As Halloween approaches, all the students of Hogwarts begin to get that same euphoric feeling of the holidays. However, this Halloween will be different: the Headmaster is allowing them to have a ball. There are a couple rules: You can't tell anyone who you are, you can't say how you're going to be dressed, and, yes, you have to be dressed up. The masks come off on the 12th stroke of midnight, when Halloween has come to a close. What will happen? Will there be a scare? Will enemies become friends, or more? What will ensue on the night of Halloween??

Okay, so I thought this would be fun, especially in the spirit of Halloween! We need an even amount of guys and girls- otherwise we're going to have uneven dance partners! I don't care if you want to have canon characters or all made-ups! Let's just have fun with it!

Hot tempered and impatient, he’s one guy you don’t want to cross unless you want to get hexed into the next dimension. He does have a soft side but it’ll take a while for you to find.

Of course Rocio eventually made her own friends and soon Derek had to put up with being around other people. But he’s okay; you just have to give him some time.

Personality: Rocio and Derek are complete opposites. Sometimes it’s hard not to wonder how they ever became friends. Unlike her silent, brooding friend she’s loves being around others and is one of those social butterfly types. She also loves boys and is constantly flirting with them. She can get whiney though when things don’t go her way. But she’s tough. She’s not afraid to get a little dirty or try new things; you just have to make sure she’s in the right mood. If not, then she can be very difficult to talk to and get along with.

Personality: Quiet but smart, Carter is not one of the more vocal Slytherins. However, he does still have the same hatred toward the Gryffindors. Carter does well in all of his classes but doesn't talk very much. However, he does enjoy time with his friends, the few that he has. He doesn't have much of a temper, but it can flare up on occasion. He likes music and plays guitar in his spare time, although he doesn't share that with anyone else.

History: Carter was raised in a good home. There wasn't a lot of extra money, but enough to make living quite comfortable. He was quite excited to come to Hogwarts, and wasn't surprised about his house placement. Since he was quiet, he really didn't connect with a whole lot of people. In general, he doesn't agree with what the Slytherins do, but he was picked on by Gryffindors when he first arrived and has held a grudge ever since.

Personality: Gabriel is a very down-to-earth guy. He likes to have fun and just have a good time, whether it be with friends, or just by himself reading. He enjoys being in the outdoors and is a bit of a hopeless romantic, although no one has been close enough to him to find out that information. He likes going for walks, watching the stars, having a picnic…all that mushy lovey dovey stuff that would be seen by most guys as acts of being too soft. He is also extremely loyal to his friends and would do anything to prevent them from being hurt.

History: Gabe’s parents are the complete polar opposite of him, which adds to his personality. His parents both take part in the dark arts and he absolutely despises that part of him. He would never want to act like that around anyone, which is why he is so caring around everyone. When his parents found out he was in Hufflepuff they were absolutely horrified. That they had produced a son no less, to carry on the family name, and he was put in the most ‘degrading’ house. Therefore, they do everything they can to try to get him to go to the ‘dark side,’ so he stays at Hogwarts whenever possible, until summer rolls around…when he can’t escape.

Okay!! Let's get started!! Happy Halloween everyone!! We'll start when Dumbledore is announcing the ball...

Dumbledore looked around the room, quite excited for his announcement. It was Halloween, and he loved the excitement that filled the atmosphere around the school. And he knew that this announcement would lift their spirits even more as if he had lit fireworks. "Tonight, there will not be a Halloween feast," he told them, trying not to grin at the groans that echoed around the room. "Instead, there will be a MAsquerade Ball! Everyone must be dressed up, everyone must me masked, and you may not reveal who you are to everyone until midnight tonight! That means, no discussing what you will be dressed as before hand either- I've already cast the spell!" Dumbledore told them with a playful grin. "And now, you may begin your meal..."

Adrianna turned back to her plate of food. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays and she was already forming a plan for her outfit. "A Masquerade! How exciting!" she said to herself as she swept her long blond hair over her shoulder.

Carter shook his head at the announcement. "Well mates, this means that we have to get all dolled up and mingle tonight," he said with a slight groan. He looked down at his food and was surprised to feel a twinge of excitement within him. Like most Witches and Wizards, he liked Halloween, but found all of the decorations meaningless.

Gabriel sat in his seat listening to Dumbledore's speech. A Halloween ball huh? A smirk spread over his face and he looked around at the other students reactions. "this should be interesting..." He said to himself and began to think up a good costume.

