Hey Welcome to Snitchseeker, all that... Anyway, I'm Kristin, and one of your friendly mods of the month, representing August. And I'm writing this at almost 3 am, so excuse any babbling. xD
A little about me and SS: I've been a member here since December 2007, joining upon the suggestion of another member of Snitchseeker who I'd become friends with on Dissendium.com, and been involved here ever since. Starting with the RPs, where I had two terms as the Ravenclaw prefect, then one as Quidditch Captain. And when the Diagon Alley RP started, I joined that as first a shopkeeper assistant at Gringotts, then moved on to shopkeeper of Madame Malkin's, which I still am now, along with the supervisor of the north side of the street. I also am involved in the Ministry RP, as a member of the department of Magical Law Enforcement, and have been the Divination professor in the school RP for the last two terms.
Outside of the RPs, I'm also one of your lovely mods right here in Platform 9 3/4, and I wrote for the site magazine (and was head writer for), Seeker of the Snitch, until it was dissolved fairly recently due to time issues. I'm also the sponsor of the Arthur and Molly Weasley fan club, and am a member of quite a few others.
In case you haven't figured it out by now (or noticed my tag), I'm a bit of an RP addict, but luckily that only began after I was done with schooling. Yes, I am an adult, with a bachelor's degree in art, emphasis in art history. Although, I don't use my degree much, seeing as I'm a lowly sales assistant at the Kohl's near my house. My house where I sadly live with my mother (who doesn't appreciate my being just this side of an insomniac) and my cat, Hermione. I love to write/create the multitude of characters who populate my brain, read (of course), watch television/see movies, draw... I've known how to cross-stitch, crochet and knit for a while now but haven't actually created anything lately...
Now to set you loose. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll try to answer the best I can. (There are some types of questions I struggle with. Just to warn you) And definitely, have fun and keep aware of the rules. Wouldn't want to start things off on the wrong foot.
You would totally fit in with the Weasley's. I mean, Quidditch captain, prefect.... Do you have red hair too?! Jk, lol. (By the way, this is a compliment, who wouldn't want to be a Weasley?)
Hey! Do you know of any good fanfiction (HP related) sites? Ones that stay true or close to the books. I love reading ones that look at the story through other's perspectives (Hermione's, Fred's, George's, Dean's, etc.)

Nice to meet you as well, and I'm flattered you'd think I'm the perfect person to ask that.
Anyway, it's pretty simple to join the site RPG once you've gotten sorted (or, even, before, as you're welcome to post in Diagon Alley right now as a member, even before you officially get sorted. But seeing as sorting's open now, either case works). Basically, all you have to do is create your character, and then head over to the Wizarding World RPG forum and start posting. Limited to DA, currently, but once the school Sorting is over, Ministry placement should open as well and then you can get involved in the Ministry RP. And the Hogwarts RP will open again around September 1st, with the Hogwarts Express and then the school term beginning. *nods*
But in a nutshell, you just need to create a character and then post them in the RP to get involved.

I guess the best answer I can give to that is enjoy being involved in a community of HP fans. Get sorted, join the RPG, or just explore the wealth of forums SS has to offer. There's games, chat threads, fanfiction, places for people to discuss just about anything TV/books/movies/music (The Leaky Cauldron forums)...

Thank you anyway.
That is a good question. I can't really say I'd want to be an animagus, but my very first RP character ever (not here on SS, and it actually was basically myself) ended up being an animagus who could transform into a white tiger. So possibly that, but I'm not really sure.

How did I first get involved? The simple answer is, I got sorted and joined the RPG. I also spent a bit of time in the games forum (WWW), and I practically live in the chat forum (St. Mungo's). Just getting to know everyone and then involvement just sort of happened.

Also (I apologize), but if you don't mind, is there somewhere we can view your art, such as DevianArt I believe it's called or something of that nature?
Actually, I don't draw a lot of HP-related things. Most of my work actually occurred in the classes I had to take for my degree, but in general it's just whatever piques my interest.
And I pretty much only have my works in my photobucket account, along with everything else. *shrugs* Never really got into DeviantArt, although I see the point of it.

Pottermore...
The fact we couldn't create our own usenames didn't really bother me, as for the most part I got lucky enough that there was at least one decent option every time I tried to register. And I really like my account that I was able to verify (it amuses me for certain reasons, actually). And yes, I definitely am planning on working it into the mix of my HP involvement.
DarkLordMouldyWart: There is a field in everyone's profile on SS now where they can post their Pottermore names, so it's easy to find out if they decide to include it. (I have mine there) But in the same respect, for security reasons it might not be the best idea to go about advertising who you are there. Especially before everything gets finalized.

You have no idea how accurate that description is, about my RPing. But anyhow, I think my love really started right when I began, as it's an outlet for my creativity. Kind of like writing a highly complicated story with a LOT of different co-writers. And I'll admit keeping in character gets a bit more complicated the more characters you create, especially when trying to switch back and forth between them. But practice helps, along with a bit of a skill in tapping into each character when needed.

Hi I love your username, by the way.
Honestly, I think I'd enjoy meeting anyone from the books (although probably not the Death Eaters or Voldie), but in any case I'd probably just ask them about their world. It's all pretty fascinating, after all. Maybe I'd go see a Quidditch game or something.
Actors, I think I'd like to meet Emma. Or Evanna, as her tweets rather amuse me most of the time, so I think I'd have fun with her. Probably just hanging out, talking, doing whatever. (I'm easy when it comes to things like that. Don't need anything crazy)

It's nice to meet you as well
Well I'm not a Quidditch captain anymore (just a former one), and I only was one for one term in the RPG, but it's fun, crazy, stressful, exciting...And I really don't know how I manage to do so many things at once. Amazing multitasking skills? A time-turner would be definitely helpful, but unfortunately no, I don't have one.

