Another term and another lot of new faces and names to memorise. Then again, with such a good memory and the opportunity to watch the sorting, life was a lot easier.
Seren stood, arms by her side, rocking back and forth on her heels and toes. The first lesson would be... different to what she would usually do. Better in some ways, but not so much in others. Feeling all 'mixed emotions' about the task she had in mind, she waited for them to arrive.
Hopefully the students would be in a right enough state of mind to gather in front of her and not cause too much trouble. Despite her lack of instruction to do so.
OOC: The lesson will officially begin in approximately 12 hours. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
Taylor walked around until she saw Lemon balm. She shall make it her fifth and last herb. Tay settled her writing things and textbook down and shifted so that she could use her quill. Taylor started filling out the table and finishing it.
SPOILER!!: table
Tay grinned as she finished the last word on the last herb on the table. Taylor packed up, leaving the parchment out. She went over to where the professor was to wait for further instructions.
Now Nigel had to move on to another herb. Even if it meant he had to open his textbook again, just to find the name of the herb. Nigel went to the herb right next to the one he just researched. He did not want to walk around the greenhouse anymore than he had to. He opened up his textbook to identify this one.
Well it looked like it was Wormwood. Nigel thought he heard about that one in potions or someplace. Lafay might have talked about it. But Nigel was probably to afraid of her to remember.

She copied down her second herb down and knew this was becoming easy to understand. She put in little notes so she could understand them later. She hated copying down pointless details.
Cora wandered around, admiring the plants all around her. She was more of an animal person, but she loved nature in general too. She skipped around, and found two pretty flowers which she could identify. She knew a bit about them so she added them to her table. Chamomile. Dandelions. They definitely had medicinal purposes, and Cora rather liked their beauty, despite the fact that they were so common no one would really be too impressed. Cora liked the small things.

Sierra glanced down at the chart she'd been working out. She frowned at the tiny spaces she'd left herself to write in, but honestly, she didn't think Bentley would mind. The woman dealt with dung on an everyday basis. Why would she fret over a few areas of squeezed in handwriting here and there?
Sierra edged past a few others standing around here and there then made her way to a different row of plants. She passed by the first few, not knowing enough information about them to write them down. Oh, ...mandrakes! Like Gillyweed, those were a pretty common species of plant.
Sierra moved off to the side and added Mandrakes to her chart. She went into detail about how they resembled wood-like humans with plants coming out their heads. Then she went on to list their parts and talk about how they were used to cure people from petrification and could be added to various potions.

Ella walked around, eyes traveling from her text book to the plants and back again. She wanted to pick out the right plants and so she was really trying to concentrate on what she was doing, though there WERE a lot of really interesting plants to see and Ells had many questions about them. Those would have to wait, though. She was on an herb hunt. Mhm.
Spotting something that looked a lot like pine needles, Ella raised her eyebrows and double checked her book. Yup. She had found some rosemary. That was an herb, yeah? Bending down a bit to observe it better, the third year decided she'd add it to her chart.

When she was done, the third year double checked her work and headed off in search of her next herb.
To say that Count Drodessula startled him would have been an understatement. When the girl popped out of nowhere, Elijah backed away suddenly, whacking his ankle on a stool that was inconveniently positioned behind him. He muttered a few curse words as he frantically rubbed the back of his ankle, willing the pain to subside.
The pain was mostly forgotten, however, when he heard the words leave Aspen's mouth. "For..." GULP, "... us?" he repeated. Oh Merlin. It was TRUE. She had purposefully turned him so that she could have a new vampire FRIEND to play with. She had infected him so that she could force him to join their little nocturnal club! Elijah had been terrified of Aspen ever since she bit and infected him, but he was still a MAN and he refused to be bullied by this FANGER (even if his confidence did waver slightly when she showed off her teeth). When his fangs grew in, Elijah knew he'd still be attractive. In fact, maybe he'd start a trend...? But, he'd still rather NOT be a vampire.
"What... what you did to me... was NOT cool, Aspen," he managed to mumble. "You should ask someone's PERMISSION before... before... turning them. There has to be... laws, or something... against that." Elijah might have reported her to the authorities, if he wasn't scared she and her vampire clan of a family wouldn't come and rip out his throat... Besides, he was going to be seeing Healer Tillstorm for a cure, anyway. Or so he hoped.
Trying to avoid the girl some more, he quickly walked past her to a plant that was next to the purple one he had been making notes on previously. He recognised the smell, actually. He began to take in the scent of the plant with the small, white balls, occasionally looking behind him to see if Aspen was still lurking behind him like a creeper...
"Ssssssome might argue it'sssss very cool, Wilde. In fact, one might sssssay it'ssssss literally cool." As in, his new body temperature. Aspen was more or less hissing, like a snake and not a Vampire. But she figured it'd freak Elijah either way.
She followed him. He could NOT have picked a better herb next. Her fangy grin was ALL too real this time.
"Garlic," Aspen WHISPERED with a great deal more theatrics than she usually possessed. Though, she WAS possessed with by an imaginary vampire, so maybe it was normal? Hard to tell. "You need to take a little bite of this one. In fact, it'sssss recommended that we eat as much as we CAN when we're young. You know, build up our immunity to it. Go on. I'll watch your back while you eat a clove."
Belle went down the line and noticed a herb she saw in potion's class. She remembered it and she used her book to look it up. It began with a W, she knew that.

