As you enter the History of Magic classroom you notice that shockingly nothing has been moved around or changed. Each desk has been left in exactly the same state it had been in the year before. However, a piece of parchment is left on each of the desks.
Up at the front of the classroom Professor Scabior leans on the front of his desk, and is lazily pointing to a large note, that is neatly written on the board behind him.
Quote:
Please write your name, year and house on the parchment. Each parchment is charmed to turn into a name plate so once you are finished lay it back on the desk.

Honestly, Stella had totally understood the possible reason why the younger Slytherin girl had added a little heart to her nametag, but in the same respect, being that obvious wasn't going to ge ther anywhere. Especially not if Professor Scabior had been dead serious about liking to take points, and she had a feeling he wasn't one to joke. It seemed most of the new professors, as she was assuming he was new, were on the stricter side. But still, she could see the reasoning, even if she wasn't about to do the same. That would just be something she'd keep to herself.
Either way, she'd held back on answering the first question. Enough answers were going around that she'd have risked repaeting someone else if she'd spoken anyhow. She raised her had for the second discussion point, however. There was an obvious name she could have brought up, and in fact she'd semi-unwillingly done so in Charms already, but she wasn't going to this time around. Even if she didn't have to explain it. She had another idea anyhow. "The Triwizard Tournament." There had even been on not too many years ago, so she was surprised nobody had said it earlier. They had to remember it. She did, even if she'd been a lot younger then.

Hm. Daphne thought for a moment before she raised her hand. "Severus Snape." He was an important person. Snape was the one who helped defeat Voldemort, didn't he?

They made them study it. Well..yes! That was true."Of course, they are evil and mean and force you to study History of Magic. That is correct...enough." He said dryly trying not to roll his eyes. The answer was alright as long as by "they" she meant the school board and not him. But he still wanted the class to be taken seriously.
"Good points from all of you! Very good reasons. Everett nodded. "As many of you staited, by reviewing the past we are able to learn from the mistakes that were made and never do them again. Or learn from the achievements that were made and build upon them."
Everett blinked. Well..that was a simple answer. But.."Correct. As simple as it may be."
"Bingo. Right. If we didn't learn about history would wouldn't be able to remember the vast amount of spells and why they were made and how." And knowing all that was important for spell work
Everett nodded his head again. He was starting to feel like a bobble head doll. "Correct! The magical world wouldn't be how it was today if we didn't know about the history behind everything."
"Miss Hollingberry. Mr. Uronen. Excellent points. By knowing our past were are able to form indiviual identities. As Well as knowing who 'we' the magical society are, as whole." Everett hoped that people were writing all these answers down.
Another person who seemed to understand! "Yes! Correct. And thank you for mentioning important figures as well." Some people seemed to forget that the people in history were just as important as the things they went through
"I couldn't have said it any better myself!" Well he could of, but that wasn't fair. He had a university degree. And the boy had explained quite well
"Shh! You are going to ruin the surprise." Dash said bringing his index finger to his lips. Or maybe she wasn't. You never knew with surprises.
"That is true." He nodded. They had to be fully informed. Well...some people had to be.
Really now? Everett blinked. "Two points from Slytherin house Miss Bunbury. I would think reading all of that book I lent you would make you realize why History is important. Either you take this class seriously or you can leave." Really. There was the door. Right at the back.
Alright? Sure. Everett nodded. He would accept that.
Alright, so he hadn't expected so many answers but they were all on track. "So most of you- well all of you. Seem to understand why we study history. Which is great. One thing? Just that? Well, that really was easy enough.
"House elf rights," Ryden stated as she raised her hand. Honestly it was the first thing that came to her mind. The fact that the food this year was anything BUT nice was one of the reasons for her foul tempers. Psht. During the first Hogsmeade weekend the blonde would go gorge herself on some normal, tasty meal. And then buy half of Honeyduke's.

This lesson was turning out to be really fun. Indiana was quite intersted in history, even more so in magical history. So much, that she had done a bit of reading before coming to hogwarts. She wanted to impress the teachers, sdhow that she was really interested in the subject. Indy smiled, thinking about an important person in history, she listened to the others before she raised her hand herself. She was a bit surprised that nobody had said what she thought. "Dobby the house elf." Surely he was very important.

She thought about the question asked by the professor...She had read quite a bit of the History of magic
She heard the various answers given by her fellow students. She raised her hand up and answered "According to me, invention of horcruxes is also an important moment." Though it was used in a foul way by the Dark Lord, it is still a great invention, isn't it?
Well, he liked simplicity in class. It made things much easier to understand, especially for a foreigner like him.
Moving on.
Raising his hand, João said "The first Quidditch match." He didn't exactly know when, where or who, but sure that was a great part of the wizarding society now. First things were always history.
Eino raised his hand. "Elizabeth I." And that was it... He certainly wasn't used to speaking so little in History of Magic classes, but the professor instructed them to just list it and everyone was following the instruction, so he wasn't going to be the one to disobey. Not him, not now, not ever. Plus, he liked to take away points, but Eino didn't really need that thought lingering on his mind to prevent him from breaking any rules. Still, he was very eager to talk about Elizabeth's influence as a magical monarch in the muggle world.

