Vianna tilted her head slightly as Ferris held her back, checking his watch. The smile returned to her face as he announced the time and asked if she was hungry at all. "Not very much," she replied honestly. "But we should probably get going, then," she added with a nod, knowing the boy was probably a lot hungrier than she could be. Vianna's eyes then left his as she turned to pick up her things, but pure horror took over her features as she found no trace of Fluffy anywhere nearby. Remembering what had happened the last time the squirrel went missing in a shop, the girl felt herself beginning to panic. "Professor, I can't find Fluffy," she said, getting up to her feet hurriedly. |
OOC: We just passed post 1000 in this one! :pfd: Ferris smiled as she did, as it was always contagious with the two of them, and listened as she told him she wasn't very hungry but they should probably get going anyway. He started to stand up, getting to his feet just when he caught sight of Vianna's horror-stricken face. Stopping in his tracks as his brows furrowed he questioned her, "What's wrong?" When she explained that she couldn't find Fluffy his eyes widened. That squirrel could be anywhere in the store by now, hopefully he wasn't chewing up books. "You search this half of the store, I'll search the other," he concluded quickly before making his way speedily down the aisle. |
ooc: WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! :woot: Go us! :woot: Vianna nodded as Ferris instructed her to search through one half of the bookshop while he searched the other. She immediately moved on to the following aisle, searching carefully for any trace of her squirrel or any sight of a big, fluffy tail. But there was nothing. The girl sighed and then continued on to the next aisle; still no luck. She searched all the following aisles, but there was no trace of a squirrel or any other people on this side of the shop. |
Ferris only found a number of people on his side of the store, searching down aisle after aisle, a crease evident between his brows. If they didn't find this squirrel before the end of the night, they could potentially leave Fluffy behind. This force drove him to search every nook and cranny of every aisle...But there was nothing. He returned to the aisle he had left Vianna, brows still furrowed and arms crossed over his chest as he waited for her to return, hoping to see a bushy tail in her hands. OOC:  |
Vianna hurried back over to the aisle where she and Ferris had separated, relief on her features at the sight of Ferris already standing there waiting for her. He must have found Fluffy! But as she registered the sight of him completely empty-handed, the horror returned to her features. "You d-didn't find him?" she asked, her forehead beginning to crease with worry. What if a little kid somewhere in the shop snatched him away? Or even worse, what if the shopkeeper found the squirrel before they did and finished off what the old man in the convenience store had started? Vianna's eyes widened at all these thoughts, her eyes aimlessly searching the carpeted floor as if expecting Fluffy to just randomly walk up to her. It was then that she saw it. The white plastic shopping bags were moving, and from beneath them was a tiny paw. Vianna knelt down beside it and pulled the bags, revealing a squirrel trying to make its way through the plastic barrier that stood between him and the marshmallows. "Oh, Fluffy!" Vianna took the furry creature into her hands and held him tightly; Fluffy merely kicked and tried to snake his way out of her grip. |
Ferris watched as Vianna rushed over to him, his heart breaking at the sight of her face when she realized he didn't have a squirrel for her. He gently shook his head, "No, Vi, I didn't," he admitted, desperately wanting to have Fluffy to give back to her. He watched her, unsure of how to comfort her at the moment as she started searching the aisle hopelessly with her eyes. His brows furrowed slightly as she seemed to spot something and he followed her gaze to the moving shopping bags. As Vianna reached down to reveal an aggravated Fluffy trying to get at marshmallows, Ferris let out a sigh of relief, closing his eyes for a moment before watching the squirrel try to escape from Vianna's hands. He felt a small spark of anger toward the creature, not because he had to go searching for it, but because Fluffy had given Vianna probably the worst scare she wanted to face at the moment and caused her unneeded stress. |
Vianna picked up the rest of her things and returned to her feet, beaming up at Ferris as all worry left her features to be replaced with pure joy and relief instead. "We can go now, Professor," she said before beginning to lead the way out of the aisle. She glanced down at her rebellious squirrel who was still fighting to escape from her hand and sighed. She was desperately beginning to consider the idea of leaving him to her brother to watch over. |
