That was all she needed to hear, really. Still....traveling gave her the goosebumps. Swallowing whatever was left in her mouth, Celestina smiled. "I guess, since you put it that way, it would be really rude of me to say no, huh?" Rude and Stupid. What was the worst case scenario? That they didn't like her portfolio and sent her back home.
Bucky would have lost nothing but a few days away from her photography studio, since expenses were all paid for.
"You haven't? AH you're gonna love it! I'll have to show you around the city when you come into town since I won't be able to sit in during your interview since it's not my department." Francesca gave the girl a grin and kept looking around the room cautiously. She didn't exactly want to be found right now. She was feeling fairly comfortable at the moment which had her start thinking that something or someone would eventually be around to ruin it. "Not exactly rude, just a dumb move on your part in my opinion. I'm not exactly someone who meddles in other people's business but if I was you, I wouldn't turn this down." She gave Bucky a wink and took another sip of her drink. She wished it was the stuff she had back in her hotel room but alas it was not her beloved Teavana tea.

"No, I was...well, you know, traveling requires coins," replied Celestina, rubbing her thumb against her index and middle finger. "They don't exactly pour of the sky for me."
She knew of people who merely had to breathe out their desire and the coins would smack them in the face, give them a black eye too if they weren't careful. Alas, Celestina was not that privileged, or at all.
"I guess I'll have to wait for the interview. Can't count my Basilisks until they hatched." Or, however that stupid saying went. "Does this mean you've been living in New York?"
"Yep! I've been living there for about three years now. It's absolutely fantastic there but I'm ready for a change of scenery to be honest which is why I'm ready for them to give me the green light to start calling international matches. I mean my home will always be in the States but I'm ready to live somewhere else." Francesca wasn't exactly sure where she wanted to go after they gave her the green light though. London was always a possibility but she wasn't a fan of wet summers. Anywhere in Spain would do for her to be perfectly honest. Or maybe Italy. Again she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to do. "Trust me if your stuff's decent, you'll land this job. The people we've had coming in for this job have been so amateur I could scream. Like seriously they're trying to tell me they've been working professionally for years when I could take better pictures than them."

"Sounds like you had a bunch of idiots working for you!" quipped Celestina happily. Her nose had crinkled in the effort of keeping her mouth within the limits of her face. It was a hard tasked as her lips were threatening to spill out of the sides and just take over.
It was just that---it sounded like she'd fit right in with the past employed idiots! Yay.
"Anyways, if you're looking to move just let me know. I know someone who works in realty! You just let me know and I'll have a talk to him. He looks scary but he's really a softie."
That's what Bucky thought about most people, anyways.
"Do you really!? If I get the green light to do international matches you will have to set me up with your friend because I would adore a flat in either Barcelona, Spain or Milan, Italy if possible. How long have you known this friend? By the way if I do get the green light you are more than welcome to move into my old apartment. I haven't messed it up or anything, the place just looks a mess right now because I'm scatterbrained. If I organize it, I can't find anything! It's in the lower Manhattan area so you would literally be about a ten minute walk from the Ministry offices. Of course you'd be traveling with the teams as their sports photographer so you wouldn't get to see your home very much." Fran really wanted that blasted international job right now so bad, she could taste it. She already found a way to get to a realtor and someone who hopefully would take her old place off of her hands. Blasted Ministry review board taking five thousand years to review her record.

