Finishing with chopping the carrot, Evelyn scooted the little pile into one little group and placed the knife down, just in time to hear the Professor speak up. Get their ingredients. Well, that was just a big ol' major problem for her now wasn't it. Sighing, she pulled the small pink taffy like candy out from her pocket and held it in her hand. She brought two just in case but... really, she didn't even know how to start making a taffy. Waiting. Yes, she would wait for the Professor to come over here. And she wasn't about to let him skip on helping her either. Mwaha! |

Sitting up straight, she glanced from her uneven slices to Lawson musing over his words. "I don't mind stopping, besides I've grown accustomed to having five fingers on each hand..." She released the fork and held up her left hand and looked at it admiringly, "It would be a shame to lose one over cutting carrots." Even though she did love carrots. And what did he know? She had already cut six beautifully uneven pieces from the orange vegetable and she was proud of them. This was the first time she had used a knife. Hmm.....but would it really kill her to try it his way. He wouldn't allow her to do something that would harm her, would he? Nah. Listening to him speak to the rest of the class, she sighed internally. Now everyone else got to work on thier recipes while she was stuck with the carrots. Arya picked up a small piece of carrot she had cut off and rolled it around in her hand. "Can you show me how to cut it again?" |
Listening to Arya's reasoning he could understand why she would be hesitant to to try this. The knives were super sharp. "You know I wouldn't let anything happen to you." And he wouldn't but then again accidents do happen and he could not be everywhere at once. Best not let the students know that though otherwise they wouldn't have any confidence at all. Giving her a broad smile, Lawson gently took the knife out of her hand and picked up another carrot. "Right place your fingers on the carrot and then tuck them back out of the way. Place the flat part of the blade against your knuckles, they will act as a kind of shield for your fingers. Then slowly bring the knife down onto your carrot." He looked up at Arya to make sure that he was following what he was doing and then without taking his eyes off her he continued to slice the carrot. "Just move your fingers down the carrot as you slice." When he had finished, he held out the knife to her, handle first. "Now you try it." As he stepped away to give her some room, Lawson looked around the room at the other students. "Evelyn, I will be with you in minute. For those of you who are planning on baking make sure to measure your ingredients precisely otherwise you will find that whatever your baking might not turn out properly." |
Chop, chop, chopchopchopchopchop. Chopping celery was BORING! Destiny was only halfway done when Lawson said they could start their own recipe. Pushing her chopped celery in a little pile off to the side, she carefully put the knife down next to the pile. Pulling her book closer to herself, she quickly turned to the page she needed. She was definitely ready, since she had marked the page by folding the edge. She bent over the book and ran a finger over the list of ingredients. "Hey Evelyn! I'm making Kartoffelkloesse!" SPOILER!!: The secret RECIPE! Now..she needed to find these ingredients. |

And she was right, because he was amazing at this stuff. This was the kind of thing that he could do in his sleep if he wanted to. "Looking for me?" he asked as he joined her. This would be fun. |
"I know." She said with a quick nod of her head, but he couldn't protect her from herself and that's what worried her. Still, it couldn't kill her to try and cut the carrot properly. Injure her maybe, but not kill. Handing over her knife, she leaned forward slightly and chewed on her bottom lip as she watched him show her how to position her fingers on the carrot. Her eyes never left his hands as he started to cut the carrot, watching to see how he moved it down the orange vegetable. He made it look so easy. No fair. Seriously, this is one of the reasons she liked magic, cause it could do things she didn't care to do like cleaning and cooking. And then he handed the knife to her, she knew it was coming, still she was a little hesitant to take the knife. But take it she did, after staring at her partially cut carrot for a quick moment she put her hand on the vegatable the way Sir Lawson had shown her. "Like this..." It was a question and statement rolled into one. She gave him a quick glance that said if 'I lose a finger I'm blaming you in my parents letter' and placed the knife on the carrot not to close to her fingers. Then she slooooowly began to cut the veggie. It was uneven cuts, and the whole move your hand down while you cut thing was proving more difficult than she thought, having to pause a couple of moments to repositon her hand, but she was cutting the carrot and NOT her fingers. That's all one can really ask for. |
Off in his own world, a slow jazz song was playing. Zachary had snuck into this club for the sole purpose of having a meal that wasn't prepared by house elves, or prepared with any magic ingredients. As far as his taste buds were concerned, he was a muggle. Never far from him, his top hat sat up turned nearby. While chopping some carrots to his favorite tune he was humming, a few pieces were slipped into the hat nonchalantly. |

