Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: wand fitting instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: example post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You do not have to RP to get your wand, but it is highly encouraged as a part of enriching your RP experience.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

⌦ If you have any questions, feel free to PM sweetpinkpixie or one of the Diagon Alley Proprietors, and they'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as they can.

⌦ Have fun!

Of course, no magic came out of that makeshift wand. Her magic manifested when she desired something a lot. Or when her emotions were frazzled.

But now...now she'd have her wand and be able to channel her own magic. And blow things up. Use fire. Freeze stuff. Levitate. Transfigure. Ohhhhh, the things she'd be able to do!

Walking up to the measuring area, Antonella spread her arms and waited while her mother and brother stood aside. This was her moment. This was THE moment.

Zeke stifled a yawn as he emerged from the back room to the area behind the counter, having just ducked in to put a few wand boxes back into their rightful places. There was no real need to do so right then, he knew, especially given it was the busiest period of the year, but they really had been driving him doolally just sitting there on the counter. Perhaps because he had slept so poorly the night before.

Any signs of tiredness seemed to evaporate the moment he was back on the shop floor, however. Zeke was nothing if not a professional. He met the parchment with its newest set of measurements, plucking it from the air as it zoomed towards him, nodding thoughtfully to himself as he scanned the information there. For just one more moment, he ducked back into the back room, emerging once more with a new wand box, before approaching the next customer.

"Hello there!" he said, with his usual warm smile, already working off the top of the box. "Ready to find your new wand? I have one right here for you to try." Zeke held the now open box to the girl, offering the wand inside. "Give this a wave, and let's see how you get on. Tell me what you think."

"Hello," she greeted serenely, appearing to be the typical well-mannered pure-blood child her mother had "raised". The woman was watching her with keen eyes and Antonella could feel them on her. That same woman had no idea her baby girl was planning to test and experiment with magic and its limitations...and she might not be happy with it. It was okay, though. Her mother will be happy one day when she becomes a powerful witch, saving the wizarding world.

With a nod, she gently plucked the wand from its box and gave it a wave. She felt an uncomfortable zap as it gushed a nasty wind from its end. Antonella quickly set it back. Nope. She did not like that one. "I don't think it likes me," she said. Then quickly added with a whisper, hoping her mother wouldn't hear, "Could wizards who haven't gone to school yet get in trouble for doing magic with their new wand? Asking for a friend." Just a yes or no would suffice. She didn't need her mother knowing she asked this.

Years and years - decades - in this profession, and Zeke still had to practically restrain himself from rubbing his hands together eagerly when it came to the moment a young witch or wizard was testing out their first wand. No matter the outcome, he was always curious about what would happen, whether it meant a matched wand or something that would eventually lead them down that path.

It wasn't long before they saw results with this wand, albeit not the most favourable - at least for his young customer. "Not to worry," Zeke said bracingly, putting the lid back on the box and setting it aside. He was about to move away, already with his mind on the next likely suspect, but paused for a moment when he realised he was being asked a whispered question.

Clearly this was a question for his ears only, but Zeke's only real nod to the secrecy was that he refrained from glancing towards the girl's guardian; whispering his own answer was not only likely to be noticed, it was also likely to seem conspiratorial. He kept his words vague, while also avoiding any overt encouragement. "It's not usual, or likely. Possible, though." And this was the truth; many children tested out their new wands as soon as they got them, but, especially before receiving magical instruction, they were unlikely to do more than the most basic of spells, nor get into more trouble than they might with their own, raw, accidental magic. He'd never heard of any getting into (non-parental) trouble for doing so, perhaps for that exact reason.

With that, he gave a small smile and then made a beeline for a particular shelf, returning moments later with the next wand. "Let's try this one next." he said, opening it up and offering her the second wand. "Same again, then; away you go."

Having her birthday in October was sometimes a bit disappointing, even if Aurora knew that all her siblings could relate. Except the triplets had had their wands forever now, so it was only her and Damien who had needed to wait a whole year after their birthday before they could get theirs. Or at least it had felt like a whole year. Mama and Dad hadn’t budged on letting them get their wands before they could officially start Hogwarts, but today was the day.

The smol auburn-haired girl had bounced into the queue, glancing back at the family members who had accompanied herself and her twin on this trip. Plus, she’d wanted to make sure her twin was there with her, or at least there in the queue with her to get his wand too.

She’d let his hand go when it was her turn to be measured, though. Some things were better off done on her own, and it wasn’t as if she wanted Damien’s measurements mixed up with hers. She wanted her own wand.

With a cheerful ding!, Zeke slid the drawer of the cash register shut, having finished up with his most recent customer. But there was no rest for the wicked - or the lesser wicked entity of the wandmaker - and so it was back towards the measuring area so that he could call forward his next customer.

"Hello there," he greeted the girl who held that happy status, beaming and plucking the parchment of measurements out of the air so that he could consult them. With a few 'mhm's and 'aha's along the way, he soon reached the necessary conclusions. "Give me just a moment," he said to his customer, before striding away to scan the shelves. He found the box he wanted, slid it from the stacks, and returned.

