Gold - you'll be the life path number, Evelyn - destiny number, Cedric - Heart's desire, and Mina - you'll be personality." Good, each number assigned to a person. Ironic that Evelyn got destiny number, but how was she supposed to know that Evelyn and Destiny were inseparable best friends? "Now in turn, I want each of you to tell your classmates who you are and how you are calculated. Giving us a general understanding of the importance of your number."

Bahaha! She totally just got to do the destiny number. hehe. Destiny. "Can I mention your middle name while I'm up there?" she whispered to her Slytherin friend next to her with a smirk before standing up, and walking to the front. Eh, hopefully Destiny understood that was a joke and didn't freak out.

Ugh, now, what did she read on the destiny number? Staring out at all the people, trying to keep up her smile, it started to falter slightly since now she realized...wow. A lot of people in the class. Didn't matter though. One laugh from one of them, and she'd be meeting that person for a special conversation after class.

No time for stage fright though! Her turn was up.

"Well, umm, hi? Supposedly, I'm the Destiny...number." Must, not, giggle! "I mostly calculate one's reason to live, or their purpose in life for other words. I also tell you the manners and behavior you should succeed in developing in your lifetime. But really, that's not all. I also get the marvelous opportunity of telling you what you must live up to in this lifetime, as well as what you are destined for, and we definitely can't forget...I also tell whether you fail in life or not. No, just kidding on that last fail or not part." Hopefully the Professor didn't mind jokes every now and then. "The Destiny number does tell, however, what opportunities for success may have, which in life, we all really need." Some more than others.

"And, to calculate the destiny number, it's rather simple. You all know your full real birth names. You know, the one on your birth certificates and that your parents gave you?" Like they all should know! "By using the Pythagorean Number system, you assign each letter in your full name the correct number that is laid out in the number system. Then figure out the reduced number of each name separately...before you add all those numbers together, and reduce to one, final, number."

Good enough? Evelyn thought so.

Sitting in the second row in the Arithmancy classroom Roxxy took notes. She had been a bit too slow to answer the first question and Gold had beaten all lions to the bush with volunteering. Glancing around the classroom she saw that Oliver and Nancy were there but not Miranda. Focusing her attention back up front Roxxy was eager to learn how she calculated her own core number. When Gold started to talk about a person's life's route made her wonder wheter the numbers could tell if her mother would come to terms with living in a magical community. Continuing to write down notes Roxxy was determined to speak to Professor Hadley about that after class was over.

Oooh. Great! Now was the best moment to keep Hufflepuff name atop. Cedric stood up and made his way to the place where the professor asked them to be. And it was great that he was assigned as the Heart's desire for he really do know what Heart's desire is.

He faced the crowd confidently and started giving his answers, "So I am Cedric Nichol--" Wah! So, so lame. "No I am the Heart's desire, yep. I distinctively tell or describe to you your own secret thoughts and wishes." And getting a nose of your secrets is fun. Hehe. "With my help, you can fully know what you love best and umm, your foremost desire I think.

"And I also tell you the right dishes for feeding your soul. Not that you can feed it treacle tarts or so but feeding your soul just means to err, feed your soul by doing something that is just for you and makes you feel really good and with complete honesty, feeding your soul could be as simple as reading your favorite book or er,"
kissing your girlfriend or boyfriend! "listening to your favorite song or meditating for a while.

"And now, I'll tell you how to compute.. myself?"
Hehe. This was really fun. "You just umm, need to layout your name and assign the appropriate numbers to each and every vowel in your name with the use of Phytagorean system. And by the way, the name listed on your birth certificate is the one that should be used on computing this core number and cognomens and other derivation of your names is therefore should NOT be used. After assigning the numbers to the vowels of your name, isolate and figure each name separately, add the reduced total of each name (first, middle(s), and last), then successfully reduced it to its single digit root number."

There. Done. So job well done? Hmmm.

Alexandrie listened closely as the teacher begun the class. She flinched as the points Slytherin had earned were taken away and wrote notes as others described what Arithmancy was. As she started to write out the core numbers she frowned, did the destiny number really mean their full name as in first, middle, and last? she never really liked her name as it was but she did admit she did want to know her core number. She just hoped she didn't have to tell anyone her middle name. She'd have to ask the teacher at the end of class about it she decided waiting for the last person to describe their core number.

Mina slowly got up from her seat and made her way up. Personality wasn't all that hard, she kind of understood the concept of it and could explain it. They were to go in turn, so she waited until it was her time.

"I'm the Personality Number and I describe what others remember about you after a first encounter, like your outer self or external image you project. In other words, I describe how others see you."

