Default Potions Laboratory

The Potions Laboratory

Sixteen tables are set up with two stands and burners that adjust to fit your cauldron no matter what size it may be. This is where students can practice brewing any potions they may wish to brew. Along the walls are shelves with every piece of equipment a potioneer would want, flasks, funnels, phials, stirring rods, etc... A closet nearby was filled with many items that students may find useful, extra cauldrons, extra textbooks, extra dragon hide gloves, protective goggles and protective coverobes.

On the board at the front of the room is written in white chalk:

Rules:

  • Clean up your own mess. I am your professor, not your mother.
  • Be safe. I don't want to have to explain why there is a stirrer lodged in your eye when we have plenty of protective goggles to go around. If you do not know what you are doing, stop and check your work. Please refrain from causing any explosions or fires. As I already said, I am not your mother, I will not clean up after you.
  • Be sure you succeed in your potion making. If you waste my ingredients I will charge your parents for them.
  • Do NOT, under any circumstance, test your potions on school mates... no matter which house they are from!
  • Do not bother me. I am a busy professor, I will come to you if I think you are experiencing problems.
ooc: THIS ISN'T A CLASS. This thread is just for roleplaying and having fun. It will remain open all term long. Please remember that even though Professor Lafay is not a very nice person, I am. Feel free to PM me with any questions and any problems that you may have. As my predecessor did, if your character is addressing the professor in this lab, please put PROFESSOR LAFAY in the subject line of your post. This will facilitate my response to you.

Was he nervous to be around her or something? Looking back on it, she couldn't think of any reason he might be nervous around her.

Well, she had cast him a few glares, but really, she did that to everyone. "Oh," she said, when Treyen mentioned dating Ellie and then asking her to be his girlfriend. She sort of blushed ever-so-slightly and then looked away for a few seconds. She absentmindedly watched to Ravenclaws she didn't even know as they did...something. "That's good then."

She shrugged. She was asking, because she had a crush on him, but she'd never be able to tell him that, especially not now. "I was just seeing what you'd been up to lately. That's all." Topic change, please. "Good seeking skills, by the way."

A soft thud noise coming from the other side of the room caught Sierra's attention. She looked up to see that Lafay had put her bat across her desk. When had that happened? Maybe that's what made Treyen so nervous. She gave her Head of House a small smile before looking back at Treyen. She also made a mental note not to give Lafay a reason to pick up that bat.

Okay, Treyen, stop glancing towards Lafay. He was practically making a fool of himself for doing so, not to mention that he may call on Sierra's Head of House attention. And he didn't intend to.

So, he stopped his nonsensical glances to Lafay, and focused on Sierra alone. Just in time for her reply. "Yeah...," was he going to add something to that? "...I suppose?" why was that any good to Sierra? It was good for someone, he just didn't know who. Silly boy. It was good for him if he ever asked Ellie and she said yes. But he wasn't asking yet. Nope.

His eyes didn't leave her, not even when she eyed the two Ravenclaws who were working on a Potion whose name escaped his ears. And, oh, she was just catching up? He didn't know she was aware of Ellie in the first place. But, good to know she was keeping track of him? Why didn't he think that was odd? Because she'd mentioned Quidditch, and he chuckled, "Just because there's a Beater that takes out the wrong Seeker," he winked, not feeling nervous anymore. Sierra just seemed...nicer, somehow.

"Seen any other Hufflepuffs lately?" he was about to say 'Conan', but decided against it.

Since Sierra was the one to look Lafay's way, he had to. And regretted it. THAT bat was at the table now, and Treyen instantly looked towards Sierra. Lafay and that bat...scary sight.

"I hope you're not planning on taking me out with that bat," yeah, Sierra, we're talking to you. Or whispering, actually.

"I hope you're not planning on taking me out with that bat," yeah, Sierra, we're talking to you. Or whispering, actually.
Sierra gave a very light laugh and then looked down toward her lap. Nothing was there but her lap, but it was only a distraction anyway. "Yeah, I...get sort of brutal out there on the pitch," she said. She looked back up and, with a smirk, added, "I show no mercy. Not even toward the seekers." It was really only light banter, though. She'd suddenly found herself in a nervous state while talking with Treyen, so she made a mental note that when she got back to the common room tonight, she'd need to do a lot of thinking.

Her eyes narrowed inward so that she was giving him a confused-looking facial expression. "I see Hufflepuffs all the time in classes," she answered. Really? What sort of question was that? A confusing one, that's what. "Why?" ... "Have you seen any other Slytherins lately?" It was the only question that made sense to her after the one he'd asked.

She followed Treyen's glance to Lafay. Wait. "Huh?" she asked. "You hope I'm not planning on taking you out?" That'd been what she'd heard, at least. Maybe he'd been saying something to Lafay, though, and she'd just misunderstood. "Taking you out where?" Either way, she pulled out her parchment from last term and showed it to him. "You got anything new since last term?"