Hi! Is it a cop-out to say I just like the magic of it all? The idea that there could be this entire other world intermingled with reality, where magic is a way of life and fanstastic creatures truly exist. Honestly, I truly do wish I could be there.

I know it can be overwhelming, but there are people the entire way who can help you along.
Sorting (as it also just opened): You click the link in the news post, which takes you to a questionnaire that you simply answer and then shortly afterward you'll receive a PM letting you know the result (aka where you've been Sorted to). The waiting period changes depending on how many quizzes are submitted at once, as we have to look at all of them and process them, but it usually doesn't take more than a week or so.
RPG: The SSRP takes place in its own forum, here. It consists of the three main areas of the Wizarding World in canon, timeline occurring a long time in the future, beyond the time of Harry and his friends (the current year in the SSPR is 2075). Hogwarts, the Ministry, and Diagon Alley. The inhabitants are everyone's characters they've created, and we all interact like anyone would, with magic, spells, wands, etc. basic plotlines are usually explained, as there are information threads for each section that are updated as often as possible. And once again, pretty much everyone is wiling to help you out there if needed.

Why thank you. I wouldn't take that as anything but a compliment, by the way. But no, I don't really have red hair. It can sort of look auburn-ish in the right lighting (which apparently I get from my paternal grandmother. Random fact) but officially I have brown hair. With blonde sort of highlights in the front (that sometimes has made people say I was blonde)

What made me want to read the series... My best friend. We regularly influence each other that way, as she's the one who introduced Buffy to me (which, I bypassed her in the obsession factor regarding), HP (same)... I'm not sure what I've gotten her into, as I haven't quite managed to talk her into joining SS yet. But anyway, yeah. She was reading the books, and one day she showed me one of the movies. And then lent me the first three books around the time HBP came out, and about halfway through SS I decided to buy HBP, then the rest of the books so I could give her back her copies. And the rest was history.

Unfortunately, not really. I know fanfiction.net has HP fanfics on there, as I'm a member and have read a few. And then there's the fanfiction forum here on SS. But that's about it. I haven't really looked too much for HP fanfics.

Haha, my grandparents have a cat named Hermione too! I was the one who picked out her name when they first got her. She had a brother who I named Harry, but he was given to another home. My family also got two kittens a couple weeks ago. One is a tabby and the other is black with white on its paws, neck, and stomach. I named the tabby Albus and the other one Severus!

ladysnape: Thank you. And unfortunately my Hermione has no HP-named siblings or anything. Although I teased my mom once when we'd seen a particularly adorable orange tabby that if we adopted it I'd be forced to name it Crookshanks. Needless to say, that didn't happen. Although I kind of named my iCat Crookshanks anyway. Also, awwww kittens!
SilverPatronus: I'm sure that post wil turn up. If anything, in your posts list you can access in your profile. I use that every once in a while to locate posts Either way, don't feel stupid. It can happen to anyone.

I definitely don't feel so bad joining now! I also have a bachelors degree in science actually... a double major. I'm going back to school for my masters!
So hello fellow adult! I've been in a few RP groups dating way back to like 05. when I was still in highschool!
Do you prefer any certain house when you rp in the HP world?

Hi
Well, it's like you'd expect being a prefect would be. You're expected to be a role model for everyone else, participate in things, and altogether help make sure the others aren't doing anything wrong.
And it's definitely easy to get involved in the RP. Show an interest, post, and then you're in. Easy as that.

I'm glad to make you not feel so bad about joining. Although I can't say science is my strong suit (obviously). And I don't think I'd ever consider trying to get my masters, even if I knew what subject.
But hello anyway. And I don't particularly prefer one house over the other. It just depends on the character I'm playing. Well, and here on SS, you're restricted to whatever House you get sorted into, at least when it comes to Hogwarts student charries.

WOO, Molly and Arthur Weasley Fan Club!! Can I join?
I wish people were more interested in them in terms of the Marauder era. Though I suppose they were just a bit too old to be at school alongside James and Lily and all those other crazy kids..
Weird! I just realized that Molly is older than Snape. Hrrm. That hadn't occurred in my head before..

I don't know. Possibly PoA, as I think I've seen that one the most, plus it was the first one I watched with my dad. Before he'd gotten sick (We actually watched SS up to GoF after he got sick). But I really don't know if I have one. Plus, the awesomeness that is DH2 won't be denied either, even though it's sad

It's nice to meet you as well. And I'm still part of MLE, b ut in any case, I worked in Counterfeit Magic and Equipment Control, and currently am the Chief Superviosr for that section.
Way back when the Ministry RP first opened, I was in Magical Creatures, in the Werewolf Support Services office. But that didn't last long.

Hi Nice to meet you too.
If you're asking who my favorite villain is, I really don't know. In a way, it might be Snape, if we're restricting it to HP. Just because he's so tragic and actually redeems himself in a way.

Well, like I said before, I like Firenze. And I guess he might qualify as a minor character. And I like him because centaurs are awesome, and he wasn't willing to go with what Bane and the other centaurs believed about the wizards and was willing to align himself with Dumbledore and everyone else.

That's curious that you couldn't find anything about that. Also, you could have asked this in the Questions thread. But anyway, since you asked it here...
The easiest way to see one's post count is in their post bit (That little sidebar on all your posts, where you see your avvie, etc.), but you can also access it through your profile, in the "About Me" section.

Thanks for unintentionally inspiring revelations!
Of course you can join. all you have to do is request to, by going into your User CP, then clicking on "group memberships". Once you're in ther, you should see a long list of fan clubs, and all you have to do is click the little circle next to "join group", associated with the A&MWFC. It'll ask for a reason, and then you just have to wait for your request to be accepted.
And LOL to unintentionally inspiring random revelations.
