Default Charms Lesson 1: Color my world

It was charms afternoon for the students and the door was open and ready to have the students enter. Professor Primeaux is always one for punctuation and control so there should be no surprise that the room is clean, lit well, and set up in an organized fashion. What might be different is that he has student easels placed where the desks should be.

On the easels there is a white canvas and finger paints at each station. Looking more closely you will find no paint brushes. Just every color paint you can think of. Had the professor been pranked by peeves and that's why there is paint and art supplies in his charms room or was Professor Primeaux finally losing his marbles?

On the board you will notice a sign from Professor Primeaux but no Professor was found in the room.

Quote:
I will be there shortly, please while I'm gone use the finger paints to make your best project. If you can't draw it is fine, look at mine. This isn't a joke it is how I actually draw and paint things. Make sure whatever you make it is school appropriate. This is not for a grade, I will not collect it, but you are expected to do your best and try.

Lesson progression:
Paint with a brush
Animatae
Figura
Colovaria
Go on and color the castle

Thank You for being patient!

Azura was smiling at her moving sun, it was still pretty cool. Was this how they made pictures move? Or maybe those were just special cameras? She kept her curiousness to herself though. They were drawing, not taking pictures! She would ask the Professor later when the entire class couldn't hear her.

She looked up as the Professor started to speak and she watched him intently as he made a circle with his wand. And then a red circle appeared!! That was susper cool!

Hmm..

Azura looked down at her drawing and she studied it for a moment, she hadn't drawn the house yet, so she could use the spell for that!

She picked up her wand and concentrated on the color blue! She then traced a rectangle over her parchment and said "Figura Rectangle. She said and grinned as a blue rectangle appeared on her canvas. Yesss!

Song Jaemin was suffering.

He did not deserve this. He had done nothing wrooooong. And yet here they were... making him do art stuff. Again. He didn't want to make art. He didn't want to make art with his hands, or with a brush, or a pencil, or with his wand. He just wanted to learn magic in peace and away from art and sports. He had gone through those things in Muggle school, and he was tired of them. He had done his waiting! TWELVE YEARS OF IT!

It was bad enough the Muggle Studies professor had given him failing marks for that particular class, just because he couldn't doodle. The last thing he wanted was to end up with failing marks in Charms for the same stupid reason. The small boy cast a rather grumpy look after the professor as he went by, then picked up his wand again. This spell seemed easy enough, even if he didn't like it because it was being given to him in the context of art.

"Figura circle," he said rather flatly, tracing a small circle over top of the canvas. A little grey circle appeared, and he directed his wand to another spot. "Figura circle."

Small grey circle after small grey circle appeared, with Jaemin moving his wand after each to create the next. Soon the twitchy handprint was surrounded.

"Is there a way to decide whether they turn up hollow or filled in?" he asked aloud, tracing another dull grey circle on the palm of the hand. If it had had hopes of moving before, it probably wouldn't anymore.

Learning this special spell technique helped Niomi no longer be a horrible artist. Seeing how the circle, Professor Primeaux made, was so perfect, this must be great spell. Now, Niomi was thinking of what to create herself. She used the first idea that came to her mind, a square.

Niomi put a new piece of parchment on the easel in front of her. Taking out her wand, thinking of the color pink, she traced a square. "Figura square." All of a sudden her square came to life upon the parchment, looking perfect.

Awww, Professor Primeaux was complimenting her artwork. That made Esme smile. "Thank you, Sir," she said politely before tracing the dog with her wand as they had been shown. "Animatae." It began moving before her very eyes, chasing its tail like Lucy loved to do. She giggled. How ADORABLE. Did she want to animate the clouds as well? Probably not because they would move too quickly. The dog was more than enough and she could watch it forever if she had been allowed to.

Satisfied, Esme turned to the next piece of parchment on her easel so that she could begin to make shapes. This spell sounded just as easy as the last one had been. Honestly she wasn't sure why some people were acting like this was torture; not exactly as if they were asked to do something terrible. It was just a bit of art. Whatever. At least SHE was having a lot of fun.

Thinking about the colour pink, she traced a medium sized square with her wand. "Figura square." Voila. Pink square! She was going to make this into a house, so she traced a triangle shape right over the square while thinking about the colour purple. "Figura triangle."

Soon there was a small purple circle inside the center of the triangle as well as two small blue squares and a red rectangle in the medium sized square. These were obviously the windows and door. Finally, she added a tiiiiiiny yellow circle to the rectangle because doors needed knobs.

