Department Head ~ Syd Wordsmith

The walls are high with bookshelves filled with books on both Magical and Muggle law. There's a plant on one of the shelves, a few pictures of Syd and a few big wig clients, and plenty of awards for excellence in prosecuting. The big desk stands at the back of the room, surrounded by shelves and there is a faint scent of honey in the air.

A succession of quick raps on the door to the office reverberates around the room and the door knob turns almost ominously. "Hello, Syd," Nicoli Vanhatck's young, brunette mop of hair emerges from behind the door. His azure eyes glittered as he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. "You wanted to see me?" Midnight blue robes swished around him as he stood to the center of the room, somewhat unwilling to be so bold as to take a seat. Nicoli was excited. It had been overwhelming to hear that his application had been excepted and now he stood in the ministry itself, a division head. Could have used a larger desk, the oddly timed thought leaped into his head, making his eyes gleam ever so slightly.

Forrester knocked on the door and turned the knob. "Hello Sid, you needed me?" Forrester asked as he steped inside the office. "Oh hey Nicoli... How have you been?" he asked as he approched his collegue.

Syd looked up, ready to stand up and open the door, but it appeared that two employees had already found their way into his office. He stood up anyway and nodded to both men.

"Vanhatck and Hufflepuff. Nice to see you both," he said in his smooth, Southern drawl.

His dark blond hair shimmered in the light of the room, his red, silk shirt following suit. It was no wonder this guy had been a Gryffindor.

"I've got your case files," he said, reaching into a drawer of his desk to pull out a couple of folders. "Let's see here."

He flipped through them a second before holding one in each hand out to the men. The manila folders each had their names on them and contained a few sheets of paper.

"Na' I trust you both can take these tasks on with these new employees," he said, eyebrows raised and casting an intense gaze to both men.

Erin O'Connor knocked on Syd's door softly then, upon hearing Ray and Nicoli's voices, smoothed her beige Chanel suit and entered the well-appointed room. "Good Morning Gentlemen." She smiled softly. "You wished to see me Syd?" She asked.

Syd looked over the two men's shoulders at Erin who had just come in. She was rather smartly dressed. It was the first day after all and he had to admit that, as the only female member of their managerial team, she probably wanted to promote such. Though what did he know?

"Ms. O'Connor," he said, the "or" almost an "ar" sound. "I was just handing Hufflepuff and Vanhatck their assignments. I'll get yours in a sec'nd."

"Very good I will start my assignements right away..." Forrester replied as he turned around ready to leave. His new golden and black wizard robes were a bit more easy to walk in then the previous ones.
"Oh! Syd do you need a full report on the end of every mission?" he asked before exiting the department head office.

Before Nicoli had a chance to reply to Forrester he noticed Syd rise and shot him a sincere smile instead. Vanhatck? In a formal mood today was he? "Like wise," he replied simply his eyes glittering as he profiled the man. Proud, efficient. Nicoli stepped forwards to take the folder out of Syd's hands, and scanning the few pages he replied confidently, "Of course, sir," Nicoli smiled. Sir. His formalities only went so far.

At that he followed his superior's gaze towards the door and took in Erin O'Conner. Professional, somewhat...nervous? Or just soft spoken. He approved of the suit, though of course slightly too muggle for his taste. He smiled at her as well, his eyes still glimmering, and turned back to Syd after hearing Forrester's question. He'd like to know the answer to that one himself.

Erin Smiled. "Actually it's Miss." She told her boss. She took in her colleagues. Both were dark headed, and wore Robes, one of Midnight blue, the other of black and yellow, she responded to the smile of the wizard in blue with a smile of her own. "Yes sir." She responded to Syd, taking a seat and crossing her legs demurely, to patiently wait.

Syd turned his gaze from Erin to the two men. He smiled a bit and slipped his hands into his dark brown pants pockets.

"Uh, yes. Yes, a report would be immensely helpful, thank you," he said, nodding to each of them before moving around behind his desk.

The bottom drawer of his desk was still open so he reached in a pulled out a few files. Each of them had Erin's name on it and each one was designated for each of the "desk" job divisions. He handed them to the seated woman and smiled.

"Alright, Miss O'Connor," his drawl once again somewhat emphasizing her last two letters.

Not having found anyone in the main office Trism Braun, sporting his newest set of trademark teal robes and peddling a tray of freshly baked cupcakes bobbed through the door to the Department Head's office. "Cupppppppppp cakkkkessss! Get Yer Cupcakes! Oh - sorry, didn't realize you were in the middle of a meeting." He grinned - a bit sheepishly, well, sheepishly for Trism.

