Connected to the Armour Gallery, the Trophy Room is where all awards, trophies, cups, plates, shields, statues, and medals are put on display behind crystal glass. Dating back centuries are the numerous achievements that have been made by those who've walked within these walls. When the sunlight shines through the windows and hits the glass just right, the items and names within glimmer and shine oh so bright.
Hundreds of names can be read here, ranging from the great Harry Potter, teachers and ministers of the past, many of today's famous Quidditch players, and more. Carefully looking at all of the names on each individual nameplate, some of you just might even find your parents' names here. Feel free to admire and strive to get your name listed somewhere in this room before you graduate. Just don't press your fingers against the glass or think about having a late-night duel here. You will be sitting here every night for detention until each trophy and plaque in sight is polished to perfection if you do.

It shouldn’t have been unexpected that fifth year would be a little different from the first four years. It wasn’t just the added pressure of OWLs either, to be honest Aurora hadn’t put her mind towards them all too much perhaps because she’d helped Solly with his last year and some of the information was still fresh in her mind. That and she had a whole collection of scented flashcards to study off of when the time came. But little ol’ Aurora had turned fifteen over the summer and she was becoming emotionally mature in ways that she hadn’t experienced before. Feelings that were leaving Pixie flutters in her stomach and confundus charms in her head.
It was in clearing these thoughts that she had found herself in an area of the castle that she hadn’t explored before. An area with little traffic and where she could stop pretending to be so perpetually happy and engross herself in the peace and quiet she usually avoided. Her eyes scanned over the names engraved on the plaques but she didn’t recognise any of them. Neither of her parents were on there, nor any of their close friends (the few that Ma Layla had) but it was nice to read such history anyway and imagine what these people were like at school.

So far, this term was proceeding in a lot of unexpected ways. Not unwelcome though. It was very interesting...and nice...and maybe a little confusing. Or a lot confusing. But in a good way? And that was probably why it was even harder than usual to focus on homework lately.
After an attempt at actually sitting down and writing a few terrible paragraphs for an essay, Ezra had finally called it quits and decided to wander about the castle. Usually he would've opted for a stroll around the grounds outside, but he thought a change of scenery might inspire some focus.
That was how he eventually ended up at the trophy room. Not a room he frequented often - there were only so many times you could look at a bunch of trophies before it got boring - but he looked inside anyway. It'd been awhile since he'd been in there, so it was kind of a change in scenery too, right?
But once he got a bit further in, Ezra realized he wasn't alone in the room. "Oh, hey, Aurora!" He grinned. This was great actually. He'd been wanting to check on her after she'd left that party, and now he'd finally found her.

Her solitude was over. Not necessarily a bad thing but it defeated the objective of clearing her own thoughts but now she would be thinking about other people’s thoughts. That Acromantula’s web of confusingness would morph into a giant network and she was feeling a bit like the fly trapped in the middle.
The trophies weren’t so interesting anymore (not that they ever were really) but the source of the voice was. A familiar one that cut through the silence and ordinarily would be a welcomed one. It still was of course but it came accompanied by the slight squirm of her stomach.
“Hello” The smile was genuine but not quite as over-enthusiastic as years previous. It could be construed as maturity if there wasn’t any underlying meaning behind it. “Have you ever been here before?” she turned back to squint at the glistening names. “I think that she is aunt to my cousins.” She pointed at the name Trixie under the Slytherin Head Girl’s list. Not technically related to her but she’d met her before at some of her Aunt Katrina’s parties.

Ezra was glad that Aurora seemed to be in good spirits. Or at least, in better ones than she had been at the party, where she had seemed uncomfortable towards the end. So he hoped that that meant she was okay now.
"A couple times," he answered before leaning in to peer at the name she was pointing to. "That's pretty cool. Have you met her?" He didn't know how close Aurora was to her cousins, but maybe she'd met her...whatever the term was for someone who was an aunt to cousins. Was there a term for it? Hmm.... Food for thought.
"I've got some family on here too." It'd been awhile since he'd been in here, so it took him a few seconds to find the two that were somewhat closer in years to the Trixie Malfoy name. Once he'd located their names, he pointed them out - Seth Paton and Vanessa Corbette. "My grandparents." Uncle Frankie and Aunt Hattie were listed in the display somewhere too, but they were further down 'cause they weren't as old.

