Default DADA Lesson 1 - Hold It Right There

The first Defense lesson of the term takes place in classroom A1. If you've hit the music hall, you've gone too far.

Today, the classroom looks well put together--as most everything at Beauxbatons seems to be. Tidy walls, organized work sections, a neat pile of books on the Headmaster's desk. The points of interest today are the box shaped objects placed on each set of desks. The desks themselves are pushed together, housing 4 seats per group and each desk has its own box, covered by a magnificent length of light blue satin cloth...very obviously borrowed.

On the board, there is a sign asking you not to touch the boxes or the satin sheets. Kindly obey said instructions and we can begin the lesson amicably.

The wide windows to the left of the classroom allow the warm mid morning sun into the room. If you haven't already somehow managed to wake up in all this time, the bright light from the outside world should do the trick.

Headmaster Trent stands by his own desk, getting in some last minute reading and prep. Occasionally, he makes a scribble or two in the book he holds but he's present enough to return greetings and keep an eye out to ensure that one rule on the board is adhered to.

OOC: Welcome to the first DADA lesson of the term!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24-28 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet

"Good morning and welcome! For those of you who don't know, my name is Malachi Trent, your Headmaster--though I confess I do hope you know I'm the Headmaster even if you know nothing else." If not...that was concerning in itself. "As you can very clearly see, the door is locked. Be on time for class, or risk being on the wrong side of the door and having an unnecessary meeting with me after for skipping." Unnecessary because all they had to do to avoid it was be on time. It helped to start heading for the class before the expected time, just in case. There were any number of things that could always go wrong. Constant vigilance was a real thing.

"We'll be starting the term off with some light fun. Nothing dangerous, but practical all the same." Here's to looking at you kids who liked to freak out the moment the classroom looked a little darker than usual or a few creatures with slightly terrifying teeth and claws and massive sizes just happened to be present and chained to the walls.

Sheesh.

"For now, pay no attention to the covered boxes. We'll get to that in a bit. Let's start off with an easy question. One that won't require you to crack open your textbook but will require you to put some extra effort into thinking." Thinking and teenagers didn't always go hand in hand but he was willing to believe in them for the purpose of getting things started.

"What are some intuitive and effective ways to evade someone or something that's chasing you? What methods would you employ?" How would they handle it? And no, Dakest, running and or screaming was not the answer.

Freyr was struck with the question. He thought with all the things he would learn in this lesson, he would not have to run from any opponent. Sitting in his seat thinking about the question and trying to keep his mind from wondering more what was in the box, Freyr thought that he could combine those tricks he once saw in a Muggle spy movie with magic.

So he raised his hand and said "I would try to put the person or thing of its stride. I would disguise appropriately with the environment, if I cannot I would try to create sources somehow that will make sound from different directions so that the thing chasing me would not know which direction I went. If I know on which sense my pursuer rely on the most, I would try to create distraction aimed to that sense as much as possible."

Freyr felt like his answer was a workaround but he thought considering how little he knew, it was enough.

Had to admit, he didn't think so many of them would jump on the "run away and hide" wagon--especially not after the last term where many of them opted to run toward the source of danger. It had been a dark time for them all. These responses here almost gave him whiplash. Almost.

The man found it curious that none had opted for what he considered the most obvious answer...er....second most, behind running away with the optional screams as he was sure some where partial to. Very curious indeed but it meant the lesson would indeed be quite the surprise when he finally introduced it.

Oh well, maybe in the next class he could choose to sit down next to one of the guys in class. He didn't know that many very well so maybe he should take action and do something about that. After this class was over.

SPOILER!!: Headman Trent
]

Hearing Headmaster Trent's concerned question about his wellbeing made him remember the events of the previous night. Cole really wanted to forget the whole barfing episode, but he probably had to endure a few days of gleeful remarks from his peers still before something else became the talk of the halls. Looking up at the headman he nodded slowly. "Yes, headmaster Trent I feel much better today. Thank you for asking. Healer Beryl cured me fully of my ailment." He didn't want to say barfing. It'd just remind everyone else of his little spectacle and he didn't want that.

Soon enough thankfully Headmaster Trent closed the classroom door and got the lesson started asking them about effective ways or methods to employ if you we're being chased. Cole thought about his answer for a long while not wanting to be first. He eventually raised his hand though and said "If i was chased by a stranger then I'd find somewhere to hide from the stranger and then if they passed my hiding place then find help from someone in authority/security to aid me. Also a good way to shake someone off that is chasing you is running in circles and back and forth to make them loose track of you."

Malachi shot the Fourth Year a silent but cautionary glance when he proceeded to strike up conversation with his desk mates despite the lesson now beginning. He trusted the look would be enough of a "settle down, this isn't the time for idle chatter" but he'd become verbal if he needed to.

Still, the man was glad he was feeling better. No need to have any repeats of the previous night.

"I suppose depending on what or who's chasing you, that could be a viable option. You'd have to be certain whatever's chasing you doesn't have a keen sense of smell, however. If it did, I wouldn't count on it running past you and giving you the opportunity for a run around."

So far she hadn't found one yet. Not really. Maybe she'd ask Cora for help.

ANYWAY, moving on for now.

'For now, pay no attention to the covered boxes.'

Lol, very funny, Headmaster. Shivvy's eyes were still trained on said covered box and the urge to peek under the cloth became more and more unbearable by the second. But she couldn't. Or maybe she could? Just a tiny little...

No, she had to stay strong. She was strong.

Sort of.

Placing her wand in her lap for now, Siobhán tried to focus on the lesson and the professor's questions for some much needed distraction. "I'd hide, probably. Or run. Fast. Depends on what was chasing me. Or who." Pause. "I mean maybe it's someone or something nice that's chasing me. Then I wouldn't try to evade them at all..."

Let it be known, he didn't trust the innocent denial for even a second. Gryffindors had a knack for agreeing then running off to do exactly what you asked them not to do just seconds later. It was a special talent of theirs. He would know, he'd had his own days running around in the scarlet and gold.