After the reduced numbers are added, the total is then reduced to a single root number." That sounded rather straight forward, she just hoped she made sense.

"Hi, guys!" She waved at everyone. "I'm the awesome Life Path Number, and I do exactly what my name says I do - help you trace your life's route. I give you an understanding of the path you will follow, or can expect to follow, in your life. But that's not all! I help you get an insight into exactly what will help or hinder you, in this. Your skills and stuff. Think of me as a big, warm lamp - I can show you the path and, in doing that, indicate what may, or may not, help you out. In the end, though, I'm only a lamp - I can help you see what you can depend upon, but it's up to you to put me to proper use, interpret me correctly, and let me guide you."

".... You know, you could think of me as the moon, too. I'm a really pretty number." Okay, scratch that.

"The calculation is fairly simple. You need to add the number of the month, the year and the day you were born, together. Reduce each value to a single digit, add the new values, and then reduce them again until you have a pretty, little digit you can flaunt as your Life Path Number."

What else?

"I'm generally all around awesome, and can help you become a better person, make better choices. Sooo use me wisely!" With that, she beamed at Professor Hadley again, and waited to see if she was allowed to sit again. This lesson was definitely turning out to be awesome.

Impressive. Yes, Fina was thoroughly impressed by the girl's creativity. "Very nice, thank you, Miss Life Path Number." She grinned approvingly. Tad conceited, but since Life Path number was the first core number listed in the textbooks, this was understandable for it to think it be awesome.

"Purpose. Yes. Key points all covered. Thank you Destiny number." Not to be confused with Destiny person. Nope! These kids were all so creative in their descriptions though, Fina was slightly envious.

Nodding at the fourth and final core number, she was about to agree when she frowned suddenly. "Consonant, you mean." She corrected the girl, with a soft smile. "But yes, precisely. The personality number basically describes the traits that people see. "

Nodding at each of the volunteers, she turned back to the class. "Let's give a hearty round of applause for their wonderful improvisation efforts on being a core number!" Clapping herself, she looked at each again. "Thank you. You may each take your seats again."

"We're now going to move onto the calculation part of the lesson. But to do this I want to make one thing clear; we're all not perfect. I don't expect you to be perfect in your calculations, but I do expect you to try." Josephina explained, laying out the ground rules for calculations. "I understand math isn't all your strongpoints, which is also completely fine. But again, just try. Focus and concentrate, as there is no rush. We'll be starting with the Life Path and Destiny numbers at first."

Flicking her wand at the board, more writing appeared;

Life Path Number
DOB: 2 April 2044
4 + 2 + (2+0+4+4)
4 + 2 + 10
4 + 2 + 1

Life path number = 7

Expression/Destiny Number
Full Name: Josephina Faith Hadley
J O S E P H I N A______F A I T H___H A D L E Y
1+6+1+5+7+8+9+5+1 6+1+9+2+8 8+1+4+3+5+7
(43) + (26) + (28)
7 + 8 + 10
7 + 8 + 1
16/7

Expression/Destiny Number = 7

"Special considerations are to please make sure you add and reduce each component up first before totaling. For instance, I added all the numbers up in my first name, Josephina, to be 43 and then reduced it to 7 before adding that to the reduced digit for my middle and last names," Fina explained, pointed it out to the students. While chances are it shouldn't make a difference, it was best to be consistent and follow that format regardless.

"One more thing before you go ahead and calculate the Destiny and Life Path Numbers. I want you to each partner up with someone you do not know at all or very well. I don't want to see best friends or significant others be partners. And I want you to exchange names and birthdates and calculate each others' numbers." Why? Because it is easy to calculate your number and make it fit for you, but calculating someone else's is a whole different ballpark. "Any questions, please ask me."

***

OOC Notes:
  • Find a partner you don't know
  • Exchange full names and birthdates
  • Calculate your partners' expression and life path numbers
  • Read the textbook interpretation and determine accuracy
  • When done, do NOT chat Unless you want MORE points lost *eyes* I won't hesitate to do it either, but rather sit quietly / don't post and wait for me to post up the next two numbers
  • Don't go ahead and calculate the other numbers [in here] before I post up instructions.
  • Have fun with the interpretations!
  • Questions? Ask me ^__^
  • Finally, there is a good chance I won't be back to continue with the lesson until Midnight EST tonight, the 13th? 5am GMT on the 14th, so no rush. <3

fyi: I'll be around for another hour or so, and then probably not til late tomorrow.