"Here we are, then," he said brightly, popping the lid off of the box and holding it out to offer the wand inside. "You know what to do? Just give this a wave and we'll see what happens. Let me know if it feels... right."

Not usual. Likely. Possible.

Hmmmmmmmm.

To take the risk or not. She probably was, to be honest. It's not like they'd send her to Azkaban, and if they did, then she'd be the youngest witch there. She was breaking boundaries all around. Antonella nodded at the man, a thoughtful look on her face. It didn't give away what her future intentions were. If she was going down she didn't want to take the wandmaker with her. Who'd give kids their wands? It was like taking Santa Claus down with her. Of course, the red man wasn't real (she knew that now), but the wandmaker was.

She whispered a thanks and took the new wand offered to her. This time her mind was a bit more distracted. Would she attempt a fire spell or summoning charm? She was probably too young to make either of those work, but it didn't hurt to try, right? It was as if the new wand was trying to egg her on. A comfortable warmth spread up her fingers, to her hand and up her arm. Antonella felt all warm and fuzzy and no longer wanted to burn the world down. A giggle escaped her and looked up at the wandmaker with bright green eyes. "I like this one."

She was still half-distracted by her brother, along with the curiosity over the measurements the tape had been taking regarding herself, when the cheerful greeting from the shopkeeper had brought Aurora back to reality. “Hi!”, she greeted back, craning to attempt to see the measurements one last time as he had begun perusing them. The sounds he was making only made her that much more curious, but he had strode off before she could ask what the tape was telling him.

Because she thought she knew how wands worked. Even if so far she’d only been able to play with toy wands, she knew how to read. “For me?”, she asked, as he held the box out. Obviously it was, but it didn’t hurt to check. Plus, she hadn’t seen anyone else get measured yet. She took a deep breath before reaching out to delicately take the wand from the box, only after it was free from it letting it slip further into her grasp. Where it immediately felt at home. It felt like it belonged there, but she still carefully gave it a wave.

And a single bluebird appeared, flying in a circle before perching on the box and chirping. Oh hi.

A giggle escaped her and looked up at the wandmaker with bright green eyes. "I like this one."

Zeke was not entirely sure what to make of that thoughtful look on the girl's face, but then, on reflection, decided he would rather not know. This was an experience he was fairly familiar with regarding his own two angelic daughters, not that he'd ever admit it to them.

So it was as an unwitting co-conspirator - with an equally unwitting mutual zipped-lips policy - that Zeke turned his undivided attention to the business of wands. Speaking of which, as he watched and waited for the wand to be tested out, he couldn't help but wonder if... hmm... maybe?

Yes indeed. Zeke grinned at the girl and met her proclamation with an, "Excellent. Then it certainly sounds like a match to me." This was certainly one of those customers he trusted to know what was what. He held the box out again so the wand might be put back and rung up, launching into his spiel as he did so.

"Now then. Your wand is eleven inches and one third of sturdy hornbeam, with a griffin claw core. Hornbeam is particularly excellent for defensive spells, and you might be interested to hear that it tends to be attracted to particularly visionary and dedicated individuals." Did he think the wand had chosen in that vein in this situation? No comment. Well, maybe one - unspoken - comment, because he thought he sensed the ambitious, determined vibe in this one. Also, one more comment, spoken this time. "Another interesting observation by wandmakers is that hornbeam owners tend to be so passionate and dedicated to their goals that they will in fact achieve them, though often other important aspects of life can fall to the wayside." Not really anything to do with the wand but... well, he did occasionally think it his duty to share such observations. Back to business though. "You'll see this driven nature reflected in the loyalty of this wand; hornbeam adapts more quickly to almost any other to the owner's style of magic, so that other people will find it extremely difficult to use it even for simple spells. You'll also find it won't perform acts that don't reflect your own principles for this same reason. Interestingly, the griffin claw makes this wand doubly difficult to pass on to another owner, as it will bond very closely with you." A very loyal, very driven wand. "Griffin claw wands often choose those able to cast spells with finesse, so you'll likely find that spells with delicate wand movements will feel most natural. And, again, protection spells and shields are some of the easier spell types with this core. It's ill-suited to dark magic or more nefarious endeavours, however."

There was no judgement in his tone as he said this, and no assumption either. Just the facts of the wand, followed by an encouraging smile. "The wand by itself is 10 galleons, and we have some other products and services available too."

"For you," Zeke confirmed, giving another little smile and a nod. He watched as the girl lifted the wand from the box, waiting expectantly for some sign or another that would tell them if this was the right wand, if they were on the right track, or if they needed to look elsewhere.

And, as it turned out, there really was no need to look elsewhere, unless Zeke's eyes, ears, and general spidey-sense were all deceiving him. He beamed at the little bird and then at his young customer. "Unless I'm very much mistaken, we've found your wand," he said, experimentally holding out a finger to brush lightly at the bluebird's feathers, before carefully holding out the wandbox-perch so she could do the same, if she wanted. "Congratulations are in order."

