It was a bitter-cold morning. The wind whirled and howled, rustling the leaves on the trees violently. Admittedly it probably wasn't the best day to have a lesson on the Schooner, in fact it would have been more appropriate in the spring time. But... the students would survive.
As you board the main deck of the Schooner you are confronted with an unexpected sight. It had been transformed to look like a makeshift classroom. Small desks and chairs had been arranged in rows across the deck, facing the front where Professor Bentley was standing, writing on the small blackboard there. Surrounding her was a row of ominous looking ...fish tanks? covered with sheets. An eerie bluish-green light emanated out from behind the sheets, casting a strange glow across the first two rows of desks.
Situated slightly off to the side was the largest tank. It was tall and tubular.
Once she had finished writing her message on the blackboard Professor Bentley stood off to the side of the deck waiting to greet the students as they arrived. She was full of energy and excitement, but contained this in order not to scare the students away.

Oh. The lesson was finished?.. Sighing, Thea place dher attendance card on top of her tank, and collected up her belongings.
Approaching the tank, Thea bent down to peer at the flower. It was pretty to look at, but she knew some facts about it. Shivering slightly, she was slightly glad it wasn't alive..
Smiling at the Professor, Thea turned to leave. 'Thankyou for the lesson, Professor!' She waved as she walked off the ship.

Moving to the front of the class she began her concluding speech... because with Seren it was always going to be a speech. Partially nerves but mostly excitement led her to ramble ecessively. "Ok class, I'm afraid we've come to the end of the lesson, so for those of you that have completed the task, well done and thank you... for those that havn't, you have one minute to quickly finish up anything."
She paused briefly to catch her breath- and give the students enough time to process what she had said.
"Please make sure you have your tanks- labelled and your attendence cards sitting on top of your desks."
This was very important.
"Now you may be dismissed, however I have one last thing to show you before you go," she said taking a few calculated steps towards the larger tubular tank- still covered. "First of all, know that you are all safe... the specimen I have here is deceased and is enclosed in unbreakable glass.. it is completely secure... it cannot harm you."
She made eye contact with a few students... offering them a small smile. No matter what she brought into the classroom she would always make sure the students safety came first.
Gripping the sheet covering the tank Seren gave it a hearty tug, letting the fabric fall away, unveiling one of the most glorious plants she had ever seen... and one of the most deadly. This specimen was submerged in a preserving liquid of light amber... and unlike the other specimens it was just floating lifelessly in the tank, its roots exposed.
The lacey fragile leaves almost appeared to be fluttering lightly in the liquid, bobbing up and down, all the while staying transfixed in the same place. A magical sight. The two foot tall specimen with three stalks and brilliant lacey flowers- not unlike the hybiscus glowed with an errie mix of vibrant colours. Shades of gold and silver flecked the leaves and stalks, tones of red and blue and green painted this stunning plant. Indeed all the colours of the rainbow reflected from its surface. "May I introduce to you... one of the deadliest plants known to wizardkind," she began as if introducing an old friend, ".. the Prayer Flower."
"Feel free to come up and have a look. If you have any questions regarding the lesson, now would be the time to ask."
Oh and on a side note. "Please keep your eyes out for the homework announcement on your commonroom notice boards, and also the herbology noticeboard....
Thank you... and I hope you all ejoyed todays lesson", she noticed that some of the students weren't shivering anymore.. that was a good sign. "We'll be indoors for the next lesson", she added with a smile.
OOC: If you haven't finished RPing the activity you may finish doing so but only in one post, so instead of breaking up the activity into 5 posts you will need to finish it in 1 regardless of how many you have left- hope this makes sense. Also if you have any questions or want to go up and see the Prayer flower you may do so. Otherwise if you wish to leave you may also do so.
Homework will be up tomorrow.

"Oh!" Tayla said in surprise as she heard Professor Bentley say they were finishing up. She quickly went to the back of the class and took the other things she needed. Back at her table, she hurriedly moulded the bottom end of her cutting into a small hole 5cm-deep in the clay and added the amount of sea water needed.
Then she turned and prepared the mooncalf solution. "Ew..." she said as she took the dung and mixed it with water. When it finally dissolved, she added a drop of the solution into her tank.
"Done," she smiled. "Phew!"
Tayla labeled her tank and made sure her attendance card was still on her desk then looked up towards the specimen Professor Bentley was showing the class. It looked quite beautiful. It also looked eerie and not as deadly as it seemed, but Tayla guessed that made it more dangerous than it really was. She wanted to have a closer look.
"Thank you Professor," Tayla said with a smile as she passed the professor on the way to the Prayer Flower. "Professor...how exactly does the Prayer Flower kill someone?"
Kyle took out a piece of parchment and labled her plant. Kyleigh Manning she wrote, and tucked it into a safe place. Putting away her parchment, quills, and ink in her bag she quickly turned to Professor Bentley.
"Thanks Professor Bentley" she smiled happily, her little eyes glinting with excitement. Yes, plants excited her. Anything excited her. An ant carying a leaf probably would have excited her. She was just exciteable today.
Turning, she didn't exactly realize it but she had left right after Simon. Coincidence? Maybe...or maybe she was just in that kind of follow the guy you like without realizing it mood.

