When you first enter the room, it may take a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim, green-tinted room. The stony walls are unusually tall for being in a dungeon. Green-hued lamps hover around the perimeter of the room. It seems a bit cold, dull, and damp, but the closer you stand next to the large fireplaces, the warmer you will get. Above the fireplaces are carvings in stone of large snake heads, so you never forget which House you belong to. Additional snake-like carvings slither their way around the fireplaces and along the walls of the room.
Leather couches and armchairs surround the different gathering areas that are accompanied by a fireplace. Various dark wooden tables with matching wooden chairs are set up around the common room as well, providing plenty of space to do your homework, read, study, or plot your next prank.
The windows, the few that exist, seem strangely dim. With a quick glance, you may think they're just insanely dirty. But every once in a while, you might see a fish flash by... or a kelpie... or perhaps a tentacle from the Giant Squid. That's right - you may be in the dungeons, but you share the underground with the creatures of the Black Lake, too.
Make yourself at home. You may want to bring a blanket.
Post potions lesson, Roman felt very lost and confused. Why had Sloane yelled at him? And didn't professors WANT their students to read? So why had Professor Adara wanted to take his book away?
The common room was drafty, as usual, but he felt too anxious to go grab the blanket he had dubbed his common-room-blanket, and instead he paced in front of the fire, waiting patiently for Sloan to appear. He had told her to meet him here for a chat. He didn't need someone yelling at him. Yelling was rude. It was also very attention-drawing, and Roman didn't appreciate it much at all. He had apologized - hadn't he? If he hadn't, he would now.
Most of all, he wished Regina were here. She was always helpful when it came to talking to girls and particularly complicated people in general.

Walking into the common room, Sloane threw the door open in a rage without a care in the world. Was someone behind it? That was their problem. Stopping as she crossed the threshold, she closed her eyes and took a steadying, deep breath, knowing full well it wouldn’t actually help her calm down. She still did it anyway, more so because she knew she’d have to meet Roman here and if she didn’t try and calm herself down, she’d most likely do something silly that would land her in detention.
Opening her eyes, she scanned the cold, dark and rather gloomy looking common room until she found him. Even standing there in front of the first, he was annoying her. Storming over, she stopped in front of him and crossed her arms. She’d wanted to wait for him to say something first. To apologise even but she simply couldn’t help herself. “Don’t ask me to get your ingredients next time, Gellar. Got it?” she hissed, standing there now, her hands involuntarily going to her hips as she stared at him.
What was with the hostility right out of the gate? Roman's eyebrows formed an almost perfect V as he opened his mouth to speak, then shut it again to really reflect on her words. Don't ask for her to get his ingredients again? Was she REALLY mad about that, or was there something else going on? He couldn't understand! He wouldn't feel mad about being asked that, and while he might not help the asker out by doing said task, he'd probably have said no with a shrug and an indifferent wave of his hand.
But anger?
Roman just took a deep breath. "I won't. Merlin, Sloane. Gellar-ing me and all," he scoffed. "I don't think what I did warrants your reaction, but regardless, I do feel bad. I didn't mean to offend you," he said simply. It was an easy promise to give and fulfill.

Sloane looked at Roman wit her hands on her hips, her expression one that she’d hoped was calmer than it actually was, but in reality, she was annoyed. She couldn’t quite put her finger on why exactly his request had annoyed her so viscerally. Maybe it was a mixture of being both told off by the professor and then the nerve of Roman to simply ignore the instructions, to ask her to get his ingredients, and to then simply continue reading. It didn’t sit well with her. Not one. Little. Bit.
When he agreed to her demand request, her expression eased ever so slightly. Taking a moment, she listened and chose her next words very carefully, able to now, thanks to his acknowledgement that this wouldn’t happen again. “The reason Roman, is because I am not some kind of slave or butler that you can boss around. I do not appreciate being sent over to get your things whilst you sit there and read your book.” Even now as she recounted her experience of the whole ‘situation’, she could feel her blood boiling. Maybe did need to calm down a little. In an attempt to soothe the situation, she did gracefully accept his apology, after all, he was completely in the wrong. “It’s okay. Don’t do it again and we’ll be just peachy. I’ll even sit there listening to you talk about Poirot,” although that was mainly down to her actual interest in the book itself.
How preposterous. A butler?! Roman immediately scoffed. “I was certainly not making that assumption about you. So I am definitely sorry for that coming across that way,” he said quickly, but he did quirk an eyebrow in her direction.
He would have to watch his words with this one. Perhaps he had been TOO aloof in potions. He didn’t appreciate her tone when she said ‘don’t do it again…’ because…well, what if he needed to do it again for whatever reason? He could hardly see the future, and maybe he’d need to ask her to get his supplies for a very innocent reason. “Well, since we’re able to get past this…can we talk about how unfair Professor Adara is? She took points from you, and I thought I was much ruder. I ignored most of the class to read my book.” Perhaps she had it out for poor Sloane. Adults could be that way sometimes. His mother was a prime example.
And a common enemy merged alliances, Roman found. So, he would talk about the common enemy and hopefully forge better terms with Sloane henceforth.

