| | | Half-Blood Prince receives PG-rating in US (UPDATED)
Despite comments from the cast and crew that Half-Blood Prince would be the darkest of the films released, the Motion Picture Association of America has announced today that the sixth movie has received a PG rating in the US for "scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality." Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out July 17, 2009. UPDATE: Although IMAX was reporting that the film has a rating of PG-13, Warner Bros has confirmed to us that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has a PG rating. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jeremy Bradford Fifth Year | "It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not." Really? I figured this movie would be PG13 at least, pushing close to R. How can they make the battle scene in the castle PG? And if they tried to cut that scene out that would be horrible. I just feel like there is way to much action and mature themes in this movie for it to be rated PG. I mean if anything there is more action and such in this one than Order of the Phoenix which was rated PG13.

LOLZ what??
The last two movies have been PG-13, I thought thats what it was going to be from here on out!
Whats with this whole thing about this movie supposedly being "Sex, drugs and rock and roll"?
Apparently not...
That actually makes me kinda mad, lol.

I would think that it would have gotten a similar rating to OOTP, with the battle and stuff. How much did they change in the movie? And in all of the ABC promos, oh my, they kept saying, it getting darker, well apparently not. Maybe they overdid this humor element. I am not going to see a cartoon, I am going to a Harry Potter movie after all..

That doesn't make sense....o.O
Seeing as Order of the Phoenix, a much lesser mature book than Half-Blood Prince, was PG-13, how does that play out? I think HBP is much darker than OotP. This stinks! |

Hmmm, not PG-13? I was really hoping that this movie would be 'extra' dark, I mean, the book was fairly violent in some scenes/sections. I just hope they haven't switched things around so much that it is more like a romance movie with very few darker scenes included just for kicks...I hate romance movies!

I think that the only reason it didnt get a much higher rating is because the filmmakers made it in a way so everyone can see it. And now that they are realising the movie in july, they will all smiling as they walk home from the bank.
Sorry if it sounds mean, but i was hoping that they would be able to make it true to the books. And if the fans could read it without any trouble, and you can imagine the imagination we all have, then the movie wouldnt be as dark as the book i think.
I just really really really hope we dont get dissapointed.
If the sectumsempra scene isnt like it should be, im going to be royally *grr* well it makes no sense for them to sacrifice the movie to make more money. Bcuz the fans were already upset with them moving the movie back, now granted that opened the door for Twilight to sneak in there but Twilight didn't even touch the number that HP puts up
I was hoping they would keep true to the books. I mean this is an important movie and for them to screw it up like they did POA would just make me grr! Quote:

only PG? That's a suprise! I'm kinda mad about this. I feel like I've been lied to. What happened to darkest one yet?
I hope David Yates gets fired.

I'm somehow embarrassed by this rating. I don't know how to explain my feelings. I just feel embarrassed by this PG rating. It's pathetic, pretty much.

PG? Seriously? The fourth and fifth films are rated M and they aren't even 'dark'.

PG? Grrrrr! NOOOOO! (way past the face) I want PG13 so the cave'll be good and the "Malfoy Half-Murders" will be terrifying!!! Grrrr! The WHOLE cast said this one would be darker!!!! The movie-ers are KILLING the book! What's DH gonna be? A rated G cartoon? "And Harry and Ron go happily skipping away in search of Voldy's shattered soul pieces"

Wait, What?
But, why's it not more then a PG, surely the Inferi should get it's own special rating? From what i've heard they're the scarest things the HP movies have experienced...there should be a higher rating...like, at least PG 13...

No way! I guess there are so many inappropriate, offensive, and vulgar movies rated PG-13 released these days that HP seems rather mild. Interesting. I'd be shocked if HBP is anything but incredibly dark concerning the Voldemort/Horcrux/Finale parts.

With the Sectumsempra scene, the cursed necklace scene, the inferi scene, Dumbledore's death scene, the burrow attack scene, and all of that stuff you would think it would be PG-13...but I think there's a chance WB got the MPAA to give it a lower rating so that parents would take their younger kids to see it...ratings don't mean anything. I've seen some PG-13 movies that DEFINITELY should have been R-rated (The Ring for example). And there are alot of PG movies that definitely belong in the PG-13 category...so you can't just go by the ratings...I just want to see it...they could've given it a G and I would still be just as excited.

I think I'm disappointed about this movie before I've even seen it. The more I read it, the more nervous I get for how much it seems that they're destroying it.

The thing we have to remember is that the usa doesnt see gory as like bad anymore lol. Its sad that it only got a PG rating, this means that alot ALOT was cut out or will be on the disk as a extra thing. Deleted scenes and such.
It stinks that it didnt get a PG-13 rating but i think they are saving it for DH i think that should be rated R because of all the wicked effects that are going to be in it.....

I like the part about "mild sensuality"; would that be about Lavender and Ron and/or Harry and Ginny? Oh well.