Five points, yes! Rooney would have high-fived Professor Primeaux if his hands weren't covered in the colours that were on his easel right now. The black and the red and the white and yellow were really taking up their space on his hands, and...on his wand, actually. That was a little bit of a bummer. "Thanks Sir!" And even better still..he now had something else to look into after class, because it would be sO exciting to have that bunch of facts in store for conversation. Always the best of facts stored up in there. Like how a hummingbird weighed less than a penny. "Would you be able to use it on a temporary tattoo, though, Sir? The stick on ones?"

He took his time to listen closely to what was being said, raising his eyebrow slightly as he wasn't following the topic as well as other people seemed to be. Rooney understood that they could use charms to make things easier, but what did they need paint spells for? He had paint powder and then water to that. And he much preferred the technique of using a brush as opposed to...his wand. But, whatever. Hm.. Moving on..to accomodate where the class was headed, Rooney wiped one of his hands off onto his robes and held his wand again.

So he just had to think of a colour and say the incantation with his shape. Right? But WHAT colour did he want? Blue for Ravenclaw? Red for the heart feelings? Red for Miss Charlotte over there painting her own face and being incredible at it at the same time? Red for Miss Olivia? Red for his sister, Brinlee? No, no. The perfect mixture of the two. A purple. In his head he was hoping it would come out a little more blue than red, as his loyalties did lie with the badge his wore on his chest daily. "Figura triangle!" With the thought of purple in his head and his wand drawing out the three sided shape, it wasn't all too surprising when a purple triangle appeared on his parchment.

Next shape! Next colour!

Fiyero beamed as Professor Primeaux praised him. He hadn't thought about the apples being seasonally appropriate when he painted them; he just thought they made the tree look more colorful. Primeaux said something, and Fiyero looked up just in time to see a red circle appear on the parchment. Wait, they could draw using just their wands? This lesson just kept getting better and better!

He stared at the parchment in front if him fir a minute, trying to decide which shape to try first. He figured it was probably best to start with something simple, so he waved his wand in a circular motion just like Professor Primeaux just did. "Figura circle," he said, and sure enough, a blue circle appeared. So far so good... now he was going to try a different shape. He traced a square with his wand. ;Figura square."

Fiyero watched as a red square appeared next to the circle, and his confidence grew. He wondered what would happen if he tried a more complex shape. Imagining a shiny gold star in the back of his mind, he made a star shape with his wand. "Figura star!" Professor Primeaux hadn't said what kind if shape to draw, and a star was considered a shape, right?

The star that appeared on the parchment was a little lopsided, but that didn't matter much to Fiyero. He was just happy he got one to appear at all. He was beginning to like this spell!

Oh, it was time to move on. Janelle was really getting into her painting, but there was more to do and more to learn. As the professor explained the next task, Janelle jotted down a few notes. They were going to make shapes now. It sounded like this spell was kind of like auto correct for the artistically challenged.

Janelle changed to a new canvas and took out her wand. She thought of the color she wanted to use, which was blue. Then she drew a medium sized heart and said, "Figura heart". Man, this was so cool. A perfect blue heart appeared on her canvas. Anxious to try another one, Janelle thought of the color green. Then she took her wand and made a circle. "Figura circle", she said. A green circle appeared next to Janelle's blue heart. She could do this all day. Janelle wondered what other spells could be used to create a masterpiece. Surely this was only the beginning.

He had been POKED. Cornelius took a sharp look in the direction and smiled automatically. Katerina. She beat him to it. Had it been the other way around he would have poked her. It was funny and endearing when she did that little jump whenever he did.

....And where was she going? With Dante. Ah, well that was understandable. Cornelius would have gone to him to. You know, cool dude...even if he did want Katerina to see HIS painting. He'll have to show her after class.

The problem right now was finger painting. Not the activity itself, but that it was occupying Cornelius' attention. It was much more entertaining than listening to an adult. He did finally look up when a charm was mentioned.

Animatae. Ah, well wasn't that interesting. That meant that his portrait of Mustard the bearded dragon could come alive and dance the Cha-Cha or something.

The Slytherin boy traced the figure of the yellow lizard on his easel as he cast, "Animatae!" He was excited and pumped, and that usually triggered his magic most than any other emotion. As it was, he was far too excited so his painting on twitched a leg, but that was enough to give the curly haired boy the confidence to keep trying.

He paused and glanced up at the professor, green eyes squinting in thought. No, Cornelius did not agree with this charm. Art was something that came from the heart, not magic. Not in painting, at least. Was if something was shaped as a patato? Would you cast 'Figura potato'? Would the charm capture raw emotion like hands did when they were at work? No. Cornelius did not think so. But since this was for fun, he didn't get into the technicalities of it.