Seriously, though, he needed to talk to Simon. One, Treyen had no idea what he was talking about. Two, he seemed to be sharing their goings with everyone except him! But now was not the time.
And not when he needed to hurry up and do whatever they had to do in Herbology. Which was way better than the tasks and instructions they had to follow from Vindictus.
Okay. First things first. Gloves. Because Dodson liked gloves, no? Perhaps the reason why Mugwort went missing was because he didn't have any gloves, and Treyen didn't want to be the one student gone missing. So, once he had his gloves on, the boy reread the instructions and decided to take one of the tanks first, not that he didn't want to listen to Bentley, because he'd follow the instructions, okay? He was just adjusting them slightly.
So, clay was on its way to the tank, and he made a mark that would allow him to measure those 30 cm. Good. He slowly added that, and then proceeded with the first instruction, which was cutting a little bit (if one called 20 cm little) from the original specimen. He was feeling awful by having to do that, really, and he was reminded by the first lesson ever with Dodson where he made them make jam. Well, he'd hated that lesson, and he wanted to be back in there, because cutting a piece of the coral felt wrong, even if it was done for a good cause.
Or...whatever.
He still took out his wand and cast a 'Diffindo', while very delicately cutting the coral, 20 cm of it, to be more precise.
Now he had to make a hole, around 5 cm deep, right? Okay. He actually used his glove-covered fingers to do this, which was not a problem, because he knew just how deep that could be, and he molded the cutting to that.
Water. No, wait, SEA water. He knew that, because the tanks said what it was, and he'd already read those. Either way, he added those 3 ltrs rather slowly. But was finished in no time, really, because now they had to add---oh, no, wait, they had to MAKE the solution.
Oh, then he wasn't done. Hehe.
A quarter ounce of Mooncalf dung + 700 ml of water. Mixing, mixing, mixing. And NOW he could add the Mooncalf Solution, yes?
Yes, now he could, so, with a dropper, he allowed one single drop to fall into his tank.
AND NOW HE WAS DONE.
They were supposed to add the tag they'd already made at the beginning of the lesson, right?
A flick of his wand was all he needed to do that. Good.

Well, Treyen took his gloves off, and put all his belongings away in his bag, before actually leaving the lesson, "Thanks for the class, Professor," he said, but added something else as he got closer to her, "Er, sorry about the talking, though, won't happen again," he shook his head. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.

Kimalia merely glanced at the specimen the Professor showed off. She smiled kindly, even though it didn't capture her enough to want to look closer at it.
She left her tag on the tank where she added her year as well before packing her things.

After packing her things she waved at the Professor on her way out, "Thanks for the lesson Professor, have a good day." And she was out the door headed for the notice board to see her homework assignment.
Just as Eino was packing his belonging and ready to return to the castle, the Professor announced a little surprise. When she unveiled the glass box Eino's eye's widened and sparkled like a starlit night. He ran to the glass box and got as close to it as possible, so close that his nose was touching it and he was getting tiny fingerprints all over it. "It's beautiful..." He was drooling. Eino would like to see it alive, especially in its natural habitat, but he was just glad to have the chance to see one so up close without the danger of dying. Question vomit was coming up. He couldn't help it. "Did you capture it? Where did you find it? How did you get it? How did you kill it? How do you keep it?" Eino was beyond himself, giddy with excitement. He couldn't take his eyes off of it all the while he continued to ask questions without even giving the professor a chance to answer. "Did it bite you? Did it try to kill you? Did you pray? Were there more? How many?" But the most important question of them all he left for last. "Does it have a name?" He liked naming his plants.
Selina listened to the Professor as she called the class to attention. Bentley said that she was closing down the lesson and that time was closing up. Selina sighed in frustration. She had not even finished her work yet. She had been too busy waiting to get the first sample. The tank had been so crowded she was one of the last to get to it. But she was pleased to hear that she could finish up quickly. So she looked down at her notes and began to work.
SPOILER!!: Notes
Take one of the small tanks and fill the bottom with 30 cm of clay.
Using your fingers mould the bottom end of the cutting into a small whole in the clay, about five cm deep.
Add 3 Ltrs of sea water.
Then finally add one drop of Mooncalf Solution.
She took one of the smaller tanks and measured out the clay in a cup to 30 centimeters. She checked it to make sure that it was the right measurements. It seemed off to her and it seemed to continue to decrease. So Selina took a look at the bottom of the cup and saw a hole. Quickly she grabbed a new cup, measured, and filled her tank with 30 centimeters.
Next Selina took her fingers and began to mold the sample she had extracted to fit in a 5 centimeter deep hole in the clay. She assumed this was for planting and she was right. Once it was in the thing was planted and seemed perfectly sound.
Then she added three liters of sea water to water the plant in the clay. It was an odd request but she did as she was instructed. Finally she added a drop, a singular drop, of Mooncalf Solution to the plant.
When it was all done she began to pack her things and smiled at the Professor on her way back to land, "Thank you ma'am. The lesson was great. Enjoy the rest of your day."