"I think it would be even more amusing to have a Hufflepuff and Slytherin dancing together." Gabriel chuckled at the idea and shook his head. "Seeing the different costumes will definitely be entertaining by themelves, never mind who dances with who." He looked at her and smiled. "A muggleborn and pureblood dancing...the world will come to an end."

Gabe winked and shrugged his shoulders. "Who knows....maybe I will be. I certainly wouldn't object." He chuckled lightly and gave her a warm smile before looking around the Great Hall again. "Yea, I'm not sure what I will be yet. Do you have an idea yet?"

Chad got up from his seat and grinned as he came up to Adrianna and Gabe. The Ravenclaw ruffled his flyaway hair and joined the conversation with zeal and excitement.

"I can't wait! It's gonna be cool." Chad said. He had a decent idea of what he might be, but he wished he had a better sense of fashion. "Do we get to have dates though?"

"Dates?" said Rocio as she joined the group who were discussing the newly announced ball. "But that kind of kills the fun of it, no? I mean, you go dateless and find someone to dance with. You get to know them and at midnight find out who you were with the whole time." She liked this idea. It would be fun.

"I think the question is, do we have to go?" muttered Derek. He was not the dancing type at all. He'd rather stay in the common room and do something more productive with his time than dance around and flirt.

"I think that this is a really good idea. Like Adrianna and I was just discussing. What would happen if a hdcore Slytherin had to dance with a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff? I think this will promote inter-house unity. If we end up getting blind dates, we won't really have a choice." Gabe looked at the newcomers and smiled. "That's just my opinion though. Either way it should be fun.

"I think that'd be interesting," said Rocio with a grin. "I wouldn't mind getting stuck with a Slytherin." She giggled a bit as she thought about it. She wouldn't care who she ended up with at all. "The lot of you have what you're going to wear ready yet?" she asked them.

"Yeah, you're right Rocio. Although I think I'd perfer to just go with a freind... No offense to dating, but I'd rather go with someone I could just be myself with." Chad said. He smiled at Rocio and Derek and placed an arm around Rocio's shoulders in a freindly way.

"As to what I might ware? Well I'm not really sure.. I'll proably do something goofy." Chad anwsered.

"Aww, that's so sweet," Rocio teased him. "But come on, you have to admit the fact that we'll all be in masks and the mystique of it all will be fun, no?" She looked up at him; she linked her arm in his.

"I don't even like dances in the first place," said Derek dully. "I don't think I'll go."

"Mystique? Ha! That's only for silly girls." Chad said. his voice laced with amusement as he ribbed her. He had been freinds with Rocio for since second year and she was one of the few girls he felt comfortable with.

"Oh come on Der! Chad said. smiling at the young man. "It'll be loads of fun Derek, besides you might just end up with a cutie whose evaded your unassumeing glances!" Chad finished dramatically.

"Hey! I am not a silly girl," she said shaking her head at him. But she smiled all the same. "Or are you afraid you'll end up with a completely hideous girl, so you'd just rather not take the risk and go with a friend instead?"

Derek raised an eyebrow at Chad. "You're joking, right? Besides, these dances are pointless anyway. What point do they serve?"

"To have fun, of course!" said Rocio. She looked at Chad for some back up. "Right, right?"

"Exactly! Fun and mischief! That's what it's really all about." Chad said. He grinned and gently shoved Derek as they all continued walking. The Ravenclaw shivered as Nearly Headless Nick passed by him and inadvertently brushed against him. Nick apologized quickly and went back on his way.

"And as for your other question Ro. No I am not worried about getting someone ugly. I really don't care much for looks, intelligence that I need in a girl. No it's just that I'm not really comfortable asking someone out... You know?" Chad said.

Derek rolled his eyes at them but said nothing. They would neve understand his point of view. He just wasn't the social type like them. These gatherings were never fun.

"Oh, well, you don't have to ask someone out," she said. "Just go and see what happens! Be spontaneous! Spontaneity is always fun." Rocio was all about spontaneity. She usually acted on her impulse more anyway. She hardly ever thought things through which got her in trouble sometimes.

"I don't really like spotaneity. I perfer thinking things through before acting." Chad said. He was more of the thoughtful type and occasionally he overthought things which might be the reason why he was so bad with women. Chad ruffled his hair again and smiled as they entered the first floor Corridor.