Also in order? The specifications of said wand. "Now, then. What you have there is eleven-and-three-quarter inches of robust beech, with a unicorn hair core. Beech really is delightful; it encourages learning and knowledge, often in obscure lore. You might find, if you take the subject, that rune magic will come easy to you, as beech tends to choose those who are tolerant and open-minded to new ideas." Well. It wasn't just that it tended to choose those individuals, it was that the wand wouldn't perform as well for someone not so inclined. "This wood has quite the lustrous reputation, given the artistry and subtlety present in its magic. You rarely see it to that extent in other woods. It might also interest you to know that beech owners tend to make excellent leaders, and possess creative souls." Usually, at least. Still! Generally nice to hear that sort of thing, right? "And, of course, this wood pairs excellently with the core. Unicorn hair is very in tune with subtle and delicate magic, though not well-suited to bolder or flashier magic, or the dark arts. Unicorn hair wands are very faithful to their owners, and very consistent in their magic. Well suited to charms and transfigurations and excellent for healing spells. Not as much raw power as some other cores, but combined with beech, this is a wand capable of some really radiant magic." A sort of gentle power to it, he supposed. A gentle and cerebral wand for a gentle and cerebral owner. Generally speaking.

"The wand by itself will be 10 galleons," Zeke said, beckoning the customer towards the cash register as he headed there himself. "Is there anything else you're interested in buying today?"

Wow... this place was amazing and she was in awe by everything that she was seeing in the small place called Diagon Alley. With all her supplies on her trolley she crossed out all her items until she seen she had to get her wand, Joey told her to save it for last cause the magical experience was worth it. Following her big brother towards the shop, she skipped happily in as the bell jingle above them.

Looking around, she seen the place was packed and wondered how so many people could fit into this tiny little spot. Laughing herself silly, she realized it was magic all magic. Waiting nervously in line holding her big brother's hand, she watched the magical measuring tape measure others before her with interest and amazement.

As it was her turn, she stumbled a bit out of nervousness as she looked at her big brother as he gave her a comforting smile. Walking forward she let the measuring tape do it's job as she giggled as it tickled her a couple of times. "You know Mr. Measuring tape, you're silly definitely know how to make people laugh!" Was it weird she was talking to magical measuring tape? Nah...she didn't think so.

Not at all weird, in Zeke's entirely balanced opinion. Definitely not in the habit of conversing with the magical measuring tape himself, nosiree.

The man himself turned away from the cash register, closing it with a flourish upon finishing up business with his last customer. He definitely seemed almost giddy, even for a man with a Diagon Alley business in the middle of the summer season. Great events were on the horizon, and, as much as he loved his usual daily routine, all his plans had put him in an excellent mood that had not been dampened in the few months since the wheels had started to be put in motion.

But that was all future business for future Zeke, when right now he had another customer who deserved his undivided attention. With a pep in his step, the wandmaker made his way to the customer in question, greeting her with a broad smile. "Hello there," he said genially, scooping up those all important measurements so he could scan through them. "Let's see what we have here, then... aha... Wonderful. If you'll give me just a moment."

And, just like that, he was off again, across the shop floor where he had homed in on a particular wand box. He stretched up onto his tiptoes to reach it, manoeuvred it out of the shelves, and was back within the promised moment. "Here we are. You know what to do?" Zeke asked the girl, and he popped the lid off the box and held it out so that she might pick up the wand that lay nestled inside it. "Just give it a wave, and tell me what you think." And, of course, they might just see.

After several measurements and giggling, she waited patiently to see what wand he picked out for her. Although she didn't wait long, she looked at the wand tilting her head curiously she took the wand and looked at her big brother who nodded and smiled warmly. Taking the wand out of the box, she held it in her hand before she waved it as it sparked and sputtered as she jumped and put the wand quickly down. Blushing like mad, she backed away from the wand some. "S...Sorry! I didn't mean to!" Her emerald eyes hiding behind her hair in embarrassment.

Oh Merlin, she was so embarrassed that happened in front of everyone. She wanted to hide in the corner somewhere, away from people. "I...I don't think that wand likes me very much." She wondered how many Wands she'll have to try before she found her perfect wand. Joey her big brother told her he had to do four wands before he found his perfect wand.

Default Welcome to summer 2119!
astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf

The bell above the door gave its familiar, delicate chime he unlocked it and tested the hinges Victor paused just inside the threshold, inhaling the warm and holding it in his chest for a few counts ― mornings like this were not to be rushed, of course.

There was something particular about the stretch of summer. The way the light slipped in earlier and filtered through the tall, dusty windows in long golden beams, catching in the suspended motes of dust and forest of wand boxes stacked from floor to ceiling. The shop seemed to breathe with it, like something on the cusp of frondescence... not in leaf but in spirit.

A small mile, more in his eyes than upon his lips, settled into place.

"Good morning," he murmured to no one, but not entirely to himself either.

He moved next to the windows, coaxing them open just enough to invite the distant murmur of Diagon Alley beginning to stir and the promise of heat not yet settled into the day in. Summer carried its own special kind of clientele. Bright, untamed magic that hadn't yet learned the shape of itself ― the joy of first wands.

His favorite kind.