Changing to the new parchment, Cornelius waved his wand as he mentally repeated the charm in his head. Once it was set, he cast. "Figura potato!" And with his wand he traced a potato.

Would it work????

It didn't seem fair that they were focusing on artistic endeavors, or that the professor kept peering over her shoulder like that. Now he knew... she was a seventh year who dreamed of a future in design who couldn't even manage a fuzzy sock animation. It was mortifying.

And now they had a new spell to learn. Dot sighed (internally, at least) and pointed her wand at the paper again, right next to the sock trying to leave the page. She'd do something challenging, at least, and maybe get the professor to acknowledge her excellent charming skills.

Like a not quite a color shape. A not quite a color and not quite a shape. "Figura rhombus," she traced her wand over the paper and thought of ecru. The boxy not-square appeared, just a shade darker than the paper it was on. Nice. Now... "Figura dodecahedron." A twelve-sided object appeared, this time in a ripe yucky green. Gross color, cool spell.

Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE!

Isabella frowned a little. She'd gotten the tail of her painted lizard to wiggle, but she still wasn't really pleased with the quality of her painting. It was a little drippy, or droopy. It looked more like a dinosaur than a lizard. She looked away from her painting as the professor called their attention to the board. Her eyes widened as the professor showed them how to actually create with a charm. How fun! Isabella was all for trying new things.

Wrinkling her nose in concentration, Isabella pondered what she should 'draw.' She wanted a flower, so... pink? Flowers were pink. "Figura oval," she said quietly, thinking hard about the pastel shade of pink she wanted and tracing a sort of egg shape on her easel, above the lizard she had painted earlier. A nice little oval appeared, but she frowned. The shade was off. It was a bit too bright. She needed to try again.

"Figura oval," Isabella said, more firmly this time, tracing an oval shape next to the first one to start 'assembling' her flower with oval petals. Whew! The pink was what she wanted this time. Isabella grinned at her easel.

Harriet was loving this lesson. It was her favorite things combined; magic and drawing. If they got to do this in all of their lessons then she would be super happy. Learning how to charm drawings, and use charms to draw made her happy. Maybe it would make her drawings even better. Hattie quickly jotted down what the Professor was saying. So that she would be able to use them later on. She wanted to write down everything that she learnt, so that she could remember it all.

Now onto making her drawing. She wanted an interesting shape, so decided to go with a diamond. They were pretty, and she liked diamonds. Smiling, she waved her wand over to the paper, whilst speaking "Figura Diamond". She was also thinking about the color pink. She liked pink. And she waited. And nothing happened. Oh.

Maybe she needed to try harder. Harriet scrunched up her face a little, and muttered "figura Diamond" Again, whilst still thinking of the colour pink. "Yaaay" She murmured, as a pink diamond appeared on her page. Yay! She did it, and she was happy about it!

Okay. Charms. Here we go.

She could do this, and she would do the WHOLE class really well. Or, at least she would try as always… even if charms seemed to hate her for roughly her first twenty or so attempts. TODAY. Today would be different. She was fifteen now, and her magic should know that she meant business. So yes, today would be the day.

Smiling brightly, she walked into the classroom to greet the Professor … only to find that there was no Professor. And no magic required. Great. … and she wasn’t even that good at drawing.

Moving over to a free board, she stared at the canvas… And stared some more… And soooome more for good measure.

Nope, no idea what to draw.

She thought about her Summer and the many times Alis had ‘forced’ her to colour in and draw with her. Her little sister had never cared – always ending up with a masterpiece. Right. Be more like Alis.

Dipping her fingers in the paint, she covered her finger in a blob of paint before putting it on the canvas, closing her eyes and she began to draw. She formed a shape in her mind – but knew that the paper version probably wouldn’t match… and that was okay… because actually, it was quite fun.

Maybe he should have had Ansley step in and teach this lesson. That made so much more sense then him doing it. He could appreciate art as long as he wasn't near it while it was being made. He stayed in his office away from the finger painting and while he was in there he imagined how much of a mess the room would be. Someone would probably try to splatter it on the walls or something. He could envision points being taken and detention most likely.

When it was finally time to go in Julien took a deep breath and stepped in. His brow raised to the cleanliness of the room. Yes, he was impressed. He was also impressed to see Daxton and Blaise. They both got nods of approval. He was glad they were there, he was glad everyone was there. "Good afternoon. If you could please stop painting." With a flick of the wand there were towels moving towards each of them. "Use these to clean up your hands." No paint on your robes!