Malachi blinked at her response--not the part about running because that seemed perfectly in line, but the other part. "I don't suppose if it was someone...nice or a creature that meant no harm, it would be chasing you to begin with. Especially not a person that could effectively communicate that they'd like to have words with you without exerting much energy."

So please, do run if you weren't going to do anything else. "Running can prove useful." As she'd said.

Mum's always asking me to be a good influence on my little brother, so I'm SUPER capable of being a role model." It was practically her JOB.

Did Cecelia feel really cool sitting with two older boys? Why yes, yes she did! It was EXTREMELY beneficial 'cause it meant she could learn from what they ALREADY knew and maybe even make some friends in the process, especially the one that was in her house. He probably had all KINDS of tips and tricks for her ALREADY and they were just WAITING to be uncovered! "Hi Alexandre, 'm Cecelia, but you can call me Cece if you want!" The blonde offered both boys a smile and then added, "You can call me Cece, too." To the original boy. The one who was a lion like her. She didn't know HIS name just yet, but she would.

You know what Cecelia liked? Easy questions. She liked hard ones, too, 'cause they made her THINK, but the easy ones meant she could offer the first thing that came to mind and there was a GOOD chance it wasn't going to come out sounding TOO silly. That's what she hoped, anyway. "Bet you could evade someone by going into a big crowd of people, 'specially if you're small like me. You could hide from them that way and give yourself more time to put distance between you and them."

"I bet you are." He readily agreed to precious bean #3's statement. He could see her trying out the whole big sister role and making at least attempts at the good role model gig. It was all that enthusiasm.

"Yes, you could. Blending in with your surroundings, in this case a crowd, could provide you with enough of an opportunity to slip away. Crowds are particularly hard to move through, especially when you're bigger. Only thing would be if whatever was chasing you was what we like to call a "crowd splitter". By that I mean, something so large or so terrifying that everyone immediately moves out of the way, thereby reducing that crowd cover you were depending on."

People tended to jump out of the way when something terrifying was approaching.

I’ve seen you in our broom closet of a common room.’’ There was disapproval in her voice for the way the Slytherins were housed. “I’m Claudine.” It was at that moment she realised that Trent was speaking to her. He what? Why was he cramping her style like that? Was he really trying to stamp on her creative moment like that? Some professor he was. Wasn’t there enough time for her to get her materials for the lesson out? Claudine said nothing but her eyes bored into Trent’s before she closed the sketch pad and returned it to her bag. Since her head was down, she rolled her eyes so that the no- fun Headmaster could not see. Adults. They didn’t know how to have fun.

The Snakette now had all her necessary materials for the lesson on the desk. Door shutting seemed to be what all the Professors did when the class was starting and frankly, she agreed with them. Stragglers hardly deserved to be there. Now, she fixed Trent with her serious gaze as she listened. Without thinking too much on the question, her hand went up. “Running.’’

Trent nodded after she put the sketchpad away. This was Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Not regular Art class. There would be plenty of time for that once she left the room but very limited time while they were all here. He intended to see it put to good use.

"Yes. Running is perhaps the most straightforward way of avoiding your pursuer--provided you're the faster. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommended it." Not when there were more reliable means of staying safe in the face of danger.

Maybe she'd ask her after class or something. Or was that too friendly without really knowing the girl?

She closed her book once Headmaster Trent started speaking. Why was everything suggesting running and hiding? This is Defense Against the Dark Arts, right? "We can use magic, right?" Oops. She had just blurted that out without thinking. She quickly put her hand in the air to recover. "I mean, running and hiding are all good measures to take but if you can throw in a few spells to stun the person or people you're running from than that's better... For example run away but look back to cast 'Stupefy' or 'Petrificus Totalus.' Sure it''ll be hard to hit the target while running but it's some defense."

"Very good point." And he was glad someone brought it up. "Running and hiding are good and fine but we are witches and wizards. We have magic at our disposal. When used correctly, it can be infinitely more useful than running." Sometimes, in tough situations, it was easy to forget that. When fight or flight kicked in, not everyone's first instinct was to pull their wands out.

"Stunning your pursuer can make all the difference in your get away."

With a chuckle, she said, “Hello to you too.” “I’m Naya......and who might you be?”

Ahh, but it was time for class to begin. Naya turned her attention to the Headmaster/Professor. The first assignment would be difficult. Pay no attention to the boxes. That was not easy for someone who was naturally curious. For now though, Naya tried to focus on the question that was being presented. How to evade someone or something chasing you. Well to her, the answer would depend on a number of factors. Was she being chased by a someone or a something? Someones could think, plan and change their plan based on your response. Somethings were all about catching their prey, no matter what. Was she a fourth year or a fully grown witch with lots of experience? Ok maybe she was overthinking things.

After giving the question a little more thought, Naya raised her hand. “Well if it happened to me today, I would probably try to hide. But......if I was a more accomplished witch, I would use a spell to conceal myself more effectively. Maybe I could use a spell that would make the chaser think he was seeing something other than me.”. Was that even a thing? Well if it wasn’t, it should be.

"That's an interesting way of going about it." Malachi admitted. Again, he was...intrigued by the fact no one have mentioned what he'd had in mind but this was actually another solution of the magical sort that could prove beneficial depending on its execution.

"I imagine you mean an illusion charm of sorts, something to change your appearance or the environment around you just enough to deceive whoever or whatever wants to get their hands on you." It could work.

As for his question, she couldn't help but raise one eyebrow and inhale deeply as lots of her classmates kept repeating 'running' and 'hiding'. Really? Hiding was okay, but how was just running going to evade a pursuer? Unless they had taken a stamina Potion that would keep them going for much longer than a normal person. "Knockback Jinx," was her short and sweet answer.

....Right.

Of course.

He supposed he'd expected that response. It would take some time for any of them to really be anything resembling "alright". Rather than pursue that any further, the Headmaster simply nodded at her latter response. "The knockback jinx could give you some additional time to put some distance between you and whoever, yes. Good." He wouldn't pry.

And if these eleven year olds were being attacked, it was far more likely they would be pursued by someone their own age, which, in that case, was a sound reason to get all kids trained in combat.

Durmstrang had the right of it.

Not like the French with all of their useless art programs.