His swift strides brought him back over to the counter where his knuckles tapped thrice against the worn countertop. "Rise and shine," he sang, a beat of silence before the cream colored length gave a reluctant twitch. "Suppose I could find another measuring tape if someone is too tired..." The tape perked at that, unspooling itself with a dramatic little snap and then promptly attempting to loop around Victor's wrist in what could generously be called a hug.

"So kind of you to join me," he chuckled.

Victor let the tape slip from his grasp, its end still twitching with barely-contained eagerness, before settling his weight back against the counter. One shoulder angled, one hand slipping into his pocket while the other held a ledger. His thumb idly tracing its edge as his eyes moved over familiar entries, reviewing more out of habit than necessity while he waited.

OOC: For all wand hopefuls don't forget to check the first post for wand fitting instructions. Victor and I are looking forward to your patronage!

Finally!

El had reached the age where he was able to have a wand of his own. Of course he hadn’t been using anyone’s… unless you counted those random trick wands one could score at a joke shop. Having heard about what the wand fitting process was like from his various family members, the budding first year knew what to expect. What had been undersold to him, was the impressive inventory of wands that was stashed there. One could say that his jaws were slightly unhinged. It blew his mind just thinking about the endless combinations of wood and cores used to create them.

Eloy’s gawking was suddenly interrupted by the appearance of the measuring tape. “Oh! HEY, you!” He’d almost forgotten about its existence but it didn’t need to hear that. The tape had already gotten to work; its first stop being his forehead, measuring the width of it. Eloy was quite delighted to watch the movements as it flitted about doing its thing. But was it really necessary to know the length of his respective eyebrows? He threw a questioning, amused glance at his dad and made a mental note to ask him what his own experience with the tape had been like.

When the thing zoomed off to the next person after some time, El knew it was only a matter of time before the shopkeeper was ready to assist him.

Saina may look utterly calm on the outside but on the inside? She was positively bubbling over with excitement and anticipation. The lambent smile on her round face was enough to confirm her feelings. She paused just within the threshold of the shop, one arm clinging to her daddy. Now, Sai may look pretty much like her mama, but she was her daddy’s princess through and through. “The tape is a little weird,’’ she whispered to him, giggling as she watched it measure a boy’s eyebrows. “Is that really necessary to do that?”

But Sai held nothing against the tape. In fact, she found it quite delightful. Especially when it was her time to hold its attention. She was still shaking with silent giggles but was still somewhat disappointed when it omitted checking the length of her brows; it opted to measure the circumference of her head which… didn’t seem bad at all. The girl stood positively still, except for her light blue eyes which did their best to follow the tape as it continued its job.

But eventually that came to an end. This meant that Sai would soon be trying out wands! Squeee!

Tyler was looking forward to getting his wand. He and his twin, Tiana, would be getting their own set. He wouldn't admit it, but he was jealous of his older brother getting to do all the cool tricks at school. Now it was his turn! After arriving with his parents, they waited outside until he got through the process.

"Good luck, sis!" Not that she needed it. She was his twin, and he had full confidence in her. But first it was his turn to get measured.

Doing the T-pose, Ty could feel the tape dance around him. Two others seemed to be in the same boat in it feeling out of the ordinary. "You better not laugh, Mr. measuring tape." Some people were sensitive about their looks, ahem. Not him, if you asked.

Victor did not interrupt the boy’s wonder.

If anything, there was an obvious hint of approval in the way he watched, offering the boy's father a polite nod of the head in greeting as well as respect ― obviously doing something wonderful in raising this one.

"Curiosity suits you," he as he stepped forward, the measuring tape snapping obediently back into his hand. Though it did give a small, reluctant wiggle toward Eloy before settling. Probably wanted to measure eyebrows again.

Victor turned then, the measuring tape set back down on the counter before long strides took him to nearby shelf. He hand reached unerringly for a box along the middle of a tower of wands and carefully wiggled it loose and releasing little tendrils of dust into the air. He slipped the lid off and gave the whole box a couple of firm pats before offer its contents to the boy.

"This one feels like a fine place to start," he hummed.

With any luck, this wand had been waiting all that time on the shelf gathering dust just for this curious little fellow.

Victor's gaze softened the moment it landed on her.

Children who clung were not uncommon, Marina had been exactly the same, but there was something something effervescent even in her stillness. This would be a fun little fitting.

"The tape has its… opinions," he chuckled as the measuring tape reluctantly uncoiled from her and slithered back to him. "And it does know its work very well, so perhaps refraining from using weird in the future. I prefer to frame it as... overly attentive."

He moved to the opposite of the shop, selecting a box after only a moment's consideration between two options. When he returned, he crouched just enough to meet her where she stood.

"For you," he smiled, opening the box and revealing a wand, the light catching softly along its grain. "Go ahead and give it a try."

Victor let the tape finish its work, though, at the boy's warning, there was the barest twitch at the corner of his mouth.

"Not to worry," he said smoothly, catching the tape between his fingers just before it could attempt another enthusiastic loop, "it will not laugh at you."

Whether that assurance was strictly true... or merely a convenient courtesy, given the tape’s total lack of a mouth... was, perhaps, a distinction best left unexplored.

