Photo credit goes to LockhartianThe common room emits a warm, welcoming glow as you enter from the sloping passageway; a cosy nook burrowed away at the castle’s basement level. Somehow the low-ceilinged room always manages to appear as if basked in natural sunlight, even though the small round windows are barely above ground level. They’re the perfect height for watching the seasons pass by - the orange-reds of autumn leaves giving way into the white snow of winter; the daffodils and tulips signifying new beginnings in spring giving way to a pleasant grassy meadow of wildflowers come the summer.
The room, itself, is as cheerful and cosy as you’d expect for the home of the Hufflepuffs. The walls are covered in a mottled buttercup yellow with black detailing, whilst the woodwork is warm and honey-toned with a polished natural beeswax finish. Comfortable, worn in couches, ottomans and beanbags are clustered in small groups throughout the space, freely moved according to conversations being held and games being played at any given time. The main feature is of course the fireplace, with a tiled surround and intricate carved mantle of dancing badgers. Above it hangs the portrait of Helga Hufflepuff herself, holding a golden cup up in a toast to the hive of activity below.
Whether you want to relax with a book, play a game of exploding snap or finish up homework, the Hufflepuff Common Room is the perfect home from home.

It was one of those rare occasions when Margaret was spending her free time not outside, basking in the fresh air and training for Quidditch, but actually inside, studying.
This wasn't some stressed, fifth-year version of Margaret studying angrily, either, she was studying charms today, so even though the seventh year had several books and notebooks open around her on the floor, she was actually smiling. Well, smiling and eating sweets. So maybe it wasn't the studying that was making her happy after all. |

Upon arrival, Henry immediately spotted Mamie on the floor and plopped down close to her, avoiding squishing her books and notebooks. Oof, she really was...hard at work with the studying, wasn't she? This seventh year couldn't relate. "Hey, Mamie! What you studying?" He settled his stuff on the floor as well, though not as spread out as Mamie's were. "You want some?" He had seen her sweets, so he offered his uncapped jar of gummy bears to her.

Henry, who much liked working with bold and vibrant colours as the other pages of his sketchbook showed, enjoyed the challenge. He then paused at the page where his sketch was, of a demiguise crouching and looking at the viewer. "It's still a rough sketch, work in progress. It's supposed to be predicting the future here." | zzz do not disturb (actually do lol) A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The table was covered in parchment and textbooks. Multiple coloured pens for highlighting sentences were scattered around the table and an ink bottle stood dangerously close to the table's edge. Threatening to fall to the ground.
It was around 6 a.m., quite early in the morning. He had gone to bed but by 4 a.m., he had been tossing and turning in his bed, unable to sleep and had decided to do some extra studying for his OWL exams in the common room instead.
He had no idea when he had fallen asleep at the table with his face on top of a sheet of parchment still wet with ink and mumbled something about his cat in his sleep.

It had been instilled in her, thanks to nearly needing summer tutors to improve her grades to what her parents called "satisfactory" and she called "more than passing". She shook her head. "Not officially, I sort of assumed I'd study with my group from O.W.L.s but... well, everyone's not taking the same classes anymore. Might have to mix it up." The more the merrier, in her opinion. Studying alone was no fun at all, plus with a group, they could get new perspectives on what they'd learned.
For example, she didn't take Care of Magical Creatures. "What's a demiguise?" she asked. Obviously something with silver hair, but...lots of people had silver hair. She helped herself to another gummy bear before turning her own page of notes and beginning a section on the Patronus charm. This was mostly copying, since she'd made tons of notes and done research the previous term, when she'd gotten Evan to help her with her charm. Once she'd figured that out, she had the casting down. It was the theory that she was worried she'd slip up on, or forget something crucial on the written exam.
It seemed silly, in her opinion, to have a written portion of something like charms. Why not just have the practical portion and get on with it?
She alternated her pen colors, trying to draw attention to some parts of her notes by using purple, and writing things that she thought were less important but necessary background information in boring old blue. She leaned back toward Henry to see the sketch. A strange looking creature, that demiguise. She didn't know enough about the creature nor art to evaluate his skill, so she just nodded. "What's it predicting?" she asked. Demiguises = silver hair and predicting the future. See? She was learning new things and not just revising her notes. | |