Then finally add one drop of Mooncalf Solution.
Nika sighed and looked around as her classmates moved about. This is why herbology wasn't one of her favorites. They always had to get around doing the messy stuff with dirt and risk dirtying clothes. She doesn't mind hard work and she's not very strict about cleanliness, but this stuff with gardening is just a bit much.
She read over her assignment sheet and looked it over twice before starting. Reading over the first bit she put on a pair of gloves just to be safe then looked at the instructions once more. She looked around and found the coral and decided where she would cut it off. She began to cut and although it took a little while she finished up with what looked like a 20cm long peice. Give or take a few cm whatever.
She looked at her instructions once more and then searched for one of those small tanks. Once she found one she began to fill it with clay. Again her measurements were probably off it didn't matter too much.... hopefully. When the clay looked like it had reached enough she stopped and watched it for a good five minutes to admire her work.
Right. Good enough.
Now moving on....
She glanced again at the instructions and made sure she understood them before starting the task. She took three fingers and poked the clay. She had to push hard to make the hole a good size for the cutting. It looked about the five cm deep. Hopefully the professor wouldn't mind if she was a bit off.....
Now for the sea water. She looked around to find it and finally spotted it. AHA! She got what looked like three liters according to her judgment and poured it over the clay. She watched it to make sure that it didn't look like she poured too much and then decided it looked like enough.
YAY! Last one!!!
PARTYYY!!!
One drop of mooncalf solution... whatever that is. Oh right. Water and dung. Joy.
Nika got the 1/4 ounce of mooncalf dung. EW. This is why herbology isn't her favorite. So right mooncalf dung and mixed it with the 700 milliliters of water. She watched as they dissolved together. Then she added one drop of the solution.
DONE!!!
SHe took off her gloves and made sure to make a mental note to scrub her hands. So maybe she didn't directly touch the dung with her hands, but still it was the thought.
Then she took her little tag and placed it in front of her tank.

'One of the deadliest plants known to wizardkind,' Zara repeated in her head. Wow. Cool. Zara wanted to come up front, but she was afraid she's gonna fall over and knock down the tank, if that was possible. She remained in her seat and squinted her eyes to see it clearly. Nearsighted, she was. A little. "Prayer Flower." Zara whispered to herself.
And class was nearly over since there were student coming up front to see the Prayer Flower so Zara couldn't see anymore from her seat. And the others were ready to go out of the ship and back on land--which was a good idea because she was almost on the verge of vomiting in the ship. Others were still asking questions, some were finishing their work as quick as possible, and the others were going to professor to say goodbye or maybe have a conversation or two.
Zara sleepily put her stuff back in her bag. Inks, quills, notes, and all that. She took one last look at what she has done. Her tank was with its label, including Zara's name and the attendance card on top of her desk. She was good to go. Before leaving, she went over to Professor, who was answering the questions, "Thanks for the lesson, professor," she smiled weakly. "Goodbye." She nodded and was about to turn and go safely back to land.

Those were all words that made Kurumi sink further and further down in her seat until her nose was on the edge of the table and her violet eyes were just barely peeking over. Professor Bentley's eyes met her's for a brief moment before the woman moved on to looking at other students. Kurumi was curious as to whether or not the specimen was really dead or not...what if it was only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive...and means that the specimen could just leap out and suck their souls out...or whatever it is it did.
Maybe it would just suck on their toes like those doctor fish do? Perhaps the danger is that they suck so hard that they suck ones toes off like a vacuum cleaner.