He wound it neatly back into his palm, retrieving overzealous instruments an entirely routine part of the process, while he regarded the boy.

"Mmhmm, definitely ―" he conceded, pivoting away.

In the same motion, he caught the ladder and went up it in a smooth practiced climb, hands barely seeming to pause on the rungs before he reached the top. A box was retrieved from a high shelf and with equal ease he descended... not by the steps so much as past them, sliding down the side rail and landing with a pleasant little thud.

"This won't laugh at you either," he promised, easing it open and angling the contents toward the boy. "Go on and give it a confident little flick. See what happens."

Swedishfish Girl! ❄ Page-Turning Seamstress ❄ Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede!

The day had finally come, Tiana was going to get her own wand from Ollivanders together with her twin brother. She was excited, but also a little nervous because what if no wand chose her, but that couldn't happen, could it?

Tiana had arrived with their parents and her twin a little earlier, and now stood and watched as Ty went through the measuring process. Giggling a little she called out "Did the tape just touch your hair, bro?"

When it was her time to step into the measuring area Tiana followed the tape with her eyes as it began zapping around her, and measuring her body from feet to head. When the tape measured the length between her nostrils it tickled so much that she sneezed out "Atchoooo! Oops sorry Mr Tape Sir!" Before the tape continued on it's way with measuring her arms that she held out, and ending with the width of her mouth. Why measure her mouth?

Eloy possibly would have spent a much, much longer time gawking if it hadn’t been for the shopkeeper’s words, which the boy was grateful for. His eyes flicked towards the tape in the man’s hand, in time to catch the tail-end of its wiggle. “Thank you,’’ El replied cheerfully, and a lot pleased with the compliment. He might not be curious about everything but that tape? You bet! “Has that co-worker of yours always been that bubbly about its job?’’ he asked, now watching as the man picked out a box with ease. How did he know which wand would be the potential fit for Eloy?

Nevertheless, he curbed that curiosity of his which seemed to have gone through an unexpected metamorphosis the second he had stepped into the shop. “Thanks,’’ El remarked in acceptance of the wand. “Wish me luck!’’ Knowing that it needed to be given a wave, he did just that: a graceful one from left to right.

The instantaneous result was not at all a flattering one. A LOUD wet raspberry echoed through the place causing him to freeze.

“Uh… excuse me?” Even though technically that was NOT him that had made the sound. El shook the wand then held it out. “Definitely not the one.”

Sai’s face fell as the tape flitted away. Didn’t it have to measure her some more? Perhaps the length of each of her phalanges? She so would have dearly loved to watch it continue its job. “It has every right to have opinions, Mister,’’ she remarked earnestly. Weird is off of my list of descriptions for it,’’ she added, shooting the tape an apologetic look. “I think your friend there is the perfect amount of attentive, and made me feel very welcome at your shop.”

As did the man himself.

Saina’s bright smile returned when he offered her the wand that could very well be hers. “Why, thank you, kind Sir.’’ The little giggle she made was followed by an audible gasp as her eyes moved to the wand sitting in the box. “It’s absolutely gorgeous!” It was lifted daintily, her fingers softly curling over the top. A gentle wave was made. Sadly, the effect was that of a disastrous nature.

A rather blinding flash of light illuminated the shop. It startled poor Sai which made her clutch the wand tightly so that angry sparks emitted from the tip. Needless to say, it was dropped immediately. “I’m sorry!” Rubbing her eyes furiously to clear them, she just didn’t have time to retrieve the object.

And she was so sad about inconveniencing the shopkeeper

See, Tyler could see where things would be going as he felt very sus about the tape. His posing nearly interrupted by him feeling the wind across him and his hair. Tiana's giggle had him turn his head, "I sure felt it! It didn't mess up my hair, right Tiana?" It was just at the right stage of where wash and go suited it.

"Er, thanks!" The wandmaker sure seemed jolly. Though, it would make sense for someone to want to work here to be happy. "Sir, I won't tell a soul, but do you get to have a fun ride on the ladder during your breaks?" It would be something he'd do. But now he had a wand to test.

"Well, as long as you promised!" No laughing from this wand. Tyler gave it a little flick in the direction of the nearby table away from others and-

BOOM

All he saw was black smoke with the bang. He coughed until the smoke subsided. There likely was a large black spot on that table now. "Erm... sorry... that won't be added to my tab, right?" He was just a little kid, after all.

Op. That certainly drew his attention.

"Salud," he offered the girl, Victor's gaze shifting as the measuring tape recoiled just slightly before remembering its duties and finishing with a final indignant flick. "…you are being quite thorough today," he murmured, retrieving it before it could attempt a retaliatory measurement of her eyelashes.

His attention returned to the girl, offering her a fresh handkerchief in a soft verdurous green, its clean color evoking the gentle freshness of new spring leaves. "Just a moment," he smiled before turning and surveying the bottom-most row along the left side of the shop, selecting a box with deliberate care.

When he returned, he slid the lid off and offered the wand within to her.

"Let us see how you fare with this one."