She wanted to bake, of course. She LOVED baking. Was excellent at it, too. Cooking? She could manage, but only barely. Speaking of baking, where was -- Quote:
"I can't pounce upon you, right now," Gold complained, with a pout, as she looked up at him. Because he was taller than her. Which was okay, because she thought her height was perfect. Like her hair, and name and -- and she needed to stop being vain. It was the one drawback she was always trying to discard, and never, ever succeeding. "What d'you want to bake?" Yep. Because she knew he would want to bake something. Baking. That was Mr. T's strength. Hers, too. "Does a cakeyy sound fun?" She had lots of suggestions, in that brain of hers. LOTS. Rawr. |
Pffft. Making her wait! Maybe she could play with the knife until he gets over here. Wait, no. Her uncle said that was a bad thing to do. Placing the knife back down on the cutting board again, she shoved her hand in her pocket and pulled out...two more taffies! Wow, she thought she only brought two. Huh. Oh, that's right. She was saving one for later use. Staring at them for a moment, the Slytherin closed her hand on them before looking up and staring at Lawson. Maybe she could try like...mind control on him. Mwhaha! And when that didn't work, she started to think of what was put into a taffy candy. Sugar...right? Gotta be. And these were strawberry flavored so, strawberry flavoring stuff. Yes! Sugar and strawberry stuff. Good start. But what in the world was this white stuff? She hadn't even thought about that yet. Taking a quick peak at Destiny's recipe, since the name of it confused the heck out of her, Evelyn smiled and nodded. "Sounds good to me." Even though she'd never tried it. |
Aileen looked around if there was anybody to cook with, but decided to start alone and see if anyone would join her. She realized that she had brought a book of easy recipes with her. She took it out of her bag and started to look through the book. Hm, this one looks easy. SPOILER!!: Recipe She went to retriev the ingredients and started to prepare it. |

"Very good Arya. Now you're getting the hang of it" he said giving her shoulder a light pat. "You can keep practicing if you like or you can start on your recipe." Quote:
"So Miss Flores, I do believe we have some candy to make" he said eyeing the sweet in her hand. Of all the things she could have had him do, Marcus was grateful that she had picked him to cook for her. It couldn't get any easier as far as he was concerned. He was awesome at cooking. |

Taking the knife, she cut it in half and handed one half to the professor. "A little sample for you to go by." And he better get it right on the first try. She didn't have THAT many taffies for him to sample. Plus he was lucky enough to even touch it! Crossing her arms behind her back, she took a step away from the counter and before deciding to take out a little notepad from her pocket. And yes, a pencil too. Might as well use muggle items considering the class right? A pencil was a muggle item....right? Erm... Anyways. Time for taffy making! |

Ah.. maan. That wasn't fair. If Digz was having sugar then so was he. He could ration the cookies rather than scoff the lot which wasn't a great idea with sugar free stuff anyway... unless you wanted give yourself the trots. *Snicker* He pulled a face. Man, Nathan didn't tell his family anything, did he? “I'm allergic.” He mumbled. “Makes me go a bit crazy.” He pressed his finger to his temple and went crossed eyes imitating what his idea of a crazy person was like. Quote:
Oliver picked up the chefs knife as indicated by Professor Lawson and whistled happily to himself as he began to slowly chop up the carrot into cubes... or dices or slices or whatever. Oliver was a halfy - he knew muggle ways but he had never cooked anything before except for beans of toast and the occasional egg so he took to the task rather cautiously. He wasn't very good at the chopping – he went about it tentatively, his tongue in the corner of his mouth as he concentrated on not chopping his long fingers off. When he was done, his pieces of carrot were all a bit messy and uneven but he figured that didn't matter. It would taste AWESOME because Oliver was making it.. whatever it was. Heh. |

Lawson knew that he had to eat the taffy so that he knew what was in it but he had to admit, he actually hesitated taking it from Evelyn. Would the girl poison him? Probably. But he would have to assume that she wouldn't be that silly to do it in front of witnesses. So Marcus, took the taffy from her and popped it into his mouth. It was actually pretty good and he managed to decipher most of the flavors. The rest he was going to have to take a guess at. "Okay this is what we're going to need. Sugar, Corn Syrup, Cream (Milk), Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Lactic Acid, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Artificial Color (Red 40), Salt, Soy Lecithin and Strawberries will make the natural flavoring." He looked at Evelyn expectantly to make sure that she had written that down. He hoped that she had because he didn't think he would be able to remember it. ooc: Gah woman, I had to search for that candy ingredients lol. It may be slightly different but meh we both know he was never gonna get it right. Lol. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Chef There was no way Diggy was using a knife. He would leave that up to someone else. He needed his fingers for a lot of things, and his hands were shaking too much to trust them with his fingers. He just watched everyone else chopping with their knives. There were a lot braver than he was. Quote:
He nodded. "Yeah sugar does that to me too, but I don't rightly care." he shrugged, and he didn't. It made him feel great and he loved it. Though it was becoming a problem. He saw a recipe book laying open on a table and it didn't seem like Oliver had a recipe to he leafed through the book looking for one. "Want to try this one?" he asked his uncle. There wasn't too much sugar in the recipe, but enough for Diggy to enjoy eating them. Quote:

And what in the world was Soy Lesethin? "This tiny taffy needs all these ingredients?" she asked, raising a brow but taking a deep breathe anyways. "Alright then. You can get ...everything but the salt, sugar, strawberries, and cream. Since, I have no clue what all the other stuff is." And it sounded poisonous. Acid? They were putting acid into the candy? Now Lawson was trying to poison HER! Well, he'll just have to have the first taste after they create the candy now wouldn't he. Ripping off the small piece of paper with the ingredients down, she gave it to the Professor and then went off towards all the ingredients. At least she could remember those four items. Who knew if his oldness aloud him to remember all of HIS ingredients. Teehee. Walking over to the ingredients, she placed her notebook down on the table. Sure, she could've summoned everything, but Lawson would probably get all angry hippogriff on her since she was in a muggle studies club, and plus...summoning things in a kitchen was a disaster in Charms class. Gathering everything that was needed, she slightly struggled her way back to her table, thanking Merlin that it was far, and placed everything down on the counter. Sugar, salt, cream, and the most important...strawberries. Squee!! |
"Ooooooo, I love candy!!!" Nymphy said. "Professor?" he said, raising his hand. "I've only done this once, but I belive that for cnady, we usually start with a simple syrup and then depending on the desired consistancy, we heat to the appropriate temperature. At least thats what I did when I made fudge that one time!" he said, excidedly. Nymphy was good at this class, but unlike Charms, this was natural talent. He was only way ahead in Charms becasue his uncle had taught him so fanatically. his talent in this class just came to him! |

"Ooh. Okay. What kind?" |

"I will," Gold laughed. "Something with chocolate sounds perfect, in fact. Waitt." She flipped open her recipe-book. It would, after all, be best if they followed a recipe, given that they were working in a mini-group, and would need something that could ensure co-ordination. SPOILER!!: Recipeee Coming to a specific CAKEY! recipe, Gold paused. This looked like quite, quite a yummy cake. She could imagine the end product even now, a tower of rich, dark chocolate. "This sound alright?" She asked Mr. T brightly. Rawwrr. |

And then he was touching her, whyyy was he touching her when she was handling a weapon of mass distruction? Was he trying to freak her out? Cause it sorta kinda worked. Hmm. No more cutting please? She moved assided the knives and cut carrots and pulled over her cook book. Fudge brownies with nuts sounded like a fun make. Getting up from her seat, she began to gather the ingredents she would need. |

"Sounds like a plan, Miss. G." ZOMG! Chocolate cake! |

Gold glanced down at the recipe. "I'll take step two, you take step three?" She offered. She LOVED working with chocolate, absolutely LOVED it and, a moment after she had spoken out loud, Gold wondered why on earth she hadn't opted for step three. Oh, well. Oven set, she picked a circular cake-pin, and laid a wax paper at its bottom. Now, to grease it. That was easy. Gold had LOTS of practice, with baking. Smiling at the thought of chocochocoCHOCOLATE!, the sixth year picked up a silicone brush and, unscrewing a bottle of vegetable oil, poured oil into a big bowl. In which she then dipped her brush. Once she had slowwwlyy but surely applied the oil, to grease the cakeyyy-pan, Gold poked a small spoon in the flour-supply, and dropped a teaspoonful of the stuff into the cakey-pan. "This is going to turn out delicious, isn't it?" She asked Mr. T, brightly. Because they were both good bakers, even though she wasn't such a good cook, to be honest. Still, they made an excellent team. Would have, even if both of them had been bad at baking, because they knew how to have fun. Gold had always thought that knowing how to have fun, while learning, is more important than just learning. Still did. |
Evelyn and Nymphy Marcus rolled his eyes at Evelyn and pushed off the table and headed for the pantry at the back of the room, to collect the ingredients that Miss Flores was too lazy to get. With his arms full of ingredients he placed them down onto the table just in time to catch the young Hufflepuff's statement. "You are quite correct Nymphy and to get it to the right consistency we are going to need..." he reached into one of the drawers and pulled out a small looking instrument..."a thermometer." Lawson turned back to Evelyn, "You are also going to need a saucepan and measuring jug. Oh and probably a spoon would be a good idea as well." He looked at the Slytherin expectantly, "You do know what those things are, right?" Ten galleons says she doesn't. Man, he needed to stop with the betting. It had already got him into this mess. |
:) Having completely missed Lawson rolling his eyes, Evelyn stared at the things that were gathered so far...before looking up to Because she was surely not going to be sharing her own. Turning her attention back to the Professor, she narrowed her hazel eyes at him, knowing full well what was really being asked here. "I do." she simply said, taking a few steps back, a small smile appearing on her lips even though she was still slightly glaring at him before she went off to find a saucepan and measuring jug. And apparently a spoon, but which spoon he needed, the girl didn't know. "Would be easier if I could summon this stuff..." But since this was 'Muggle Studies' and such, probably would be kicked out for using magic. Coming back to the table, she placed the saucepan, measuring jug, and three spoons on the table, each a difference size and material. Wooden, Silver, and Plastic. Yush! "I didn't know what spoon you needed, so...there." |