The Toussaint had some other ideas about how to engage with an attacker, but that list did not feel relevant to this lesson.

"That would certainly put a quick and definitive end to things, yes." A practical answer from a practical boy. Malachi couldn't even pretend to be surprised that this was the answer Toussaint had come up with. It was decidedly rather fitting.

Lucas's thoughts about being his own group didn't last long because soon enough, he was joined by a talkative - and very energetic, mind you - first year (Cecelia). He....... wasn't prepared for this? What was he supposed to do if something terrible happened? Was he supposed to PROTECT her? Did this mean he had RESPONSIBILITY????

Oh Merlin. Oh no oh no.

He was NOT cut out for this.

But all thoughts about that drifted away once she started talking about what's in the box and how she thought it might be something cool. Uh. No. He wasn't breaking a first year's heart. He thought it was going to be something scary or, at the very least, disgusting. Whatever was on the agenda for today's lesson, breaking a first year's heart wasn't up there.

"I bet it is. I bet it's something extra exciting otherwise it wouldn't be hidden." He wasn't sure what he would say if Trent's plans for the lesson turned out to be something less than cool in the girl's opinion but his mouth was talking and his brain was....... not thinking. " OR, I bet it's something we have to solve, or defeat, together. As a team." She didn't have to know that he wasn't, uh, the best at this subject. That was all Emma.

Lucas was relieved when someone else joined their table, someone who turned out to be a familiar face. "Hey, Alexandre! Yeah, of course. Spot's all clear." Smile. Could he tell he was relieved? Because he was. Even if Alexandre was still younger than him and that still left him the oldest and definitely the most responsible.

He hadn't signed up for this.

Cece. Her name was Cece. "Welcome to Gryffindor! I'm Lucas." There was a smile for her, too. And one for Holly who'd walked on by.

Light fun?!

Lucas's attention found Trent when he started speaking and he...... stared. Light fun. Light fun. Was he supposed to believe that? He wasn't sure. That was the problem with Trent: the man was a mystery, even if he had a way of making you feel comfortable in even the most dangerous of situations. But it was a slight relief to hear that they wouldn't be doing anything dangerous. He was going to believe you on that, Trent.

How would he evade someone that was chasing him? Easy. Trent probably expected this answer and he was going to make sure he going to stick to that. The only problem? A lot of people had mentioned running and hiding, which meant that he probably couldn't say it, right? Yeah? But it also meant that his usual option for a situation like this was probably the best option. He hoped.

His hand went up in the air. "Well, I mean, running and hiding is an option, yeah?" His usual answer for everything. "If you had time," Which was a BIG IF. "could you use the Disillusionment Charm on yourself? You know, appear to almost disappear. Throw them off your track completely while hiding in plain sight?"

Consider him pleasantly surprised that Dakest's answer didn't end at the hiding part. It wasn't that he didn't think the boy had potential, but rather that he knew how he preferred to keep safe. No need to stand and cast when you could make a speedy get away otherwise unscathed.

"You could. Again, it would depend on what's chasing you and their special abilities. A dark wizard who suspects as much may cast a revealing charm while another may continue hopelessly looking. A creature with a superior sense of smell would be able to tell that you haven't really gone anywhere at all. It's important to always weigh the situation."

Know when what tactics would prove most useful. That sort of thing.

….. What ha- Oh. Whoops.

Looking slightly embarrassed, she made a ‘sorry’ face and mouthed ‘Hi, Headmaster back at him, not as loud as she would have spoken to him if she’d said it as she’d walked into the room - but loud enough that he should have been able to hear her. Especially since he’d been looking in her direction. Whoops. Where had her manners gone? Had they disappeared over Summer? >.> Apparently.

Looking at the two girls [Claudine & Gemma] as they mentioned their broom closet, she gave them both a smile. “Think about it this way, at least we don’t need to try and decipher the other languages to figure out if they are talking about us behind our backs.” Personally, Holly was glad to not be sharing. She’d have been incredibly paranoid before the year was out.

As others started to speak up first, she looked over at the two girls on her table as they both gave their responses. While running wasn’t something she’d like to say she’d do now that she was a bit older, three years ago it definitely would have been her answer. That, or get Cameron. That could even still be an option now.. However, she nodded almost to herself at the idea of stupefying or body-locking whoever was trying to chase you.

Her own hand raised as she continued that thought in her head. “Professor, continuing Gemma’s thread of thought, something to impede their movement like incarcerous or even a jelly-legs jinx? Anything that would stop them from chasing you.” She asked, lowering her own hand as she went back to taking notes from everyone’s suggestions.

And she was still looking at that covered box.

That was better. Malachi nodded his return greeting to the young Slytherin, not dwelling on it for too long. Mistakes happened and Tamesis wasn't one of the problem children by any means.

"Excellent. Yes." This drifted close to what he himself had in mind for this lesson. "Preventing--stopping as it were--your pursuers is one of the most successful ways to end a pursuit." But that went without saying. If they stopped then they were no longer a threat to you. "Good one."

What she would give for it to be summer again. She was glad to be back learning magic, but she was a bit uncomfortable in her new surroundings. Not to mention the fact that she was already immensely sleep deprived.

She gave Analiese a friendly wave. "Hey Analiese!" she said, stifling a yawn. Adjusting to her sleeping arrangements in the Ombrelune Common Room was probably the most difficult part of coming to Beauxbatons so far. She had gotten quite used to her accommodations at Hogwarts, and it was always odd to be in new surroundings. The unfamiliarity was definitely taking a toll on her energy level.

Avalon's head snapped up as soon as Headmaster Trent slammed the classroom door. She knew that was how he signaled the beginning of the lesson, but the noise startled her nonetheless. She supposed that she would have to catch up with Analiese and get to know Alex more after class. At least the Headmaster was starting out with a relatively simple question. The second year raised her hand. "I would just want to be faster than whatever it was that was chasing me. So if the person running after me was on foot, I would try to find a way to fly or speed up somehow." But how likely was it that she would be able to find a broom mid-chase? Perhaps she could use some sort of acceleration charm. But she didn't know any yet. "I also agree that stunning the chaser could be helpful." Not that she knew any stunning spells yet, either.