"I think I might work on my costume later tonight.. What about you lot?" Chad asked his freinds as he relinquished his hold on Rocio and tugged at a string which led to a shortcut to the seventh floor.

Hermione sped up over to Ginny "this is so exciting especially because we won't know who it is it's like bringing all the houses together i really do love dressing up" dressing up and having lots of fun, dancing and socializing wasn't really Hermione's type of thing but he liked it because it made her feel pretty and like she got just relax and not care what anyone else thought about her besides just because she studies a lot and cares about rules doesn't mean she can't have fun.

Gabe sat and laughed at their bantering. "Oh come on Derek. Plus you probbly won't hve a choice and will have to go. So you may as well get use to the idea." He pat him on the back lightly and shook his head. "Besides no one said that the girl you dnce with is going to be the one you marry. It's just dancing. Harmless."

Rocio shrugged. "Oh, I don't know," she said. "I think I already have something in mind I might wear. A dress. But I'll need to find a mask." She followed Chad wherever he was going. She wasn't really paying attention.

Derek sighed. No one understood why he didn't want to go. It wasn't because of girls or because he had to dress up. "Look," he said, "I just don't like social things. I'm not the social type. And I don't do well in big crowds. It's just not my sort of thing." He shrugged.

Adrianna walked along with the group, laughing. "You guys are so self-conscious, seriously, this will all just be for fun... and I think dating violates the rules," she said with a sigh. "I wonder if girls can work on their costumes together... what do you think Ro?" she asked, turning to her friend. "And I think I might have a mask that will fit you... my parents sent a couple for decoration- but one might work for you!" she offered. She was quite excited for the dance, and the mystery of it all was quite exciting.

Ooc: I won't be able to get on tonight and all of tomorrow... try not to leave me too far behind!!

"Well, I don't know," said Rocio. She looked up thoughtfully. "I suppose it'd be alright if the girls knew who each other were. Just as long as none of us let slip who we were at the masquerade. Then that'd ruin the mystery of it all!" And that was the best part. You didn't know who'd you be with.

"A mask for me?" she asked. "Dri, that'd be great." She grinned at her. "I can't wait!"

"Well, I don't know if I'll recognize all of them. But I already know the sulky, brooding guy in the corner will be Derek," Rocio giggled.

Derek rolled his eyes at them but said nothing. It was best not to comment at this time. He knew the girls would probably gang up on him and he didn't need them getting on his case at the moment.

"It's those type of nights that last the longest though," Derek muttered.

"But that's why you teach the monkeys how to dance," replied Rocio. "It's fun, don't you think? All those insecure and shy guys will finally get the chance to learn to dance because they could never show their faces before."

"Yeah," said Rocio with a nod. "Meeting a nice guy would be nice. He should have a little edge to him. You know, like a quirk. I love learning about people's different quirks. It always makes them more interesting." She grinned at the thought as she pushed her long hair from her face.

Derek said nothing and just nodded. He still wasn't sure if he'd be going. If it wasn't mandatory then he probably would stay back in the common room. No one would notice he was missing anyway.

David grinned to himself before digging into his food. "Ahh, this is going to be interesting," he said to himself as he heard the mutterings of everyone around him.

Vanessa smiled to her brother, down a couple of seats, and looked and listened around, chuckling. "This will be great," she said.

"This ball will certainly prove to be amusing. The costume is going to be the hardest part of it all." Gabriel said nonchalantly poking the food on his plate with a fork while he thought. After a few moments, he came up with an idea an grinned. "well I think I've decided what I will be. I think. When exactly is this masquerade ball going to be starting?"

Gabe looked at Derek, a little bummed out that he wasn't excited about going. "Derek, man come on." He said quietly. "I'm not a big fan of dancing and large social events either, but think about it? Everyone is going to go. And by everyone I literally mean everyone. Do you really want to be in your common room alone for several hours? I really don't think the ball will be that bad. It might actually do you some good. You need to be a little more social. This could be your opportunity. Plus, no one will know who you are. You could at least give it a shot, then if you don't like it leave..." He put an arm around Dere's shoudler and looked at him. "so what do you say? Give it a shot?"

Gabe removed his arm from his shoulder and shrugged. "You're right, I don't I guess." He looked at him briefly before looking back to his plate. "You might as well not even bother going if you don't want to give it a shot. You're right, it's a waste of your time. So you go ahead and have fun in your common room by yourself." what was this kid's problem? Who would rather be alone than having fun?Shaking his head slightly, he looked at the rest of the group then back to his plate. "Right well, umm, yea. So I'm going to go for a bit of a walk. Anyone that wants to is welcome to join me."

