| | | Fruit Bowl Out of all of the paintings hanging on the walls of the basement corridor, the one depicting a silver fruitbowl is an easy favourite for some of those here at Hogwarts. While many may think that there is nothing special about this particular painting, those who are well-informed about its purpose know what lies beyond. Past this painting is where all of the food you stuff in your mouth three or more times a day is made.
If you're in the need of second breakfast, elevenses, or a mid-afternoon snack, then this is the place to be. If you are someone who knows this particular castle secret, you know those bananas and grapes aren't there just to make your mouth water and your stomach rumble. Simply reach out your hand and tickle the delicious-looking pear in the corner. After it has a squirming fit and laughs, it will transform into a green door-knob and grant you access to the grand Hogwarts kitchen where anything you desire can be whipped up in no time at all.

| For Brandon/Astrid :D ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Out of all the things that Amelia missed most of Hogwarts, one of her favorite pasttimes was seeing the elves. They just deserved soooo much more and she wanted to visit them and pay them the respect that they truly deserved.
It was really fortunate that her new role at Hogwarts allowed such close proximity to the kitchens. And it felt like second nature as she walked up from the potions laboratory to the familiar corridor where the fruit bowl portrait hung.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Cameron Rhodes Ravenclaw Fourth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Phoebe Calypso [s]Dupont[/s] Slytherin Seventh Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Charlie Fox-Matthews Hufflepuff Second Year | Which came first, the phoenix or the flame? Brandon Fox was a growing kid, and that meant he was constantly hungry. He preferred to keep it a secret in case it would get him in trouble, but he was constantly slipping into the kitchens to get himself more food. It was usually just something simple, like a small sandwich or a piece of fruit. He was afraid to take more. But he was just so hungry. Today, one of the house elves had seen him, and that's why he had a delicious foil-wrapped Philly cheesesteak in his hand. He was grateful. He slipped out of the kitchen again, heading to the great hall to eat. And that was when he ran right into a professor, accidentally shoulder checking them. A NEW professor, no less. "Sorry, Professor Adara," he said tensely. Shrinking away, all scared-looking. "It was an accident." Brandon tried to give his professors and other adults in charge some credit, but his instinct said bumping into people with his shoulder and having extra food when he hadn't asked meant a punishment was incoming. He stuck the wrapped-up sandwich behind his back, because he didn't want her to take away his food. The house elves made it just for him!! |

It was fortunate then that of all the Professors for a student to run into it was her as she could completely relate. Although she didn't have the burgeoning appetite anymore, having grown up in a sports-oriented household and raising three now adults through their teenage years, she knew what it was like.
But what she hadn't expected was for a student to run smack into her upon exiting the kitchen. She also didn't mind about the extra food, but one pet peeve of hers was trying to deny it or lie about it. She also would have preferred he eat the extra food in the kitchen and not sneak it around the castle. "Mr Fox. What a pleasant surprise. I didn't know you frequent visits to the kitchens as well?" Perhaps he'd be a good prospect for promoting SPEW. "Care to inform me what's behind your back?"

Brandon looked at Professor Adara with some measure of suspicion. Why was she saying it was a pleasant surprise to see him? Why was she asking about how often he went to the kitchen? His brain told him that it was completely normal, but his experience told him it was a trap. ”I don’t go that much. Only every so often. The house elves didn’t tell me there was any problem. Nobody did.” Though he tried to look nonchalant, his words and his eyes betrayed him. He was obviously convinced that going to the kitchen was something he had to get away with, justify, or at least explain. Even though he hadn’t heard about any rule against it… if an authority figure asked about it, it must be wrong somehow. ”I’m not in trouble, am I?” ”I-“ No, Brandon did not want to reveal what was behind his back. But he did anyway, showing the professor the foil-wrapped sandwich. ”A house elf made it for me when she saw I was hungry. I…” He held the sandwich protectively close, half-convinced Professor Adara was going to confiscate it. Was it a rational fear? Probably not. But it was clearly a non-insignificant worry that he had. ”Please don’t take it.” |