"Charms is something that truly can make our lives easier in so many ways, but to know how much easier it is you have to first remember how hard it was without magic. Some of you just started to learn back in September while others of you have been doing it for years so it is easy to forget what it was like to not have it." They were reminded every summer, but he was making a point. "The first thing we do as children when it comes to art is finger paint, which you are doing here. The next step is usually picking up crayons or a paint brush to use. " He looked at all of them as he spoke. His eyes hitting his own horrid picture for a second before he vanished it away.

"I want you to take a moment, you can use the finger painting, crayons, or paint brush and actually make something. A stick figure, a fish, anything you would like. Go ahead and take five minutes."

Having opened her eyes to reapply paint a few times, she knew that she had a squiggly mess of a thing in front of her – but she had to be honest, the colourful mess did make her feel better and happy when she looked at it. It was rough and not in the least bight GOOD, but that didn’t matter.

She smiled at the Professor and rolled her eyes a little. She knew just how hard things could be, she worked with animals and never normally considered using magic around them in case it freaked them. However, she got it. Picking up a paintbrush she dipped it in water and then in the paint before she drew a thicker border around the outside of the picture.

There. Simple but she didn’t want to draw something that wouldn’t go with the original picture.

Julien was not comfortable paint in this room, but his effort was to try and reach some of the more hands on students and different levels of learning. He would soon show them why it was fun to know charms. Charms were an amazing piece to life if you knew the right things to do.

Though it didn't seem like Daxton was the only one that felt the need not to do anything. There were a few. Seriously did parents not teach respect anymore or you know if instructions are given shut up and just do them when it is a Professor. He stared at the first year a bit, the over eager one that seemed to now have an attitude on top of it...

"The point is to learn why we do what we do. I can give you words and movements all day, but do you truly understand why you need to do it. Can you appreciate it that way? I can answer for you, no, you can't. In my classroom I do things to help all learning styles learn as well as give explanation and examples behind the learning." Though she should have known that by now. It was November and classes had been going on. "Please focus on your creation so you can really know the why soon."

Merlin....

When Blaise spoke up the vein that was about to pop went down again and a rare smile crossed his lips. "You are still young yet Blaise, you keep working on Incendio and you will get it. Working hard to achieve something don't make you a slow learner nor does it make it out that it is harder for you. It just means you are dedicated and determine to succeed. Charms do make your life easier. What if you are somewhere there is no other way to get fire, but with your wand? Will you just freeze because you can't start the fire by rubbing two rocks together? We have a very lucky gift with magic that we should embrace and try our best to master. Before teaching and even now I do love to experiment with charms, try to make new ones that can help with life."

He glanced at the rest of the class. "What Blaise is saying speaks lots of truth for younger wizards. You are use to using tools that aren't magic so it does come easier. I myself will pick up a broom once in awhile, but if I can just stay in my chair and wave my wand wouldn't that be easier? Now I had you start with finger paints because as a young child you probably have finger painted. It's messy, it's fun for the child, and it drives parents and adults nuts. Perfect combination, but what if you could bring that finger paint to life or at least make it seem that way. I saw a hand earlier what if that hand could wave?" He turned and flicked parchment to the board and went over, "I'm not a good artist, but if I was going to make a stick figure person and wanted him to walk I could either draw or paint a few stick figures to indicate he was walking or use magic." Lifting his wand he he traced the stick figure, " Animatae"

Watching the stick figure move around the page he finally glanced at the class. "Is this more of an entertainment thing then making our lives easier, yes, but isn't it more interesting then just a standing still figure? You can use the drawing that you have already made or you can make a new one, but please go ahead and bring it movement. The wand movement is just tracing your drawing and then saying the words, Animatae." Not where he was going to start with the lesson, but teachable moments.

There are dangers all over, you could get lost, taken, try to run away." Plenty of dangerous things even in the castle could happen that the boy would need his wand to save his life.

He turned to see that Miranda had done it on the first try. Impressive for a first year, but not fully out of the ordinary here. "Very good Miranda, this spell is a basic animation. There are many charms that can make the art work do many more things, but lets start with the basics at the moment."

Turning back to Blaise he couldn't help but notice he hadn't even brought out his wand. "You do have your wand today don't you? It is needed for every charm lesson. A wizard should never go anywhere without it." If he didn't have it there really was no point of being in class today.