"There's a muggle joke that goes along those lines." It came to his mind the moment she mentioned being faster than whatever may have been chasing her. Did Sinclair know the joke? It was quite a good chuckle if she didn't. Perhaps he'd tell it to her later. For now, it was defense class.

"Stunning would prove effective, yes. It would certainly make the get away easier."

Never mind. That idea was way too stupid to be true. She was way too much of an overthinker.

Throwing things was another he hadn't been expecting.

"I...suppose....yes. If it was heavy enough to harm or otherwise hinder them." It would have to be something of a notable size to be sure. Which led him to believe she'd have to use magic to hurl it, but if she was willing to use magic to do that, she could've used it to do something a bit more reliable.

Something to think about.

Or maybe it was just her attention span and wanting to explore it all. Vast contrast to a month ago when she was legitimately freaking out going to a new castle. But have you SEEN the French and Spanish boys?!? Seriously, it was as if they'd been artistically crafted as much as the tapestries on the wall.

Carsyn paid no mind to the Headmaster's introduction because she was well aware of who he was and what he taught. Her mind and gaze did wander to the covered boxes because of course. Listen, you tell someone to NOT pay attention to something, it's a natural human reflex to want to pay attention to it. It wasn't her fault. Her attention did snap back to the Headmaster when mentioned an easy question, to which most people seemed to suggest hiding.

Interesting and yet ... Carsyn raised her hand, "Hiding would be expected. Wouldn't you want to go for the unexpected? What I mean is that perhaps coming to a halt quite suddenly. Take quick turns. Summon a broom. Turn around and cast them with a stunning charm to slow them down or a tripping jinx." Okay, that was a lot of thoughts, but offensive tactics to employ seemed plausible.

That sounded like quite a convoluted way of evading someone or something but the man imagined she was going on the basis of someone tremendously difficult to avoid. "Tripping or otherwise stunning may be all you need depending on what's chasing you, followed up by the broom for a speedy escape or apparition as Toussaint mentioned, should you be of age." Adding quick stops and sharp turns then became less of a necessity...so long as the stuns were done right.

He didn't really expect that someone to be Alessandro, not without Kodee or Gunnar or someone like that already present too. But Alessandro it was, and he received a brief glance for his trouble. Kaiser could also appreciate silence.

He also just about caught the nod from fellow Slytherin, Holly, who was a few years below him, and returned it only slightly distractedly.

The slamming of the classroom door to indicate the start of class was something Kaiser was, by now, extremely used to. Though he absolutely detested being locked inside a room, he knew better than to show that particular weakness. Kaiser didn't even bother looking towards the door, instead focusing his attention on Trent again.

Okay, well, see? SEE? Questions like that were exactly the reason Kaiser tended to do well in this subject. It was just the sort of stuff he knew. Not that he'd, you know, lived certain aspects of it or anything. No, certainly not.

His hand went up. "I would..." Ah... well, yes, he had to be careful here. It wouldn't do to give his methods away to everyone in the room, would it? Just in case. "... climb." He left it at that.

In the context of fleeing a pursuer, giving this information away to Trent wasn't such a big deal. However, if the man realised one of his students had a propensity for climbing, and scaled school buildings on a sometimes daily (or nightly) basis, that... might not have such a good outcome, even if it wasn't technically against any rules (Kaiser didn't actually know if it was or not, he deliberately hadn't looked into it). Trent might even already know - Kodee knew, and that boy certainly had a way of talking without thinking to anyone who crossed his path, so was it really such a stretch to think the topic might have come up with the Headmaster one day? Kaiser would rather not risk it.

Anyway, he didn't need Trent to tell him if his answer was correct or not. He knew. He knew it worked. You just had to be good at it.

"Good." He would be there. They could figure things out together and find a way to make it work. If they were quick enough, the boy wouldn't even have to be held back. How had it been missed before??

Wait what?

Malachi was still semi spiralling over the boy's future when he heard him say something about...climbing. "That we'll need to have a word about as well." He'd heard things, things he wasn't willing to believe and honestly had half wished he'd never known just so he could get away with plausible deniability. Remedial lessons with Chosen made it hard for the man to plead plausible deniability with a LOT of things.

The kid was getting better at it but, on an off day, forget it.

Or... well, perhaps she would just turn around and study in the library rather than face his wrath.

The question led immediately to the thought of hiding, finding someplace to squeeze into whilst the thing chasing her headed on, or disguise herself as something else. Something bigger and bullier. But they were already being spoken about by most of the class. What else would she do? Raising her hand she said "Professor perhaps if I were older and had a Phoenix I could summon it to come to me and then we could both disappear." Abra loved animals, and really wanted a Phoenix. But also, having a companion with her would be comforting.

This one gave him pause and caused his brows to furry slightly. "Well....yes you could....but what would you do while you waited for your phoenix to get there? Depending on distance and other factors, you'd still very much be at the mercy of whatever was chasing you." And if the phoenix took too long there was no guarantee of a happy ending.

Not something he wanted to think about. He'd lost enough students to last him a lifetime, thanks.

"What you're describing closely resembles what some of your classmates have mentioned. Illusion charms or disillusionment charms are both good ways to blend in with the surroundings or at the very least make it difficult for you to be spotted...depending on the sense most heavily relied upon as you've mentioned." If properly executed, it was very much a plausible solution.

"Very good, everyone. As you've all mentioned, there are many ways you can evade someone who is chasing you. Charms to blend in, removing yourself entirely, slowing or stopping whatever it is, running and hiding as well." Some were likely to be more effective than others but he trusted they'd gotten as much from the small discussion just now.

"Today, we'll be looking into one of these methods, specifically into slowing down or stopping your pursuer. I've heard the knockback jinx, incarcerous and others but today we'll be looking at the stickfast hex "colloshoo". For those of you who don't know, this spell will cause your opponent's feet to become stuck to the ground or whatever other surface they happen to be standing on. Many think to use it offensively in duels, however not many stop to focus on it's defensive qualities. In a pinch, it can put a real stopper on the other guy."

Hexes weren't just for when you were hammering spells to overwhelm and win.