Kurumi half expected the body of some wild beast to be in the tank - but then she remembered that they were in Herbology and not Care of Magical Creatures. When the shock of seeing what could only be described as a glistening rainbow in the tank subsided, Kurumi pulled herself up from under her table and leaned forward a bit.
"D-D-Deadliest?!" Kurumi squeaked as she began tugging on her hair as her mouth gaped open like a fish gasping for air. Kurumi began flipping through her textbook when Professor Bentley mentioned the name of the plant and she suddenly wished that she hadn't when she began reading about it.
Dark humor...well...she was glad that witches and wizards were able to amuse themselves when they named it.
Slowly, and grabbing a piece of parchment for any potential note taking, Kurumi approached the tank, but didn't get too close. It could only be MOSTLY dead after all.
"P-Professor Bentley," Kurumi said eyeing the plant. "Besides the perhaps more obvious reason for its coloring, being that it attracts its...v-v-victims to it...are there any other purposes for its coloring? Like...it needed to be that way to pollinate or something. If such a process existed with aquatic plants.

She was about to leave the ship, but turned around and said.."Thanks for the lesson Professor Bentley"

Oh, even at the plant's deceased state, it was still beautiful. Heather approached the tank a bit so she could see well from the crowd. Her small figure was rather making it hard for her to have a look from the back.
and yes, she had some questions. She turned to the professor, once again tilting her head to her right like a curious child; it was a habit of hers. Most thought it was adorable. She'd say, what's so adorable about her asking? Naive.
"Uhm..Professor..." glad she wasn't stuttering as much anymore. "I was...wondering..." oh great, here comes the frequent pauses. Hope the professor's patient enough. "If it's...dead...is...is it still that deadly?...because...it's in an unbreakable glass....to keep everyone away from harm...uhm..also...uh...if someone touches it...do they die instantly...or...slowly...and how so?" ugh...so many questions...."a-and...why'd they call it the 'Prayer Flower'?" Ah, the origins of the name, fascinating backgrounds of such beautiful flowers, really.
Seren offere the girl a small smile. "It is secured merely to please the Headmaster, the plant in its current state posses no threat to anybody... but better safe than sorry." It really was better safe than sorry... strange things happened at Hogwarts, and she wouldn't be surprised if that strange thing happened to happen in her Herbology class... "The plants latin name is Kadevra Nigra.... but it is more commonly known as the Prayer Flower because if you were to come into contact with one in the wild... then you'd best say your prayers. Though I doubt they would save you. The Prayer Flower is extremely omnivorous, meaning it will feed on any flesh it comes into contact with. Human... animal... plant..."

One step left to go. Ariella made her mooncalf solution, measuring all of the ingredients carefully. She added exactly one drop and looked into her tank. It surprisingly looked okay. She stepped back and cleaned off her gloves and robes with a "Scourgify!". Then, she filled out her tag.

Ariella Adler
Was she finished? She supposed so. "Goodbye, Professor. Thank you for a great lesson!" she said as she took off her gloves.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it, have a good day", replied Seren brightly.