Gabe stood up patting Derek on the back. "Don't worry about it. We shouldn't be forcing you to do something you don't want to do." He gave him a friendly smile and looked down at him motioning with his head towards the door. "Come on. Let's work on your social skills. Get you a little mentally prepared for what's going to be, at least to you, the most agonizing hours of your life." A small smirk appeared on his face and then he grinned. He didn't have any problems with him. Derek seemed like a good guy, just a little too shy for Gabe's taste. Maybe he just needed to talk to another guy, make him a little more comfortble. If he was willing to do it, Gabe would be more than happy to help.

"we'll see you guys later." Gabe said to the others as they walked out of the Great Hall. "Ok. So you said that you don't do well in the socializing area correct? Well you and I are going to hold a very lengthy converstion. I'm not exactly sure what about because I haven't thought that far ahead. But it will at least maybe, hopefully, make you comfortable with talking to someone. I don't think I'm terribly difficult to talk to."

Ginny grinned as she heard the headmaster. This will be fun! she thought. She didn't join in a conversation, but listened to the ones around her.

Detailed Description: It is often said that Scorpio’s big brown/black eyes win him girls, while others say it is calm, sexy smile and the slightly powerful aura that he seems to have around him. His hair hangs in subtle waves to his shoulders, and while he doesn’t do much sport, apart from the occasional run around the Hogwarts grounds and Quidditch, he has a fairly toned body.

Background: Scorpio is the oldest child of seven, and the only one not to be a twin. One set of non-identical twins, aged 16, produced the only girl in the Zunther brood, and a boy, with two sets of identical twin brothers, now aged 14 and 12. Although being the oldest was tough when it came to helping babysit, he got to left first to go to Hogwarts, and experience everything first. However, their clothes were never shared (unless between the identical twins, in an attempt to confuse their poor parents, especially their mother), and they all got what they needed, and even more so, what they wanted.


Personality: Although Scorpio grew up getting everything he wanted, he didn’t become as much of a spoilt brat as he would of if he hadn’t had six younger siblings to contend with. Although his Mother was at home everyday, they were looked after with the aid of a nanny; who didn’t have any time for disobedience. So, even to the day, when he has work to do he will do it straight away. Although his makes him somewhat of a swot, it leaves him plenty of time to fly and play Quidditch, as well as get on with the ladies, or his lady if he is in a relationship. Many view him as a player, but if he is with someone, you will struggle to find someone more faithful. This comes from his background of a very stable relationship between his parents and grand-parents.

"hmm what to start with?" Gabe said thoughtfully then shrugged. "hmm well let's see. I mean I know you, ut I don't know you know you. So I suppose a good place to start would be the basics. What do you like to do for fun."

Chad watched as Gabe and Derek walked off together. He turned to Rocio and Adrianna who had been talking about the ball and excused himself from their presence. The Ravenclaw then jogged over to where Gabe and Derek were and walked up to the two boys.

"So where are heading fellas?" Chad asked. Rubbing his hands together and grinning at the other two. "Mind you I've already been to the Library today."

"Hey man." Gabe said grinning as Chad joined. "amd we aren't headed to the library. We were just walking and talking." He looked back at Derek curiously. "reading and swimming...hmm well let's see. I like to do those things too. I actually used to be like you too. Oh, sorry. I make it sound like you aren't normal. It isn't a bad thing really. I can definitely empathize with you though. I know what it's like to not be comfortable around anyone." He smiled slightly and looked down at his shoes as they walked running a hand through his hair.

Gabe grinnd and nodded. "Yea, it's true. I did used to be like that. When I was younger, and especially when I started here at Hogwarts. It lasted until about oh the end of our 5th year maybe." His smile faded slightly and he shrugged. "I don't really know why I'm not like that anymore. After just being around everyone, I just kind of got used to it."

"well maybe it's just because you are so worried about doing those things, that it ends up happening. You just need to find someone that you can really be open with" Gabe shrugged and smirked. "Who knows...maybe you will find that somone at the ball tonight."

"I didn't mean anything by it. I was merely stating that you might find someone to talk to. Having more than one person that you can confide in isn't exactly a bad thing." Gabe stopped walking and looked at him. "Honest, I wasn't implying anything."

