Department Head ~ Syd Wordsmith

The walls are high with bookshelves filled with books on both Magical and Muggle law. There's a plant on one of the shelves, a few pictures of Syd and a few big wig clients, and plenty of awards for excellence in prosecuting. The big desk stands at the back of the room, surrounded by shelves and there is a faint scent of honey in the air.

"I will. You'll be presenting information about this purse and coin problem... So start thinking about what you're going to be saying," he told her, nodding as he shuffled things into a folder.

"Don't worry too much. Just gotta present the facts."

It seemed like years since she had last approached the door of Syd Wordsmith's office, but Vivienne had been placed on special assignment for the Minister's wedding - she was the translator for the French Minister of Magic and had the added duty of escorting the man and his wife around London. The task was uneventful but she did enjoy the fact that her former employer was thrilled with her progress in learning the English language. Then she was assigned to a special ops that involved French smugglers and that took several months. But the assignment was exciting and she was already dreading having to work indoors, and she had no idea what the current assignment was.

The door to the office was closed and she knocked firmly. Vivienne stood there and waited quietly for permission to enter.

It was the first day of work for Chase and he wasnt to sure where he was supossed to go so he figured his best bet would be to go see the department head. He walked up to the door, knocked and waited for a reply.

Vivienne looked at the other person who joined her in waiting and sighed as she took a seat. She wasn't seated for long when a bewitched paper airplane landed on her lap. Curious, she opened the paper that was clearly addressed to her and read it. At last!

She stood up and looked at the closed door one last time, and shook her head. It says to report immediately, so I guess Mr. Wordsmith will have to read his memo. Not wasting another moment, the clicking sound of her Jimmy Choo's echoed in the empty office as she hurried to the Department of Mysteries.

Scarlett Lillian stood at the door, erect and at attention, raking through her board straight hair with a few fingers and brushed up on her appearance as best she could. She flipped down the gray hoodie from her face and tugged down the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt so it didn’t ride up. Giving up, she just zipped up the jacket all together and smacked some dirt from her camo pants. There, good enough. The darker circles under her eyes couldn’t be helped, but she decided she looked well enough. She’d stayed away from looking improper; she’d even left her bottle cap belt at home and replaced it with a stiff leather one that fit too loosely over her narrow hips. ~~At least I don’t look like a robber,~~ she thought with a nod of certainty. Earlier that morning she’d seen some bloke sporting pinstripe robes and a brief case. Only thieving masterminds dressed like squares to seem unassuming when it was common knowledge that lawyer-dressing men didn’t go home to flip on the game and scratch at their twelve o’ clock shadow. Rather, they busted into convenient stores and carted out twinkies and toothpaste. With a deep breath, she knocked attentively at the door and rocked on the heels of her grimy sneakers in anticipation.

"Come in," Syd called in his signature drawl.

He stacked some sheets of paper into a folder and shut it. Deciding who was going to guard who was so much easier thanks to Forrester's test. Now someone wanted to talk about... He didn't know. He thought this was a scheduled appointment, but in his frenzy of preparations he didn't really know when he had appointments.

Hearing someone call him in Chase entered the office had a brief look around and adressing the man sat behind a desk said Good day sir my name is Chase Matthews and today is my first day in the improper use magic department, Its just im not sure where i should be.

"Ah, Matthews," Syd said. "Improper Use you say? Would you like me to guide you there and see to it that you get set or shall I just point you in a direction?"

His desk was still a mess and Chase had caught him trying to straighten it up before the other ministers saw it. They were arriving any minute after all.

Kira had wandered around the floor for a while, trying to figure out what to do (she had just been hired), so she decided that Syd's office would be the best place to start. She walked up to the door and heard voices inside, so she waited patiently on the outside. She thought it would probably be rude to knock while they were still discussing.

After going through several piles of in-notes, Leaf found several assignments, so he went to Syd's office to let him know he was off to follow up on a few. (And make sure Syd had nothing more for him.)