Okay, so the next step was to animate the drawing… Except her drawing was mostly lines and squiggles and patterns. Hmmmm. On closer inspection, she noticed a circle she had drawn in almost the centre, where the lines didn’t quite match up, so there were three overlapping circles - but the start and ends of them matched.

Curious.

She slowly traced the weird, extended circle as she focused and held her wand just so like Griffin had shown her. ”Animatae.” She said, clearly. Lowering her wand, she watched as the circle stayed in-animate. …. No surprise there that it hadn’t worked for her… even if it had worked for some of the others.

She shook her head to clear any doubt in her mind that she couldn’t do this charm, and then retraced the pattern. ”Animatae.” The Welsh girl repeated. This time, with a happy smile, she watched the three circles rotate around as if doing a waltz. How cool was that?!

Were they following? Especially the ones that you could tell by their face were not enjoying this at all. Turning to his canvas he pointed his wand. "You will want to think of the color you want your drawing, I am going to think about red. The incantation is figura and then the shape you want. So lets say I want to make a circle. I will take my wand and make the circle so it knows the size I want and then do the incantation." Turning to the parchment he moved his wand in a big circle motion, but made sure the circle wasn't perfectly round, "Figura circle" A perfectly round circle the size he had wanted appeared.

"Now using the next parchment on your easel go ahead and work on just making shapes. Remember to say the shape you want so that it will work."

Still smiling, Marsha looked up and around the easel (why were they so BIG?) and watched as the Professor drew a wonky circle only to have a rice red circle appear on his page. OKAY.

This was awesome.

Turning back to her parchment, she gave it one last smile before ripping the page free… Since she wasn’t tall enough to flip it over the top of the board.

Looking at her new, blank piece of paper she aimed her wand at the bottom left of the paper. Thinking of the colour red, she too drew a circle in the air. ”Figura Circle.” Nada. Sighing, she tried again. ”Figura Circle.” Still nothing.

Listening to her classmates, she realised she was emphasising the wrong part of the charm and so she tried again. ”Figura Circle!” This time, she managed! She watched as a red circle appeared on the parchment. About three inches high. How smart. She could never draw circles perfectly.

Moving over slightly, and thinking of the colour blue this time, she drew a square just to make sure that it wasn’t a complete fluke. ”Figura square.” This time, the charm worked for her perfectly and a three inch square sat happily on the page next to the circle. She tried again, going for a green triangle and then a fourth shape of a yellow pentagon.

You know, just so she had a shape per house.

Grinning and happy that her extra charms practise seemed to be paying off, she kept making different shapes in different colours until the Professor told them to stop again.

Only what she traced would become animated. Interesting. She was going to have to give that a try sometime when she had more time to mess about and wasn't in the confines of a lesson. There was probably a good deal of creativeness that could come along with being able to animate certain parts of a drawing. Surely it was something she could have some fun experimenting with if nothing else.

Hady's thoughts were soon interrupted by the lesson moving on and the need to pay attention least she not know what was happening. Her attention was shifted back onto the Professor as he showed how to make shapes easily. It looked simple enough but didn't being able to do this defeat the entire purpose of drawing and learning? Shrugging her shoulders she set up a clean sheet of parchment onto her easel.

With the use of her wand she drew a circle in the center of the parchment while thinking of the color green, "Figura Circle." There on the parchment was the green circle. A very perfect circle at that.

It was easy enough so far. Beside the circle she made the form of a triangle thinking of it being orange. "Figura Triangle." Right beside the green circle appeared a nice bright orange triangle.

Hady then went on to make a yellow star, a pink heart and a purple diamond.

Kitty sat up straighter and gave a small smile, visibly pleased that the professor had complimented her bat drawing. This made her want to impress him even more with the next spell: Figura.

What shape should she do? She was torn between drawing a ruby or a heart. Kitty loved rubies and for as long as she could remember she had wanted to own one. But the only ruby in her mansion belonged to her mom. On the other hand, a heart symbolized love, and nothing was more important than love to Kitty - not even her elaborate makeup. But...this was just for fun, right? If she drew a ruby, that didn't mean that she cared more about rubies than love.

Closing her eyes, Kitty imagined the color red. Then she began to draw. She was not certain if she was drawing a ruby or a heart, but either way red was the right color. "Figura Ruby Heart!"

Then she opened her eyes.

He returned Haddie's wave hello with his signature megawatt beam. He was enjoying all this very messy activity, and his once plain canvas now a lovely gradient of colors. The Charms Professor has now appeared and Tenacius was just idly listening... Right so this is them learning how to do things by hand minus any kind of tool or magic. Yeah he gets it.