"well no wonder no one likes talking to you. Most people probably won't even give you a second thought because you are all down and seemingly depressed all the time." Gabe pushed him in the shoulder slightly and smirked. "You've gotta liven up a little. Smile once in a while. None of that hands in teh pockets staring at th floor all the time stuff."

"Definately." Chad said. He had mostly remained silent through out the conversation. He smiled at Derek and emulated his stance. "Now just pick your chin up a bit more and don't lose eye contact." Chad added as he did the same himself.

Gabesmiled. "Perfect. It's all in how you present yourself. Walking around slouched over and dismal is not going to make people want to talk to you. Of course neither is strutting around acting like you are the best thing on the planet. But you get the idea." He looked at Chad and nodded in approval. "We may turn him into a social butterfly yet."

"Yep. A true Cinderella story." Chad replied. a small smirk slipping across his features. He chuckled and shook his head slightly as the thought of Derek in a dress and glass slippers entered his train of thought.

"I suppose he'll stop speaking with us soon," Chad added with a sigh of mock remorse and a bow of his head. "He'll be too busy chatting up girls."

Derek rolled his eyes at them. He was the worst with girls. He always said the wrong thing. He wasn't sure what he was saying or doing wrong but he knew he always offended them. "If the lot of you keep this up then--"

"Who'll be chatting up girls?" asked Rocio. "Surely not Derek?" It seems she'd come over to see what the boys were up to. She had seen them standing here, in front of the Great Hall. "What in the world are you lot doing here anyway?"

"They're trying to teach me to be more social," he replied.

"Oooh! Really?" she said excitedly. "That's excellent. He could really use it. Otherwise he'll be all alone because none of the girls will want to dance or even talk to him. It'd be such a shame."

Gabe laughed in response to Chad's comment. "Yea, so we better get out all we can while we are still on speaking terms." Turning he saw that Rocio had joined them. "yes, I actually think we are making progress. I mean look at him, he isn't looking completely gloomy." He chuckled and looked at her. "Would mi'lady like to join us in this amazing transformation we are about to embark on?"

"He just needs a bit of practice that's all." Chad said. He smiled at Rocio, but couldn't help thinking that it would be easier without her. Then again he could be wrong. "Yeah help us out Rocio."

"I'd love to help," she said with a grin. "Sounds quite fun! And we only have until tonight to make him into a new man too." She pushed her red hair from her face. "So, how's he doing so far, boys?"

Derek sighed. Now he just felt like a big project they had to work on for class. Oh, well, he'd better not complain or else they'd . . . eat him or something of the sort.

"He's doing well. I mean we were holding a nice good conversation. Then Chad showed up...." Gabe ended in a rather depressed tone then chuckled. "Nah it was fine. I told him he just needs to present himself more positively. And then you came. So we are in the process of presentation."

"Very well... Infact I think that tonight Derek, you will be ready!" Chad said. He smiled brightly at Derek and patted him on the back. He ruffled his blond hair and smirked at Gabe. He pushed the young man playfully. "What's that suppose to mean? And then Chad showed up? Are you implying I'm a bad influence or something?" The Ravenclaw asked.

"What? I said nothing of the sort." Gabe said looking completely innocent chuckling at Derek's accusation. Leaning over he whispered in Rocio's ear loud enough for the others to hear. "Chad's the mental one, we just like to go along with it so he feels better."

"I can hear you, you prat!" Chad exclaimed, nearly shouting as he poked Derek hard in the ribs. The young man chortled and started walking toward the Entrance Hall and the Castle grounds, the blond boy rolled up his sleeve's and undid his tie as the bright sunlight warmed his dark skin. "Light! Ah it burns!!" Chad joked as he tried to hide behind Rocio.

Rocio couldn't help but giggle at the boys. They could be real immature sometimes but they were always quite amusing to have around. "The lot of you are absolutely ridiculous," she laughed. "Especially since I'm nowhere near tall enough to hide you, Chad." She shook her head at him.

Derek had followed them all outside and squinted at the sunlight hit his eyes. "What exactly are we doing out here anyway?" he asked. "Just for fun or something of that sort?"

Adrianna finished her plate and quickly followed behind Rocio. "What\'s this new project?" she asked, looking around at the boys. When she heard what it was she grinned. "PLease can I help?" she asked, looking at them. "Derek doesn\'t know me as well as Rocio, or at least isn\'t as comfortable around me- don\'t think I haven\'t noticed," she said, quickly looking at Derek and shooting him a grin.