Ferris could only raise his eyebrows at Vianna's cheery reaction, but supposed that it was always hard for the girl to ever be upset with her squirrel. Brows still slightly furrowed inspite of himself, he followed after Vianna and forgot about his books still sitting on the floor. He opened the door for the two of them, leading Vianna out into the chilly night air, and walking side by side with her down the street. Looking around for a restaurant, he rubbed his hands together gently to keep them warm. |
Vianna furrowed her brows slightly as Ferris led her out out of the bookstore. "Aren't you going to pay for your b--" but she stopped abruptly as it dawned on her that the boy had walked out empty-handed. Her eyes widened slightly at this - had it been any other thing, she might not have been too surprised, but for Ferris to forget books? "Don't you want to go get them, Professor?" she asked quietly, just beginning to read the uneasiness in his eyes. |
"Huh?" Ferris said, turning his head to look at the girl as she started a sentence, stopping to look at her in the middle of the street. His brows furrowed as she asked if he wanted to go get 'them', unsure of what she meant until it dawned on him that he had left the books on the floor of the store. "Oh," he said softly, shaking his head just slightly as he tried to clear it, "Yeah, yeah let's go get them," he agreed with a small nod, slowly turning and leading the girl back into the store. |
Vianna gave Ferris a faint smile as the boy took a moment to realize that he had left his books behind. She then followed his lead back to the bookshop and over to the aisle where they had been sitting only a few moments ago. Vianna grinned as Ferris's books came to sight. "They're still here!" she said, though she hadn't really expected anyone to take them as they had only been gone for less than a minute. |
Ferris smiled at the sight of his book still stacked in the neat pile he had left them, walking over to them and picking up the rather thick volumes into his lanky arms. He gave a weak smile to Vianna before passing her and heading over to the register. "Bonjour," he murmured politely to the shopkeeper, making slight conversation with the woman as he paid for his books. Once he finished he gave the shopkeeper a polite smile before turning to Vianna, bag in one hand and the other was extended out towards her. "Come on, Vi. Your Professor needs food." |
Vianna chuckled softly as Ferris expressed his need for food and she nodded her head slightly, taking his hand into her smaller one and heading back out of the shop and into the crowded French streets. "Have you thought about where we might go to eat?" she asked absentmindedly after a moment's silence. "Same place as last time or somewhere new?" |
"I was thinking somewhere new," Ferris responded as they headed outside once more, passing through the substantially smaller crowds as they walked down the street. He intwined their fingers as his eyes scanned the surrounding storefronts, his bitterness towards the squirrel disappearing for the time being as hunger took over. He finally spotted a small restaurant, warm lights coming from it and a smile came onto his face as he lead the girl down the half block it took to get there. Ferris opened the door for them, leading her into a very cozy restaurant, much more casual then the fancy French restaurant they had gone to before. People sat at small mismatched tables, eating food that made Ferris's stomach growl even more. |
Vianna beamed at the sight of this new, smaller, and much cozier restaurant as Ferris led them down the street towards it. "Thank you," she said as the boy held the door open and she made her way inside, examining the scene curiously and allowing another smile to light up her face before returning her gaze to Ferris. As this restaurant was much smaller than most, there were no hosts waiting to greet and sit them; so the girl made her choice for a table near a window and dragged Ferris over to it with childlike enthusiasm. |
Ferris couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle as he was suddenly being pulled over to the table Vianna chose, sitting down across from her with a warm smile. He opened the menu, glad to see they had much better and more casual food than the other restaurant. Plus, there were plenty of pictures. "See anything that looks good Vi?" he asked her, setting his bag of books down by his feet as he looked across the table at the girl. |
Vianna settled her bags on the floor by her feet as well and let Fluffy sit on her lap as she began flipping through the menu absentmindedly, a grin spreading across her face at the sight of so many pictures. This definitely made choosing a meal a lot easier. But like a good Italian, what caught her attention wasn't any of the foreign yet very appealing dishes, but rather something much closer to home - pasta. "This!" she said as Ferris asked her if she saw anything good. She pointed down at the picture of the baked pasta in white sauce. |
