blackberries

Laura suddenly found another herb now though she had to discribe it and at the minute she wasn't doing very good at that but well at least she was trying, hopefully the Professor would realise that and wouldn't tell her off for not doing a good job.



Laura smiled as she wrote down what she saw, this was the third one now all she needed too do was two more, hopefully everything was going to be okay and the Professor would look at her work.

Alec grinned widely. Two more to go! Only two and then he was done!

GRINGRINGRIN!

The fourteen year old walked around some more in a slightly better mood. The quicker they got this done, the quicker they could move on, right? Because some of the plants were making his nose itch. And he needed to get away really, really quickly and bump into a plant that smelt nice.

And then he stopped. Speaking of a plant that smelt nice... wasn't that Lavender? Yeah... yeah, it was! It was all... purpley and the flower bits were long. Perfect! Now he could note down a nice smelling plant like that mint one. And... he didn't have anything that smelt like Lavender so he couldn't start getting hungry. Awesome!

Wooo! Tag was almost done. He'd gotten three down already and only needed two more to finish this task of the class. Oddly enough, he was feeling really good about himself. Even though he came to classes, he had never gotten so far in class that he managed to finish the material within the class time. So he wandered around the greenhouse some more and went to the far back where it seemed less students were crowding around.

Plant 4: Aconite
Appearance: The roots look like tubes and the middle section of the leaves are green while the flowers are deep blue
Useable parts: Roots are mainly used
Uses: Lowers fever, helps with toothaches,coughs and chills

Oh, but this wasn't the last plant he was meant to observe. Pity. Lavender did smell quite nice. And it didn't make his nose tickle like some of the other plants did, which was good. So... he could just stay by the lavender plant and pretend to observe it some more, right? Or... no?

Probably not.

Plus, his roommate already thought he was a girl. Once he got wind of the fact that he didn't mind the smell of lavender, the guy might just get him girly things that smelt of lavender for his next birthday. And Alec would get him a pink tutu and a pink tiara and other pink things as a joke. It has been decided.

But he had to move on so... the fourteen year old sniffed one last time before walking away as quickly as possible. No one would ever notice that. Nope! GRIN! He continued walking right up to the point where he nearly bumped into another plant. And this one... wasn't that used in Potions? Dittany, or something? Right. He had found his last herb!

Alec scribbled the last couple of words before grinning down at the completed table. He was done! Awesome! ... Now what was next?

Laura had found her fourth herb, she was doing good at the minute, well she thought she was but well she would have too wait for the Professor to have a look at her work, her work didn't look very good at the minute and she hoped that the Professor wouldn't mind her work too much.



Laura looked down at the sheet there was one more too do and hopefully then she would be able to find out what they were doing next because this lesson was interesting her.

The garlic smell was almost getting unbearable, but Kendall was determined to finish the activity. Maybe she could go force the Hufflepuff boy to keep his mouth shut or something, though, considering she knew that she wouldn't be able to escape it when she got back to her bag, either. Not unless Professor Bentley ended class right away because of garlic breath, but she doubted it. Plus, she still wanted to ask her about chocolate mint, which would mean staying behind at least for a few minutes. Maybe she could find herbs far away from Aspen and garlic breath, and she tried turning the opposite direction. Avoiding trampling the pretty ginger plant she'd just found and noted down, and looking for anything that looked herby. She still had chocolate on the brain, though, which kept distracting her.

She stopped at a bush that looked kind of familiar, and stared at it until she realized why. She must've stumbled upon an area for potions ingredients, although she remembered using ginger before too. These were different ones, and she examined the pretty flowers and dark berries for a moment or two. Totally different potions came to mind with this one, and she wondered which name to write down. Belladonna or just nightshade? Maybe I'll write both and decide when I do the chart, she thought, pulling out her parchment again to note down the appearance of the bush. At least there was that to do, and that didn't involve lots of thought. Maybe I can find my last herb over here too. It was worth a try.

Her fourth herb was an easy choice. She spotted purple blossom from several feet away, but it was the odor she recognized as she got closer. Humming quietly under her breath, Vivi touched one finger to the red-gold stigma, coming away with dark powder on her fingers. She smeared the yellow on her face absently as she retrieved her parchment and began to take notes.

She wouldn't steal any petals from this, not only because there weren't any that were loose for the taking, but also because the best part was the pollen, and she couldn't just pocket that.

"I'm just wild about saffrooooon."