Tugging on her gloves efficiently, the Ravenclaw prefect flexed her fingers inside the smooth hide glad for its suppleness as she made her way, wand and ruler in hand, to the back of the deck.
Eyes following their movements, she observed as her fellow students as they took their cutting of the original, wondering if it’d be safer for the corral if she waited her turn rather than barging in there to take a cutting of where any was available. Yeah, waiting would probably be best. Wouldn’t want to damage the original.
Fishing the small parchment out of her pocket where the instructions for making mooncalf solution written, she eyed the growing line before shrugging her shoulders and turning back to her desk, taking a small container and some Mooncalf dung with her. She’d work on the solution for now.
Back at her workstation, Ivory pinned the piece of parchment to her journal and casted a quick Fixate to hold it at eye level. The better to see the instructions you see. Measuring out the Ľ ounce of Mooncalf dung in grams, Ivory stirred in the resulting a little over 7 grams into the 700 ml of water, continuing her stirring until little chunks weren’t swimming around and the whole contents were dissolved. Satisified with her Mooncalf solution, the Ravenclaw prefect made quick work of casting a few cleaning charms on the equipment she used and her gloves before moving back to the now only semi-crowded tanks.
Muttering under her breath as she circled the enclosure, Ivory peered into the water looking for a section of. ”No, too thin….too thick…The base doesn’t look very sturdy….AHA perfect!” Until finally she found a small part where the corral was still upright and healthy enough for her to take a cutting of.
Carefully measuring out the 20 cm and making a mental note where to cut, Ivory unholstered her wand and aimed accordingly. ”Diffindo.” Concentrating her intent on only severing the appropriate section, she watched happily as the clean break was made. Success! And no accidents. That was a total plus.
AgH! But how was she to transport said cutting….
Turning her wand on her safety goggles that were hanging in misuse at her hip, the Ravenclaw prefect brightened up at an idea. Picturing an opened ball in her mind’s eye, Ivory cast the charm she’d learned the previous term concentrating on absorbing seawater. "Mizurus Boru!" The safety goggles appeared to compact for a second coming in together, morphing and expanding into a useful open ended water ball perfect for holding a piece of corral while she went about her merry way of setting up a tank for it.
Setting the new rounded vase like container on her desk for the moment, Ivory turned to the next task at hand: Filling a new tank with clay. With a little reassuring tug to make sure her gloves were in place, she dug into the mound of clay scooping it up and patting it down into the smaller tank.
Handful at a time, she spread out the clay making sure the corners weren’t showing any gaps but it wasn’t packed enough that the corral would have problems taking root. Ruler in one hand, the Ravenclaw moved around the tank watching the steady rising progess and making sure one side of the tank wasn’t more packed than the other. Gloved fingers kneading through the clay, it wasn’t long before it was just right.
Summoning her rounded container, Ivory carefully maneuvered her corral into the tank, using her fingers to make a small depression that she expanded carefully into a hole about 5 cm deep. She even checked it with her ruler to make sure. With patient hands, the Ravencalw prefect packed the clay around its base before stepping back to admire the progress. So far so good.
Exhaling a small breath of air that had her bangs flying out of her face, she moved onto the next step. Deciding to use a small ladle rather than magic to add the three liters of sea water to her tank, Ivory diligently poured the sea water. Sure it took her a while but better slowly so as not to disturb or erode the corral. Besides she could always trade arms if one got tired.
Sometime later, a little over 101 water filled ladles later, the tank was finally ready. Stretching out her arms as she walked over to her desk, Ivory retrieved her previously prepared mooncalf solution. Eyeing the instructions, she inserted one pipette into the murky dissolved mixture. With a small squeeze of the dropper, she watched the one lonely drop fall into her tank hopefully it was enough to allow the corral to flourish and help in recolonizing its species.
Writing her name on the tag provided, Ivory attached it to her tank making sure to center it on her desk. There all done.
Taking a few moments to cast a few cleaning spells on her area and her gloves and cast Finite on her fixated journal, Ivory made her way to where everyone was crowded at the front. With a start, her eyes went wide and she resisted the urge to run forward and press her nose against the glass like a little kid.
It was so pretty! But no, also dangerous. Nodding her head with the others' questions, Ivory turned to the professor with a question of her own. "Professor, if the specimen is deceased does that mean that coming into contact with it is still fatal?" Even when it was dead?? Her curiosity peaked, the Ravenclaw prefect brought out her journal once again and began to sketch it. Not very well mind you, but just so she could research it later.
"No... its just a precaution," an unnecessary one... but as long as the Headmaster was happy. "It's fatal because of its... umm... tendancy to devour any flesh it has access to... so being deceased, it no longer has an appetite." Well she hoped.

He went to the back of class where everything was located and followed the instructions. He was careful to get only 30 cm -- he'd heard the professor chiding another student for using too much.
He turned to the board, reading the instructions to see if he could go back to his desk or if he still needed something back here. Mold the bottom end of the cutting into a small hole in the clay about 5 cm deep. Alright, sounded easy enough. He carried the tank back to his desk to have somewhere sturdy to put it. He carefully poked a hole in the clay, estimating about 5 cm. Then he gingerly picked up the cutting and placed it in the hole. He molded the clay around the bottom to make sure it would stay. Alright, that step was cake. Next step?
Add 3 liters of sea water. Okey-dokey. He carried the tank back to the back of the class where the supplies were. He measured out the 3 liters and poured the sea water into the tank. Aw, the coral kinda looked happy. Yay!
Last step was making the mooncalf solution and putting it in. The instructions were on his desk, so he made the trip with the tank yet again. The solution sounded pretty easy. It was just made of dung and water. He could manage that. He left the tank on his desk this time, figuring these two things would be easy enough to carry back. He went to the back of the class again and took what he needed (while wishing that dung wasn't included in that list -- gross!). Once he was back at his desk, he mixed the dung and water together to make the solution. Once it was all uniform and dissolved, he looked to the board to see what the last step was after this.
Add one drop of mooncalf solution. Alright, that's fine. Lucas carefully held the solution over the tank and added one drop. That was the scariest part -- he was scared he would spill it or something, but everything turned out surprisingly well.
Aw, and look at the coral! It was so psyched to be repotted. Aww, yeah. Saving ecosystems? Yeah, Lucas could do that. He picked up the tag that had materialized on his desk and wrote his name on it quickly.
He figured he may as well add his house. Props to Gryffindor for saving endangered coral! Okay, okay, the other houses had helped, too. But still. He secured the tag to his tank, then gathered the rest of his stuff. He left the specimen on his desk as the professor had said to do. "Thanks, professor!" He waved and smiled as he left the ship. A lesson on a cool ship and singlehandedly (okay, not really singlehandedly) saving an entire species. Awesome.
"Bye, have a good day."
It was so nice to see students were leaving happy.

