Now that she had all the ingredents and coookware(so she thought) that she would need the girl began. Glancing at her cook book, she quickly read through the first few steps. First she turned the oven on 350 degrees F, then scanned the table for a sauce pan, picking up and filling it halfway with water before placing it on the stove.

Reading the cookbook again, she picked up two sticks of butter. The book said for one cup, but she couldn't find any of her measuring untensils so decided to go by eye and taste. We'll have to wait for the finished product to see how this works out. Arya cut the butter with a butter knife then placed in a stainless steel bowl. Next she grabed approximately 6 ounces of chocolate and cut it with the same knife before adding to the bowl. Carefully she placed the bowl into the saucepan of simmering water and waited for the two ingredents to melt.

With a small smile, Jake moved up to this group and eyed everything. "We mmmaking sssweets?" he asked hopefully, without actually looking at what was going on.

Oh dear Merlin, he actually joined them? Granted, it took him a few moments and she was sure he wasn't going to but then...here he was! Stutters and all...

"Taffy." she said plainly, staring at him. "Well, me and Lawson are making taffy. Him, more then me though. I don't know what you're making. Or him for that matter..." Gesturing to the other guy who was apparently making candy too.

And she still wasn't sharing any of the taffy either! Unless, under a few circumstances of course. Noticing the, SLIGHT growth spurt the huffie apparently had, Evelyn smirked slightly before speaking. "So...Jake." Can't call him Mr. Stutters in front of a professor. Pfft. "How are you?"

"Oooooh," Jake... ooohed. "I wwwanna make some t-t-too."

Well, he did...

At the question from Evelyn, Jake looked around at her... and got slightly dizzy. 5'5" wasn't a height he was used to. "Me? I'm..." Errrr... an odd question to hear from a girl who used to bully Jake. "I'm okay. I ggguess... bbbit of a hhhard time in ccclasses. Since I nnnow need permission to be unable to rrrread."

At this, Jake gave Lawson a pointed stare. He tried to make him write.

"Huhh-how about you?"

With all the ingredients in front of her, Mina looked at her recipe. Okay, first things first. She needed to preheat the oven and butter the pan. That didn't sound all that hard, she reasoned as she reached for the pan some butter. Buttering the pan as liberally as she could, she set it down and moved to preheat the oven to 350°F/≈177ºC.

Looking back to the recipe, she nodded. Grabbing a sauce pan and a bowl, she filled the pan with water and set the bowl over it. Ta da! A double broiler! Watching her cousin cook was really starting to pay off.

As she waited for the water, she moved on. Earl Grey powder, she needed to ground it first. Reaching for the grounder, she went to work. The smell of the bergamot really did remind her of home. Setting the power aside, she placed it with the other ingredients. Seeing the stream coming from the water, she added the chocolate to the bowl and gave it a slight stir.

It would take some time for it to melt, so she moved to the mixer and started on the next step. Eggs and sugar....check. Now ten minutes with the paddle attachment.

Destiny 06-03-2010 04:33 AM

Destiny..had finally stood up to fetch her ingredients. There were a lot of things she needed to grab, and one would think, being a class dealing with muggles, there would be something muggleish to help them carry their ingredients. Heh. Obviously Lawson didn't think of that.

Fiiiine..if there were no baskets anywhere to carry the things she needed, she would improvise. She was good at that kind of stuff. She had brought her schoolbag to the cabinets and starting putting the things she needed in there. To anyone that would just happen to walk in, they would think she was a thief, with the way she shoved the potatoes in her bag. Her twitchy eyes didn't help matters either.

The only thing that wasn't thrown in her bag were the eggs. She didn't need them to crack open, since she still had books in her bag as well, so they were safely placed in her pockets. She returned to the table, noticing Jake was actually sitting there with them. That boy..he was a rebel. Ignoring the fact that him and Evelyn were talking, Destiny unloaded her bag of ingredients.

Now, to start making this Kartoffelkloesse!

As she re-read the instructions on how to make this Kartoffelkloesse, Destiny's eyeballs nearly popped out of her head. That..was a LOT to do. If she'd have known, she would have picked an easier recipe..like sugar cookies or something. Sighing, since she already had her ingredients, and the eggs in her pockets, she started with step one.

