Hello, everyone! I'm Philipp, or Phil to most people here, also known by my user name Antarctica! on the site, and I am one of your Moderators of the Month for February.
I've been a SnitchSeeker member for about three-and-a-half years now, having registered in August 2007 just a few weeks after the release of the last book. I was initially sorted into Slytherin. (Ravenclaw would have been an acceptable choice too. )
I role-played my - now dearly missed - character Kiri Starstalker for five terms (she was Quidditch Captain for the last of those, and my first RPG character ever) before taking the position of Astronomy professor in the Hogwarts RPG. I'm also the News section editor at the Daily Prophet and a moderator in the German forum these days.
I'm, er, in my early twenties, let's say (), and I study sinology at a large institute for Asian and African studies somewhere in northern Germany.
I'm a vegetarian, an avid reader, a science nerd, a speaker of multiple languages, ... and all yours now. Ask away!

My favourite character has to be Hermione. Strong-willed, smart, independent-minded, sceptical... Yep. I also have a soft spot for Cho.
Not much into "favourite" colours, but purple's cool.

My favourite favourite movie is The Big Lebowski, which I can watch over and over again without getting bored. There are a few others that I really like, and a friend of mine and I were able to quote entire parts of movies to each other. We'd do dialogue and whatnot to keep ourselves amused.

Let's see. I was listening to a song about Antarctica when I was registering, and since I couldn't think of anything better, that just became my name! I'm not quite sure why I added the exclamation mark. Maybe just to make it stand out.
Who said Earth was my favourite planet? Erm... Not that interested in planets, really, but Saturn is beautiful. (And while not a planet as such, its moon Enceladus is an amazing place.) But I also like Mercury. I'm not sure why - it's probably not the planet itself that fascinates me, but how close it is to the Sun. I can only imagine what the sky must look like...
How about something medical? Here is the abstract of a paper coming out of the New England Center for Headache.

In this article we review Harry Potter's headaches as described in the biographical series by JK Rowling. Moreover, we attempt to classify them. Regrettably we are not privy to the Wizard system of classifying headache disorders and are therefore limited to the Muggle method, the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd edition (ICHD-II). Harry's headaches are recurrent. Although conforming to a basic stereotype, and constant in location, throughout the 6 years of his adolescence so far described they have shown a tendency to progression. Despite some quite unusual features, they meet all but one of the ICHD-II criteria for migraine, so allowing the diagnosis of 1.6 Probable migraine.

Ooh. That's a tough question... I think it's because the world is so complete and believable. Sure, there's magic and all that, but it doesn't appear overdone, and apart from all that people still have to deal with problems we're all familiar with. Sinology is the study of China, Chinese language, culture, and history.
That's what I study! I learn modern and classical Chinese, I have classes on history, geography, politics, and lots more like that.

Yes, ma'am, I do.
Over the course of this year, I will go to China for some first-hand experience and studying, but the rest of my studies take place in Germany. Learning the language is only a small part of it, after all - we also have a lot of classes on different aspects of Chinese and East Asian history, politics, culture, and geography.

And yes, it does have rings! They aren't as extensive or well-known as the rings of Saturn, but Uranus has a set of at least 13 distinct rings.
With that many rings already discovered, that gesture would look rather boring and overdone, I'm afraid.

I can speak German, English, Chinese, and Spanish. (In order of "fluentness". )
I also had two years of French in school, but unfortunately I forgot most of that. I also had Latin for seven years, but there aren't many opportunities to speak it, obviously. It's very helpful with Spanish, though - makes it easy to understand Portuguese and Italian.

Non-fiction: The Science of Kissing by Sheril Kirshenbaum. Read this recently, I can definitely recommend it. Fun book, who doesn't want to read about kissing.
Fiction: I haven't had a lot of time for fiction recently. =[ Company by Max Barry is something I picked up, like, a year ago, and I reread it a few weeks ago. Very good.

You speak Chinese more fluent than Spanish?! I'm seriously having a hard time imagining such a situation here for a foreign speaker. Since we both have a passion for learning languages, I'll have several questions. Of course.
In school, we learnt language families. And about Chinese, we also learnt that Chinese... how to put that in English... doesn't change the word. No prefix or suffix at all. It's all based on intonation and the place of the word in the sentence. Is that correct? Doesn't Chinese have even one single prefix/suffixed word at all? Then, isn't it VERY hard for even a native to speak properly?
We've also learnt that Chinese (Language family by grammar) is the hardest language to learn, followed by Turkish (language family). Do you agree? Why yes? Why no?
And I agree up there.^^ I, too, have thought you were studying astronomy. Definitely some credits go to your amazing teaching.