"As long as I have been here,” Victor nodded, casting a glance towards the measuring tape, "it has always been… enthusiastic."

Truly groundbreaking revelations, to be sure. A measuring tape that enjoyed measuring.

Victor was trying really, really hard not to laugh. There were many sound produced during fittings, but usually those had to do with explosions and things breaking. This was a pleasant change of pace ― once he imagined several other customers would be positively enthralled with and call it a successful match.

Not the case here, obviously, and there was the faintest narrowing of his eyes as though something had been confirmed rather than surprised him.

"Nope," he chuckled, taking the wand back the moment Eloy offered it. "Certainly not."

The wand was returned to it box, which was then set down on the counter. Victor moved around to one of the stacks near the front window and retrieved a different box before returning to the boy.

"Wands, like people, don't always quite know the best way to get someone's attention or express themselves," Victor continued as he opened it, "and sometimes, if the match isn't quite right, they'll fuss or make a rude little noise—not to be unkind, but to say, 'I don’t think we quite fit.'"

So hopefully it wouldn't be taken too much to heart.

He held it out the box for another attempt.

"—but that just means you can try again."

"Oof. Bit like looking directly into the sun, that."

The wand was retrieved before it could roll, the last of the sparks flickering harmlessly out as it settled back into his hand. Victor's gaze snapped back to the girl, concern softening his features as he quickly checked her hands.

"No need to apologize," he assured her warmly. "These things happen at fittings — rather often, in fact. You're quite unharmed, I hope? Fingers still where they ought to be?"

The wand was, needless to say returned to its box and set on the counter.

"That one simply… spoke too loudly. Perhaps more opinionated than even the measuring tape." He selected another and returned to her. "Let's try something gentler," he said, opening the next box and offering it to her.

Victor’s mouth twitched, the hint of a grin escaping despite his best effort at dignity.

"Ah," he said, lowering his voice as though the shelves themselves might be listening, "strictly speaking, the ladder and I maintain a very professional relationship." He leaned in just a fraction more. "But... on particularly long afternoons, when the shop grows quiet and the wands begin whispering their travel stories… I may permit it the occasional glide or two. Purely for inspection purposes, of course."

The boom did not so much echo as detonate through the shop, rattling shelves and sending a few boxes tumbled off their stacks. Victor's gaze snapped to the table, taking in the blackened scorch mark, the lingering curl of smoke… and then, just as quickly, to boy.

"…well," he said, stepping forward to pluck the wand neatly from the boy's hand before it could attempt a second KABOOM, "that was certainly decisive."

He turned the wand once between his fingers, inspecting it for any damage or strain along the grain, then settled it back into its box.

"Not to worry," Victor added, tone easing. "Some wands are rather fond of making ... loud impressions. Not the first time for blackened spots and certainly won't be the last."

His gaze flicked briefly to the spot on the table and then back to the boy.

"And that is all that was,” he continued, already reaching for another box. "An introduction. And not a particularly polite one." Victor slid the lid of box number two and offered it. "Let's try again. Perhaps this time, we aim for something a touch less… explosive."

‘Enthusiastic’ was certainly one way to describe that tape. ‘Eager beaver’ was another, and Eloy meant this in the absolute best way. However, the slight obsession he possessed about the tape had now evaporated now that he had more pressing matters on his hands. Finding the right wand, that is.

His gaze narrowed at the offending wand that had just farted. “There was no need for this wand to scream its rejection of me,’’ Eloy said with a slight shake of his head. He looked up at the shopkeeper and squinted. “You know, it’s okay to laugh. I see you want to.” His own lips were twitching upwards. “Just picture the smell of rotten eggs and smelly socks accompanying that sound…” Everyone in the shop might have fainted from that not-at-all nectarous scent.

His wait for the next one was not a long one. At the same time, El found himself latching onto Victor’s every word, each of which provided some clarity to his own earlier remark about the first wand announcing its rejection. “I think I understand,’’ he replied slowly and thoughtfully. “I bet they’re over the moon when they find their perfect human.” Eloy knew that wands were sensitive; maybe not exactly in the ways of humans but they were that way still. ‘Intuitive’ might actually be a better word. So no, he was doing just right and didn’t hold any grudges.

El wiggled the fingers of his dominant hand. “Here we go… again!” Grinning, this wand was given an identical wave. He should have known that things would go smoothly since the second his fingers came in contact with it, a sense of warmth bloomed through his hands, enveloping his entire body and soul in a quick span of time.

Golden dust drizzled softly from somewhere above, though they vanished when they came in contact with an object or person.

“It’s like it’s raining in stardust.” Eloy was awestruck, his eyes clouded with wonder as he gazed towards the ceiling.

Yes. This wand was definitely made for him.

Saina wanted to dissolve in tears. Not for the first time - and certainly not for the last - she found herself resenting her sensitive feelings. Firstly, it had made an appearance due to her immediate thoughts of being an inconvenience, and secondly, because of the fact that the shopkeeper was checking to ensure she had not been injured. Such kindness did not go unnoticed.

