Once you get through the barrels you will enter a very warm and comfortable common room. The Hufflepuff common room is decorated in the gold and black of the house colors with the walls a nice warm honey with an accented black line in the middle of each wall. The fire place on the end brings warmth in the winter to all that sit in the over sized comfy couches and chairs. Black and gold beanbags sit along the wall for anyone wanting to study in groups as well as two larger badger stuffed animals that are the best to use as a pillow if you are lounging on the floor.

On the far left wall right in between the two openings that lead to either the boy or girl dorms hangs a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, while smaller portraits of famous Hufflepuffs can be found scattered around the other walls. Sitting on a table you can find a small radio for any puff that wants to relax and enjoy some music together.

Whether you are here to study or make memories with friends the common room is always a great place to sit back and relax after a long day of classes.

After a long night...extremely long in this case, you are finally allowed back to your common rooms. Nothing sounds better than a good night's sleep to put it all behind you. However, it doesn't appear anyone will be getting much sleep tonight.

A trip up or down to the dorms will reveal the rooms all ransacked. There isn't a single trunk that hasn't been run right through. Curiously, any and all mirrors have been taken. The fireplace has also been sealed away.

Whoever did this has gone through the entire common room and removed any means of communication with the outside world.

At least the roast was delicious at dinner.

Mamie sat on the floor, legs sprawled in front of her, wand out, and a feather in front of her. She wanted to practice her spellwork, as always, but hadn't wanted to go to the library after supper.

A little further from feather, she had a closed textbook sitting. Why? Obviously, it was her target. "Depulso," she whispered, pointing her wand at the feather and flicking it toward the textbook that she wanted the feather to land on. And...nothing. The feather didn't flutter from her speaking.

Her mother had shut her out again, she was so over it. She wanted her mother to comfort her like she should as a mother, but she kept just pushing her away, she kept telling her to straighten up and do her work. This was not her mother and she wasn't going to do work when she didn't feel like it.

Coming into the common room she wanted to just go to her room and hide in her bed but a feather stopped her. The feather was pretty and it looked like she was interrupting practice. "Sorry, I hope I didn't distract your focus." She hated when her focus was taken away and for Gemma is was easy to get distracted. The slightest wind blowing the leaves distracted her most days.

Minjae had been lying upside down on one of the couches near the sealed up fire place, his head touching the floor and his legs hanging over the couch while he watched Mamie practice her magic upside down. For a second, the seventh year thought about non-verbally pushing the feather so that it looked like the young Hufflepuff had done it but he decided against it. It was better for her to practice, practice and practice than give her a false sense of improvement. His brown eyes looked at Gemma as she entered the room and he vaguely wondered how her mother was. Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t really seen her snapping about this year.

He still hadn’t said anything, just wanted to observe the room for a moment. He was going to leave this common room after this year was over. If he managed to survive…sigh… He changed position as he couldn't take the rush of blood going to his head any long and now sat against the couch with his legs folded over each other.

Mamie looked up when Gemma entered, definitely distracted. She gave the slightly older girl a big, slightly exaggerated smile. "You did, but that's a-okay," she said, pulling her legs in to sit cross-legged so she was taking up less space. She didn't want to trip Gemma accidentally if she walked this way. "I'm practicing the banishing charm, if you want to join me!" Join me, code for help me learn this spell.

She startled at the movement in her periphery as Minjae sat up by the couch. She didn't realize he had been there. Had he been upside down? Everyone and everything seemed to be upside down lately. She let out a big sigh, then looked back to Gemma and back to her feather.

Yes, she had been sufficiently distracted that she didn't want to practice anymore. She set her wand down next to the feather.

"Can we use it to banish these idiots walking around the castle? I swear one stepped on me on purpose the other day." She really hated all the adults walking around, some of the professors as of lately. Professors made her think of her mother and that made her bite her lip though. Wanting to push her mother out of her mind she took a seat next to Mamie, "Sure, I can use some practicing."