Of course, Leo had included a couple of owl treats in his package. she pulled two out, and fed them to the large owl as a thank you. Sticking the letter in her pocket, she tured to Gwen. "You want a chocolate frog?" she asked. "My brother just sent me this huge box, and there's no way I'm going toeat it all on my own."

Presley giggled as Gwen looked genuinly (sp?) scared of the owl. Presley turned back to her potion, set her box on the counter, and stirred clockwise.
Gwen finished with the potion! ‘Ah,yes’, she said, sounding pleased. ‘Yesyes’, she mumbled. ’Murky white in appearance’, just like I hoped to see it… Fine, well let’s clean up this mess. Oh, no- I’m not going to spend so much time here cleaning! The young ravvie took out the wand: ‘Scourgify’, she pointed her wand at the cauldron, and then, once again at the dirt on the table. ‘Do you ant me to do yours too?’ What? Did that sound mean? I didn’t wish to say that you are not capable of doing the spell… I just like using it.

Then, she folded the patchment piece, and turned around to her friend. For now, I'm not going to leave you. Probably I'm going to return to the library and fill in a few notes about this potion.

‘Eh…sure’, she said taking the chocolate frog. What? It’s chocolate! How am I supposed to refuse it? She then opened the chocolate frog box, caught the ‘animal’, and then looked at the card. ‘You are collecting these too?’, she asked happily. Another chocolate frogs obsessed- just like me? ‘Salazar Slytherin’, she announced shortly. ‘The fifth one I have with him so far’. Hehe…

"Hm?" Presley asked. What had she just asked? Presley shook her head. "No, I can get it. Scourgify." she cleaned her cauldron. "Oh, yes, I've collected since I was little. I am missing, however, Hengist of Woodcroft, and a few others. But Hendrist's the one I'm most interested in getting. I would really like Andros the Invincible though. If you come across either, I'm willing to trade almost anything for them." Presley smiled. If Gwen had either of those, she wasn't going to want to trade them in a hurry.

No kidding. Treyen kind of figured that one out on his own. And he failed to notice that Slytherin was up to play against Ravenclaw next. Meaning...Ellie, right? And Sierra was going to be there...with a bat.

Scary thought.

He pushed it away as she mentioned the Hufflepuffs and he shook his head while holding a smile, "No, I actually wanted to ask you about one in particular," he said, before looking her way, "Conan." But he didn't ask anything else. And he was kind of hoping that Sierra wouldn't ask anything because now he had no real excuse as to why he brought him up in this conversation.

That's why he didn't answer her question.

Oh, great. He actually looked down this time. "With a bat, like...taking out the Seeker," that was rule number one for Beaters. Yet, it was clear that she wasn't going to do that. So, nervousness aside, he looked up and smiled, "I actually do." PLENTY of new things, or well, not so much...BUT...he was going to share them with Sierra, of course. Just...hold on.

He opened up his journal and took out one piece of parchment he'd written for her. "This is for you, I have everything in my journal," this was so Sierra didn't feel the need to write anything else, and they could make corrections on it as well.

SPOILER!!: Sierra's brand new parchment

OOC: Final color, came from this meaning. I swear everything Treyen wrote has a meaning *nods*

Gwen nodded as Presley told her she could do the charm. I knew that! The young Ravenclaw looked around and felt a bit sorry that the potion was already done… and that she couldn’t even try it. Just to make sure it came out as it was supposed to. ‘At least we didn’t blow up the place’, she said while grinning. That sounded sooo loud. And there was no doubt Lafay heard her. Great… nice going, Gwendolyn, she told herself.

Then, the red-haired listened to Presley talk. ‘I do have an extra Andros the Invincible’, she announced. Come on, kid, it’s only an extra card, you can give it up…, she told herself. Anyways, I need to thank Presley in some way for sitting with me, and, more important, that she actually could actually bear me. ‘However, I don’t have Hengist of Woodcroft. Sorry’, she said.

‘Um… I don’t have it in my bag here’ OBVIOUSLY ‘But we could meet sometime, say… this afternoon?’, she said.

She had Andros? And was offering it to Presley? What?? "What do you want for him? I have a couple of good ones that I could trade." There was no way. A slow smile crept across Presley's face. her second most-needed card, and she was so close to getting it. Meet up in the afternoon? Okay! "yeah, sure. Maybe I could see you at lunch?" Gwen seemed really nice, and Presley really wouldn't mind getting to know her better. Pleased as she was with the outcome of the potion, she was more glad that she had kind of started to be friends with Gwen. Presley let her mind wander for a moment. Gwen, was that short for something? Or just singular? Presley had wanted, as a child, to be named Gwenhwyfar, but her parents had refused to change it. And much as she hated the Elvis question, Presley really did like her name. She snapped back to focus, and waited for Gwen to answer the questions.

