Post 'Fantastic Beasts' has linear, adjacent story to Harry Potter, like Star Wars: WB CEO

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara commented on the current state of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series at Tuesday's launch of the Hogwarts Express expansion at Warner Bros Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter.

Tsujihara, who played a key role in getting J.K. Rowling to write the script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them years ago, compared the new saga to the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters this December.

Quote:
Kevin Tsujihara: "[Beasts] is really a wonderful gift ‎from [J.K. Rowling] to the fans, and we are a part of it. It is like Star Wars. It is not exactly a linear story but an adjacent story," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "And Jo wrote [the film version of Beasts] herself, which is just absolutely amazing, and she is so talented. You see the passion that everyone has for the world that she has created, and it's just fantastic to extend it."

Tsujihara also paid tribute to Rowling: "Jo couldn't be here tonight, but she's here in spirit." He added: "This place embodies the world of Harry Potter and brings it to life."

When asked what else may be next for Leavesden, said Tsujihara: "Right now, we are focused on Fantastic Beasts. And Jo has a storyline in her head, and right now, we are letting her go [with it]."
SnitchSeeker briefly chatted with Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts producer David Heyman and director David Yates at Tuesday's launch, though unfortunately both were tight-lipped about the topic of the new series, citing high secrecy around the movies. They did mention that, as already revealed, they will begin filming late this year. No word yet on who will play the lead, Newt Scamander.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's first movie hits theaters in November 2016.

i could imagine how challenging it is to get the screenplay for the first movie of a trilogy right, spesh for a first time screenwriter like Jo. writing a novel and writing a screenplay are two different beasts. i hope she's getting some pretty good assistance on this (and that she's receptive to such assistance *remembers George Lucas*)