Whoa, Mama Sparkly. Fran was throwing ten thousand questions in her direction. Chuckling, Celestina groped the table in hopes of finding something to drink. There was a served cup of questionable contents. Bucky wasn't all that picky. She brought the cup closer to her face. It didn't look like milk. Bucky brought the cup up to her nose. It didn't smell like milk.
Whatever it was, it was fine and already going down her throat.
She, Celestina Warbuck, traveling with Quidditch men--er team members? How safe for her well-being was that? Bucky had no idea, except that whatever was in her cup was quickly depleting.
"I've known this person for uh..." Bucky trailed off to roll her emerald eyes towards the ceiling. Fluttering her lashes, she counted on her free hand. "Two years?" she said doubtfully, showing Fran two fingers. "Something like that. I use that word, known, liberally too."
Nicholai found Celestina quickly enough once he began looking for her again. With no explanation of where he had disappeared off to, he approached her with a soft and slightly self-mocking smirk firmly in place. Being here was not going particularly well for him thus far. Particularly considering memories of the last time he danced in this hall. Well, they'd just have to be replaced, that was all.
"I'll try not to slip away too often, Bucky." Nico's smile widened into an appreciative grin and slid his arm gently around her waist, stnading next to her. "I'd much rather be seen in your company after all."
He let his glance linger for a moment or two, then turned to the woman Celestina was conversing with. Nico offered a lazy, but genuine smile.
"Two years? That's perfect. Not too long and not too short of a time in my opinion." Fran grabbed her cup and took another sip of drink. Whatever the elves were serving tonight was amazing. It was making her feel a bit more relaxed. She prayed to every wizard known to the wizarding world that this night wouldn't turn awkward for her. Maybe for someone else, but dear merlin not for her. She couldn't take that tonight.
Suddenly a gentleman came up to them and put his arm around Bucky. So her date WAS real. He also wasn't jailbait which was a relief to Fran. Well this was a bit awkward for her. She didn't exactly have a date to this thing after all. "Ah hello! You must be Bucky's date. I'm Francesca Clairmonte." She extended her hand to the gentleman and smiled. She wasn't getting a sketchy vibe off of him which was a good thing. She'd probably sink into the floor if she did.

....What?
Celestina glanced over her shoulder at the approaching figure of Nicholai Toussaint. Speechless and a little disturbed, she glanced down and stared at his arm around her waist. It took several moments of blinking before Celestina could process it and allow her body to relax.
"Uh, well, you know. I consider myself rather amusing company," retorted Celestina with a blush before looking over at Fran who was introducing herself. A-ha! So that was her full name. Bucky grinned, glad that she was no longer being forced to keep saying Fran this and Fran that. It also meant she could avoid the awkwardness of asking her for her name.
"Yes, this is my date," explained Bucky glancing at him out of the corner of her green eyes. "He is uh...an ex-alumni too." Clearly. He was one of the smarter ones too. What was Bucky doing here again?
Nate wondered away from the seating area, looking over his shoulder over his shoulder once or twice, to look at Cadence. He thought she would be happy he was here. He didn't really understand girls. He hadn't seen her in a year and after 30 minutes, she was sending him away? What?! Whatever. He was just gonna stuff his face. But cutely. Maybe he would chat up a few girls to make her jealous. Who knows if it would work.
He piled his plate with a small amount of everything. He was always open to new things. He went back over to the seating area and sat far away from Cadence.

"Nicholai Toussaint." Nico offered his free hand to go with the smile, his other hand set gently against the small of Bucky's back. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss Clairmonte." He caught her hand up and apparently without a second thought, gently brought it to his lips to essay a kiss over her fingers.
Habit.
And breeding.

"Delightful company even." Nicholai agreed. It was kind of what he needed really, considering everything. Not that he wanted to dwell tonight, if he could avoid it.
"Class of '68, if we're being technical." Though he had actually left the year before. Nico glanced towards the entrance way and the unmissable sparkle of his sister's, way too grown up in his eyes, gold dress. He frowned briefly before returning his attention to the two women, adding a small, almost teasing smile for Bucky. Perhaps a little conspirational.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Mr. Toussaint. Is there another name you go by besides Nicholai? I can remember the name just fine, I'm just wondering if you prefer to be called something else. I hate getting names wrong." Francesca chuckled and looked back and forth between the two for a moment. They were cute together. Her eyes nearly bugged out of her head when he said what year he was, though. "You just made me feel incredibly old, I hope you're aware of that. I graduated in 2062! Not from here, though. I only attended here my fourth and fifth year." She looked towards Bucky this time, her blue eyes looking almost grey this evening. "I'm glad to see that you weren't making your date up Bucky. Now you can tell Leo so he doesn't think you brought an imaginary friend or a pillow person whatever that is." That sinking into the floor feeling was trying to creep back into her body but she shoved it off. Nothing was going wrong and everything was going to be great. Tonight would not be awkward at all.

