Perhaps because he had slept so poorly the night before.
Any signs of tiredness seemed to evaporate the moment he was back on the shop floor, however. Zeke was nothing if not a professional. He met the parchment with its newest set of measurements, plucking it from the air as it zoomed towards him, nodding thoughtfully to himself as he scanned the information there. For just one more moment, he ducked back into the back room, emerging once more with a new wand box, before approaching the next customer.
"Hello there!" he said, with his usual warm smile, already working off the top of the box. "Ready to find your new wand? I have one right here for you to try." Zeke held the now open box to the girl, offering the wand inside. "Give this a wave, and let's see how you get on. Tell me what you think."
"Hello," she greeted serenely, appearing to be the typical well-mannered pure-blood child her mother had "raised". The woman was watching her with keen eyes and Antonella could feel them on her. That same woman had no idea her baby girl was planning to test and experiment with magic and its limitations...and she might not be happy with it. It was okay, though. Her mother will be happy one day when she becomes a powerful witch, saving the wizarding world.
With a nod, she gently plucked the wand from its box and gave it a wave. She felt an uncomfortable zap as it gushed a nasty wind from its end. Antonella quickly set it back. Nope. She did not like that one.
"I don't think it likes me," she said. Then quickly added with a whisper, hoping her mother wouldn't hear,
"Could wizards who haven't gone to school yet get in trouble for doing magic with their new wand? Asking for a friend." Just a yes or no would suffice. She didn't need her mother knowing she asked this.