"An advantage is it's simplicity. We all know that the more difficult a spell, the harder it is to cast and the more power and concentration it requires. Make no mistake, you still need these for this spell to work and the more you put in, the more effective it will be, but on its own, the spell is not such a difficult one to pull for in a pinch. Note, however, that there are other, better spells depending on the size and strength of your opponents. You wouldn't use this spell on...say...a nundu." No, he fully expected them to get the fudge out of dodge under those circumstances. "It's a safer bet on people and smaller things once done correctly." He couldn't stress that enough. In the curriculum, they were required to learn a prescribed list of spells. It didn't mean that they all worked in all situations or that they were equal. It was crucial that they learned to categorize them.

"Today, we'll get some practice in on it. You may remove your cloths." Once they did, they would find....BUNNIES! 6 Bunnies per box, a different colour for each table. "Everyone up." He waited for them to do as they were told before vanishing their seats. With each cage levitated, he then vanished the desks. All around them slides, steps, swings, ladders, little holes in the wall that had intricate chasms, they all appeared. It somewhat resembled an obstacle course however they would not be running it. "When I release these rabbits, you'll have to work together to catch them and put them back in your group's cage. They're faster and slipperier than you'd think. Try to stick them in place long enough to get your hands on them." Sounded easy enough, yeah?

Just to be on the safe side, he demonstrated the wand movement a few times and repeated the incantation. "Give it a go. Only the rabbits with the colour of your table."

And with that, each cage was opened and all the rabbits burst free in swarms, sprinting about until all the colours mixed in a swirl of chaos and fluffiness.

OOC: Welcome to the mini activity everyone! In your groups, you'll have to chase down the rabbits that belong to your group and get them back into their cages. You may delegate as you please within the group or jump right in. These rabbits have been charmed to be super fast so it wouldn't be unusual for a few spells to miss or go astray (whoops). You'll have until Tuesday morning (about 48 hours from now) before I post up the second question and you don't have to wait for me to post the rabbits. Those are all yours to control and get into funny little messes or ace as you please. Get creative and have fun! ^^

Stickfast hex??

Cole looked from Carys to Carsyn and back wondering if they had ever heard of or used the spell the headmaster introduced to them. He knew he hadn't It was a spell that when cast slowed or stopped your intended target. Moments later they we're allowed to pull away the cloth from the boxes and look into them and when Cole saw what was in there he paused to just stare down at the fluffy furred creatures. There we're 6 bunnies with purple bows in the box in front of him. The purpose of the activity that the headman instructed them on was to use the new hex to catch all the bunnies back in their box and he was on team with Carys and Carsyn. He instinctively had the feeling that the bunnies wouldn't make this light work for them.

After the bunnies chased away across the room he turned to his cousins as he pulled out his wand. "So what's our plan? Shall we together try and catch one purple bowed bunny at a time? Or split up? I don't know how fast these bunnies are, but it will be hard to single them out from the others." Taking a firm grip on his wand Cole started jog slowly forwards, spotting a purple bunny not far from him he aimed and cast firmly and loudly. "Colloshoo!" Assuming Carys and Carsyn we're right behind him.

Freyr looked around himself, there were bunnies everywhere, it was like a liquid rainbow. The floor was covered with hyperactive bunnies. He stood up, looked at his deskmates and said "I wouldn't say no to help." Then Freyr started pointing his wand toward any green rabbit he saw and saying "Colloshoo". He wondered if anybody would like to team up. He thought "It would only double the fun" and continued shouting "colloshoo", hoping he would not hit anyone.

After fifteen minutes of missing or accidentally, hitting people instead of rabbits (Freyr was not sure about this because there were 4 more wands pointed at the spot), he, more precisely, he believed it was him, was able to hit only one rabbit with his spell but he felt like he started to get the hang of it. Then he shouted "colloshoo" again, and there it was. Another green rabbit stuck in the floor. Freyr smiled proudly and looked for another green rabbit. He wondered if his classmates were having fun as much as he did.

Rylee smiled warmly as both Dorian and Stella joined her at her table. Hearing Dorian's mention of her kneazle, Cosmos, she sighed softly shaking her head. "Unfortunately I didn't but it's perfectly alright. Reese took him along to Norway with him for the term and Lamb remained at home with Saros." So both felines would be incredibly well cared for. Merlin knew how much she already missed them but knowing they were likely having the best time where they were made things a little easier.

There wasn't much time to really be talking as the lesson started. Rather than raise her hand and give an answer, Rylee opted to take down some notes instead. A lot of good answers had been said... however in her opinion, there was a lot that mattered in a situation like that. Who was chasing her, why were they chasing her, where was this happening and when, time of day and seasons could affect things as well. So much had to be taken into consideration. However getting out of the situation all together was a really good option in her mind... as was slowing the person/creature down.

Colloshoo, hmm? The stickfast hex.

While this was one she already knew how to cast, it wasn't one she used all that often outside of practice duels. Rising to her as Headmaster Trent made their tables and chairs disappear, Rylee's eyes trained on the Light Blue bunnies in her groups cage. They were soooooo cuuuuute! Refraining from squealing in delight at the overload of bunny cuteness, Rylee swung her gaze slowly around the room.

Merlin help them! A mix of rainbow bunnies darted and hopped about all around. Disappearing into holes and frolicking about on slides and swings, these bunnies were everywhere! There was simply noway she could keep track of them... not even just the six bunnies that belonged to her group.

Rylee sucked in a slow breath and removed her wand from it's holster. She turned towards Dorian and Stella. "What if we worked together... one or two of us working on spell at a time while the others capture the bunny that sticks to the floor? Then we can switch and let someone else try the spell and another person capture a bunny?" That was they all were working on the spell and team work was being used.

SPOILER!!: replies for the first part/start of the class

More and more students came in as the time pass before the class starts. The more that it does that, the more that you can hear students run or fast walk on the halls to their designated classes. Suddenly a student sat beside her (SweetPeea), not that it was surprising, it's more of the way she sat down. Maybe just like everyone else, she's just trying to keep track of the time to be in class and not get late. "Hi Faye" she smiled at the younger student. "Yes, you can sit with me" the seats are getting more and more occupied.

