"They are found in Japan." She replied distractedly, her eyes on her swinging feet that grazed the surface of the water as she sat on her desk. Arya didn't feel the need to impervius herself, she loved the water and was ready to get her hands wet. More than they already were alteast.

WHAAAT?

"No, you won't." she mumbled, keeping up her more greenish then blue shied so the water would continue to turn into that, steamy looking stuff AWAY from her in case more of it was splashed her way.

Yea, she knew how Destiny would help her hair get dry. And it would make it frizz too.

Stupid water, and it's stupid wetness. She didn't mind it if she was going swimming or something when she was wearing a swimsuit, but not on her school clothes! Oh. Oh, NOW the Professor suggests to impervius themselves. Pffft.

Frowning, since she did get a little water on her arm for some reason, Evelyn looked over at Truebridge, listening to the question. "Kappas can be found in Mongolia." she said, wiping her arm with the sleeve of her other shirt and then giving Destiny a LOOK.

Yea, she just daaaaared her friend to try that again. In fact, she was too busy glaring at Destiny to realize, bahahaha, wrong answer.

It hadn't struck Raiden to question why they'd need... err... gumboots, for class. It was Hogwarts, after all, and a swimsuit had been required for History of Magic, so it didn't seem all that out of character. The difference here was that he didn't actually have... gumboots.

Having swapped out his sneakers at the door, Raiden eyed the ankle-deep water with a slight wariness. After all, it hadn't been so long ago that classrooms, dorms, and halls had flooded with lake water... Water in classrooms was just a thing with him now. He silently imperviused himself, all the while keeping a sliver of his attention focused on Destiny as she splashed about. Just because he was imperviused didn't mean he wanted to get hit by waves of water.

"Well it's... commonly listed as Japanese, sir. But it's possible it could be found all over Asia by now. Proximity and lax shipping checks and all that..." Raiden wrinkled his nose. He hadn't spend more than the first two years of his life in Japan, but he knew what Kappas were. His dad had a whole book of Japanese faerie tales, and more than one was Kappa-based.

Ohhhh, kappas. Grayson hadn't gotten that far in her contemplation of what exactly they could be studying before Professor Truebridge had spoken about class that day. And then he mentioned impervius-ing, and she quietly pointed her wand at herself and murmured the spell. And cast it on her bag as well, just to be careful.

But then class had started, and she raised her hand in regards to the question. Especially as Evelyn had given the opposite answer as everyone else. "Professor, kappas are commonly found in shallow ponds or rivers, especially in Japan. But Professor Snape had told Harry Potter and his classmates that kappas were Mongolian, which I'm not really sure where he got that idea." She really wasn't, and that had always been one of the things that she'd been curious about. And now she also wondered if Professor truebridge had a bunch of cucumbers, too, so they wouldn't get attacked.

"Some textbooks list Mongolia but it is true that they originate in Japan. However, Raiden is right in the fact that they can be found in other parts of Asia, particularly in parts of Korea and China." Truebridge answered. "Japan is the answer I was looking for though."

He might have splashed a bit idly.

"A Kappa is a water demon, commonly found in waterways all over Japan. Aside from Kappa, can anyone give another name they are known by? And there are several."

Righto.

Gold raised her hand again, to answer the question. "They're also known as Kawatarō and Kawako, sir," she said simply. "Tho two names translate to 'River Boy' and 'River Child,' respectively; though, in some places, the term 'River Imp' is far more common."

Makes more sense, too, Gold thought as she lowered her hand. Kappas = bad!water!demons.

Nia raised her hand. "I've only ever seen them been referred to as 'River Children' or -" She paused to think about the pronounciation. "Gataro?" She flicked her hair back over her shoulder from where she'd been fiddling with it. "Apparently though there is a Pokemon called Psyduck people muddle with Kappa." She shrugged, before offering a further explanation. "A Muggle game thing..." she added, wrinkling her nose.

Raiden raised his hand again, slightly hesitantly this time.

"Erm... well my dad always referred to them as yokai... but that's more the whole group of demons than just kappas." He flicked a glance at Gold. "Kawako is one name for them though, yeah. In general terms they're also called akurei, which... well is just 'demon'."

Iris listened as everyone answered Truebridges questions. Unfortunately, Iris didn't know any of the other names for a Kappa.. Well, none that hadn't been said. She'd heard them being called Water Imps before, but Gold had beaten her to that one. So she just sat there, making a few notes and glancing down at the water, wondering where the Kappa was chillin'...

"I believe a kappa could also be known as a Kawatarō meaning river boy in Japnese which quite fits a kappa, Herminny replied with her hand raised high.