He took note of another officer as he made his way to the office.

"Hello, name's Leaf. Arron Leaf," he said as he held out his hand to Kira, using his other hand to knock on Syd's door.

Leaf followed her back to Syd's. "Here," Aaron said waving his wand from behind her and tacking a note to the door. "With him in a meeting, who knows how long he'll be. I was here almost 10 full minutes before.

Syd got up and opened his door. There was so much commotion outside and no one had burst in yet. The recent knocking, however, sounded incredibly urgent so he figured he'd open the door in case he was needed.

"He- well it looks like I've got a line... and a note," he said taking the note left and reading it. "Something you need Rebecca?"

Rebecca was getting dragged off by Aaron "We're going out Sy-" She got dragged around the corner before she could finish her sentence

"Syd!" Lorraine exclaimed, quickly knocking and opening the door of the Magical Law Enforcement Department Head. She had just come from a fabulous little meeting with the shopkeeper at Florean's, where together they thought of the most awesome idea to celebrate Christmas at Diagon Alley with the shopkeepers and department heads. Surely Syd would just love to join in the fun.

Spotting the wizard at his desk, Lorraine held out the charmed box for him to see. "I've got the greatest news! And I know you're just going to die of love at this. I've just discussed with the woman at Florean's Ice Cream, Bella, and we've planned out a wonderful idea to celebrate Christmas at Diagon Alley. We've decided to do a Secret Santa, and we'd like to ask you to join in on all the fun."

Setting the charmed box down on Syd's desk, she patted it lovingly with her hand. "In this box, we've placed the names of every Ministry Department Head and each and every Diagon Alley Shopkeeper and Assistant," Lorraine explained. "The box was charmed so that when you tap your wand on the box and say 'Accio!', a certain name designated just for you will shoot from the box and land in your hands. Remember not to tell anyone whose name you drew - not even me! All you have to do at that point is buy a gift for that person and somehow get it delivered to them without knowing who sent it - they'll need to guess! Won't that be fun?!" Lorraine's hazel eyes twinkled with delight.

"Now, if you decide to participate, we'll have a little party at Florean Fortescue's on December 19 (OOC: December 19-21 anytime is the roleplay). You can come bringing your favorite party foods and drinks, and we'll see if anyone has been able to figure out their Secret Santa!" Lorraine continued. "So, now then. Would you like to participate? If you would, tap your wand once upon this little box, say the correct incantation, and your name will just pop right on out of there! Go on...give it a try!"

Syd turned to Rebecca again after she was dragged off, caught the note from Nicoli, and was the accosted by Lorraine for some... Christmas thing. Secret Santa? They still did that these days?

"Uh, right. Sure thing there, Lorraine," he said getting out his wand.

He tapped the box and said rather unenthusiastically, "Accio."

A name popped out and he took a quick glance at it. Nodding, he stuffed the slip of paper into his pocket and motioned for everyone else to come into the office.

"Maddux? I don't think so," he said, replying to the note before sending it back out.

Lorraine blinked at hearing his little enthusiasm. Syd was younger than her, but surely the stress of working in Law Enforcement ~~and not talking with Bella Greingoth~~ must have affected his personality.

Watching him tap the box enthusiastically as a name came out, she felt huge stomach pains of guilt. "Thanks Syd and don't forget about Florean's! I'll see you there!" She nodded, picking up the box as she did so, since she was quite eager to leave this office.

Nodding again, she turned and left the Dept Head of Law Enforcement's office before her enthusiasm from Bella could wear off. Besides, she still had two more levels to get through...

Theo had had no idea as to what to get his fellow Head, but after talking to Alina he had gotten this as a little joke. He only hoped Syd would see it the same way. The squishy little package contained one of those white hair things and that hammer thing the judges always used on the television.

He quickly placed it on the man's desk and ran out.