After a few minutes, the professor has closed the door and started the lesson. Jillian sat up straight and took out most of her writing materials, you know, just in case. First questions are usually basic knowledge, the professors are usually trying to test your knowledge on how much you know about it.

What are some intuitive and effective ways to evade someone or something that's chasing you?

For now the question felt easy (just as he said it would be), something that most of the students can relate to and answer with a blink of an eye. Raising her hand she answered "Expelliarmus is a good spell if someone is chasing you.... other than running that is" the spell does seem fitting.

Colloshoo. or the stickfast hex.
Sounds fun. Ohhhh, does this mean they get to do this to each other? No?

Perhaps not.

She took the cloth upon advise and found 6 adorable bunnies inside the box. She would be lying this didn't make her smile. Bunnies are cute, okay? She placed her bag onto her chair and stood up just like the headmaster said. Her eyes still glued onto the rabbit, cautious not to let them jump out of the box. Imagine if that were to happen then everyone else will be having a swell time catching their bunnies... then again, that's what the spell is for today.

The classroom is now turned into an obstacle. The desks and chairs just started vanishing and all these ladders and whatnot started to appear. Whoah... Plus they also have to chase the bunnies, catch them and have them put back on their cage. Seems like an easy task to do but the headmaster did specify that these bunnies will be really fast and slippery.

Jillian stood on the side just like everyone else, taking her wand out and looking at the bunnies. Welp.

SPOILER!!: Gemma, Holly and a Trent mention!
Claudine nodded to Gemma. “I couldn’t agree more,’’ she said quietly. “Beauxbatons is nice and all but I really wanted to see Hogwarts. I hope we can for the new school year.’’ She would be heavy with disappointment if that did not happen. Oh? Someone had overheard hers and Gemma’s conversation? Claudine looked over and saw that it was one of the older Snakes. The words from the other girl only made the first-year consider. Slowly, she nodded. “I reckon you’re right. But that doesn’t mean that the Headmaster and Head of House couldn’t have tried harder for us to have better accommodations.’’ No, she didn’t care if Trent heard her.

The Snakette was slightly surprised by just how many of her classmates had thought that running would be most efficient. Of course, there were those who suggested fights. Since this was DADA, it made perfect sense that Trent focus on some sort of spellwork. This spell was one that she knew about. Still, she made a note of it and what the said spell was capable of doing.

When they were given the go ahead, Claudine reached out to pull away the cloth to see... cute rabbits. She stared at them, but her gaze wasn’t the usual intense one. Her gaze was unusually soft and warm. What now? They had to stand up? With an eyebrow slightly raised as Gemma, she did so. One second their seats were there, then in another, it was gone. So were the desks. Instead, there was what looked like an obstacle course. Then came the explanation. That’s all they had to do? Claudine thought she could manage that. She looked to Gemma. “Pink bunnies, remember.’’ It was their colour.

“Colloshoo.’’ Claudine’s wand was out and aimed at a bunny hopping up a step.

Cecelia couldn't even IMAGINE how terrible it would be to be stuck to one spot for TOO long because she liked to move and SEE stuff and DO things and she couldn't if she was STUCK. Still, she definitely saw how knowing a spell like THAT could come in handy, and she quickly scribbled down the incantation AND wand movement so she wouldn't forget. Only THEN she was hurrying to be the one to remove the cloth from over the box on the table and....LOOK AT THOSE LITTLE ORANGE BUNNIES!

*__*

AWWWWW!

"I knew, knew, knew it'd be something cool!" She'd said so and EVERYTHING, did they know? She was up and wiggling with excitement as soon as they were allowed, gaze shifting from the professor, to the bunnies, to her table mates. They could SO get all their bunnies back in the cage faster than the others!

"We should take turns casting and retrieving! Like-Well, we should call out when we've got one of our bunnies stuck, so another one of us can go get it and bring it back to the cage!" She was PRETTY quick, so she was definitely up for cuddling catching ALL the fluffy orange cotton tailed cuties for her team, she was.

"Oh!" And they were off! Blue eyes widened considerably as Cecelia realized just how MANY bunnies there now were running around in a rush of rainbow fur. She couldn't help but think of how much Aunt Sophie would LOVE this. So much color! Made it kinda hard to know WHERE to aim, though.

....WHAT was the incantation again?

There, now. See? Of course that would happen. Of course it would.

Kaiser nodded, trying to look innocent, but not so much that he automatically ended up looking the total opposite. "Okay, sir," he said, deciding to leave all the deny-deny-denying until he met with Trent later. Kaiser? Climbing? Never.

Anyway, now was lesson time, and lesson time meant finding out what was under those cloths at last. Kaiser had totally ignored the mysterious objects so far, knowing that it wouldn't be long until they got to see what was inside, but, at the word, he removed the cloth from the box.

Rabbits. Several white rabbits. Huh. Okay, then.

At Trent's instruction, Kaiser got to his feet, and within moments, all of the rabbits were free. It was bundemonium pandemonium. Drawing his wand, Kaiser quickly pointed it at the closest white rabbit to him, and fired off the spell. "Colloshoo."

Missed. Of course. Why on earth would he hit it first try?

The creature scampered off, hopping away and slipping into one of the holes in the wall. Kaiser squinted after it, then scanned the room looking for one of the other bunnies that had been inside the box at his table.

Didn't matter, he'd said the list was non-exhaustive.

Trent lowered his book further when she plopped it atop his books. Right...... Very casually, Malachi moved the apple from atop his books to its own spot atop his desk. "Thank you....Gryffindor." Don't worry, he'd get the names soon enough. More importantly. "How did you manage to get hold of any sugar with the breakfast we had?" Serious question. She was on something. He wouldn't believe otherwise.

At the stroke of twelve, Malachi drew his wand and the door slammed shut as it always did before he began his lessons. The returning students, at the very least, would not be surprised by the gesture. It was what happened. It was what being late got you.