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Perhaps she was confusing to him because she wasn't asking about how often he visited the kitchens. She was merely surprised when there were others who visited the kitchens and appeared kind enough to chat with the house elves. "There is no problem," she shook her head, clearly amused by his anxiety. "You're not in trouble. It's not as if it's after bedtime hours." "Okay that looks delicious and I was actually just coming to the kitchen to see if I could fix myself something. Perhaps you'd like advise me for what to put on a sandwich?" She asked cautiously. "Unless of course you have somewhere else to be, but I don't mind the company." She wasn't going to take it though and she should probably reassure him of such. "I'm not going to take it though. You impressed the elves enough to give you some food, it would be rude of me to take that."

"I helped do the dishes, so that's why I... Oh?" Brandon stopped explaining himself, and just blinked at his professor. Was she SURE he wasn't in trouble? He tried to shut down the paranoid thoughts he was having. Brandon Fox knew she was being genuine, and yet... there was still a part of him that believed adults were trying to trick him so that they could get him in trouble later. He obviously relaxed a lot when she explained that she wasn't confiscating his sandwich. Brandon was historically known to get agitated at the idea of even just sharing food with friends in most cases. It was a whole thing... his food was his food, you know? "Um... thanks," he muttered, tense posture softening. "That's nice of you."
He thought for a moment about her sandwich question. "My whole family likes steak sandwiches," he suggested cautiously. "Unless you're vegetarian. We like to do onions, cheese, and sometimes lettuce with the steak. Never with tomatoes. They're 'icky', as some would say." His older sister had lived with their family over the summers and they kept close in touch... he thought he had heard the "tomatoes are icky and I hate them" complaint from her about a thousand times. His little brother didn't seem to like them either. His mother was long dead and he had never had the chance to ask about tomatoes. His father and Megan had never mentioned their tomato preferences, but Brandon had never once seen tomatoes in the fridge. "Sandwiches taste good when you put sauce on them. Like mayo. I guess." Was this helpful or was more information wanted? He awaited further sandwich questions, not wanting to be unhelpful towards an adult. |

Amelia was thoroughly amused by Brandon as he tried to justify himself. On the one hand she could understand because surely not every professor was as understanding, but she wasn't every professor. In her experience she'd much rather trust in her students that they were doing the right thing and let them make their own mistakes. Unless it was something that had a negative effect on one's wellbeing or the safety of those around them, there was zero harm in letting kids be kids. "You're quite welcome. I'm hear to teach, not babysit, so hopefully you lot don't make have to." She grinned hoping to ease some of his anxiety.
She considered his suggestion for the sandwich. "Steak sounds good. Although I admit my daughter probably wouldn't agree with that, since she's vegetarian....she's been wanting me to eat less red meat though" she chuckled, thinking that it probably sounded like her daughter was a teenager or in her twenties not a fully-functioning adult with a fully grown adult child. "I'm not big on mayo, but maybe some hot sauce. Could probably use a little spice." She eyed his bag and the fruit bowl portrait. "Well you coming in with me or off to go enjoy your own sandwich?" cause all this chatter about sandwiches was making her more hungry.

"I definitely don't need babysitting," Brandon assured her. And if his yearmates did, then... he didn't claim them!! He was super fine with doing his own thing and getting to keep his sandwiches and not being monitored all the time. In fact, he preferred it. Heavily.
Brandon shrugged. "Well... nobody will find out," he said simply. Wasn't the whole point of boarding school to get away from family and their rules? Well... he supposed it may not be for his professor, who probably had a very nice and understanding relationship with her likely very wonderful and caring daughter. He scratched the back of his head, wondering what that was like. All his professors seemed like such... considerate people. He wanted them to be his parents but would die if anyone else knew that.
Brandon looked at the sandwich and back at his professor. "I think I'm going to the great hall now. I'm pretty hungry." He nodded politely at her, before turning and going to eat. |