Ferris let out a light laugh as Vianna pointed to pasta, something he knew was very familiar to her and gave a nod, smiling warmly at her. "Yes, of course Vi," he said before his attention was distracted to the waiter now at their table. Rather than a middle-aged snooty waiter in a bow tie as before, there was a handsome young man in a t-shirt and jeans smiling at them. "Bonjour," he said to the couple cheerily before rapidly listing of specials. Ferris quickly ordered for Vianna politely before ordering his own meal, and watching as the waiter nodded and left. He gazed around at the restaurant for a moment, his now empty hands folded on the table in front of him. |
Vianna closed her menu and looked out the window distractedly for a moment before returning her gaze to Ferris as the waiter left. "What did you order?" she asked him curiously, though she expected his answer to be something completely foreign to her. She then lowered her gaze to the squirrel on her lap and began petting it absentmindedly, stroking its soft brown fur and giving it a warm smile. Fluffy felt himself grow drowsy under her loving touch and curled up on her lap, slowly beginning to close his dark eyes. |
As Vianna asked what he had ordered, Ferris took a moment to gather his thoughts on how to explain it. "Well, it's basically a dish that has lamb stew and a side of foie gras," he explained vaguely, keeping away from explaining what exactly 'foie gras' was as he wasn't sure how Vianna would react. It wasn't anything too bad, but still, some girls couldn't handle hearing that the person across from them was eating goose liver. Before another second had passed, a basket of bread had magically appeared on the table in between them, along with cheese and butter. Ferris's face lit up at the sight and he quickly took a piece of the French bread into his hands, tearing off a piece and popping it into his mouth, hoping his hunger would be kept at bay with the bread on the table. |
Vianna's brows furrowed as Ferris explained to her what he had ordered. "Grass?" she said, her eyes widening slightly at this. But before she could think on it too much, the basket of bread with cheese and butter magically appeared on the table. She leaned back into her seat and watched Ferris eat for a moment before gazing out the window. She wasn't too hungry and she knew if she started eating bread now, she wouldn't have enough appetite left for her pasta. |
Ferris let out a soft chuckle as the girl repeated the word 'grass' obviously misinterpreting what he said. "No, no," he corrected, swallowing another piece of bread before deciding to just let her know. "Foie gras," he corrected, pronouncing it slowly. "It's...well, it's goose liver." He gave her a sheepish smile, unsure of how she would react, but took another piece of bread into his hands and began to tear it apart just as he had done with the first. |
Vianna returned her gaze to Ferris and gave the boy a puzzled look as he began speaking, clarifying that what he had said was not 'grass'. She furrowed her brows slightly and listened as he explained that what he had been talking about was actually goose liver. Vianna's eyes widened at this and she stared at the boy before her blankly for a moment before reacting, "Oh. Well that--that sounds like... a very interesting meal," she said, forcing on a smile though the thought of a poor goose losing its liver made her want to cringe. |
Ferris could see past her facade, able to tell that the idea made her uncomfortable even if she tried to hide it with her smile. "It's actually pretty good, once you try it," he told her, hoping he hadn't freaked her out too bad. He quickly finished up his piece of bread, just in time for the plates to come out of the kitchen. The waiter brought the steaming plates over, along with it came the appetizing aroma waving off the food. Ferris smiled at the sight, thanking the man before digging into his own plate. It wasn't as ugly as one would think goose liver to be, as it was completely drenched in a cream sauce and various spices and herbs, and on the side was a large serving of lamb stew. OOC: Off for an hour or so! :) |
ooc: Okay! ^_^ Vianna gave Ferris a nod as the boy told her the goose liver actually wasn't that bad once one tried it, but she didn't take the idea of tasting a goose's liver into much consideration. A more genuine smile lit up her face as the food arrived and her eyebrows rose at the sight of Ferris's plate. "Well it certainly looks much better than it sounds," she said with a soft chuckle, referring to the Foie Gras. She turned her attention over to her plate and grinned at the sight of her favourite food; it felt so long since she had anything close to home. |