After she copied down the other herb and used the information in the book, she went around looking for her 4th herb to put onto the list.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey wanted something different, he wanted a herb that would stand out amongst his other herbs he had chosen. So as he ventured around some he came across some gillyweed. He remembered having to take some for History of Magic a few years back and it made him shudder. Grabbing the gillyweed Oakey moved back to his station.
once he finished writing he moved on to find his fourth herb.

Melanie didn't actually know that many herbs. Her parents did though because they used it a lot more than she did. She knew there were those you could eat and those used to garnish dishes. That was pretty much it. And she didn't even know all of those that she could eat. Biting down on her lip she looked around the place, clutching her parchment with the chart she had copied down. Melanie walked around the green house, wondering if Landon knew any herbs. Probably... right? She's ask him later. For now she would have to look on her own.
She spotted a green leafy plant she knew for sure. She knew it because it was often on top of her food whenever she went out to eat with her family - Parsley. Grinning, the Gryffindor walked right over to it looking at it. Now... what was she supposed to write? Her grin faded as she stared at the plant before scribbling something down on her parchment.
SPOILER!!: chart
Right... that was one down... four more to go.

Once he found his way over to Spike, Max passed his friend, giving him a gentle poke in the side with the feathery end of his quill, then he searched the nearest table for a relevant plant. Hmm. Well, there was both rosemary and sage nearby. He turned suddenly, hearing a sneeze, and offered a "bless you" to Genevieve.
Looking back to his parchment, Max scribbed 'Sage' in his first box, deciding it was the easiest of the two to write about, then he only glanced up at the plant once before he completed his chart. When he finished, he scribbled his name in the top right corner.

Hoorah. That was a nice way to spend fifteen minutes or so - a nice refresher, a test to see what he remembered about various herbs. He probably got something mixed up with another plant along the way, but he wasn't too bothered by it. Now that he was finished, he spent the remaining time peering at random plants he didn't recognize, wondering if they would be learning about any of them this year. They probably learned about them once upon a time, actually, but he just forgot about them. Oops.

Annabelle was on the hunt looking for her 4th herb. She was looking around for a while till she found another herb used in potion's class. She was excited to be done with the chart. She was on the lookout for her last herb of the day and she was looking through her textbook for the last one.

Cooool. Heheheh. Funny, Aspen. O_____O. GULP.
One could only imagine his displeasure when Aspen followed him to his next plant and then informed him of what it was... garlic. Elijah KNEW he had recognised the smell and he couldn't have picked a worse plant considering what he was dealing with right now.
"Eat it...?" Elijah questioned, confused. Didn't garlic repel vampires? Was she trying to KILL him after just TURNING him? Rude. So rude. She was like that kid who begggggeeeed and begggggeeeeed for a puppy, but never took it walks after the novelty had worn off.
He had been about to pull her up about the whole garlic vs. vampire thing, when she beat him to it and explained how he had to eat it when he was young to boost his immunity. It kind of made sense, actually, but Elijah was NOT going to let her see him giving in to her ridiculous absurdities...
He quickly filled out the next row of his table:
Quote:
Plant: Garlic
Appearance: Plant-like, with garlic cloves on it
Usable Parts: Garlic
Uses: To keep away unwanted Odessas
"Why don't you pick the next plant, Aspen?" Elijah offered since the girl clearly wasn't leaving him alone. He didn't feel AS uncomfortable as when they first started talking, even if the fangs were still giving him chills.
When her back was turned when she began leading him to whatever plant was next, he quickly snapped a clove of garlic off the plant and popped it in his mouth and by God it was... AWFUL.
*SPIT*
"Blllllerrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!" I think it was safe to say that if Tillstorm couldn't come up with a cure for him, he'd just avoid garlic altogether instead of trying to build up his immunity. But he did pocket some extra cloves just incase... maybe he could make a nice, less RAW soup?
Why had his life become so difficult? Did he even HAVE a life now? Were vampires not technically dead? Elijah didn't even know who he WAS anymore. Where was the vampire induction training!?