Merlin and Morgana, Lil Toussaint was making her utterly uncomfortable with all the eyes and the grinning and the smooth talk. She didn't know what to make of it, so she gave him a good and appropriate 'I am far too uneducated for this exchange' look and simply attempted to stand there and look pretty.
Or, you know, moderately alive and with some kind of brain power.
"Class of 68?" murmured Celestina out of the corner of her mouth. "How come I never noticed you before then?" Hmm? Maybe because she was too busy wishing death upon the opposite sex for the majority of her school days. When she wasn't doing that she was fully enraptured by Quidditch, Jamie and Tagren.
Grinning at Fran, Bucky opened her mouth to speak. "You can call him Nico. I mean, I'm sure he doesn't mind. Everyone calls him Nico. It's what I call him. At least to his face. Hehehe." Yeah. Bucky wasn't going to go into detail about what she called him in her head or to Briony when Nico wasn't around.
Then Francesca just kept talking and Celestina grin froze stiff. If she so much as moved her entire pale face would crack. Instead, she reached for the back of Nico's tux and just tugged slightly on it.
It was code for: LIES, BLASPHEMOUS LIES. Don't believe anything she says!
"Pillow baby," she corrected Fran in a murmur, neck, chest and cheeks glowing bright. "And I don't see why I would make up a date...geez." Was desperate stamped all over her face? Did the freckles on her body spell it out?
"It is entirely up to you." Nicholai offered to Francesca. "Nico, or Nicholai." He raised one eyebrow at Bucky, amused at the idea that she'd have any other nickname for him. It did not particularly bother him though.
And as for Francesca feeling old, Nicholai offered a lazy shrug. "I'm quite sure then, you'd be able to teach me a thing or two, Francesca." Possibly. Or not. Nico's somewhat cocky grin made an appearance.
His eyebrow went up for a second time and he fixed his dark eyes on Bucky. "I can't say I'd mind being your... pillow person, Celestina."
Well, yes. She would have known him, had he attended Hogwarts for his entire school career.
"I attended Durmstrang from my first through fourth years. I was only at Hogwarts for 5th and 6th years myself and graduated early." He calmly slid his free hand behind him, catching at Bucky's hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. Hey pretty lady, don't crease the suit. He didn't drop her hand either.
"I'd prefer to call you Nico. Nicholai just feels odd coming from my mouth for some reason." Of course it felt odd coming from your mouth Francesca, you were at one point best friends with a Nikolai but you'd prefer to forget it! Pushing a strand of her brown hair behind her ear, she nearly jumped back at what he said to her. She didn't quite show the shock on her face though. Instead her face wore a signature Slytherin smirk. "I'm on vacation from work now so I'm holding lessons. I'll teach you something new. I can guarantee that." What the hell was she doing? Oh yeah that thing she liked to do when guys got cocky around her, which was to do it right back. Her brow raised when he said he went to Durmstrang. "Durmstrang eh? Well now that makes things interesting. An old friend of mine went to Durmstrang. He was actually a transfer student in my year and went here the same amount of time I did. I assume he went back there but we didn't exactly keep in touch."

Wait. What was happening? Bucky's bright eyes bounced from Fran's face to Nico's face. At one instance, Celestina had even tilted her head, a perplexed expression plastered over her freckled face.
She was brought back by Nico's distracting eyebrows. Bucky frowned up at those too. "You're nothing like a pillow though," she commented honestly. Definitely nothing like a pillow. He was nowhere near as fluffy. Ha. A Nicholai pillow was ludicrous. Chuckling at her own imagination, Celestina glanced away from her date and Fran to stare at the rest of the attendees.
Hogwarts sure had a lot of pretty people. She breathed out a wistful sigh as Fran and Nico discussed Durmstrang, their favorite bott bean flavors and the meaning of life or some similar droll. Bucky was vaguely aware of her hand being in Toussaint's possession but it didn't bother her too much as long as she didn't start sweating. That would be embarrassing.
Blinking, she stared at Francesca. "You mean, Vannacutt?" she asked thoughtlessly, fluttering her eerily long lashes some more. "Did you know he is actually Bulgarian? I always thought he just liked to pretend to be foreign."

"Whichever you prefer." Nicholai assured Francesca. He laughed, matching her smirk good naturedly. "First lesson free?" He inquired, eyes twinkling. This night was turning out to be a good distraction. His date was beautiful and Miss Francesca was fun. Nico was sure he'd not be wrong in assuming her to be a former Slytherin herself.
"My brothers all attended for the entirety of their schooling." Nico paused thoughtfully, "I might have been given the option to leave, myself." Or something to that effect. It was worth it though, Nico decided as he examined what felt like a long distant memory. Easier times. Not happier perhaps, but easier.