She managed a watery smile. “I imagine you’ve seen worse.’’ Thankfully she had not added to any woe of his, though it was crystal he would have been understanding still. “I’m okay. Phalanges are all intact,’’ Sai remarked, now that her vision was returning to its rightful state; her cheeks were bright red, however. This was due to embarrassment. “Thank you for asking.” Did everyone know how lucky they were to have this patient man seeing to their wand needs?

His next words elicited a short giggle from her. “Clearly. I hope it finds their rightful owner soon.” It must be quite lonely for wands to sit on shelves while they awaited someone, even if surrounded by hundreds, if not thousands, of other wands.

For the next wand, Sai was cautious. So. Very. Cautious.

A deep breath was taken to steady herself; only then was the wand lifted out of the box. There was an instant reminder of paintbrushes. Being an artist, it meant that she liked her brushes to fit snuggly in her hand while at the same time, they were able to get the job done to perfection. This was how it felt with the wand: that it would get any spellwork done for her. At the latter end of the wave, a bright blue heart appeared over her head for a few seconds. It then dispersed into blue glitter which showered down, possibly catching the shopkeeper too. And just when she was thinking that it would take forever to get the glitter out of her hair, it all vanished. Poof! Like nothing had happened.

“Looks like we have a winner,’’ Sai said softly.

Whilst waiting for her time with the wandmaker Tiana kept an eye on her twin. and called over reassuringly. "Your hair is fine bro." How Ty could be more worried about his hair than she was with her hair, was a mystery.

Ty got try his first wand out, and Tiana watched him flick it from afar and heard the following BOOM and saw smoke which caused her to cry out in exasperation, and worry. "Ty, are you all right?"

Tiana would have run over to her twin if the wandmaker hadn't chosen that exact time to turn his attention to her, and offering her a green handkerchief smelling of fresh leaves. "Thank you Sir," Tiana murmured gratefully before using the handkerchief to blow, and dry her nose. "Does sir tape always measure everyones nostrils?"

Minutes later the wandman came to her with her first wand to try out. Accepting it with slightly trembling fingers Tiana took a steadying breath before giving the wand a flick with her hand which caused a shower of water to sprout out from the wand tip. Suddenly standing in a small pool of water Tiana blushed up at the wandman "I'm so sorry, I really didn't think of water...I promise."

Inspection reasons. "Riiiight, inspect reasons. Got to keep it safe." Cue the exaggerated wink of understanding. It was now Tyler's turn to hide his smile at the thought of the grown man having wheeeeeeeeee-l good time. "Secret's safe with me."

Okay, yeah, that was alot. Ty wiped his eyes from the residue of black soot left. "I'm okay, Tiana." He said unworried. Since, that would've been quite an end to him, and a first, 11-year old soon-to-be-wizard, died by first attempt with wand. But it didn't happen, thankfully. "I bet this one will do it!"

Taking the wand, he felt more sure of himself. Instead of aiming at the furniture, he gave it a look over before he thought back to the assessment tests done at their primary school. Where they got to figure out if they were magical or not. Something like that happened with him again, the soft-electric surge through his arms. Closing his eyes, the warmth increased as a ray of light emitted from the wand.

"Whoa, now that was... something, right?" Looking back up. Miracously, the soot was erased from his face and hands from the previous failed attempt. But that was when he also noticed Tiana give her try at the wand...

Victor did not laugh, but the edges of his smile softened, the corners of his lips curving just enough to reveal the slightest flash of pearly whites. There was something undeniably amusing about the way the kid described the wand's earlier... protest. The memory both ridiculous and oddly charming.

"I am trying not to encourage it," he said, a chuckle flicking through his words. "If it had been accompanied by scent... we would all be having a very different morning."

He let the humor linger in the air for just a moment, watching the boy’s face as it shifted from uncertainty to something lighter, more entertained. What truly caught Victor’s attention, though, was how the kid recovered—not a hint of frustration, no hint of embarrassment either. Just curiosity reshaping itself. Victor nodded slightly to himself, impressed.

As the second wand settled into the boy's hand, Victor stilled, every part of him quieting. He did not interrupt the wonder. Did not speak over the soft fall of golden dust or the quiet awe in his voice. Instead, he watched not just the magic itself, but the connection forming in real time. He stepped closer, his chest lifting.

"Spruce," he explained, voice low and thoughtful. "14½ inches. Jarvey tooth core." He paused for a moment, his gaze flicking from wand to boy. "It is not… an easy wand," he went on. "It prefers a steady hand. One that knows what it wants, even when it hasn't quite decided how to get there. It will argue with you, on occasion. Not literally with words, but with the spells you want to perform and what ones it thinks you ought to perform... so you'll need a firm hand as well." His lips twitched slightly. "And it is rather fond of doing things with a bit of flair. You may find it takes a bit longer to master counter-curses, whereas its counterparts...may come with ease."

Victor's gaze softened, the ghost of that earlier fondness returning, and his thoughts flicked briefly to .the adults and mentors in this child's life. Sincerest apologies should this boy develop a particular fondness towards jinxes and hexes ― Ollivanders could not be held responsible.