With a furtive look around the class, she kept to the edges as she crept closer to the dead yet remarkable plant.
Hmm. She'd have to remember to add a plants' encyclopedia to the list she was sending to her dad to buy her. Of course, his secretary would be the person buying and shipping the books and little presents, but the mailing address was still Father.
"Does the plant grow individually, spaced out, or does it dominate a large area of the sea bed? A field of prayer flowers, so to speak," she asked, making sure to be RIGHT BY the professor and kept her head well down. For once, being short was a good thing - the professor would have to almost kneel to be able to see her face right now.
Seren beamed as another student joined their little circle around the tank. It was quite captivating. "They usually grow in colonies of around thirty to forty plants... but occasionaly they drift apart is rough currents and reroot themselves elsewhere, starting a new colony."
"They're only found where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean."

700 ml water

"It devours them", she replied bluntly... then suddenly realising how awful and disturbing it sounded, she added, "they're omnivorous, so they eat any flesh they can- including plant flesh... and human flesh." Hhmmm yep.

Good.
Lesson over, yes?
Well, Treyen took his gloves off, and put all his belongings away in his bag, before actually leaving the lesson, "Thanks for the class, Professor," he said, but added something else as he got closer to her, "Er, sorry about the talking, though, won't happen again," he shook his head. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.
And then he was out. Out of the ship, that is.
Seren eyed the Hufflepuff prefect... "I'll be holding you to that", she said with a smile. "Have a good day Master Lockhart."

Seren grinned brightly as the enthusiastic Claw bombarded her with a billion questions.. she could barely keep count of how many he had asked. "Ah.. eehhh... well I didn't have anything to do with it's capture, but from my understanding it had died through natural causes, sort of like when we age... then a team of herbologists who are tracking the movements of a particular colony were able to capture it. They are a highly skilled team of witches and wizards, so I'm sure they did so in a safe manner."
Oh if only she could have been there to see it. How amazing. "It doesn't have a name... umm.. would you like to do the honours?" asked Seren, noticing the boy liked to name his plants. Not a bad trait, she quite liked it. Though she hadn't tried it herself. She was the type to sing to her plants... not name them.

"Oh I'm glad you enjoyed it, have a good day dear", grinned Seren.

With that being done she looked over at her professor and gave her a smile. "Thanks for the lesson! It wasn't that gross." She said with a chuckle.
Seren smiled at the girl and gavce her a small wink. "I'm glad you approved, have a good day", she said... really she had planned the lesson with as little gross or scary stuff as she could. She didn't want to scare off all the students in her first lesson.. unfortunately with herbology there came a lot of dung....

Deceased? Unbreakable glass? Secure?
"Unfortunately we don't know enough about the plant to be able to say for sure... though it seems unlikey. Because of the intense nature of the plant the primary reason- if there is any other at all is simply to entice its prey."
Yep... super deadly.. yet super beautiful. If it was alive it would be hard to look away... and run.
OOC: I will be closing this thread in approximately 28 hours.
"It devours them", she replied bluntly... then suddenly realising how awful and disturbing it sounded, she added, "they're omnivorous, so they eat any flesh they can- including plant flesh... and human flesh." Hhmmm yep.
"D-devours them?" Tayla shuddered, looking at the plant. "Right..." she shook her head as if trying to erase an ugly memory.
"Well, thanks for the class, Professor Bentley," Tayla said as she took her bag and left the ship. "Where's Josh..." she thought on her way out, suddenly remembering his strange behaviour today. "Might be in the common room...I hope he's okay..."
Oh Merlin... the boy wasn't a closet dark wizard in the making was he?... though she couldn't help but smirk at the mention- or almost mention of Lafay. She could see how the Professor could strike fear into her students hears and thus envoke hatred. Still she thought the woman was alright.
Now... Simon... "... I'm not a dark wizard and I do not wish harm on anybody," almost... but she wouldn't tell him that, "... and as for using a Prayer Flower to do your bidding... well you just let it do its thing. It will eat any flesh is has access to... hence why you should say your prayers should you come across the plant... alive."
Simon smiled at the Professor. "I wasn't saying you were a dark wizard, though miss you would be a dark witch if you were one." Simon said truthfully or didn't she know that. "So what your saying is if that was too come out of there now it would go for us all?" Simon wanted to make sure he was understanding what she said, because if that was all maybe she would let him take it and put it in Lafay's office, though he wasn't going to say that too the Professor. "If so THAT IS ONE COOL PLANT." Simon said excitedly. "Can I borrow it so I can research it?" Simon asked.