Sugar? Hehe. Was the Head Professorman referring to her apple, or Bernadette's bright and shiny spirit? "I always come to school prepared," she answered honestly, her thoughts now drifting to the stack of candy tucked away in her trunk upstairs. Not to mention the cookies she'd baked at home and brought along, and the natural sources of sugar in everything from ketchup to milk... but she wasn't going to tell him that! In case sugar was illegal here in France... instead, she made a mental note to bring him some of her homemade cookies. He might like them.

But, back to class. The professor had asked the first question, and just as she put her hand up to answer, someone else stole her idea. Hmmph. Bernadette would have to be faster next time. She slowly lowered her hand with narrowed eyes, now looking suspiciously around her.

Obviously she'd run away and hide from the person hunting her. She was small and could fit into a lot of dark places...

A spell a spell! They were learning a spell! Bernie hurriedly pulled her wand out of her sock, excited as she was to play with COLORFUL RABBITS and all. Now, who else was in her group, and how did they do the spell?

Phoebe gave the Headmaster a skeptical look. "I don't know proper disguise and stealth yet, sir. I only know how to rock a mustache right now." She looked pretty good in one of those ones that curled at the ends.

She turned her attention to the pink bunnies. Cushion-friend was chasing down one, and Phoebe hopped a short wall to chase down another. They were wickedly fast, weren't they? What did that sort of magic, and was it easy to apply to other creatures? Or to little sisters? Imagine Kizzy with a rocket pack. The bunny raced up a slope, and Phoebe pointed her wand at the bunny. "Achoo. Sticky bunbun.."

Nothing, and the bunny disappeared over the other side. So much for mastering her first spell.

Hearing Trent's response only made Lucas realise that there was a lot that he didn't think about, which was weird because he was always thinking. But revealing charms? Creatures and their sense of smell? His mouth formed into a small 'o' and he nodded very slowly. He hadn't thought of any of THAT.

The Stickfast Hex?! Yeah, that was not a spell he would’ve thought of. Not if he was in danger and trying to get away. Maybe Protego or something else that was likely to protect him, not stopping the attacker. But then again, magic was something he was sure he’d have to be reminded to use when he was in a situation like that. It was just...... him.

All thoughts about that left his brain the minute they were told to remove the cloths - which he did. And the reveal? Yeah, consider him surprised. Bunnies? They were working with BUNNIES?! Cute bunnies, too! It almost made Lucas feel a little uncomfortable to realise just how wrong his thoughts about this lesson had been. Because there’s no way this could end up being a BAD lesson. Not when they were working with such cute creatures.

Standing up, he was itching for a chance to start petting the bright orange bunny before him but Trent had other ideas. And, for once, Lucas liked his idea, just like he liked seeing how excited Cece was getting about this. So bunnies counted as a cool animal? Noted.

She had good ideas as well, something that surprised the fourth year. And since he didn’t have any better plans...... "Okay. We could split up? Do you want to run after the bunnies and collect them up? Chase after them? Like a........" Pause. "....... Chaser?"

..........

..................

If he could facepalm without Cece and Alexandre noticing, he would.

"What do you think, Alexandre?" Please don’t put him on the side of running. He was sure he was not fit for that part at-

Oh. His eyes found a young Gryffindor (Bernadette) not too far away and, before he could stop himself, he started motioning her over. This was going to be a nightmare. He knew it. He was going to regret putting himself in a responsible role before the lesson was over.

Gemma understood where the older girl was coming from but to be stuck in a damp brook closet was not on her top life moments. Hogwarts had been her dream school for years and starting off in France was a bit of a let down.

Bunnies! Gemma was excited to see the cute little creatures once the sheet was pulled off. The first-year stood up when promoted, catching Claudine's eye and the look she gave her. Then everything disappeared and was replaced with an obstacle course... Bunny racing? Was the first thing she thought of. Then everything was explained.

She nodded at Claudine's comment of what color they had. Gemma watched as both her and Phoebe tried and failed to catch their first bunny. This was going to be a lot harder than they all planned.

Gemma shot a glance at Holly, hoping the older girl might be of more help to them. But looking around the room it seemed everyone was struggling. Wand in hand Gemma set off in search of a pink bunny, finally spotting one climbing a ladder. Carefully, Gemma inched closer to the rabbit getting as close as she dared without spooking it.

“Colloshoo.’’ Gemma closed her eyes as she cast the spelling, giving a silent prayer that it hit. Did it work?

Normally, Trinetta would be jumping no pun intended at the opportunity to do some hands on practice, but something concerned her. She bit her lip and raised her hand as the rest of the class started to get to work.

"Professor, won't the spell hurt them? I mean, I feel like...if I were running, and suddenly my foot stuck to the ground, the sudden abrupt change in your momentum as you're running might really hurt your ankle. Break it even. Rabbits have even more powerful feet than WE do, and I'm just...hesitant," she admitted, biting her lip.

Why was she so worried about the rabbits? She wasn't quite sure to be honest, but she remembered when they'd had a rabbit growing up, and Jimmy had told her to be careful holding them, because they could kick so hard they could actually break their back. It just seemed like an accident waiting to happen, and the Ravenclaw couldn't bring herself to start JUST yet without hearing from the Headmaster that it would all be ok...

Finally they could touch! Alexandre started reaching toward the cloth and the box excitedly as soon as the Headmaster said they could touch it. His other teammates were there too, and revealing the box filled with bunnies. And orange ones at that. They were so cute!! Alexandre couldn't help but think of what had been said at the opening feast about how all cats had to be kept in the barn (or in cages? He didn't remember the specifics because, as he didn't have a cat, he hadn't been playing all that close attention) because their claws would scratch the furniture. He wondered how the Headmistress of Beauxbatons would feel about a classroom filled with bunnies. But it just showed that Hogwarts was more fun because they weren't so stuck up about things like that.

Anyway. Alexandre started nodding at Cece's plan except... he didn't fully understand what she had proposed. He'd started nodding before it had fully processed in his brain. "So like... some people stick them and some people collect them?" Was that it? That was fine with him. "And then we could switch jobs so everyone gets a chance to practice the spell." Oh, were they going to have another teammate? That would be perfect because then they would have four so they could split up evenly into two stickers and two fetchers.