"But," Victor said more softly, "it does not choose lightly. When it finds the right person, it is loyal — fiercely and ardently so ― and responds well to humor." His warm brown gaze settled more fully on the boy.

"Congratulations," he applauded, a sincere warmth rising in his chest. "Will that just be the wand for today? Or do you need a wand holster or other care items?"

"I certainly have," he he mused. "Though I find that each first attempt holds its own value."

It wasn't just the magical response he noticed, of course, but also the amount of conscious effort it took for her to steady herself. The way she carried herself and how that quiet resolve found its own rhythm ― while also wishing the wand well, that part was particularly darling.

And then it came.

The subtle bloom of magic, of course — but also something more. The way her posture relaxed, the guarded uncertainty fading into something more assured. Victor saw it immediately. The magic might have been delicate, but the change in her was much stronger.

As the last glittering traces of blue faded, adding a pleasant shimmer to his dark hair, he took a small step forward with a proper grin in place now. "Without a doubt." Victor ran a hand through his hair, his palm now lightly dusted in blue shimmer. "11¾ sturdy walnut with unicorn hair. A very adaptable wand. A wand that tends to favor those who think and feel in equal measure... creativity with intention." A small pause followed, just long enough for the weight of his words to settle. Then he added, "Unicorn hair cores are steady things. They respond well to care, to patience, and to people who don't force magical performance. And in return, they are remarkably loyal."

There was a softness in his gaze now, something like a quiet pride, though not for the wand itself, but for her. "It will do very well in your hands." He allowed for another quiet moment of her with her new wand before continuing. "And speaking of care... will you be needing anything else for your new companion today?"

Victor was already moving the moment the water sprang forth ― reflexes earned through an infant with a strong dislike for sweet corn puree. His wand flicked once and the pooling water vanished like a fleeting thought. A second, gentler wave of his hand followed, and the dampness at her shoes disappeared beneath the warmth his charmwork.

"There we go," he smiled. His gaze softened as it shifted back to her from her shoes. "You are quite all right. There is very little one can do to anticipate how a wand will respond the first time it is held."

His eyes flicked to the floor and he gave a slight tilt of his head, considering it with a quiet thoughtfulness. before he turned to the shelves and began new deliberations. "If a wand leans too strongly in one elemental direction," Victor explained, selecting another box, his fingers brushing over the edge before lifting it gently. "It is often wise to offer its opposite."

He opened the box, revealing the next wand. It wasn’t about fixing what had gone wrong, but about giving her another opportunity to find what was right.

"Try again," Victor said, softer still, his tone full of quiet confidence. "No apologies required this time."

Victor winked and then stood quietly of to the side as the boy took the next wand. It was there again, that familiar current, but it was steadier now, more directed. Victor could feel the difference in the air, the subtle tension of something finally aligning ― and then light bloomed forth from the wand, like the sun cresting the horizon.

"¡Viva!” Victor cheered. "13½ pliant elder with dragon heartstring from a Peruvian Vipertooth. It is not a wand that tolerates hesitation... nor does it lend itself to being ignored." With a small gesture, Victor gestured towards the area where the soot had vanished. "Elder wands are powerful," he continued, "They expect to be held by someone who can meet them in that. Strength, certainly — but also presence. A kind of certainty in oneself."

Which was a lot to put on someone so young, truly, but what a blessing it was to have a wand that would push you so much.

"Your dragon heartstring core...amplifies all that. It will make your wand one that has the potential to answer quickly, strongly"

Victor settled comfortably on his heels, hands clasped loosely behind his back, and his gaze softened as he smiled down at the boy.

"Will that be all for today?" he asked. "Or are there any accessories or holsters you'd also like to purchase?"

Miguel had given up closing his mouth, allowing it to stay open in pure amazement, since he'd stepped through the Leaky Cauldron's back courtyard and into Diagon Alley—but this? This was something else entirely.

The bell above the door to Ollivanders gave a soft, almost delicate chime as he pushed it open with his shoulder, already half-turned to snap a photo over it. The camera clicked rapidly in his hands—click, click, click—capturing the narrow shop, the impossibly tall shelves, the dust that seemed to hang in the air like it had been there for centuries.

"Okay, no, this is crazy," he said aloud, voice echoing just a bit too loudly. "There's no way this is real. This is like—this is like a movie set, but it's not—"

Another click. He tilted the lens upward, trying to catch the towering stacks of wand boxes that seemed to go on forever.

He took a few careful steps forward, shoes creaking faintly against the wooden floor, head constantly turning as if he might miss something if he stayed focused on one thing too long. The camera rose again almost instinctively. Click.

"That one's gonna look SO COOL," he muttered to no one in particular, adjusting the dial. "Wait. Do magical places mess with film? Ay, what if it does? What if all my pictures come out blank or, like, haunted or something?"

He froze for half a second because something had just brushed his shoulder. Slowly, Miguel turned. "Uhh..."

A measuring tape—thin, yellowed, and very much moving on its own—was winding its way up his arm.

"¡DIOS MÍO!" he blurted, half-laughing, half-panicking as he instinctively snapped a photo of it mid-motion. "IT'S—IT'S ALIVE!"