Grayson had been trying to pay attention, but once the professor had asked for volunteers and that whole part of class had started, her mind had wandered a little. Mostly to wondering what her ferret was doing, since for once she didn't have him with her, but also thinking about things she could do later. After class, of course. In a way it was a good thing her uncle had taught her really basic Arithmancy, since she could manage to understand class without much struggle. It wasn't anywhere near her favorite subject, but it wasn't her least favorite.

But now they were being asked to calculate the first two core numbers, and not even their own. Partners. In a class where she'd already decided there wasn't really anyone she knew. Grinning a little to herself, she thought, Well, that's one part of the assignment down. Pretty much anyone could partner up with me since I've yet to meet lots of people. Then she glanced around the classroom, trying to decide on who to ask to be her partner.

Roselyn 05-13-2010 08:20 AM

Mission Destiny Number... accomplished and ready for home landing. Smiling a little more now, Evelyn made her way back to her seat, quietly sighing in relief as she sat back down. No more volunteering.

Which meant she was going to sit there until someone wanted to partner with her, because there was no way she was willingly going to get up and introduce herself to someone she probably wasn't going to speak to the rest of her life. Unless...that someone was someone she knew. But, did the professor know if she was friends with Destiny? No, she couldn't. Unless she automatically knew they were friends.

Eh. Best not to risk it.

Looking at the board, Evelyn wrote down what was written up there, into her notebook so she had an example to go by for later use. Only 2044? Well, no wonder the Professor didn't look nearly as old as some other professors.

leshley 05-13-2010 08:23 AM

Sophia listened to the four students attentively. They were awesome interpreting and explaining the four cores. She took some notes. Afterwards, she listened to her professor giving an example. She understood the lesson well. Hoping to be good on her first day, she looks for a partner.

Zellanna 05-13-2010 08:31 AM

Well, that was different. She looked around the classroom, wondering who to partner with. Someone she didn't know... well, that was a good deal of people, wasn't it?

Celandine was quite ready to get herself a partner. It was always interesting seeing if others interpreted her numbers right. Of course her interest in Arithmancy was more concentrated on applying number meanings to spell creation than to personality stuff, but still, it was useful going over the basics.

She looked around, smiling brightly. Anyone?

Yay they were going to do calculations with a partner! Awesome! Roxxy needed some help with calculating and interpreting her numbers. Maybe it was best to aim for an older student as a partner? Looking around the classroom she saw an older blond ravenclaw that looked nice. Going over to her Roxxy said "Hi, Could we be partners? I've never calculated numbers before." Meeting someone new was good too since that was what Prof Hadley had wanted them to do. So she couldn't pick either Oliver or Nancy.

There was no need to point the badge thing out since the older girl had probably heard it since before Hogwarts started. But it surely wasn't bad a bad thing to have a prefect to work with. "Its just like adding." Cela explained, "And this other thing called reducing which just means making the number equal one digit. Its kind of fun."

She opened her textbook to the right page.

"We're using the Pythagorean number system." Cela began, "And our task is to calculate our life path and expression numbers." Cela marked the appropriate pages with little coloured flags of parchment.

"So for the Life Path number, its calculating the reduced sum of your birthdate, and for the Destiny or Expression number, its the reduced sum of your full name. Except you calculate mine, and I calculate yours."

Cela wrote hers down on a scrap of parchment.

"But when we're asked by the professor to recite I'll just use your estimated birthday cause you're now a," she stopped, she didn't know what year she is now. "in what level are you now?" she asked.

"By the way I was born 7th of April 2060." Sophia added, smiling.

Nessa was trying to absorb all the information as she listened to Professor Hadley. As soon as she took down the notes, she began looking around for a student who didn't have a partner, "Is there anyone who doesn't have a partner that would like to be my partner?" Nessa said looking around her area.

Zellanna 05-13-2010 10:23 AM

Needa get to bed. Night!

"Fifth year," Lina responded with a bit of a giggle. She wrote down the other girl's birthday and started writing out numbers for her name.

Great they were just adding and reducing. They weren't multiplying or doing something worse. Roxxy was good and the simple math and felt her confidence rise a little. With Cela's help she knew that she would get the hand of all the Arithmancy calculating in no time. Opening her own textbook Roxxy circled the right pages before turning to Cela "Okay, its sounds fun. Which should we start with, the Destiny number?"

Taking up her quill Roxxy wrote down her own information on a bit of parcment.

Pushing the parchment over to Cela she looked into her textbook to read more on the pythagorean number and which number was assigned to which letter.

"Sure, its a good idea to get all those numbers assigned." Celandine agreed and took Roxxy's bit of parchment, ready to figure stuff out.

Cela made quick work of the calculations and then started double checking them. It was so easy to make little mistakes.