"No problem, I hope you enjoyed it", she said watching as the girl gathered her things and left the ship... Seren hoped she hadn't scared her off the subject.

"I'm well aware that I am a witch Simon... I believe you were the one calling me a wizard"... now this was getting confusing. Was he serious? thought Seren rolling her eyes a little as she observed the Prayer Flower. "No it wouldn't attack us... it's dead remember", she said smiling. As if she would be allowed to bring a live one to the class. Tate would have her thrown out of the school before she could say Merlin. "And no I'm afraid you may not borrow it... dead or alive. If it interests you then perhaps you should think about a profession in the field of herbology. There are a whole host of plants out there with mystical and unique properties."
After cleaning her desk and packing her belongings, Aiden approaches Professor Bentley."Will you keep one of those in the school?"she asks calmly while glancing at the Stubby Purple Coral. Aiden finds the plant somehow... Fascinating.

Simon smiled evily at the Professor. "I don't remember calling you a wizard I just said what would happen if a dark wizard used one, doesn't mean that your one." Simon looked at her, maybe she was a Dark Witch and if she was then well he would find out. "Oh yeah." Simon looked sad when she reminded him it was dead.
"Okay then Professor can you at least tell me where in the world they?" Simon smiled. "Say someone brought a live one into school what would happen to them?" He thought it would be fun. "So your saying that there are plants just as deadly as this one?" Simon asked. "Cool maybe I will go into that field when I leave school, though I was thinking of being a Quidditch Player." Simon ran upto the Professor and hugged her. "Can you tell me what qualifications you need?" It didn't mean he had too do it did it.
Eino listened attentively to the Professor's answers but still very much glued to the glass. Occasionally, he would take a step back and use his robe's sleeve to wipe the fog that he created by breathing so close to it. He would love to go on expeditions and study plants all over the world, but that would leave little time for pogrebin hunting and fairy breeding, so he couldn't afford to. Plus, he wouldn't even know how to, regardless of how much he wanted to think he did. "Oh my buttons! Would I?!" He explained jumping in excitement when the professor offered for him to name the plant. One last time he took a step back, wiped the glass, and took a good look at the plant for a short distance. This would take a great amount of consideration. "Hmmm..." He scratched his chin as he thought. "What about Touni?" He shouted, jumping and tossing his hands in the air.
Aurora completed her specimen and attached the tag with her name on.

I mean, muggles must come across it sometimes. Or is it really rare?" She asked the professor. The teacher had talked about the plant like she knew a lot about it and admired it so Aurora assumed she'd know.

Seren turned her attention to Aiden breifly, though still observing the Prayer Flower out of the corners of her eyes. Was she talking about the Prayer Flower?... no she was looking at the Coral. "Oh.. no I'm afraid we wont be. They have a stronger chance of survival in their natural habitat, as opposed to being cooped up in a tank in the school."And the lake wasn't an option...

They boy looked strangely disappointed that the plant was... dead. This wasn't a good sign. But Seren shrugged it off. Boys will be boys, and they did like morbid things at this school by the sounds of it.
Ahhh he did seem interested. "Yes, the Prayer Flower can be found where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean.... the waters there are ideal for them to grow." She would have to go on an expedition there one day, maybe.
Oh Merlin!... a live one? "I'd say that would probably never happen... firstly it takes a team of skilled witches and wizards to capture an ill or deceased specimen, but to obtain a live one is virtually impossible. They are ruthless, violent, dangerous plants... its not a travelling companion. Also I imagine the Ministry as well as the Headmaster would not approve of the presence of a live specimen at the school." Nope absolutely not... it was hard enough getting this one through the front gates.
Considering the boys interest in herbology seemed to develop around ... dangerous and fatal plants, his next statement didn't do anything to ease Seren's mind. Children should not be this interested in dangerous plants... for the purposes of killing. "Yes... I suppose you could say that. But there's more to herbology than just dangerous plants," not that she could talk, what with her fascination with plants of the flesh eating variety.
"Ahh quidditch, not a bad career choice, but you need to stay at the top of your game...." Oh Merlin!!! What was this! the boy was hugging her now?!
Seren stood there awkwardly as the wrapped his arms around her...
What in the name of Merlin was she going to do?!
Clearing her throat loudly Seren pulled herself out of the boys grasp, patting him gingerly on the shoulder. "Er... umm.. well you uhh.. don't really need any qualification to begin your training to be a herbologist. I started by travelling, on my own at first, then teaming up with other herbologists, sort of like an apprenticeship. They'll show you the ropes. Then there is always university, a Bachelor Degree in Herbology is always a good place to start."