Noticing the seventh year she gave him a smile, "Want to come over and join us? Maybe you could teach us some spell the professors certainly are afraid to teach this term." Maybe they could get older students to help them learn things to fight bac or at least break the curses it seemed the professors were under. Were they really just going to sit around and let things happen around here?

"Do you have another feather?"

Mamie didn't know if the banishing charm could work on people. She thought there was probably some other spell that could be used to get people to go away. If not, maybe they should make one. "Why would they step on you?" she asked quietly. She knew Gemma was not Muggleborn, because her mother was their teacher.

She quite liked the third year's idea to have Minjae teach them some new spells, but did not really think he would. Then again, a Hufflepuff study group sounded like an excellent idea. They could practice together in the relative safety of their own common room. By the block of wall formerly known as a fireplace, even.

Mamie did not have another feather, but she did have a solution. "If we sit across from each other, we can banish it back and forth," she suggested. Unless one of these older kids knew a duplicating charm. Did such a thing exist?

"Have you seen the way they treat my mum. They definitely don't like anyone no matter what." She really thought she was the only one that got annoyed by her mum, but these people really didn't seem to like her and that bothered Gemma. She could get annoyed but they couldn't. As she sat down she glanced at the seventh year to see if he would join, but decided if he wanted he would and she would get ready to practice.

When the mention of sitting across was offered Gemma took up the seat right in front of Mamie and pulled out her wand. "If we get this one down maybe we can try something bigger like a book." That could be fun or something else hanging around the common room like a chair or portrait. She always wanted to take care of the one end table she ran her toe into a few times a year. That could be on the list of things that needed to go.

Cassie had gotten to the Common room as quickly as possible once she knew what was going on. The children, no, these weren't just children, they were her children. Each of them, she hoped lessons they had learned would come in handy, because the real world and school was about to clash. Putting her wand up to her throat she made her voice be heard in both dorms and common rooms.

Students, you need to get down to this common room immediately. There is an emergency in the castle and I need you all accounted for. Grab your wands and nothing else. Get to the opening NOW!"

She would get them all moving to safety, but she needed them to hurry.

There had been a feeling like something was about to happen for a while now. Although, part of that could have just been due to the fact that things seemed rather unpredictable lately anyhow. Unpredictable and yet also predictable, which was what had led Gracelyn to her current demeanor of basically being quiet. Quiet was safer. Quiet was giving her time to come to terms with a lot of things, like her friends being locked up in the Room and limited as to their interactions. Like the people who had been poofed away to who knew where, hopefully not dead. It was hope that had kept her going, the small kernel of it inside her crystallizing into a diamond inside her. A star. Besides, there was always the hope that they wouldn’t be stuck there forever. Term was nearly over.

It was the sounds coming from outside that had triggered her into motion even before she had heard Professor Kitridge’s voice echoing through the Hufflepuff dorms, and she had made absolutely sure she had her wand at hand before she had nearly run down to the common room and the exit to the rest of the castle. “Professor? Is there anything I can do to help?,” she found herself asking once she’d arrived. Maybe helping to make sure nobody got left behind?

She was counting and giving directions as students were showing up, "First through fourth years you will follow me. Fifth through seventh I would rather you come with me too, but because of your age and abilities you can head out to defend the castle if you feel the need." Her eyes were very much showing worry as she noticed which ones would most likely pick fighting along with the adults. She herself needed to get out there and help as well, but she needed to get students to safety first.

Seeing a fifth year come up to her she took the young puffs arm, "You can decided which you want to do, head up to the safe room or head out to fight, but please be careful." She hated allowing any of them get in harms way, but she couldn't stop them either. The school was being attacked and they needed the help.

Seeing her daughter and Hope she pulled them both into a hug told them to get to the safe room and that she loved them both before counting the last of the puffs and heading out to help fight for the castle.
