| | | Library Technician: Sign ups The Library is looking for a group of Library assistants!!
Ever wanted to learn more about books or how to take care of them? Well look no further, this term Mr Kitridge has decided to take on a group students that will get to help him out around the library while they get some work experience as library technicians. Library technicians are those who preserve and maintain the library and its books and other properties. Without them the libraries around the country couldn't remain open. Throughout the term Mr Kitridge will give the group of student’s tasks. This is an RP opportunity, NOT a points opportunity. This project is solely for RP fun and character development not about how many points you can achieve. Points may be given at the end of term at the discretion of Nordic Witch, but this is not guranteed.
Feel like rolling up your sleeves and dedicating your spare time to the library then tell Mr Kitridge by submitting the below form in the submission box!!! Quote:

I think you should be allowed to eat and drink in the library, but what is allowed should be very limited and it should be discouraged in most situations. But if a student expects to be studying in the library for a very long time, especially if they are studying for OWLs, then they might need snacks to give them energy and keep them going. Taking a trip to the kitchens could take away from studying time. All food and drink should be kept as far away from library books as possible. Only water should be allowed for drink, because it doesn't stain, and it should be kept in cups with no-spill lids. Food should be restricted to snacks that won't make a mess or leave crumbs, and students should clean their hands afterwards before handling books again. Any damage to them should be reported immediately to someone who knows how to properly clean and care for books and old texts. If a student doesn't clean up after themself or fails to report any damages caused, then these privileges (not rights) could be taken away. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
The library is a place of learning and knowledge. Many students study for their exams in the library, so it's important that the library is quiet so that students can concentrate. We are in a big castle with large grounds. If students want to be dramatic, there are plenty of other places they can go.

Yes, you should be able to eat and drink in the library, but you should be very careful when you do it. Some bookstores sell food and drinks, and people always eat and drink while reading there. I think if someone is planning on reading or even studying for along time, they will need snacks, and having snacks in the library will mean they can spend more time reading.
Though sometimes we need to be extra super careful with some books. like really old books, or one of a kind books should be especially protected. like a section of the library where these kind of special books are should be food and drink free. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning?
Both. Books like textbooks, and books that are real such as the Boy Scouts hand books can teach us all sorts of things. Theres all sorts of things you can learn from books, the borings things like math, and awesome things like how to start a campfire. And how cool are pirates like Black Beard or things like knights? There are book about them that are educational and dramatic. But there are also the books that are made up. They can be full of drama and adventure. And there was sometimes lots of drama at my mom's book club meetings.

Yes and no. I believe there should be some foods and drinks allowed in the library because there are some people (like me) that spend more than half their free time there and sometimes while doing homework one forgets to go to the Great Hall to eat. This, though, should be limited. For example, foods that are easily carried in a sack and drinks that have caps on them. So, food should be allowed for the people that enjoy living spending time in the library. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
It depends what kind of drama you mean. If it's concerning a book genre then, yes. Although, those aren't as fun as books about dragons and toadstools. But, yes. Learning should be a priority when spending time in a library because you are surrounded by years and decades of knowledge.

No! I don't think we should be able to eat or drink anything in the library because you know there will be that one person or multiple people that will make a mess everywhere and then the books will get messy and who wants to check out a book with someone elses mess on it? I know I sure don't. Should you be able to drink and eat anything you like in the library? (Yes/No, explain why)

It's supposed to be for learning. Afterall that is where people go to study and read, and I don't think anybody would appreciate being disturbed by someone elses petty drama.