So she just continued thinking about other people that made a difference in the history of magic.

Penny thought for a moment about wizarding history and could really only come up with one name - but it was so obscure that maybe no-one remembered him at all....
"Peter Pettigrew", she added to the mix... and she had definite reasons behind her announcement.

Jez had just finished her note/nameplate, and charmed it to change colours. Jezabel Black - Jez
First Year
Ravenclaw - as you can probably tell
Yes, the last part was a bit pretentious, but Jez could live with that. She raised her hand at the teacher's question. "The establishment of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was an important moment."
Everett scanned the room quickly, taking in the number of students. Yeah. It seemed good. "WELCOME..." He said, his voice booming loudly. "...to History of Magic. I am Everett Scabior the new History of Magic Professor. I prefer to be called Professor Scabior and nothing else." His eyes fell upon the small girl who had addressed him by his first name. Yeah. That wasn't going to happen again. "Now I was in your position once. Long ago. And so I know that many of you think that History of Magic is a boring class. And it can be sometimes. Hopefully I can make it less boring, but if I can't and you start to sleep please try to hide your face behind a book or something to spare my feelings." Everett clapped his hands together loudly. Was that all that he had to say?
"Also please note that I like to take away points." He smiled. "Take that little bit of information anyway you want to." Hint. Hint.
"So I'm going to assume that we all know that History of Magic is the study of Magical History." That was in the name. People had to know! "But, can anyone tell me why is it, that we actually study magical history?"
OOC: CLASS HAS STARTED! Do not post your character late. And do NOT edit your posts with answers. Doing both will result in loss of points.
"Well, Professor Scabior, don't we study history of magic so we can further understand the spells and their uses in modern times?" Nate answered, as a question.
One moment in Wizarding History? Does the defeat of the Dark Lord counts? Oh, well. Better give it a shot! "The defeat of Voldemort." Answered Aiden casually. Yup. She said Voldemort instead of Lord Voldemort. Curious why her parents go crazy everytime she says his name without the Lord thingy.
Name an important moment or person in history, Jesifur gave it some thought she did't want to repeat what the other had said. They all got some major points in history covered already. Jesifur raised her hand anyway. When called upon she offered, " I realize it's an old kids story but my mom always told me it was based on history, the deathly hollows?" Jesifur cringed hoping the teacher would't totally discount her answer.
Right... let's see... an important moment or person in history... I should pick something interesting, the young Ravenclaw thought and looked around, hoping to come up with some good ideas. Listening to what everyone had said, she finally raised her hand, ready to say something. But what?Think... fast!, she told herself. 'Merlin?', she finally answerd. Everyone had pretty much named all the important people. Isobel raised her hand anyway and said; "Helga Hufflepuff." She was pretty important, and she wasn't sure if anyone had named her by name yet. Kurumi, the Gryffindor Prefect, had said the Founders of Hogwarts, but Isobel had gotten more specific. To the most awesome founder.
Violet thought for a moment about what she had read in her History of magic book and raised her hand. "Would Gellert Grindlewald be one." she said in a nervous voice fixing her name tag so the teacher could see it.
Name: Violet Anne Evans
Year: First
House: Hufflepuff
Only one?? But there were SO many! Aspen was carefully writing her name on her name card, allowing for some of the younger students to get the easy ones - like Dumbledore or Merlin. He'd said he LIKED to take away points? So she was taking extra care to be perfect.
SPOILER!!: Name Plate
Aspen Odessa

Aspen raised her hand slowly, as if she wasn't quite sure she allowed to take her tune yet. "Oswald Beamish."
Pixxi fixed her name plate so it was facing Professor Scabior better. It read:
Name: Natalie "Pixxi" DeSantis
Year: First
House: Gryffindor
She looked at the Professor, shifting uncomfortably in her seat because of the sleepiness that filled the air. She knew that History of Magic was suppose to be a boring subject, but honestly, she liked it. Her father had told her stories about the First and Second Wizarding War where a kid named Harry Potter had defeated the darkest wizard of all time, a man called Voldemort. She was hoping this was gonna be one of the first subjects the class would learn about so she could show the teacher that she in fact was interested.
'Why do we have to learn history of magic?' She thought for a long time. She slowly raised her hand and spoke slowly, trying to explain the best she could. "History of Magic is a very important subject because... We get to learn about our heritage and why we never reveal ourselves to Muggles. It's also important to learn about magical history as it helps us develope as witches and wizards. You know, learn from our previous mistakes and such." She nodded, satisfied with her answer. "Oh, it's also a good conversations starter for grown ups." She finished.

Aww. So Professor Scabior isn't fond of calling people by their names. And he was looking at her. Okay, that was really her. She just liked doing that, though she really ought to remember to ask permission first. And so, it was next on her mental note list.
So, one important person in the Magical History eh ?
Think. Think. Think. That was right. This person ought to be a very important one. "Bathilda Bagshot Professor Scabior." she said. It was odd having an answer that was very short, she wasn't used to this one. But as she had made an offense at the very start of class, then she shouldn't even bother thinking of questioning the Professor.