It didn’t matter what sort of ‘spirit’ she was feeling internally, Aurora had it imprinted that everyone expected her to be the bouncy, joy-filled blonde and she would hate to be a disappointment. It was the uncomfortable squirminess that had led her to leave the gathering early, mixed with wanting some fresh air and just generally being a little fuddled.
The Ackerly family, her Aunt and Uncle at least, were an extremely large and very sociable lot (how her Ma was so UNsociable she didn’t know). “A few times. My Aunt Kat is a baker and loves organising parties especially at Christmas.” It could be a squish with her 6 adult cousins and their kids, her own family and the Broadmoors but it was fun nonetheless.
She smiled as he showed her his own grandparents names. “Sometimes I like to imagine what these people were like as students. Like what do you think..” Her fingers traced down the list to pick a name at random. “..Kurumi was like?”

Ezra wasn't sure if he should bring it up, or let the conversation continue as it was... but he decided on the latter, at least for now. Things were going okay, and he didn't want to possibly ruin the mood like that.
"Bet it's great having an aunt who's a baker." Then you could get free treats all the time. Or maybe it was just a Christmas thing. Either way, the food was probably amazing. And, yeah, seeing extended family members was probably fun too. He usually enjoyed the ones his family had around Christmas time.
Imagining the other people on the lists seemed like a fun exercise. He leaned a little closer to see the new random name she'd picked out. "Hmm...Probably responsible, I'd guess. Nice. Good grades." But that was...probably the general traits the professors looked for in student leaders, so maybe that wasn't a very exciting or imaginative guess. "What do you think?"

Ignoring any awkwardness and carrying on as if nothing had happened was probably for the best. It had been working for Aurora at least for the past couple of days. No one could question whether she was okay when there was a giant smile plastered on her face. She was even able to trick herself that she was absolutely fine too. Besides, the Ravenclaw couldn’t entirely explain what was wrong in the first place.
Rora was inclined to agree that having Aunt Kat in the family was absolutely the greatest. Unfortunately, despite there being no hostility between them, Ma Layla was not the greatest fan of sweet stuff and she’d usually only be granted a cake for birthdays. “You should see her wedding cakes! She made one for my cousin’s wedding earlier this year and it was so pretty.” How her cousins coped with having all these sugary delights in the house that they weren’t able to eat, she did not know.
It was maybe a stupid question as she doubted that the faculty would’ve chosen someone irresponsible to be a student leader but she doubted that they were all the same. “I’d agree” she nodded, once again scouring her way down the list of names. “But you never know, there might have been someone at Hogwarts who was secretly an evil genius who wanted to take over the world.”

"Yeah, I'd love to see them." Wedding cakes were often really cool-looking. Actually, cakes in general were. It was pretty impressive what people could shape them into. And how great they could taste too, of course! That was the most important part.
Even if they seemed to agree that most of the student leaders were probably responsible and good people, Ezra didn't think it was a stupid question to wonder. There were probably lots of traits that these people had that made them different from each other too. People were individuals after all! Buuut he wasn't great at figuring out what those might be, and he didn't want to assume potentially negative things about these people he didn't know, who he assumed led fairly normal and successful lives. It seemed a safe assumption since he didn't spot any that he'd seen in the Daily Prophet being arrested for nefarious crimes they'd committed. But there was always a possibility! "That's true. Maybe they're still keeping it secret and haven't set their plans into motion yet." Or maybe they had and that was still secret too! Hmm....

Aurora unfortunately didn’t have both the occasion or the means for transporting a full multi-tiered wedding cake to Hogwarts and she feared that doing so would somehow upset the tirelessly working house elves anyway. “Maybe I’ll ask her to make me one for my sixteenth” she pondered. She was both lucky and unlucky enough to have a birthday in the middle of the school’s summer break. It was great that she got to be home with her family but the distance between herself and her friends entirely spread across the country was not so positive. It had come to her attention several times that maybe she should arrange a birthday gathering at her parents home so that she could be with both her friends and family simultaneously. “One year she made me a unicorn cake and the year before that was a pair of ice skates.” She’d never not be fascinated by the talents that some people possessed.
She took a couple of steps over, fingers running along the cabinet displays until she paused in front of the Quidditch trophies. She unfortunately didn’t know anything about the sport and was not a natural talent on the broomstick so any names flew over her head instantaneously. She was surprised that the Claws seemed to have a natural affinity to the sport when a lot of her peers seemed to enjoy the vicinity of the common room over being outside.
“I wouldn’t be able to match the name to an evil genius anyway” she giggled lightly. It was a hindrance in History of Magic that was for sure. “But they could be subtly enacting their plan for world domination behind our backs.” Subtlety was not a word that sat comfortably in Aurora’s vocabulary.