Seren couldn't help but grin as the Ravenclaw delighted in the opportunity to name the plant. "Touni... I like it", she said approvingly as the boy selected one.
It actually suited the specimen quite nicely.

"Ahh good qustion", said Seren somewhat grimly. "Unfortunately there are a number of hunans- muggles and wizarding alike, that have their lives taken by this phenominal plant. It is in a sense... unplottable. Tracking its movements let alone keeping it isolated is extremely difficult. The plants roots are only embedded into the sea floor in a very shallow manner, so whenever it wants to move out or relocate or even in a strong current, it is easily uprooted and then reroots itself elsewhere."She sighed. "It's been causing headaches for the Ministry and herbologists for centuries."

It really was better safe than sorry... strange things happened at Hogwarts, and she wouldn't be surprised if that strange thing happened to happen in her Herbology class... "The plants latin name is Kadevra Nigra.... but it is more commonly known as the Prayer Flower because if you were to come into contact with one in the wild... then you'd best say your prayers. OOC: I will be closing this thread in approximately 28 hours.
And to think Heather thought this plant was just poisonous, IT EATS FLESH! EVEN HUMANS! Her eyes grew wide of shock and terror and she looked back at the majestically beautiful plant-it did not really look like one that would eat a person alive, but there is a saying that goes, never judge a book by its cover; the plant is deadly, even prayers alone, as what Professor Bentley already said, CAN'T save anyone in the clutches of this plant...clutches....wait a second...
as gruesome to think of it, it was interesting to know, how this plant feeds. "uhm...professor..." she called. "h-how does it feed...when it comes in contact with anything it wants to eat?" does it have some sort of vines to tackle and pull the prey in or it shows its big mouth and snaps like a Venus flytrap?
knowing about this plant's 'eating' preferences, Heather took one last glance at the eerily pretty plant, thinking, it was really the best, deceased or not, to have the plant enclosed and secured tight in an unbreakable tank; stranger things have happened, and she hoped one of those strange things is for the plant to suddenly come alive, looking for a snack.

She had been waiting for this question to come up... and she didn't particularly want to answer it. It wasn't a pretty one, Merlin! the girl already looked scared enough. Sighing Seren braced herself to tell the girl the truth... after all she wasn't the type to withhold information, especially when it would help her students understand the dangers of these very pretty and exotic plants.
"Well see... here", she said pointing at a knot where the plants limbs grew up from, "in this crevis here.. is where its mouth is, but don't worry too much about the mouth- it doesn't have teeth or fangs."
And now it wasn't going to get much better. "When it attacks, it uses thin vines which proppel out from within its growth.. somewhere beneath the leaves, grabbing the victim and dragging it in. Don't be decieved by its compacent look and its shallow roots, its mighty powerful. Its leaves are used sort of like razors to hack away at the flesh so that its in managable bite size pieces..." she hoped this wasn't scaring the girl too much. ".. then it essentialy shovels it into its mouth. They're sort of like animals... or boys," she mused "they don't chew... hence why they have no teeth."
Hhhmm perhpas that was enough for one day. Looking down at her pendant watch she let out a small gasp... Merlins beard! was that the time already. She turned her gaze to the students still standing around the tank.
"Ok you lot, as much as I would love to stand here an chat all day I'm afraid I have to pack up ship,".. yes she said a lame joke, ".. and I'm sure you all have classes to get to."
She began to banish the tanks back to her office.... saving the prayer flower for last.
Seren still had to make sure all the students tanks were tagged and sent back to the storeroom beside the greenhouses. They will need to be sent back ASAP...
"Thank you for coming, and staying, I hope you enjoyed today's lesson", she chimmed as she hurried the students along.
After ushering the students off the Schooner Seren released a small sigh, then banished the desks and chairs to where they had come from. The ship felt eerily empty without them. Shrugging this thought off Seren made her way back to her office... time to deal with those Coral...