Finished with his first herb, Gideon started moving again, a slow progression around the area. The other students were around as well of course, though the seventh year was trying not to be copying off of anyone. Finally he came to his next likely candidate; a plant about 2 feet tall with leaves that were more long and narrow then short and round and smelled a bit. Looking into his textbook and briefly scanning the pages, the Gryffidor was able to identify it as sage. Adding it to the next spot on his table, he proceeded to fill in all the squares like he had with lovage right beforehand.

Lex watched the plant intently as Seri began speaking to it. That was actually quite brilliant! The plant might not have understood english! Duh! Why didn't she think of that sooner? "That's some smart thinking there." She said, giving a wink to her friend. Now to wait...and wait...okay so maybe it wasn't going to do anything afterall.

"This thing is being difficult and annoying! How am I supposed to know it's name if it doesn't tell me?" A good question considering she had never seen any of these plants before. With a sigh she looked down at her parchment.



....

This was getting pretty depressing. The plants weren't cooperating and everyone seemed to be almost done! The Professor would probably blow her top when she saw her parchment. Or, you know, maybe she would understand. All Lex needed was a very convincing story...but what...?

Hmmm...

Laura looked around the greenhouse and smiled as she found another herb, she was going to try and make a good description of this, but well at the minute she wasn't doing very good at that, but at least she was trying.



Laura looked at her sheet, she was a bit worried the Professor wouldn't like it but at least she had tried her best, this wasn't her best subject and last term she would have just sat doing nothing but this term she had decided that she was going to try her hardest in lessons.

Alrighty here we go off to get his last herb. Oakey moved around the greenhouse some until he spotted one he liked. He moved over to it and was just about to pick it up, when Professor Bentley startled him with a shocking minus five points! "Ah oh sorry Professor!". He hadn't heard the directions properly because of being all the way in the back. He scurried back to the station and grabbed the other four herbs, placing them back in their spots. He was finally down to his last one when a certain root found it's way in front of Oakey's foot. He tripped and went falling forward...

Merlin this won't end well.

Minerva had finished her chart and was going to walk back to the spot she originally was at before they started the lesson. Her mind was wondering on the different plants in the room and still on the five points she had lost for being late when she noticed Oakey coming towards her. She had heard Professor Bentley take points from him and was about to smile at him when she noticed he was all of the sudden coming towards her to quickly. She realized just in time that he was falling with a plant in his hand.

She dropped her book and parchment to the floor and stuck out her hands to maybe catch him and help him not break the plant and so that he wouldn't in the midst of his fall crush her either. Holding out her hands she grabbed his shoulders, but being that he was older then her and taller she couldn't hold him up and she went falling backwards. Just as she was about to fall she pushed his shoulder to push him to the side of her and to hopefully help him not fall on the plant. Once she was on the ground she sat up and looked at Oakey, "Are you okay?" then she looked for the plant to see if it was okay as well.

Looking around, Ari noticed that a few of the other students were already finishing up on their table and she decided it was time to get a move on! She quickly sribbled down the rest of her last answer and speed walked towards another station. She was almost done, just two more to do...

Tag was literally there. He could taste the finish line. As he walked around the classroom some more he began to do a little side to side dance with his arms as he found himself looking at a new and his last herb to take a good gander at. There, he found an interesting looking one. Making sure he didn't bump into his classmates, or step on anyone's toes, Tag made his way to the place.

Plant 5: Fennel
Appearance: Large clumps, not much color on flowers with brown oval seeds.
Useable parts: Leaves,stems,roots, and seeds
Uses: Helps with digestive system and helps stop spasms

Yay! Tag was done. He couldn't help but smile a little as he closed his notebook,but kept his thumb on the page of his notes. He finished and he was very proud of his work. Now he stood on the outside of the aisles so he wouldn't get in the other students way.

As he continued to fall forward he was briefly slowed down by the random appearance of fellow Hufflepuff Minerva. She didn't catch so much as push him off to the side,as his falling had caused her to fall as well.

Not wanting to cause the Nettle any harm Oakey tucked it into his body like protecting a quaffle in Quidditch. As he landed he let off a loud "UMPH!"
He looked around on the ground to see if any of the herb had been lost. It seemed that all of the plant was safely tucked away laying on his chest. "The herb is okay." Oakey said as he sat up and neatly placed the herb back in it's rightful spot, then brushing off his school robe.

He gave a thankful smile to Minerva and quick nod before he hurried off once more to take notes of his last herb.

Before headed back to the last plant he looked down to the floor to step over the root he had tripped over, but no root was there...how odd.

He reached the herb and took his notes on it without picking it up this time.