Trim crusts off bread and save them for another use.

Sigh.

Arya sat whistling and swinging her feet as she waited for the two ingredents to melt. She was in her own little world and almost missed the chocolate about to boil, thankfully she had checked on it just in time. Putting on those purty flower patterened cooking mittens, she removed the bowl from the pan stirred the chocolate and placed it aside to cool as she went on the next step.

Reading the recipe book, she glanced at the next step. It seemed easy enough. Picking up a bag of flour, she poured in a little more than decent amount, using her eyes to measure since she didn't have a measuring cup. A small white puff cloud emerged from the bowl as she finished pouring the flour. Next was the salt, she added a small pinch of it since she didn't want it to taste all salty. After she adde loads of sugar cause she wanted a SWEET brownie pizza. Lastly she added the baking powder, a little more than she did with the salt since she didn't know what it was for.

Once all the dry ingredents were added, she began with the eggs. She had cracked them once before in charms class so she kinda knew how to do it. Starting with the first egg, she tapped it lightly against the side of the bowl. After what seemed like forever, she had it crack and placed the shell aside. She did this with the other three eggs until they all were cracked and in the bowl.

Having cracked a few too hard, she picked out the pieces of egg shell that had fallen in the bowl before picking up a wooden spoon and stirring the ingredents as she whistled.

Looking at the spoons Evelyn had brought with her, Marcus was both amused and impressed at the same time. "Since we are going to be heating sugar, syrup and water into a saucepan, which spoon do you think will be the best one to use?"

Ah of course Jake would want to make sweets and as much as Marcus was tempted to tell him no he wasn't allowed, he knew he couldn't. He did tell the class that they could make anything they wanted to.

"Do you have a recipe you would like go off Jake?" Because he was pretty sure that Evelyn did not want to share her recipe. And right now he was in no mood for any arguments.

Lawson turned his head slightly to see what Destiny was up to and he raised an eyebrow at all the ingredients she had on her table. "Are you okay over there Destiny? Do you need a hand with anything?"

Everyone seemed to be getting on with their own thing which was really pleasing to see. "Is everyone coping alright? Do you need help?"

"I want..." Jake started and finished by pointing at whatever Evelyn said they were making. But he kind of got the impression that Evelyn had just invited him over to be really mean and... yeah. So he instead bit on his thumbnail and looked troubled.

And then the moment of genius came to him.

"Cccan I muh-make something up?"

That would be AWESOME. All the sugar he wanted.

Either Evelyn was tall, or to her...it seemed like Mr. Stutters was short, seeing as they were almost practically the same height. Except he was a little bit talle- Why was she comparing height!?

Meh...

And it seemed she tuned back into the conversation at just the right time. He couldn't read? She had a faint memory of knowing this before, but, it seemed like new news to her just now! Keeping a straight face however, she smiled just the slightest and nodded, before slowly turning back to her notebook.

It was getting surprisingly easier to control her laughter. Thank Merlin. She didn't forget the warning Lawson had given her the year before. "I'm doing wonderfully." she said, turning to Jake with a rather sincere and warm smile. "Especially now, what with my favorite teacher and favorite Hufflepuff here and all..."

Would they buy it? Probably not.

Still smiling, she turned her attention back to the Professor before looking at the spoons. Which one would be best with hot water and syrup? Shaking her head slightly since, well she was just going on the best guess here, "I would have to say...the wooden spoon?" she asked, looking up to the Professor for confirmation.

It definitely wouldn't be the plastic one right?

And, right now Lawson was her favorite Professor. Giving Jake the option of another recipe! There was no way she was sharing her own, and Lawson was the only one that was to make it. It wasn't agreed that he had help from others, since she definitely didn't want extra hands touching the candy. The most delicious and delicate candy, taffy, in the whole world of course.

Glancing over at Destiny when her name was mentioned, the Slytherin smirked for a moment, seeing the amount of ingredients that were on the table, and since she still couldn't pronounce the recipe name, Evelyn then turned back to the professor before hopping up on the table behind them and holding her notebook in her lap. "So, Professor...what's the next step?"