But oh hey now they can use a brush? Tenacius leaned back into his seat and wondered what can he draw now that would matter in a canvass full of paint? As he tried to figure out what he wanted to do next, the Professor continued with his lecture-- whoah wait so now they can get their drawings to move?? Oh oh oh oh talk about motivation.

Right!.... Tenacius decided on a shape-- a triangle, and he took the fine tip brush and dipped it in dark color, then started to draw it against the gradient of oranges and blues. There a triangle.... and a crescent shaped thing for the boat. A ship at sea. He remembered an old painting of his dad's sitting in his den. It looked nothing special, unlike all the other expensive works of art that adorned the place, but his dad seemed very attached to it, and personally this boy liked its simplicity.

Tenacius was suddenly reminded of the artwork he made for Muggle Studies-- but this time Professor Primeaux was actually teaching them the spell on how to animate artwork! Can he go back to Professor Stewart and get his Snoopy drawing again because it would totally ROCK when animated.

But yo focus Curly Top! He grabbed his wand-- messy painted hands and all-- and stated tracing the small lonely ship "Animatae!" he murmured. Is it moving? It was hard to tell. "Animatae!" he chanted again, but this time tracing his wand across the blues of what would be the sea.

-- and it looked like the blue sea started to sway back and forth. His ship also looked like it was moving!

ASDFSADFASDFAS!!! The boy beamed. It was working!

Next step was them actually drawing something with their wand? The leonine lad angled his head-- what else can he add to this? Wait given that theres a sky....oh wait he knows! "Figura circle!" he cast his wand excitedly in the shape of a very bright yellow circle against the backdrop of orange gradients. It worked....kinda. It was incredibly faded thought. "Figura circle!" he chanted again and made a circular shape. His sun was now recognizable, not by a lot, but it was there.

... He was starting to wonder if it was actually easier to paint by brush eh?

Um...okay? Hadley wasn't sure how that answered her question, but decided it meant that yes, she could animate the parts of her picture individually. The squid was first, she decided. Hads traced the squid with her wand and firmly said, "Animatae!" It didn't move. Sigh. "Animatae!" She traced it again, but still nothing. Once more, "Animatae!" This time the squid came to life.

Sort of.

Half of it was moving, the other half, not so much.

But she was getting somewhere now. One more time. Hadley traced the squid again. "Animatae!" This time the whole squid came to life. It took her 5 tries to animate the whole ship, and it's little stick figure sailors, but only two tries to get the sperm whale animated. This was a tricky little spell, but she was loving it. Soon her entire painting was alive. The sperm whale was desperately attacking the squid trying to chew off its tentacles, while the sailors harpooned both the squid and the whale from above. The squid meanwhile had its tentacles wrapped tightly around the whale was shaking him like a rag doll while trying to snap the ship in half while its free tentacles snatched up sailors and threw them across the canvas. The sailors would survive, and swim back to the ship, grab a harpoon and start their attack all over again.

It was the most epic chaotic cycle Hadley ever saw. She was proud of the mayham she created. This was going on the wall at home.

But sadly it was time to move on to the next part of the lesson. Grabbing a fresh canvas, Hadley aimed her want, traced out a circle with a pizza slince cut out of it and cried, "Figura PACMAN!" Nothing.

I don't think your parents would be thrilled to get owls with those things in it about you or any about behavior in a class." He walked over toward him for a moment, "You will take out your parchment and write detailed notes for the remainder of class. You will do the painting by hand since you do enjoy the muggle way more and then after dinner this evening you will return to my office with your wand to show me what you have learned." The boy seemed to need the extra one on one practice anyway seeing from the last two terms.

That was all he was going to say for now, but he'd be watching, always watching.

What....was he talking about....?

This was his Third Year of skipping lessons and plain walking out on others. Not once had anyone tried to stop him, nor did anyone take points or throw him in detention. In fact, he'd stormed out of this class last September and nothing had come of it...so....these 'concerns' the man was having, forgive him, but they seemed misplaced.

"My parents have gotten owls about my future from my Head of House," the only man who seemed determined to meddle, "and it concerns them but not for reasons you might think." They'd sat him down the night before the Train Station; said he was old enough to understand and all that. He sort of saw where they were coming from but that was also not in the conventional sort of way that you would expect.

Behaviour wise, the boy was a model student--in the classes he attended. It had a lot to do with actually wanting to be there, though he supposed the Professor wouldn't know that. Not when his class was the one the boy visited only every once in a blue moon.

