| | | of Professor Hecate Scarlett Lafay The door is closed and locked though the professor is in. Once you knock the professor will allow you to enter. The walls are lined with bookshelves, but on them no books. There are various rare ingredients in jars and bottles. A desk and a chair behind it, books and papers on the desk. There is a workstation with a pyrex cauldron on a burner. There is always something burning. A very uncomfortable chair is set in front of the desk. This makes it hard for a student to spend too much time in her office. |

...she didn't even know, exactly, what she planned to do at all. She had absolutely no reason for being in here right now, but she wouldn't dare admit that to her Head-of-House. "Hello, Professor Lafay. I came by to properly introduce myself, as my father seems to think a lot of you and has had quite a few good things to say," she greeted. It was hard to say a line like that without it seeming as a near suck-up, but Alexander Greingoth did sincerely seem to like this woman.
Even if, for reasons Sierra couldn't even imagine, the woman apparently had a thing for Hufflepuffs. Tournament Boy had just said so, at least. "I'm Sierra Greingoth, first year Slytherin," she continued. "I've just written my father and informed him of mine and Alex's sorting results." She drew in a small sigh and added, "I'm sure he'll be pleased with...mine, least." Yeah. She still hadn't gotten over the fact that her own twin brother was now a genuine Puffer Boy. Quote:

"Your father was a close friend of mine, while in school..." she said and looked for the brother... "this doesn't give you preferential treatment, I hope you understand." She said narrowing her eyes. As Alex entered the office and took a seat next to his sister, he gave her a confused look. WAIT. Their dad KNEW this woman?! How come he didn't know that? He thought about it for a few minutes and then figured it was probably because Sierra was obviously going to be a Slytherin or whatever, and it had been obvious for some time. Their dad had probably never thought it was important to Alex to know that he was apparently BFF's at one point with one of their professors.
When Lafay mentioned no preferential treatment, he sat up straight and nodded. "Oh yeah, I totally understand!" he said, wanting to show that he had not thought that at ALL upon coming in here. He'd just thought she was a basilisk, that was all. "And I'm Alexander Greingoth. The, um, third," he added. For some reason he felt like he needed to use his full name with this lady. Maybe it was because she knew his father? For some reason he felt like that was the cause of his sudden need to add the third to the end of his name.
He remained quiet however as a boy suddenly barged into the office with...a box? Lafay looked like she wanted to eat him for interrupting. It was a like a house of horrors down here in these dungeons!!

She definitely wanted to be careful with how she worded things around her Head of House. Oh. Thanks, Dad. Way to break ties with the Slytherin Head of House just as I get to Hogwarts. "I see," she simply answered. "That's too bad you lost touch, although, I'm pretty sure he still considers you a close friend. That's what he was just telling me, at least." She wanted to ask what had caused them to break friendship and lose ties, but she sort of had a feeling she'd get asked to leave if she brought up a sore subject. A hint of a smile played on her face "Well... that's certainly nice to hear..." She said, and then re-composed herself. Quote:

*"Go on prefect." She said to the girl.* Iris smiled and nodded at the Professor, in thanks. Maybe Lafay wasn't as bad as everyone made out, after all ...
* As Professor Lafay cast the charm to stop the others in the room from hearing their conversation, Iris found herself twiddling with the buttons on her school robes. "Well... This is something I've been reading about and thinking about since my Third year..." Iris started, looking directly at Lafay, "I'm seriously interested in becoming an Animagus." She said, plainly and simply. The prefect didn't need to beat around the bush with this. " ... The reason I came to see you is because I figured you know me... And I want to know if you think I'd be able to do it." Iris bit her lip and moved her gaze away from the Potions Mistress for a moment. " ... and more importantly, I was wondering if you think I'd be able to do it in just a year. I noticed at the Feast that Professor Kingsley was gone... and I don't see any new teacher wanting to help a student become an Animagus in their first year of teaching..." * OOC: Likewise... Rae slumped into the office. She knew that Lafay wouldn't be too thrilled if Rae was just outside her office for no apparent reason... Maybe she could think up something quick.. The snake Prefect was there, along with the firsties that Rae was enjoying conversing with. "Hello Professor." She said calmly... Hmm.. When this was over.. She felt like hitting the outdoors... laying in the shade on the grass sounded nice.

"There is no offer Master White. I am giving you a list of people your father can contact for his donation." She said angrily. "I don't want to hear any more about this. Or your father. Clear? Good Day Master White."

As Iris made her way to the door, Iris nodded in acknowledgement to Evan, then left the busy office. Iris couldn't help but grin at the fact that Lafay had nearly smiled. It was PROOF, pure proof that the woman wasn't evil.

Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Entering the office more or less behind the other students while still trying to seem like he was leading... did not work out so well for Fletcher. He ended up somewhat in the corner while the Greingoths sat down and the Slytherin prefect somehow carried on a silent conversation with Lafay.
What was up with that? The Glitterpuff folded his arms and leaned forward from his corner to see if he could read lips. It was impossible. They must have cast some charm to keep things from being overheard.
Well whatever it was, since he couldn't hear it he obviously thought it didn't sound as interesting as Rae's surfing plan. His girlfriend had received permission again (WOOT WOOT!), was getting ready to leave now and Fletcher hadn't even said a word yet!
"Rae... wait!" Fletcher whispered urgently, his hand going out to hopefully catch her arm before she got out the door. If not... er... he should probably address The Basilisk anyway.
He cleared his throat and let his hand drop. Yeahhhh... maybe she hadn't seen that. "Professor Lafay, ma'am," he straightened his posture and smiled cheerfully. "How are you?"
There. Keeping it simple.