Should you be able to drink and eat anything you like in the library? (Yes/No, explain why): No, you risk getting food or spilling drinks on the books. Plus eating crunchy food could be loud and distracting to those trying to study in library.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why): The library is supposed to be a place of learning. Students need a quiet place where the can checkout books and learn in a quiet environment so that all they learn has the best chance at sinking in. Drama just causes chaos which is notmeant for a library. Oichi Paulidine

In my opinion, you should be allowed to eat and drink in the library, but it should be limited to certain food and drinks. Things like water, biscuits and the like are fine since these types of food are easy to clean; crumbs could be swept of the table and spilled water would simply be wiped away with a rag. But, snacks like cupcakes with icing and coffee shouldn't be allowed in the library since if spilled, they could stain the table - or worse the books, and these kinds of substances would be harder to clean, for example, if coffee spilled over on a table, it would be hard to clean it since it would become sticky from the sugar in it, and the smell of coffee would always be stuck on the wood. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
It really depends on how you define drama, if it's drama like two screaming girls fighting over a guy, then no, the library doesn't need that. But if it's of the cultural kind, the genre of a certain book then that sort of drama truly belongs in the library. I guess I could say that the library should be a center for learning. It is a place where students can run to so that they could adequately prepare for a difficult exam, or research a topic that they were curious about, or simply enjoy a quiet book.

Both yes and no for me. They say when your eat during studying the brain works better. So i do suggest that maybe we could bring up snacks that gives power to the brain when studying such as peanuts. However, the librarian has the right to scold when some students will take advantage of this. It is still a library and rules are rules. Eating too many stuffs in such a place is not right... that's why we have the Great Hall and the kitchens for these. And as for drinks, water should be fine too. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
Learning. If people want drama they can take it outside. It's pointless if one person decides to make the library a battle ground just because he/she attempts to declare war over someone. It's stupid. Hogwarts is a big place, I don't see that the library should be a place to fight. Besides, people who wants drama in the library should be considerate... PEOPLE STUDY AND READS BOOKS HERE and NOT to listen to their agenda. They should keep it outside where the professors can see them and deduct points.

No people should not be allowed to drink or eat anything in the library, due to the fact that their are many new, old, and ancient books that could will be ruined by spills or greasy fingers! Also, there are rare/ancient books in the Hogwarts Library that can be only found there, and can be ruined very easily, and if they are ruined it would be very hard to replace them and some you wouldnt be able to. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
The library is a place for learning, not for people to bring their daily drama into and disrupt people that are trying to finish their homework or do their essay last minute or cram for their OWLS/NEWTS when it is time. If people bring in their drama then people wouldnt be able to get their work done...

No, for many reasons; these books are very old and any food in the library could and will damage them which would cause the school a lot of grief. It would take invaluable time to clean it up. You also have the great hall to eat at and the library is for reading and studying, a quiet, place. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
Learning, you can find a place to start drama in other places. The library is full of many books and stories that can help you not only in your classes, but alsp in normal, non-school activities.

No, eating and drinking should not be allowed in the library. For the preservation of the books, all food and drinks should be banned from entering into the library. Books, precious books, need to be taken care with a careful gentleness. Even one crumb can soil a whole book. Drinks are absolutely HORRID for books; they would ruin a book for ALL ETERNITY. So, thus, all food and drink should be kept out of the library.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
The library is most definitely a center for learning. Much can be learned from books. The way a book is written, the words, the text, and all of the information contained in books can be absorbed in the quietness of the library. In addition, since the library is a quiet place, students can easily do homework or pleasure reading here. Libraries should never be a place to entertain the whims of teenage drama; it would disrupt other students who have better, more intelligent things to do than to involve themselves in such foolishness.
Thank you, Elliot.

--> I don't believe so. With food...and it's crumbs, it can cause a terrible mess and attract bugs and rats. I loathe both things...and rats would chew at the book pages. Ugh, disgusting creatures...And if you did happen to bring a drink in, you could possibly spill it on a book and ruin it. That would be a shame since Hogwarts happens to have so many priceless books.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
--> No. With goofing off and playing around going on in the Library, students who come here for study time and homework preparation might not be about to concentrate, might not be able to retain information that they're reading...and could possibly write the wrong things down due to last of focus. Not only that...but it's ANNOYING when someone starts effecting the quality of your schoolwork. There is a place for drama and it's Hogsmeade during a Hogsmeade weekend... or during History of Magic class. |

No because the library is a place of reading and learning and should be taken care of. (Especially the books they've been here for years... Very, very delicate...) Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
Learning because it's a library... If they want to do drama they can go to the room of requirement or the grounds... Some people just need a place to study without being interrupted.