Syd looked up from Erin this time. It seemed like everyone was going to end up in his office at some point and quite possibly all at the same time. The man seemed be peddling cupcakes though. Maybe he was from the cafeteria? His robes, though, weren't those of a chef's though.

"Well, uh, come on in," he said to the man. "I wasn't expecting any kin' of baked goods, but... Say, do I know you from somewhere?"

He pointed to the ID badge dangling from his breast pocket. "Probably seen me around. I spent a lot of time in the oblivator lunch room." He smiled and slipped the tray of teal frosted cupcakes in front of the man's nose. "Enjoy a cupcake. And you to, of course!" he said motioning to the girl standing nearby

It appeared his name was Trism. Interesting name. Syd liked it though. And his last name... Braun? He recalled reading an article about a Braun crup farm winning another award for breeding. Perhaps this young man was one of those Brauns. Syd picked up a cupcake and took a bite. It... wasn't exactly... moist. Heck, it may not have even been cake.

"Leapin' lizards, man! What the heck is in these things?" he said, wiping his tongue with a napkin.

Hopefully Erin's was better.

"Oh the usual you know," He set the plate down and started counting off ingredients on his well manicured fingers. "Flour, sugar, salt, vanilla, brown sugar..." He trailed off not remembering any of the other ingredients. "I made the frosting myself too." At that comment he rocked backwards on his feet clasping his hands behind him grinning broadly.

"Right, well, I'd check my measurements if I were you. These things are drier than the desert and about as flavorful as an old tube sock... eh... no offense," he said, turning the cupcake around in his hand.

He set it down on his desk and looked to Trism. If he ever pulled the man's name in a Christmas lottery, he'd be sure to get the man a cookbook. The man had obviously used the right ingredients, but the proportions were a little off.

"Dry? Tasteless?" Trism's smile evaporated from his face as he snatched one up and promptly bit into it. "Mmm....I bet I needed that 3rd egg." He ran a finger through the frosting and then popped it into his mouth. "Mmmm...well, the frosting came out! And it's teal! Isn't that fabulous?"

"Yes, the frosting... did..." he said as the man mentioned the color and it being fabulous.

Syd's eyebrows furrowed as he re-read the man's badge. Department of Mysteries. He had heard the Unspeakables were quirky. Though fabulous frosting?

"Right, well. Next time I've got something that needs icing, I'll call ya, Braun. Say, you related to the Braun's who run that crup farm? They're pretty famous aren't they?"

"That would be my family yes. Although mum and Da' do all the cruppy raising. And my little brother's helping. Why do you ask? I don't expect there's another batch until spring so I can't hook you up with a deal. Sorry." He continued to eat the frosting off the cupcake with his finger.

"Oh, no, no, I don't need a crup. I was just wondering what with your name bein' Braun and all," he said, motioning to the badge.

Syd clapped his hands together and smiled. A famous acquaintance. Well, a family member of the famous anyway. Sadly he wouldn't be spilling any secrets since he was an Unspeakable. Syd despised not being able to know everything that was going on, but he'd have to deal somehow.

"Yep, we Braun's stick together." It was perhaps a bit ironic that a Braun like Trism didn't own a crup himself. He thought about it for a moment then shrugged it off like he always did. Too busy, which was his usual response. He finished of the frosting on the cupcake. "Well, I guess I should head back to work." He chuckled a bit. Making references to the Brain Room where he worked was always a fun past time of his.

"Work, yes," he nodded to the man.

Off to the mysterious level 9 where Syd couldn't go. The courthouses were right next door and he was often in those every day of the week, hoping one day he could go into the department not too fall off. Of course it wasn't possible.

"I suppose I've got some stuff to attend to myself," he said to Trism. "Nice meetin' you though."

"You too mate!" He grabbed Syd's hand (which probably wasn't in the air for a handshake) and shook it. "Have a great day." He smiled and then picked back up his tray of cupcakes.

As he walked out the door he wondered. What lunchroom would have the most people in it? I wanna hand out cupcakes...

And with a loud bellowing "CUPPPPPP CAAAKKKESSSSS!" Trism walked out of Syd's office.

Nicoli tried hard to stifle a chuckle, his eyes shinning out of his face like a light beam. "Strange man," he said to no one in particular. This Trism was...an over enthusiastic type, a little bit...what is the word? Bold, maybe? "I'll just be getting these to the others," he said smiling, holding up the folders and he slipped quietly out of the door. A swish of his robes and quiet snap of the door and he was gone, chuckling slightly.

Erin had been just about to speak when the young man came in hollering about cupcakes. To be nice, she took one but she took one look at it and Just held it till she could throw it away. "Thank you Sir." She said to Syd, I will get my employees on these right away." she smiled then exited the office.