"That sounds like a good idea." Seemed like the perfect way to get an awesome birthday cake, having a professional baker in the family. He'd probably ask that person for a cake too if he had the opportunity. Even if he wasn't sure what he'd actually want the cake to look like. He usually only focused on the flavor. "Whoa, those sound cool. Was the unicorn cake the same size as a unicorn?" 'Cause imagining a giant unicorn-sized cake was awesome. Or maybe it was just a smaller normal-cake-size version, which was still neat.
Ezra followed along with her as she wandered over to the Quidditch trophy section, watching her for a brief moment before turning his eyes to the display too. It was unfortunate that there didn't seem to be as many for Gryffindor as the other houses, at least not in the past few decades. But that was the way the cookie crumbled and what-not. There were a lot of great players throughout the years in all of the houses, considering there was no shortage of people trying out for the pro Quidditch teams. Not that he was one of them, even if he enjoyed watching the games on occasion.
History of Magic was, secretly, one of his stronger subjects, but none of those names jumped out at him as recent evil geniuses, at least not to his recollection. But that was the thing about the "secret" part, yeah? The niceness could be part of the act to keep it secret. "Yeah, maybe they'll show up any day now with an evil laugh and a monologue to reveal that they're about to take over the world." Every good villain needed a good evil laugh and monologue after all.

A unicorn sized cake would’ve been quite the spectacle but a nightmare on so many levels. For starters, allowing Aurora to consume that amount of sugar was already a terrible idea. She also didn’t have enough acquaintances to make the giant cake worthwhile and there would’ve been an awful lot of waste. Finally, a realistic unicorn cake being sliced open would just make her sad and being sad on your birthday was basically a crime against humanity! “No, just a normal sized one with a pink and purple mane and edible glitter eyelashes.” As easily pleased as a child as she was now, Aurora would’ve been thrilled whether it looked terrible or not but Aunt Kat was as skilled as they came. Her Aunt was also a kindly soft touch and had Aurora asked her to bake her friends a cake, she likely would have.
There were too many numbers and places and birthdays and snippets of information to remember in History of Magic for the fifth year to get a decent grade. It didn’t mean she didn’t enjoy the subject, especially as far as the theatrics of Professor Fergersnout was concerned, but it wasn’t one of those subjects she automatically clicked with. Also a lot of history was tainted with sadness and she was too optimistic for that.
“I’ve always wondered why villains in movies give a long speech about their intentions before they get on with it. It’s like they are purposefully giving the heroes the opportunity to thwart their plan.” She pondered out loud, finding a spot on the stone floor to settle cross-legged onto after performing a cushioning charm for the both of them. “I mean it’s very generous of them, thoughtful even. Maybe there’s no such thing as a villain and really they WANT to get caught.” She’d never watched a movie where the hero didn’t win but perhaps that was more to do with the sheltering that her parents gave her rather than being the norm.

It probably was in fact unrealistic to make a life-sized unicorn cake, considering the amount of cake and everything else that would take. And he hadn't taken into account how it might look to kids for one to be sliced. Perhaps something that was cooler in theory than in actuality. "Hopefully the glitter didn't get everywhere," he said with a chuckle. Assuming it was in some kind of frosting, he figured it was probably safe, but you never know. Glitter had its ways of getting all over the place.
Ezra considered her villain analysis as he sat down next to her. The cushioning charm was a nice touch. If he didn't know better, he wouldn't have realized that he was sitting on a stone floor. "Good point. They could be regretting their life choices and hoping someone will stop them before they do something really bad." But also, if that was the case, then they could just...decide to stop themselves? But maybe in some cases there were other forces at play too. "And maybe they just really want someone to compliment how smart they are. They put all this effort into a big elaborate plan, so maybe they want to be appreciated."

