| | | Half-Blood Prince receives PG-rating in US (UPDATED)
Despite comments from the cast and crew that Half-Blood Prince would be the darkest of the films released, the Motion Picture Association of America has announced today that the sixth movie has received a PG rating in the US for "scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality." Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out July 17, 2009. UPDATE: Although IMAX was reporting that the film has a rating of PG-13, Warner Bros has confirmed to us that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has a PG rating. |

I guess it's cool to have it PG, then all the smaller Potter fans can watch it. I might, if I were a parent anyway, watch it myself first just to make sure that it's not so bad that my kid would turn demented like Riddle. But, you know.

wow i thought it would more likely be pg-13 of possibly rated r cuz of the ghosts or something towards the end of the book and how everyone fights.

| So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
"Mild sensuality." Love it.
*thinks* I think the biggest rating a HP film has had here is 12A, but seeing as the cast and other "insiders" have described the film as having more of a feel of a romantic comedy, it does not surprise me that the rating is lower. I think the "dark" part of HBP is concentrated at the end more... I don't know. But it seems a fair rating.
I guess we'll have to see.

PG? what the hell?
I mean, GOF and OOTP were rated PG13 so why not HBP too?

PG or PG-13 - it does not matter. Parents would still take kids under the age of 13 to the movies w/out a second thought.

I think if people had started reading it when the first book came out (can't remember the year) but if they were young bak then as i am now then they will grow with Harry and wouldn't be afraid of the darkness in the upcoming movie.
I get the sense of this one being a dark movie from the trailers I have seen. Pg is werid though..

This isn't a good thing......I mean how can HBP only be PG when OotP was PG-13 and HBP is supposed to be darker. Maybe this means they cut out alot of the dark parts, which would be really really really baaaaad.

that is completely ridiculous. if they did the cave scene, the astronomy tower scene, and especially the sectumsempra scene properly.... this would not get a PG rating here in the states. i think if the sectumsempra scene is at all like the book, that alone would make it a PG-13. this is not good news to me. this makes it seem like they "toned down" all of the climax points in the book. i think this movie is going to make me more upset than ootp did. half blood prince is such a better book than ootp too. dont get me wrong, i love them all.... but even jkr says ootp was the weakest. hbp is my 2nd favorite to DH, and i really hope they dont ruin this movie for me and everyone else thats not a kid.
i can see it now... the entire focus of the plot is going to be on all the relationships that start in this book, instead of on dumbledore & harry, where it should be focused.
alright... im done for now. that just kind of upset me reading its a PG rated movie. if they did it right, it would be at least PG-13. DH should be R. Period.

ok that`s like totally totally totally weird cuz 1st of all the trailers r soo dark and thr may have a lot of sensuality(just like it is in the books)but the scenes with tom riddle, the cave, sectumsempra and the end...oh i definately dont think itll be made 4 kids I read somewhr that it would be 4 kids over 12 years or something...OMG I actually dont know what 2 think anymore I hope its the best HP movie,it HAS to be,its my favourite book 2
now im starting 2 get really really anxious bout it. |

Interesting....I wasn't expecting just a PG rating. We'll see how the movie turns out then, although my expectations are never very high for the films.

PG? Interesting...
I wonder what happened to sex, drugs and rock n' roll? Or should I say, sex, potions and rock n' roll. With all the romance, darkness, sectsumpra, drug references and killing going on I thought HBP would at least be a PG-13. Then again, I live in the UK. Maybe it'll be rated 12A here? Who knows...

The last two Potter films were rated PG-13, so seeing this one being rated PG is sort of a shock considering how much "darker" the sixth book was compared with the fourth and fifth ones. If anything, I would have expected the ratings to increase, not go down...
Only thing I can possibly think of is that with the falling economy, WB hopes they can make more money by lowering the ratings to enable more young people to see the films? Or the movie ratings are just getting more tolerant of "mild sensuality and violence"... which could very well be true.
Like Roro said, my expectations aren't very high for this film either; after the third movie, I really stopped expecting a whole lot out of the HP films, which is the sad truth. I haven't even bought OotP DVD yet because I'm not the least bit anxious in purchasing a film that I wasn't even that pleased with the result

That is really wacky, the trailers look So hectic! I thought at least PG-13V.
But they might change it, I mean look at Batman: the Dark Knight, it was PG-13VL then they changed it to PG-16VL! So I think they shall change it!

First of all WB has nothing to do with the rating process. Seccond of all the people who rate the movies are imune to violence so I am not surprised HBP got a PG rating.
Anyone remember Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian, this movie also got a PG rating and it was quite violent and scary and even showed blood.
I was disgusted by this for rating it PG the wrong audience will see this movie and the audience it was meant for would dismiss it solely on rating
I imagine HBP will have all the darkness of the book it is just a trend in the US
that violent movies get a lower rating because the raters are immune to violence.

WTF...PG? hmmm I guess the fighting and dumbledore dies doesn't deserve a PG13 rating or the fact of what happens when they go to the cave. W/E

I have a feeling that the rating will change once the movie gets closer-I have seen this happen w. few movies here in the States. I am shocked by this rating and am sure it will change. Although the MPAA nowadays seems it is ok for PG movies to even have cussing. IMO, PG is getting to be the equivalent to PG-13. They could also be rating this PG so younger kids can see it. I say it is gonna be too dark though for the -13 year olds. We will wait and see!
