Was it just her or did it seem as though half of the students were ill? Perhaps a lesson on the ship wasn't such a good idea... even though it was pretty cool and exciting. Shame. SPOILER!!: Potion Catalyst Quote:

Despite the curse she had felt her eye color had brought her, Kurumi had always liked the color purple. Perhaps that had been her father's doing. He had always told her that violet was a color of royalty and that she should be proud that she had such a color naturally. "I suppose that this implies that the coral is rich in calcium and vitamin D." At least, she thought she had read somewhere that those lead to speedy recoveries. Quote:

Still, she had to answer for the sake of everything she had promised herself. "Uh, it can be used in speeding up properties reactions in making potions."
Seren nodded, "Yes one of the uses of Stubby Purple Coral is indeed to speed up the property reactions in potions, particularly ones which require more time to mature." It was incredibly useful in that sense. SPOILER!!: Cleaning Serums Quote:

She loosened her scarf, so that her face wasn't constricted by the scarf, not minding if it was cold or not, and heard just in time, the next plant that professor Bentley introduced. It was a rare plant called Stubby Purple Coral and wow-it looked so pretty...but sadly endangered. WHY??
just then, Heather remembered reading about such plant; still hesitant, but wanting to recite, she raised her hand politely. "Professor..." she took a deep breath. "Stubby Purple Coral...is a used as...uhm...a main ingredient in magical stain removal serums...b-because it's the most effective in cleaning off d-dragon blood stains..." Quote:

Anyway, what is it used for? "It is one of the primary ingredients in some magical stain removal serums and really effective in removing dragon blood stains," the girl said after she raised her hand. And she knew this from her grandmother. Hehe.
Seren clapped her hands together in approval, "Yes! now this is one of the reasons why the Stubby Purple Coral is currently endangered. Because of its remarkable abilities in cleaning and stain removal it has been over harvested for long periods of time and it hasn't been able to reproduce quickly enough." Honestly... why couldn't people just clean the old fashioned way... a bit of wandlore and elbow greese never hurt anybody. SPOILER!!: Health: Metabolism & Recovery Quote:

Looking directly at the Evelyn, Bissy caught her eyes. She looked towards Josh and then, back at Ev. The blonde girl narrowed her eyes with an evil grin and smirked. Knowing Ev was sad had been a source of joy for Bissy. *grin*
Bissy listened to the professor carefully but she lost her concentration to some extent. Professor was okay, the class was okay (Flores was an exception of course), but the subject was a bit booooooring. However, she had to adapt herself to the lesson. She eyed the tank; it was a very nice shade of purple, which was Bissy’s favourite colour. The task was not a hard one, though. She would probably handle it. She raised her hand to answer the Professor’s question and said: “It can be consumed in small potions to lose weight, Professor and you can use it to treat metabolism disorders.” Hoping that was true she folded her arms and lokked at the Professor. Tayla raised her hand again. She wanted to get something right this time. It was a perfect opportunity, too, because her mother was a healer. She'd heard about this particular plant. "Stubby Purple Coral can be used to improve a person's circulation and increase metabolism." "Yes the thrid primary use of Subby Purple Coral is relevant to the medical field. The advancements in medicine have also contributed to the decline of this particular plant. As you have identified, it is useful for speeding up ones metabolism and increasing recovery time." Quote:

She had a lot of learning to do when it came to this subject. Thanks to Kurumi she had read a whole book on Herbology this summer but theoretical knowledge meant nothing without practical application.
"Ma'am I know that the stubby purple coral that they are aggressive and carnivorous to zoo plankton and the like. So perhaps they are used to cleanse certain ecosystems of pests?" It was a thought. Seren grinned. "Yes, that is true, each and every plant and animal co-exist in a sensitive ecosystem, the Stubby Puprle Coral certainly playes a big part in its own ecosystem, particularly the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem found on the coast of Australia." "Umm... the plant does not pose any particular threat to the harvester, however because of its current status as an endangered species you would be in danger of prosecution and imprisonment by the appropriate Ministry Authority." This experience would never have been possible otherwise. "I do believe its Latin name is Coral Acropora Tenuis," He said with this hand raised, "and, in addition to what everyone else has said, this plant also supplies strontium, which aids bone growth." Although, strontium was only beneficial if taken in small doses, otherwise it could he harmful, which was probably way it wasn't used in Skele-Gro. Well, that and because it was extremely rare and difficult to maintain. "Bravo!... take a point for Ravenclaw."Such a brilliant response deserves praise, thought Seren as she grinned with pride at the yound Ravenclaw. She could see the excitement in the boys eyes, it was nice to see. Quote:

House:Hufflepuff "H-Hello Professor Bentley." Tara said in a scared yet excited voice. Not another one... Seren sighed, her brows furrowed in slight annoyance. Not onyl had the Hufflepuff disrupted her class but she had also missed most of it... "You're late," she said stating the obvious. "Minus 3 points... however you're welcome to participate in our activity."
Now it was time to get down and dirty with the sponge! Seren's favourite part of the lesson was about to begin. While she felt theory was important it was always good to give the students the opportunity to work with the plants which make up such an important part of their world. And particularly in this lesson. Provided everything went smoothly they would each play a part in recolonising this maginificant species.
Striding over to the blackboard Seren whipped out her wand and gave it a tap. Instructions instantly materialised on its surface. Quote:

Add 3 Ltrs of sea water.
Then finally add one drop of Mooncalf Solution. Seren then returned to the front and centre of the class. "Right, instructions are on the board. I suggest you read them thoroughly. You will find that the tanks, clay, sea water and mooncalf dung are at the back of the... class..." Seren gestured to a pile of tanks that had materialised at the back of the ship with a simple flick of her wand. "When you come up to collect your cutting, you may either use one of the silver knives I have here at the front or you may use the severing charm 'diffindo', however if you are not profficient at using this charm then I suggest using the knife... only because of the fragility of this specimen." Seren surveyed the students. "Remember to take great care when working with the Coral, it is endangered. With any luck you will all have played an important role in securing it a longer future." "Instructions for making the mooncalf solution will be found on your desks."With another flourish of her wand, small sheets of paper materialised onto the students' desks. Quote:

Seren began to move around between the desks in case any students required assistance. She would keep a close eye on them when they got their cuttings... "Don't forget, safety first, gloves need to be worn." OOC: This is the practical. For full participation marks you will need to RP this activity in 5 posts. Each post must be titled with the appropriate instruction. Have fun with this. The thread will be open for another 24 hours and will be reassessed at the end of that period- see how we go. All the usual rules apply. Happy RPing!