HEHE!
"No." Nicholai agreed smoothly, small smile tugging at his lips. "I tend to be much firmer." She was... sweet. Oddly innocent. It was refreshing actually.
"The Vannacutts are old friends of my family actually." Nicholai paused, considering this and in particular Nik and Adri's friendship. Which was often a little bit... well, it made Nico raise his eyebrows and judge the both of them. Nico himself had always got along better with the Count than with Nik.
"You'd be surprised at how little Nik actually pretends." Nicholai observed. He was kind of an open book, whether he realised it or not. At least to Nico who had spent many years on the outside while his older brothers and Nik... well it felt weird to think of them playing together, but thats what it had been once.
"Since you're a willing student, the first lesson is free but it may not be what you're expecting." Grinning, Francesca winked at him then listened to him muse about Durmstrang. It was all going so well until Bucky piped up with that name. A cold stare was trying to form on her face but she was fighting it. Now her new friend had a connection to Nikolai Vannacutt besides the school he went to. Now the conversation, of course, was about Vannacutt. Francesca wasn't going to abruptly change the subject so she put on her best smile and took a large chug of the drink she had set on the table. "That's who I mean Bucky. Nikolai Vannacutt is a former friend of mine. We lost touch after we left Hogwarts so I really don't know how he's doing." Nor do I care. She kept telling herself that she didn't care but she did. She most certainly cared how he was doing. It made her sick because she actually cared. Then again she cared about how most of her old friends were doing anyway so why did this situation make her feel sick?

Nico and Fran were still doing that exchange bit that Bucky didn't full comprehend but felt awkward paying full attention to. When that continue to happen, Celestina narrowed her eyes at Lil Toussaint. He was being oddly family! Oddly familiar!
So, she did the best thing she could do--people watch while hanging off Nico's arm. "Yeah..." she said and bit her lip before she could keep on about Francesca and Vannacutt. She was the girl-friend, friend who is a girl person of Vanny's back at Hogwarts. However, if she hadn't said it, Bucky was certainly not going to point it out.
"Last I heard he was busy working on his broom line, or something."

Listening to the talk about Liz's cousin and then about the letter's sent to Mari his eyebrows raised as something dawned on him. "Wait...Liz...how have you been sending owl's to Mari anyway?" Especially since he always brought Snowball with him when he went out of town for matches.
As he heard Mari speak about it being good he was able to spend time with Liz now he caught the envious look that passed briefly over her face. And only felt a moment of smugness in that fact. His lips pursed slightly as Cayden was brought up and he didn't speak. Too bad indeed. He hated that guy with a passion. He basically ruined his last year or so of school. Thank god for Liz. He looked at Liz and busied himself with eating.

Robert and Elizabeth then did that...thing that happy couples are prone to. The sliding into their own pocket of existence for a few minutes..thing. Mari looked away for a moment, only because it was awkward for her even if she didn't show it at all in her expression. She'd always been quite good at keeping the majority of her emotions shut away anyhow.
" I hope I haven't gotten you into trouble," Mari teased as she heard Robert questioning Elizabeth about the owling. " She's a smart girl Robert. Probably smarter than both you and I so I would wager she'd figure out a way to send me letters." She said with a smile, continuing her bit of teasing. As Elizabeth responded to her terse explanation concerning Cayden's absence, Mari pressed her lips together a moment. " He wouldn't have enjoyed himself anyway. He prefers to be around the house when he's not at work." She said with a light shrug. Noting Roberts silence and Elizabeth's awkwardness, she made a resolution. Right. No more bringing up Cayden. " I wonder who else will show up to the ball." She said, looking around the room now for a moment. " And Robert, I'm afraid I'll be stealing Elizabeth from you later. I'll need someone to dance with." She said, trying to bring the conversation back around to something..neutral.
Elizabeth returned Robert's innocent look with a playfully innocent look of her own as he tried to argue the figure thing. "No, you said it was your eating that did it. Nobody ever mentioned Quidditch," she said back, before tilting her head as he leaned over to whisper in her ear after kissing her on the cheek. So he was going to play it that way. At least it was better than him brooding all night. Which she'd worried about. "It got your attention," she replied with a grin. Maybe she could keep him in this mood somehow.
But first back to her conversation with Mari, and her little thing with Robert had completely made her miss her best friend's reaction to the earlier comment about Rhiannon. It was probably for the better, though, since she was fully aware of the possibility of drama tonight. It was an alumni ball, after all. She nodded, though, as Mari sort of took her up on the offer. "Well, I don't exactly live with Rhiannon anymore, but we could probably work something out. Provided she's not holed up working on a commission, like she is tonight. But yeah, more friends are definitely better."
As Robert seemed to actually realize the little issue about the owls, she glanced at him again innocently before glancing back at Mari. "It's fine. Not like I actually do much most of the time anyway," she replied to her best friend's concern, before she went back to Robert. "Well obviously I don't have many options when you're actually gone." But there had been a few times when he hadn't actually been out of town. "I borrow Taliesin a lot. And there's always just using the owl post office." She just hoped he accepted that as the whole answer. She'd actually never been as happy for Cayden's existence though, as at least it seemed to have deflected the owl conversation. "Oh really," she said to the discussion. She didn't actually believe one bit of that, really, and only part of that was due to what she'd heard about. "I have no idea," she murmured as the topic of who else might be attending came up and she glanced around. Most of the people she didn't recognize, although she thought she'd seen Evangeline and Clifford. And she glanced around again as she thought she'd heard someone say Nicholai. That serach ended though, as she heard Mari speak to Robert again. "What? Why are we stealing me?," she asked, completely lost. That was what happened when she got distracted. By other things than Robert, although he often distracted her as well. And she didn't quite know why Mari was talking about dancing with her.