Gwen looked around, again disappointed that it was over. ‘Hmm…? Oh, no… I don’t want anything in exchange’, she said. It’s the least I could do for you. ‘But you could bring the cards… I’m curious to see which ones you have.’, the ravvie said. ‘Lunch sounds great’, the girl said, ready to leave and rush to the library. One more thing to do before lunch… complete this parchment with observations.

While approaching the door, Gwen stepped out and waited for Presley to come. Then she looked one more time at the lab, and, with a sigh, she closed the door. ‘So, I’ll see you in the Great Hall’, the ravvie nodded and walked along the corridor.

Presley was astounded. Nothing in return? Gwen had to be the nicest person alive! She could trade Andros for just about any card she wanted, but she didn't want anything from Presley? The eleven year old nodded, in agreement to bringing the cards at lunch, and followed Gwen out of the potions labratory with a "Yep, see you then!"

OOC: Final color, came from this meaning. I swear everything Treyen wrote has a meaning *nods*
Sierra had completely blown off the comment about seeing any Hufflepuffs around the school lately. She only really got along with about three of them, total, and that included the boy sitting across the table from her. She'd actually forgotten Treyen mentioned something about it until he brought it up again. She looked up at him, her facial expression silently questioning him.

"Oh, ...yeah. Conan," she said, shrugging a bit. "Yeah, he's a nice boy." He'd brought her flowers for Valentine's Day, but she choose not to give Treyen that little detail. Maybe he already knew, though. He was a Hufflepuff, too, so maybe he'd caught up with Conan before the boy had left their common room. She looked at him for a few seconds longer, waiting for some further explanation or comment, but none ever came. Hmm. She guessed the boy was just questioning whether or not his friend had been seen out and about.

She laughed when he answered her question about taking him out. "Oh, come on, Treyen. I'm not that scary, am I?" she asked. Argh. It kind of concerned her that a boy like Treyen might be nervous around her. She wanted him to like her, not be leery of her. "The only time I'd take you out is..." She paused and gave him a grin. The type of grin that said she was either had a trick up her sleeve or was otherwise up to no good. "...is if I took you out for ice cream." Yes, Sierra Greingoth was blunt and bold. "We should really hang out sometime."

Perhaps on a Saturday when Ravenclaw will be conveniently busy on the Quidditch pitch?

She stopped all other line of thinking when he passed a piece of parchment to her. She was quiet for at least three solid minutes while she read over everything and let it all sink in. He'd finished their potion. Without her. Sure, they could make trial and error corrections now, but he'd finished it. Ugh, and what made it worse is that he was sitting there thinking he'd done something amazing for her. Instead, he'd left her out. The jerk. She said nothing but quietly packed her belongings into her bag. She stashed the parchment in there, as well.

"Well, ...I see you've done your homework," she said. "I have to get going." ... "I'll see you around?" She looked at him, wishing she could say so many more things to him, but in the end just sighed and turned to walk away. On the way out the door, she stopped by Lafay's desk. "Bye, Professor," she said, in a very soft tone. "Thanks for letting us use the lab." Then she turned on her heels and left the lab.

OOC: Karla!!! This is all IC. Sierra may be all mehh right now, but I'm not. Thanks for typing that up for us (it looks awesome!), and we'll have them meet up again soon!

So, Conan was a nice boy. He had to smile at that, for it was true, but coming from Sierra it was always a plus. However, if she considered Lola as nice, then he was lost as to how Sierra's mind actually worked.

Not that he knew that at the moment.

He said nothing else on the matter, though, and her laugh surprised him. The boy also managed not to answer that question. The Slytherin girl in front of him had been deemed of 'nice' and at times 'sweet' by him, but after seeing her on the Pitch, well, he didn't know anymore. Plus, she often glared his way, and he was pretty sure he'd done nothing to deserve that glare, but what did he know.

Tentatively, he shook his head, as if to say she wasn't scary. At least not right now. Needless to say, her next...invite? Wait, what? THAT was unexpected. Was she asking him out? For ice cream? He supposed he could do that, it wasn't like she was TRULY asking him out. "Yeah, sure thing, whenever you feel like it." He smiled her way, and completely forgot about Lafay and Lucille eyeing them at the front.

OH.

Wait. Hold on.

He did ONE thing wrong. And he only took notice of that thing just now. This was a collaboration. And Treyen was pretty much handing her over a WHOLE potion. One in which Sierra took no part in. The Prefect was about to say something about that but she was already leaving. He'd never meant for that potion written in that piece of parchment to be FINAL, he just wanted her to have that so they could discuss if they were somewhere close to done.

Not that he wanted to be over the potion or anything.

Why was Sierra so sensitive about this anyway? And moody. She was. "Yeah, go ahead, see you." He said, before she was finally out.

There was no point in staying after she'd left, right? Because he had no other potion to work on at the moment, nor he wanted to practice any other. So, he placed his journal in his bag and nodded to Lafay, "See you, Professor," he said, before leaving.