Sloane actually rolled her eyes as he tried explain himself. He was such an idiot. “I guess it’s okay. I don’t like being told what to do. I guess you couldn’t have known that.” Her reluctance to ignore his stupidity had somewhat wilted. Most people deserved one chance to say something stupid and annoying to her. One was all they got however so he was on his last life.
It did help however that he’d brought up how unfairly she’d been treated by Professor Adara. For once, he was actually talking sense! Her posture relaxed ever so slightly as she replied, her expression easing as the words left her lips despite how annoyed she felt. “I know! I clearly didn’t deserve to lose any, like at all, and you just get away scot-free.” He’d clearlyignored her and yet she was the only one to lose points.
Not having a lesson for a little while, Sloane took a seat by the fire to warm up and sighed. “I’m not one for revenge,” which was a lie. “but I’d love to prank Professor Adara with some kind of potion.” She wasn’t sure if she could trust Roman, but she was about to find out.
What drastic changes have occurred in this Room over the most of the term, From a spotless and neat Common Room when you would have first arrived in September to a dust filled, untidy, sneeze-inducing place where it surely would be uncomfortable to spend even a second.
The green hued lamps that hover around the room are now covered with dust so that only a sliver of green light seemed to be emitting now. The stone snake heads were unrecognisable due to thick filth resting on them. Cobwebs and grime littered the windows and despite the chill, there is no fire present in the fireplace.
Whatever have those House Elves have or not have been up to?
Etta cheerfully made her way inside the common room and upon entering something was not right? It didn’t feel right. The light in the room was slim. It was darker than usual here and cold. Where was the fire? The windows were filthy, heck everything was filthy. But why?
Eww.
The dust bunnies were triggering her allergies. ”Achoo!” Etta covered her mouth as she sneezed. ”Excuse me.” She politely said to no one in particular.
Phoebe didn't spend a lot of time in the Slytherin common room. She didn't feel quite welcome here, and she never had. The feeling had only gotten worse. She did spend time in the common room at night, when she could be alone and not bother anybody.
But now she avoided the common room at all times. It was messy and disorganized and gross and dark and ridiculously cold and damp. Worst of all, it was dusty, and Phoebe was asthmatic. She was heading out in the morning, trying to slip away before her dormmates woke up, and................ she starting coughing and wheezing like crazy. She sat down on one of the couches, but that just displaced more dust, and made everything infinitely worse.
Phoebe was pretty sure she needed help. But hopefully she could deal with this herself before she had to bother anybody... She definitely didn't want to bother anybody. Because this was embarrassing, okay? And she didn't want to draw any more attention to herself at this school.

Had it been that long since she had been in here?
No, she really didn't think so. As the Slytherin Head of House she came in here rather often to keep up with things. Like checking in with the students, updating the notice board and recently cleaning. From the looks of things however as she stepped into the common room, it looked like this placed hadn't been cleaned in months!
There was no way she would be leaving it like this. Whatever the house elves were doing, cleaning the common rooms didn't seem to be it. With a gentle flick of her wrist, her wand was in her hand. A soft wave of her and a quiet whisper of an incantation was given to begin the clean up. This was all before her eyes even fell upon the two young ladies in the room.
Hazel eyes spotted the first years the very second that dim light was once again shining as it normally was. "Hello girls. This room is quite the mess today, isn't it?" They need not fret though, she would have it all clean and warmed up soon. But was that Miss Dupont coughing and wheezing like that?"Miss Dupont, are you alright?