"I'll bow to your experience in such matters." Nicholai answered, essaying a short and slightly mocking bow and managing this without actually letting go of his date. Obviously he was quite comfortably in his element.
"How remiss of him." Nico observed at mention of the Vannacutt connection.

"Among other unsurprising pursuits." Nicholai agreed, thinking about a few aspects of Nik's private life that weren't exactly public knowledge. Well, Nico identified with some of it at least. "I've been meaning to ask him about a new racing broom actually." And something that had enough charms on it to ensure his son wouldn't accidentally get himself in trouble. The three year old tore around like nobody's business.
He fixed his attention on Celestina. "Can I get you a drink, Bucky?" He offered. Sure the table was right there but it was a way of gauging whether or not she was alright.
He had promised Adri and Briony that he'd look after her after all, and he didn't truly mind one bit.
He looked at the food as she described it. He hadn't had it before, but it looked rather nice. So he grabbed a plate and started heaping some on it. Yummy food. hehe.
"You know, being on the food committee was amazing."
Wait a second.
Gold frowned. "You were on the food committee?" She asked, trying her best not to blink. That happened, anyway. She blinked. Standing up straighter - not that was really possible, you know? Gold's posture was generally perfect, and that meant it was perfect, right now - she looked at him, clearly confused by what he had just said.
Because she had been on the food committee too, and she hadn't seen Mr. T at the meeting. Unless she had completely missed him.
Ugh. Stupid school. Stupid ball. Stupid everything! Mika just wanted to get out of it, STILL she'd dragged herself down here. For what reason? Bonnie, probably... Sure, they'd made up, but things weren't quite... right. Still a little akward.
She looked up and down the table to see if she could spot her.

" I wonder who else will show up to the ball." She said, looking around the room now for a moment. " And Robert, I'm afraid I'll be stealing Elizabeth from you later. I'll need someone to dance with." She said, trying to bring the conversation back around to something..neutral.

Robert smirked at Liz not denying that she has his undivided attention now. Though really she always had his attention. He went back to eating as the two girls spoke, his eyes on Liz trying to figure out what she was trying to hide exactly. He had a feeling she was but...it wasn't going to be worth the possible argument or discussion, instead he bit into his piece of chicken.
"Oh you know who I want to see!" He said suddenly excited about being here. He'd have to remember to thank Liz for dragging him. "I wonder if Lyra is here," he said with a grin. She helped him through a lot in school and was one of his good friends. He looked at Mari as she said she was going to steal Liz and he laughed. "Well...not all night. In fact..." He set his plate down and gave Liz a kiss. "I'm going to go look for people so you two can catch up without my uncomfortableness all around," he joked though Liz knew it was true. Giving her a hug he smiled letting her know it was alright, "I'll be back." Looking at Mari he smiled and with a squeeze of Liz's hand left the two of them to talk hopefully it'll ease the tension.
