Kurumi thought for a moment - being the curious person that she was...she would probably go and investigate what the noise was. It could be something adorable and fluffy! But...that probably wasn't what the professor was looking for in an answer. Talk about being the complete opposite of constant villigance Kurumi..."My first instinct would be to take my wand out and be ready for whatever it was that came out of the bushes..." she said in a quite voice.

Emmy looked aghast at Professor Tate - was he out of his mind?! Ok, so it was only a scenario, but even so, he could have chosen a better one...
Putting her hand up, she said, "Well, I'd get into a defensive stance, but ready to run if necessary, I'd draw my wand, and I think I'd use Lumos maxima, so that I could see what I was up against. Of course, if that didn't work, I'd use the Impedimenta Jinx, sir." Not her best answer, but it covered most things...

She hoped to god that there would never be an occasion where she would find herself in the Forbidden Forest. Because it was forbidden, you know.

Mia's first reaction would be to run for her life but she figured that's not the answer the Professor was looking for. She raised her hand in the air, "Maybe it would be a good idea not to let whatever is rustling the bushes aware of your presence and then if it is possible climb the nearest tree so that you can put some distance between you and it. And then merely wait for it make it's appearance and see whether it is a threat or not."

And if it was.

Then run for your life!

Daisy raised her hand, "Well I would use Imobulous but after that if I were in that situation I'd turn and run." She couldn't stand wooded areas anymore. Even walking on the pathways gave her the creeps now.

Leilani raised her hand. "Uh, stay still and if something popped out I'd either run or stun it." Y'know, in the event that she actually managed to brig her wand along. Psh, why was she in the Forbidden Forest anyways? It was forbidden. Duh.

"At first i would try to figure out from where the crackling comes."
And then?! Woah, why were all the spells she could think of not allowed?...

"Maybe i would use the apercium charm", she said,"you never know whats in there. So letting hidden things appear would be a good thing."

Alice thought for a moment. "I'm not sure if this would be too obvious, put perhaps casting Lumos on the bush? Or if you want a more subtler approach, perhaps keep walking, but back track so that you come around on the other side of the bush. That way if it's a person or thing hiding in it, you can catch it off guard from the behind." Alice wasn't the best at figuring out what was the right thing to do in nerve racking circumstances, mainly because she had never really been in one before.

Yay!! Lara loves DADA ,she felt herself right in the middle of the situation, what would she do? Lara was thinking her eyes closed tightly , trying to think of something.


Well let’s try this she cleared her throat and said "I'll try to be absolutely vigilant while holding my wand tightly, and I'll try to locate the source of the sound" Lara said as she was acting it herself "If it turns out to be a harmful creature I'll conjure a shield charm right away!" She finished jumping, looks like she got a little bit hyper.

Louisa's mind worked fast. The Forbidden Forest? Heh, as if! She'd never step a foot on thereshe didn't have the nerve anyway. Raising her hand she asnwered, "I'd freeze and take my wand out.." And then shout out for help of course, "..Lumos would be the best solution before I could see what's lurking behind.." And then I'd unleash my feet to the wind, ".. and one of the spells mentioned before would be ready on my mind to use once the 'thing' is exposed." And would never go back there. There, he had the diplomatic answer from a coward girl.

Chloe thought about the professors question and thought of some different scenarios of who could have have caused the rustling noise as well as the implications of being a student in that situation and then raised her hand and responded, "I would try keep my cool with my wand at the ready but in reality I'm pretty certain I'd use imobulous or petrificus totalus and run for it. If I some how found the stregnth to be a bit braver I would use lumos to see what the rustling noise was and if it's a dangerous beast I'll use imobulus or pertrificus totalus. If it is a professor who followed me I would hope I was brave enough to use lumos first cause I would already be in a heap trouble and I certainly would not want to make things worse for myself hitting a professor or possibly the groundskeeper by mistake. I guess my point is it's usually better to find out what you are up against before you attempt to face it head on.".

"I hear some good suggestions, although it seems like several of you have forgotten that the point of this exercise is not to use the list of spells. We're doing that whole thinking outside of the box part now," Tate clarified. "I do appreciate that many of you were cautious before jumping right in and attacking the bush. I didn't clarify what was in the bush... it could have been another student out breaking the rules, or a fluffy bunny, or an acromantula. We don't jump into a situation with wands out and hexing. It's the shortest path to Azkaban or expulsion, to be honest."

He spread his hands, encompassing the whole class. "How about one of you suggest a scenario? Raise your hand if you have an idea, but don't just shout it out."

A scenario...hmmm...then an idea came to her head. It was OK if we were speaking hypothetically....right?

"Professor," Kurumi said raising her hand. "What about a scenario where you receive a letter from a mysterious person claiming to know you, your location, your family but they demand that you do not ask them personal questions back..."

Different train of thought from where the class direction was currently going...but it would be nice for some advice - hypothetically speaking, of course.

"We're actually looking for scenarios where we can practice spells in a defensive setting, so I"m not sure that one would work. But... if that was happening, you should probably take the letter to your head of house." So said Tate.

"But... if no one else has a scenario, I'm willing to let someone else offer a solution to this one."

"Ah, a second suggestion." Tate gave Neptune Bott a friendly look... until it turned sort of frazzled around the edges. That would show HIM to ask for suggestions.

"Hm. Ideas?"

Alice listened carefully to both Kurumi's and Neptune's scenarios, and couldn't help but raise her eyebrows slightly. Sounds like they had some personal issues going on.

"Well, you could always inquire as to why the person punched your friend in the face. Or, if he continues to use violence you could always go to the head of your house, or the closest Hogwarts professor that you can find," Alice said, hoping that would be useful advice.

Leaning back on her chair Dianna thought.
When an idea came up she raised her hand. "What about some crazy bloke chasing you around because..because he wants your...erm..money?" she said. That could happen right?

Kurumi blushed and hid her face in her textbook. Naturally her scenario was a little too far out of the box. Then she listened to the second suggestion and raised an eyebrow. Were there students punching each other?

Lexi raised her hand and smirked, "Well, you could always find the bloke and jinx his hands to punch himself repeatedly in the face. Give him a taste of his own medicine. Is there a spell for something like that?" She was ALL EARS on that one. If such a spell existed or could be created she wanted to know about it. Mhm.

Well number one was obvious. If the mysterious person was hot, then Jimmy wouldn't mind at all. Fangirl stalkers? He could get with that, he could.

The second was obvious too.

LAUGH. hah.

hahah.

It hadn't been him after all, so, laugh.

He chuckled quietly to himself.

Cass raised her hand, "Uh, how about if you're...out in the dark and you hear a rustle from, somewhere...and you're unsure if that something can harm you or not...?" Cass was unsure herself.