"Right Gold and Herminny, and thank you Raiden and Nia for that insight." They were taking notes, right? "Kappa have an aversion to objects made from a particular material. Does anyone know what THAT aversion is?" Truebridge asked.

Eirian listened, copying down notes as her cloak inhabited the empty desk beside her. No Jayce... Well, alright. She couldn't leave now. "Kappa," she said, raising her hand to answer, "can be called Kawataro, Kawako, Kawaranbe, Gataro, or Enko. They can be gotten rid of if a cucumber inscribed with their potential victim's name is thrown at them."

"They don't like metal," Gold said simply, her hand in the air once again. She wasn't sure if this was the answer Professor Truebridge was looking for, but that was what she had read. "I believe they have an aversion to anything made of metal, sir."

It was then she realized she had misheard the question. Because, reflecting on it now, she realized he had asked for a definition. She had thought he had asked what the aversion is to. OOPS.

"An aversion is a feeling of intense dislike, sir," she corrected herself. "I misheard." Meh.

Savannah walked in to the classroom ready for class to start.

All this water was distracting to the young girl, but she was trying to focus. Kicking the water again, she shrugged her backpack off her shoulders and Imperviused all her belonging before placing the bag in her seat and pulling out her notebook and quill.

Swinging her legs to allow her feet to graze the water, she began to scribble a few notes. Random thing everyone was mentioning that she didn't know about the creature. Aversion? She knew the word. Didn't someone already give a definition? Who knows. Arya stuck a piece of candy in her mouth.

Alex blinked confused, if it was a water demon.. which was strange then wouldn't it be afraid of, Alex rose her hand, "Uh..Metal?" Because from what she had read, in all her books metal was it's biggest fear after all.. other then fire that is.

Fire. Gold looked up, and then realized there had been no need to. She had gotten so used to Xylon calling her 'Fire,' that she had been about to respond to the word. Great.

But at least, she noted, Alex knew a correct piece of information. Kappas, if what Gold knew was true, are scared of fire. But fire isn't a material you can make objects out of. She shrugged, and looked back at her lap. Fire. She couldn't believe she had been about to respond to the word.

It was all Xylon's fault!

"Strong opposition or dislike," Xylon said, hand raised. "If you have an aversion to something, you avoid it."

What a strange question.

Ooohhoo were they going to get to play with the dark magical creatures now? Like really?

Fletcher kicked up a little water from his spot near a window and scratched his head in reply to the professor's question. Having never even seen one of these things, he had no idea what kind of aversion they had. Oh well.

Alright, so enough glaring at Destiny. Evelyn pretty much thought she got the point anyways...

Lowering her shield, and feeling slightly embarrassed by the fact that she was distracted enough to say the wrong answer to the first question, and even more embarrassed that she missed the second question, instead the Slytherin took out her notebook and wrote whatever everyone was saying down into it. Something about metal, fire, Japan.... Kywaniatle or something...

And now, the definition of aversion? Whaaaat?

"We've moved on from there. And while I appreciate that you know some extra information, please don't volunteer it unless I request it of you."

"Thats right." Truebridge answered. "Kappa have an aversion to metal."

"You're late. We began some time ago. Any particular reason you're so late?" Truebridge gave Savannah a chance to explain herself.

"They dislike all metal objects and will generally avoid metal where possible. Especially man-made metals."

ooc: I mistyped, accidentally skipping a word, we're all even.

"Aside from an aversion to metal, they also dislike fire. Why do you suppose this is?"

"Cause fire and water don't mix... and they're water demons?" Fletcher half-raised his hand and shrugged along with his answer. Twas a fair guess, right.

Raiden's hand went up again, his eyes casting around at his classmates in slight amusement.

"Excessive heat can evaporate water," he volunteered. "That could be one reason, considering where their power comes from."

If your power came from something, one would only assume that you'd be afraid or wary of that which could take it away.

Grayson wasn't entirely sure about the metal thing. Or really, the fire thing, when it came to kappas. She'd read about it, but she didn't know why. She had a theory, though, so she raised her hand tentatively. "Well, kappas can be rendered helpless if the water in the little hollow-thingy on top of their heads is gone. Generally stories said you can get rid of it by tricking them into bowing, so the water spills out. But fire can make water boil, and evaporate. So maybe kappas don't like water because of that." And she was fully accepting that her answer was probably way off, but at least she'd tried. Maybe she'd get credit for that.

Ah, and here was a question she didn't miss! "Perhaps because they are a water dwelling creature." Well, it would only make sense. Water and fire...generally don't go well together. Unless, you want hot water. MWAHA!

"I mean, they have that thing on their heads that hold water, and that's where they get their strength from." If she remembered correctly that is. "And since fire turns water into like, steam or...vapor, whatever you want to call... that could be a pretty good reason to avoid the stuff."