Derian entered the office of the professor at last. Keeping in mind all he had heard about Professor Lafay, he focused on keeping his apprehensions at bay. He had an objective for his visit, and that (at least) is what he would fulfill. He wanted to learn how to make the Wolfsbane potion, and he would even tell her about his condition if it became necessary. He did not overly like whathis condition was dong to him, and he wanted to play it safe--whatever Rafe said about just finding other outlets of energy.
Once fully in the office, he did not hide his curiosity. His eyes were glued on the shelves that surrounded him, openly gawking at the jars and their contents. He decided that this was his favorite place in the castle so far, no matter the professor's anti-social behavior. But, that said, Derian thought it would be great to get on the professor's good side, nonetheless.
"Professor Lafay. Thank you for seeing me. I know how busy you must be."

Or at least, that's what Sierra was thinking inside her head. Never in a million years would she be idiotic enough to say that out loud. She could think of at least two people that would be more than highly upset with her for that comment, and she was currently talking to one right now. Quote:

"Can I hold her?" Or, can I run Alex out the office with her?! She paused just before adding, "I'm trying out for the Slytherin Quidditch team this year. Beater seems like a really nice position, although, Daddy and Anna played Keeper." Quote:

Leave. Me. Alone." Sierra quieted down when drama seemed to erupt in the form of the same Puffer Boy who'd had some letter from his father. Apparently, he'd had flowers, too. How had she missed that one?! Ahh, she loved a good show, and this--this was a good show! She glanced at her Head of House out of the corner of her eye before turning back to her brother. Quote:

He was totally unprepared to get back at her when stuff like that occurred, and that would just NOT go.
Suddenly, Alex felt himself wishing he HADN'T been sarcastic to his sister a moment ago, but here was Lafay, in front of him, holding a BAT now. Was she allowed to use that against students!? Oh please MERLIN let it be against the rules--no, against the LAW--for her to do that to him. "I like that dad felt I was worthy enough to have that middle name," he piped up. True, his dad probably would have gone with something boring, like Peter or Michael, if he'd known that Alex would one day be a Hufflepuff, but he still hadn't suggested he get his name changed or anything. So that was a good sign, yes? Of course Sierra wasn't going to comment on Alex's remark to her. She'd already slightly gotten scolded for her comments to him in the first place. So for now, a glare it was. *glare*
She did, however, at least give him an eye roll for that second comment. When had he ever liked the fact that his father gave him Salazar for a middle name?!
Never.
...or maybe it was just the fact that the current Slytherin Head of House was standing feet away with a bat in her hands.

"Unamused." She answered. "What do you need Master Fletcher?" She asked moving straight to the point. Lafay wasn't the time who engaged in small talk... Quote:

Well, I am curious about one potion in particular..." he eyed the other's in the room a little uneasily, " Erm, while the name of it slips my mind, it's chief ingredient is monkshood, or aconite." He figured she of all people would not only understand his vagueness, but also grasp its underlying meaning. Talking frankly about Wolfsbane invariably created a public stigma that he wanted to avoid for the moment, even if he was only half-lycan.
" And I need to know how difficult it is to learn, as well as how to make the potion--or at least where I can find all of said information. But, that said, I would really appreciate your help, because I hear tell its a complex brewing process." The full moon was ever approaching, and if this potion would be able to help alleviate the side-effects of his condition, he wanted it.

Argh! Sometimes, Hecate Lafay could absolutely drive her insane! Why? Likely because it was just so difficult to do something to actually make the woman proud of her.
...and just why was Sierra so worried about making her Head of House proud of her?! Ugh. Now she was annoying herself. Although, she had a sinking feeling her father's friendship with the woman had a lot to do with things. Not to mention that fact that Lafay was one of Sierra's only female Slytherin influences.
Lafay had at least wished her good luck; and so, for the moment, Sierra was pleased. "Thanks, Professor Lafay. Hmm, I guess that is all. I really just stopped by to say hello anyway," she said, leaving out the fact that she'd happened upon the professor's office completely by accident. "Oh, and to tell you that I'm really honored to have been sorted into Slytherin house. I wouldn't have had it any other way, really." Smiling, she added, "May I be dismissed now?"

There. Keeping it simple. Fletcher in fact had caught her arm. Rae stopped and she took Fletcher's hand from her arm and lowered it as she spun back around to face Lafay again but this time with Fletcher right next to her... She really didn't know what she was going to do or say still here after she was already dismissed. However she trusted Fletcher and just went along with it....
Except he hasn't spoken yet.... And Rae was still standing there...... Errrrr
She heard the little first year snake playing suck up to their beloved potions professor. It seemed that their conversation had just about ended as well... Rae was almost speaking to herself.. But it was halfway directed at Lafay. She still didn't mean to be louder than she was though... "Isn't she cute?" Little firstie snake!!! AWHHHHHHH! They're especially cute when they suck up to the professors or older students...