Blaise was somewhat put off by the fact the man wouldn't let him leave 'to go get his wand' but he you couldn't really blame him. Must have known setting foot outside meant not coming back at all. Smart man. For now, Blaise did as he was bid, pulling out a sheet of parchment and placing it against his easel. Not willing to disturb his quill already so hard at work, the boy pulled another of his quick quotes quills from his bag and set it to work taking notes on the spell. An interesting sight in truth as both quills scribbled away; being sure to catch everything while he watched.

As the next incantation was given, Blaise peered down at the parchment the quill jotted these oh so detailed (if not somewhat embellished and thus distorted) notes on. It might have bothered him but surely this spell was in his text. He would find it and make better notes later, or have his cousin duplicate his so they could share. Bentley was a good person, he would never let him go without.

When his gaze fell on the parchment again, the boy considered what the Professor had said. 'Finish the drawing by hand'. It WAS finished. The whole drawing was a single line. How was this not obvious? What more did he want?

Blaise looked about the room at the others working diligently now on the new spell. Shapes? He wanted him doing shapes?

Huh. The 13 year old gestured with his finger to the quill that had been taking notes a moment ago. "Horizontal line from the top of that line to...here." He placed a finger on the spot he'd have liked the quill to stop then watched it comply. Oh look at that. Ever the obedient thing. "Another line from that end point to the one at the start in a diagonal direction." Again the quill went to work.

A triangle. There. Shape. The man was welcome.

And even better still..he now had something else to look into after class, because it would be sO exciting to have that bunch of facts in store for conversation.

"Yes, it could work on a temporary tattoo." The movement wouldn't last horribly long, but they kids could have fun with it. "Keep practicing on paper first, but I'd say in no time you could try out a temporary tattoo if that's what you want to use it for." He would never discourage the use of charms.

....And where was she going?

As he moved around he noticed an interesting design from a second year. His grin played on his lips as he watched the potato form on the page. "Interesting design Cornelius, but very interesting imagination you have." He was very impressed by the imaginations today.

"What a very good question Jaemin and it leads right into our next charm we will learn today." He nodded at his work as well. Very good job, all of them.

"So Jaemin just asked a great question. He asked how we could make the circle filled if we wanted. That is very easy and a charm you can use for different things." Going back to his paper he pointed his wand to the center of the circle, "Colovaria" The circle filled in with green. "Now this charm can work on an entire wall, a blank paper, your hair, the cat, or whatever you want to change. I do not advise you to change other people's hair without asking though." He wanted that to be known.

Walking back around the room he glanced at Blaise to make sure he was doing his work and it seemed like he was. Triangles, yes that would work. "Now take some time to fill in one of your shapes or try for the background of your picture. You could also take out another parchment to make it a solid color." Any of these worked as long as they were working.

Change hair color? That sounds easy and nice! Niomi looked down at her blonde hair. Hmm she could change it to anything she would like. Maybe later?

After that though, Niomi went right back to paying attention to the Professor. She watched as the circle the Professor made turn green on the inside. Now, it was her turn. She pointed her wand at the center of the square she made, "Colovaria." The square filled with the color blue. This was a very awesome spell to learn. Niomi was very excited to learn the next step he was going to instruct the class to do.

Juno thought for a moment about what shape she wanted to draw on her new piece of parchment. Her middle name was Star, and her parents like to call her Starfish....so a star would be perfect. Juno thought of the deep shade of purple in her bedroom. It was one of her favorite colors.

She held her wand, and closed her eyes for a moment of concentration. Opening her eyes, she cast the spell, "Figura Star!" She then traced with her wand the shape of a star, and a beautiful outline of a purple star showed up on her canvas. She grinned, and continued to make more in multiple shapes and sizes using the spell. It was really fun!

Oh! There was a spell to fill them in as well? That was so awesome! Man all these coloring lessons were really fun! Juno thought about what color would go well with these stars. Of course there was always yellow, which went well with the purple she had already traced them with.

Juno watched the professor and made sure that she did the precise movements that he did. She pointed her wand directly in the center of one of the stars she had created, thinking of the color she wanted, and said, "Colovaria." The star was immediately filled with a beautiful yellow. She smiled hugely and continued to fill in the rest of her stars using the new spell.

MAN....she just LOVED MAGIC!

So to make a solid circle... he had to cast one spell, and then another? Wasn't there some sort of spell to combine the two, so he wouldn't have to go through all of this trouble? Surely wizards had sorted this out a long time ago... Jaemin squinted at the canvas distastefully, quite tired of the whole entire 'art' spectacle. He just wanted it to be over already.

