Post Harry Potter MAX 10-year TV series aiming to premiere in 2026, says Warner Bros. CEO

During Warner Bros. Discovery's Q4 2023 call on Friday, CEO David Zaslav commented on the upcoming Harry Potter MAX/HBO decade-long series, which he hopes to premiere in 2026.

Zaslav, as can be read below, mentioned meeting with author J.K. Rowling in London recently with HBO and Max content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys and Channing Dungey, chairperson of Warner Bros. Television, which apparently had positive results.

Quote:
Zaslav: We've not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter. The last film was made more than a dozen years ago. I was in London a few weeks ago with [HBO's] Casey and [WB's] Channing, and we spent some real time with JK and her team.

Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn't be more excited about what's ahead. We can't wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max. We're aiming for a debut in 2026.
Theories are currently going around that Succession writer Francesca Gardiner is among the finalists to be the showrunner of the saga, with names like Martha Hillier (The Last Kingdom), Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters), Tom Moran (The Devil’s Hour) and Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) in early contention. Note that nothing is confirmed yet.