Alas her Head of House joined the common room and got to work. Something that Etta realized she should have done to begin with instead of remaining in a state of bewilderment. Apologies, common room. Moving past that Etta realized she wasn’t very familiar with Slytherin’s Head of House but she seemed rather nice and kind, making the youngling’s anxiety decrease.
”Hello.” Etta politely bowed, though she was unsure if the HoH would notice since the room was dimmed. ”Has this happened to the Common Room before?” Etta was still new to the school so she wasn’t familiar with much yet. Even if half the term had been completed thus far.
It didn’t escape Etta’s notice that someone sounded unwell and she went to investigate. To her surprise it was fellow dorm mate, Phoebe. Yikes, the wheezing didn’t sound very good. ”I think you should go see the healer...” Etta suggested to Phoebe. Hopefully the healer would have medicine to aid her dorm mate and she won't feel so ill.
Shifting focus back to the subject of cleaning the youngling asked the Head of House, ”is there anything I could do to help clean?” She’s up for any task that would help with organizing the room again.
Phoebe was rifling through her bag for her inhaler when her HoH (who she had been avoiding so that Paton couldn't ask her about her Hogwarts experience so far) and one of her nicest dormmates approached her. No!! She didn't need any help!! Everything was fine and great, and Phoebe could do things all by herself. Like she always had and planned to do. "It's Phoebe Calypso," she wheezed out. Phoebe Dupont wasn't her name. Well- technically it was- but- but- whatever. "I don't need to go to the hospital wing," she insisted. "It's just... really dusty..." If she felt a little better, she'd be ranting about the insane and unsafe amounts of grime. She frowned deeply, almost like she might cry. "This roomMakesItLookLikeNobodyCares. About... us." And that made Phoebe really, really sad. She didn't want to live in a grimy, dark, cold, and unloved-looking place anymore. But again, there were more pressing issues than her feelings, so she went back to trying to find her medicine. She was pretty sure it was in the outside pocket? Maybe? "Can I see a healer, please? IChangedMyMind." It just made her so uncomfortable to ask for help at this school. She wished she were at Stemp House instead.

With her usual neat appearance, not a single hair out of place, Florence was less than pleased by the sight of the common room as she stepped off the stairs from the dorm. Of course, she'd noticed it hadn't looked completely perfect for awhile, but the lack of cleaning and the build up of dust must have been so gradual that it was easy ignore amid all her school activities that it didn't grab her attention until now.
By the light of the one clean lamp, she saw that she wasn't alone here either. Two of her dormmates, Henrietta and Phoebe, were already present, and so was Professor Paton.
"Are we supposed to clean this?" she asked, mostly to their Head of House, but she glanced at her dormmates too. Though she kept the area around her bed in the dorm clean, she wasn't thrilled by the idea of having to clean the entire common room too. But she supposed she could help, especially since a professor was here and all.

Even as Hady turned her full undivided attention onto the young ladies before her, the cleaning charms continued. Windows were cleaned, lamps were wiped of all dust and grim, the floor was once again spotless. It took a little bit of time but it was getting there. If need be she would repeat the charms again and again to ensure the cleanliness of the area. This level of build up of dust alone just.. it wasn't right.
"Well, this is my first term as Slytherin Head of House but when I attended Hogwarts some years ago, this was also my house. It's common for some dirt and grim but never to this level, no. She wasn't about to go and say what other things occurred around here and upset the girls! Oh, how nice of Henrietta to ask about helping! Hady smiled gently. "I'd be happy to teach you some cleaning spells if you'd like to help get this room even cleaner. Or you may use whichever spells you already know. She wouldn't say no to having some help and she was sure the room would appreciate it too!
Blink. Blink. Calypso. She was sure the young girls surname was Dupont. The look on her face was a curious one but she smiled nonetheless and gave a nod of her head. "Phoebe Calypso. I'll remember that. That was just fine with her. Now she was going to trust that the first year knew her body and whether or not she needed to see the Healer. However she would keep an eye on her just in case. "I don't know why the house elves aren't doing their job as they are the ones that come in here and clean but until that is sorted out, I will take over that task. As their HoH it was her job to make sure they were taken care of and she would come in here several times and day and clean this area if she needed to. "Yes, of course. Would you like one of us to walk with you?
The sight of another first year had her attention shifting for the briefest moment. "Hello, Miss Schultz. You don't have to clean up in here but you're welcome to help if you like. The more the merrier. And the more that helped clean up the faster it would get done.