"Colovaria," he mumbled to himself, sounding out the syllables slowly. "Col-lo-var-ee-ah."

Apparently this was one of those... easy wand movement spells, because the professor had just pointed. That was probably for the best, in this situation. Jaemin pointed his wand at the center of one of the grey circles, and with a soft sigh, muttered the spell again.

"Colovaria."

...aaaaaaand nothing. Great. Fantastic. Now art was killing his ability to do magic, as well.

Cornelius grinned at the professor, hidden amusement twinkling in those green eyes of his. "Thank you, Professor. M'painting my dad. His head is sort of potato-like shape." LOL. His dad had a POTATO HEAD.

Yep. He was definitely sending this masterpiece to dear ol' daddy. He could hang it up in the Falcons' locker room for EVERYONE to see.

LOL. He was brilliant.

Colovaria? Heeeeey! That's the charm Peyton used on him. M'hm. Two Easters ago she turned his hair a ghastly shade of yellow. Now it was his turn and he could change people's hair color. Sorry not sorry, Professor.

Cornelius tilted his head at the potato shape on his parchment. "Colovaria!"

He expected the potato outline to fill with beige but instead the entire parchment turned a creamy color. Well. He was going to have to work on his aiming.

These spells were so fun. He liked them. He could use them all the time to make art and stuff. Except only being able to make simple shapes with this spell was not all that useful unless a bunch of shapes were put together, but that would take a lot of time. More time than he had. How good was the spell? If he said figura mermaid would it draw a mermaid? Everyone seemed to be sticking with basic shapes so Olly went with that too. "Figura Rectangle." He traced the shape of a rectangle over the paper but he forgot to think about a color. He was just thinking about the new paper, which was white, so maybe the shape was there but white? Or maybe he had done something wrong. He tried it again. "Figura heart." And this time he thought hard about the color red as he waved his wand, and a red heart appeared on his paper. Beautiful.

The next spell sounded pretty simple as well. He decided to just make the background of his paper a different color. So he waved his wand and thought hard about a nice soft pink color. "Colovaria." It turned pink, though it was a little bit darker than he would have liked. Oh well, it wasn't like anyone would know that the spell hadn't turned out as hoped. He would just have to practice some more.

Making random shapes had been easy. Her parchment now had several different shapes all in various sizes and colors. They didn't work together to form anything as she could've so easily done but rather it was just a simple plain line of shapes. All that really mattered was she had done what was asked of them and had succeeded in doing so.

The following spell they were supposed to use was easy as well. Hadleigh had been using it for years already to change the color on many different things but mostly her hair. Which she liked to add green streaks into which most everyone knew however it had been awhile since she had done so. That wasn't exactly the point though right now...maybe later.

Aiming her wand at the parchment around all her shapes she thought clearly of a pretty shade of silver. "Colovaria!," she spoke clearly a small smirk tugging at her lips as the background of her drawing changed to a shiny silver. Nice work Hades. Nice work.

Now, Colovaria was a charm that Marsha knew! And, unlike the other charms, knew would work for her first time. Humph for pesky charms. Hehe. With a grin, she remembered when she had turned the full wall outside of Professor Flamsteed's office red. Well, it had been their homework to change objects around the school!

Focusing on the parchment in front of her, she looked at the four symbols she had. Holding her wand in front of her, she held it out and pointed at the pentagram. Thinking only of the colour purple, she made the correct wand movement as she said "Colovaria!" With a beaming grin, she watched the Hufflepuff pentagon fill with a deep purple.

WHEEEEE.

Eyeing the red circle, she tilted her head a little as she tried to figure out what colour to fill it with. Holding her wand up she once again performed the charm, her eyes happy and proud as the bold three inch high circle filled with the colour red. Perfect.

She then moved on to the green square. Hmm... Green and Black. Yes. "Colovaria." The Welsh girl said as she thought of the colour of ink and then grinned as it filled in the shape perfectly, leaving a crisp border around it. She definitely wouldn't have been able to draw it that perfectly without magic.

Moving on the fourth shape she had drawn, the blue triangle, she pictured a nice sky blue instead of the royal navy blue that she had used the first time. "Colovaria!" She beamed, proud of herself when the fourth shape she had drawn also filled up with colour.

She wanted to kiss the charm. Thankfull once she managed to get a charm to work for her - they seemed to work... It was just getting them to work in the first place that seemed to be the hard part.... But she did really like Charms... even if it was hard work.