No. Books could get pumpkin juice spilled on them or oil stains on them, which is very bad for the book.

Learning. There are high-quality books in the library that you would probably not see in any other places, while books would be useless in drama.

No, you shouldn't be allowed to eat anything you'd like inside the library, although I still believe certain types of foods and/or drinks should be allowed in. For food obviously not the fatty/greasy ones. Perhaps a list with things allowed inside the library would help because whilst studying, going to the great hall to get food or something to drink is a massive distraction as people can get caught up talking to friends/forget what they were just working on.
Water at very least should be acceptable, and then also foods that aren't as likely to make a mess should be tolerated inside the library. Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why):
The library is supposed to be a center of learning, the etymology of which dating back to two Latin words: liber, meaning book/paper/parchment as well as librarium, meaning chest of books.. Therefore the library is a place of learning, as its meaning is essentially; book.

No. Food and drink stain. Also food = wrappers. People will leave wrappers around. Food and drink stick. Only water should be allowed. Some people are hyper sensitive to noise and someone chewing disturbs them, also some kids cannot concentrate with other things going on like eating. Also many books in this librabry are ancient and delicate. No one also like knowing what the last reader ate, Also food attract insects, which in turn also eat paper, (fish moth etc).
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why). Learning. Library i meant o be a place of learning. Yet there can be interaction between people and there can be drama, yet it should not be the main focal point. As many people prefer to work in the library atmosphere - no destractions etc, drama may defeat the purpose. Also some people cannot concentrate when other things are going on.

No ofcourse, well it may damage the books, which destroys the beauty of them and also ruins the reading experience for others not only themselves, also it could be a distraction to other student's trying to learn, if someone is rustling with a wrapper it causes a distraction to another student reading.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
A center for learning, if drama is to be had it should be taken out somewhere else, the library is a peaceful quite sanctuary for those wishing to study and stay away from drama. Learning is extremely important and should be taken very seriously, and drama is very distracting to those trying to focus.
Thank you.

Of course. I always get really hungry when I am studying, and I feel that food helps me concentrate a bit more. Obviously the food can't be really messy food because we don't want the books to get messy. But I feel people just need to be careful to make sure that they don't get the books messy. Maybe a zone where you are able to eat and study could work so that people don't have to feel that have to eat.
I think people may disagree but I don't think it's very nice to make people not be able to use the library just because they want to eat. Maybe sweeties or something little and not very messy could be work. Because it's help people concentrate but not get books messy.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why)
I think it depends on what drama you mean. Drama related to learning would be good. Because using acting is a good form of learning as it helps us to remember stuff that has happened. But if the drama isn't related to learning then it wouldn't be very good. and I don't like people making lots of drama in the library because I like learning there. So if the drama is related to learning then it is okay, but if it's shouty drama then it is not very good and shouldn't happen in the library.

Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why) Learning, because scientific studies show that just being in the presence of books helps enhance your brain power and learning abilities. Also, drama is simply a distraction for yourself and for others around you and should be kept to the dorms or somewhere else.

Should you be able to drink and eat anything you like in the library? (Yes/No, explain why) No I do not think it should necessarily be freely allowed in the library seeing as stains and spills from food and drink pose dangers to furniture and materials even if some may magically protected against such incidents. Plus one can easily eat elsewhere before or after their time in the library and it shouldn't be the responsibility of library staff to deal with any trash/messes a student or group might be tempted to leave behind.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why) It should be a center for learning because drama runs the risk of trouble and distruption to others. There are plenty of other places around the castle and school grounds where personal things and issues can be dealt with and the library should be treated with the respect of a classroom.

With food comes wrappers and crumbs, which are not conducive to a library environment and to the books inside it. Also some people cannot concentrate with someone chewing in their ear.
Is the library supposed to be a center for drama or learning? (pick one of them, explain why): Learning. A library is good for student to learn it. It's environment is conudcive to the study atmosphere. There are no destractions there. NEWTS and OWLS can be studied for in here, as well as homeowrk can be done. A library was originally meant for learning and so it should remain that way.