It took Aspen a second to track down the next relevant and useable herb: wolfsbane.
While she was turned, the Hufflepuff ATE A CLOVE OF GARLIC. Aspen didn't have to SEE to know... in fact, she only needed to SMELL the boy next to her to know.
"Good job. Most new ones throw up after they eat garlic the first time. You'll be able to eat a few cloves in no time."
No time at all.
"Come on. The next one you need to know is over here. Wolfsbane. Monkshood. Aconitum. It's got lots of names, but by wary of it's USE. It helps out werewolves. Everyone knows a rational werewolf is of no use at all." Obviously. "It's poisonous," she added casually. "Don't eat this one."

Still wandering around, Cassia kept glancing down at her chart in case herbs descriptions popped up out of the blue. Ehh…that of course never happened.
However, Cassia started getting closer to where students were looking. Maybe if other students knew about those she would too. She is counting on her own lousy memory of herbs she had heard of, seen her grandmother using or from last year. If only plants' names and descriptions were easy to remember and memorize but NO that would be helpful and easy!
At first she didn't encounter any familiar ones. Then she stopped near one and tried to remember any information about it . it was so hard at first but gradually she was able to extract info. She reached for the quill and started filling the fourth field.

Awar stopped a plant that she seemed to recognize as Gillyweed. She was skimming over her book the other day and came across it. She double-checked just to make sure.
Plant: Gillyweed| Appearance: Slimy, greenish grey. Shade depends on freshness.| Usable Parts: The whole plant is usable.| Uses: When swallowed, gives you gills and webs between your fingers and toes. Also, used in Gillywater and some potions.
She looked at the plant, blew up her cheeks, stuck her hands behind them like gills, and wobbled them back and forth and swam proceeded on.

NUMBER FOUR.
That was only one away from number five, and then Sierra would be DONE. Knowing this, she sped through the aisles of plants. Well, she wasn't running, of course, but she was walking at a quicker pace now, only looking for the plants she knew would help her in this assignment.
She did a double-take and backtracked a bit. Was that a--... Oh, so it was! Sierra paused next to the Wiggentree and began taking notes. How could she best describe this? It...had bark. A trunk and leaves... She jotted that down. Finally, she wrote down what she really did know a lot about--what it was used for. It was a really good defense against dark creatures, and it was used in a lot of potions, too.

He had his book with him of course and took a knee, the book spread over his leg while he flipped through and matched up the picture with the herb in front of him. Hmmm. He couldn't fit all the good stuff about what it could do on his chart, but West found himself reading extra anyways, absorbing eagerly. Also called Pelican Flower? And Snakeweed? Well West liked 'Snakeroot' better. He wrote that down, and the flashy Latiny name too.

Definitely a herb, and one that had magical properties too so that was super cool. He assumed that meant in potions? Probably. Next one? He got up and looked for his next herb.

Aspen STARED at Count Elijah.
Not because he ate a clove of garlic AND had more in his pocket AND stunk to the high heaves. No. She STARED because he had clearly not read a book this decade. She was torn between being impressed and massively depressed for him.
"Both of those, of course." Of course. "But you need not worry about them. Just eat your garlic and you'll be fine. What could hurt you now?" You know?
Aspen beckoned him over to the next plant. She pondered a minute or two on whether or not asphodel was a herb or not... but either way, it served her purposes. She spoke in a HUSHED WHISPER again, "This is asphodel, Elijah. It's ssssssssacred among the dead. Witches and wizards use its roots to make Draught of Living Death. As you can imagine, it's quite a revered plant among the vampire kind."
With that, Aspen bowed her head in front of it. "Show your respectsssss. Maybe don't breathe on it."

Ella continued to walk around, looking for more herbs that might be growing in the greenhouse. As she walked along, she eyed her text book, hoping to find some of the ones listed there. Luckily for her, the third year stopped near some wormwood, recognizing the plant from a picture shown in her book. Heh. She was such an awesome herb detective. Picking up her quill, the badger recorded some notes about that particular herb in her chart, making sure to be as detailed as possible. When she was done, she smiled. 2 down. Awesome.