Although to the normal individual glitter might have been a hindrance, Aurora quite enjoyed life covered in sparkles. It was true that she’d be finding it in every crack and crevice of her room, adorning her hair and settled on her eyelashes but in her opinion it brightened her day and she did not mind adding a sprinkle of sparkle to others. “It’s the edible kind so it’s kinda sticky and stays on the icing.” And it tasted delicious as well as looking beautiful. “When I was younger I thought it was the same as normal glitter so I assumed that it was all edible. I remember pouring a whole tube on my tongue and it tasted plasticky and getting stuck and having to drink loads of water to get it out my mouth. I was pooping glitter for days” she giggled. Was that too much information? Most likely. But Aurora wouldn’t be Aurora without her crazy anecdotes and her openness towards her friends.
Besides, they wouldn’t be very good friends if they judged her for her antics.
Even in films, most villains had a reason to become so. Most of the time she felt sorry for them, they were often unloved and unsupported or had the right ideals but went about them in completely the wrong way. Maybe if they were given more hugs as children they wouldn’t have so many issues as adults. “I don’t believe that anyone is born evil and that nature changes the way that they feel. So if we were to be kind to everyone in the world, there would be no such thing as evil.” She was rather naive in her thoughts but also a natural optimist who saw the good in everyone. “The good people usually always win, they do in movies anyway.” As for true evil, Aurora had been sheltered from their existence anyway.

Edible glitter? People made that? Huh. That was pretty neat then, especially if it stayed in place. If only all glitter was edible, that might solve a lot of problems. Like eating it, which sounded like something he would've done as a kid too, so the image of pooping glitter was even more hilarious. He burst out laughing. "That's amazing! Though I'm sure it wasn't as fun at the time." He could just imagine the plastic taste and texture of it in his mouth. Definitely not as delicious as cake frosting.
Ezra listened as Aurora continued on, and he found himself agreeing with her, at least for the most part. He didn't think people were born evil either. Humans were too complex for it to be that simple. And if more people were kind to everyone, that probably would make the world a much better place overall. So he didn't disagree on that. But maybe that last statement wasn't entirely true. "Yeah. Sometimes even in movies they don't though...not that I can actually think of any where the bad guys win in the end." Sure, sometimes in the middle of a series the bad guys were winning by the end of a particular film, but usually by the end of the series the good guys still won. He was sure there had to be some stories where the bad guys did ultimately win though.

The taste was nowhere near as good as she had hoped but the whole experience was positively hilarious. “My biggest dream at that age was to become a Unicorn so I guess it made me feel closer to achieving that goal” Because obviously young Aurora assumed that Unicorn excrement was glittery too and that their burps were consistent of puffs of rainbow clouds. Had she not recently gained real life experience with the majestic creatures it would likely that she still had those thoughts. Sadly reality had squashed those dreams but it didn’t make meeting the real deal any less exciting. She was glad that Ezra found her story as entertaining as she did though.
Aurora’s movie viewing experience was mostly the happily ever after type, where the villains were always defeated and the girl always got her prince. It was only natural that her opinion would be skewed towards the optimistic. “I did say usually win. Although I too can’t think of a single movie where they didn’t.” And her muggle grandparents had an extensive collection of vintage films that the girls used to sit in front of when the couple were babysitting, likely the origin story for Aurora’s love for fairytales and romances and adventures in lands far far away. “Did your parents let you watch muggle films too?” She was a fifth year and yet it still slipped her mind that some of her classmates had little exposure to the muggle world. She’d never thought to ask whether others had muggle blood lines because it had never mattered to the Ravenclaw.

He laughed again. "I definitely respect going after your dreams, so I don't blame you for trying." Even if it was the sort of thing that kids dreamed up for their future, there were probably worse or more dangerous things she could've attempted, so eating glitter wasn't too bad all things considered. Ezra remembered how he had wanted to be a superhero T-rex when he was a little kid and all the goofy stuff he made up when he pretended to be one. It was pretty funny in hindsight.
"We should see if we can look some up later." He was too curious now not to find out if there were films or other stories out there where the bad guys won. Surely there had to be at least a few, considering how many were created every year, even if it was some really obscure film. As for watching films himself? "Oh yeah, loads," he answered.