"Okay, Cece, should you and I be the ones to fetch the bunnies first? Lucas, you can stick them?" And the other girl too, if she was joining them. "And once we've got half of them we'll switch." See how he had split them into one older and one younger on each job? It made him feel important being the older one on his side.

Kaiser was doing less spell-casting, and more rabbit stalking. He was, as it happened, a very stealthy individual. Not that that was even remotely helpful in this activity. Sure, the thundering pattering of dozens of frantic, multicoloured bunny feet was a great cover, but there was simply no point in sneaking.

Also? There was so much going on down at foot-level that Kaiser was genuinely worried he was going to trip and fall and break either 1. a rabbit, or 2. his neck. Actually physically moving around the classroom wasn't very practical.

So he didn't go far. Just sort of side-stepped slightly and craned his neck so he could see around some of the obstacles that had appeared. Luckily, white rabbits were the easiest ones to spot amidst all the chaos, and Kaiser had definitely seen them scampering about here and there, but he was looking specifically for one that was a little less... you know. Like That™.

Eventually, he got his wish. Whether it was tired or bored or just slowing down to enjoy the scenery, Kaiser spotted one of the white rabbits loping leisurely along the perimeter of the room, making itself an easy target. Yes, he realised that this defeated the purpose of Trent's activity in trying to cast the spell on a fast, slippery adversary, but he hadn't said that they couldn't wait until they had a slightly easier target. He was being resourceful. This technique probably wouldn't help Kaiser in ~the real world~, but at least it would get him through the class activity.

Quickly, before the rabbit could catch on and hop off again, Kaiser raised his wand and aimed. "Colloshoo."

Yes! He'd got it, and the little white rabbit was stuck fast. Kaiser manoeuvred carefully through the classroom towards it, but paused just as he was about to lift it off of the ground. How was he supposed to...? Was there a counter-spell or-...

Oh, wait. Duh. Tired brain was not good brain.

"Finite."

After he'd freed the rabbit, Kaiser scooped it up and cradled it carefully in his arms, and headed back towards his group's cage. He deposited the animal safely inside, and turned to face the room once again. Was it too much to hope that another one of theirs would tire out soon?

Probably.

He gave the fourth little bean (Fifi) a skeptical sort of look. "No further worries there. You've officially begun your defense education and it does cover stealth at some points."

It was insane, the idea of her dawning any old mustache and hoping for the best. Such a good thing he'd caught her early.

Oh? Malachi turned to Ravenclaw, his skepticism from the Gryffindor remaining in place but now tinged with a look of curiosity. Hesitant? Hurting the rabbits?

"I'm not certain I'm following, Gladin. We've never used real creatures in Defense class." Ever. For the obvious reason that they were meant to be casting and (if they had been real) very much hurting whatever happened to be in the class that day. Large creatures with snapping jaws. Trolls. Hinkypunks. Rabbits. It didn't matter. He'd never bring live things in for the simple fact that many of his students concerned him for one reason or another. "That hasn't changed. They're not real and can't be harmed no matter what you do."

To demonstrate, he pulled one of the remaining rocks from his pocket and turned it into a neon green rabbit.

See? It was as easy as that, and a safer bet than presenting them with real rabbits.

In the mist of taking notes, Stella really didn't havr time to raise her hand to answer Headmaster Trent's question, instead she nodded her head in agreement to some of her fellow classmates older and younger. Although Stella would study the person figure out their weaknesses, who they were and why they were chasing her, it was easy to take down a person if you knew their weaknesses. Although she had to agree on throwing Stupefy and stuff at them, but that was if they had a good aim while running, which in her case was highly unlikely. But maybe the blasting curse would work to temporarily get away. Whew...there finally done with her notes at last.

Stella's sky blue eyes settled on the bunnies in front of them, there were so many of them! Holding back a squeal at how cute they were she gotten out her wand. Looking at the light blue bunnies, she looked at Rylee and nodded. "Good idea, it'll go by faster that way, I'll capture the bunnies!" Putting her wand back in its holster fof now, she had some bunny catching to do.

Nettie nodded. "I know that, but...still, I imagine even fake rabbits could have hurt themselves...acted like they were hurt...that just seemed unsettling to me is all" she muttered, blushing a little and trailing off. Plus, they were SUPER realistic animals and could easily mimic the signs of being injured. She still wasn't sure why that was making her so...uneasy, but Trent's answer had helped her feel a bit better. He hadn't really touched on her worry about a REAL person nearly breaking an ankle due to the spell, but she figured if someone was chasing you and they broke their ankle, well...maybe that wasn't all that bad, if they were trying to cause you harm.

Turning back to her desk, she picked up her wand and looked around for the light blue bunnies from her table. Her group had already started to work on them, and the rest of them had taken off since she started with her question, so first things first, she had to FIND one.

She looked around, getting on her hands and knees and looking for all the light blue rabbits as they bounced around. It was like an Easter parade in here...so many bunnies in all sorts of pastel colors, it was hard to keep track of all of them as they kept taking off.

OH! There was a light blue one! She pointed at it in excitement and yelled "Colloshoo!" which only managed to scare all the other rabbits around them, but caused the light blue one to take off in the opposite direction. SIGH.

"Hey, yeah! JUST like a chaser!" Cecelia nodded eagerly, PLEASED that Lucas seemed to get what she was talking about. She very much liked being understood, 'specially because SOMETIMES her thoughts were ALL over the place and when she finally tried to piece all of them together, they didn't quite fit. THEN Alexandre was clarifying ALL the things Cece was thinking and she nodded even MORE, smiling. "I like that plan. Taking turns is IMPORTANT 'cause we want to make sure Headmaster Trent knows we're ALL super good at the spell." Even though SHE wasn't even sure she could DO it yet. Speaking of that, "Fetching first sounds good to me! I'm not sure I could stick anything just yet. Look!" She pointed her wand at her feet and her brow creased. "cullashoo!" Her feet didn't FEEL stuck and when she slooowly lifted the left one, it came off the floor no problem. The blonde shrugged and looked at the others as if to say SEE and then shrugged again. FETCHING first, it was!

"Hey, YOU can help Lucas try to stick some bunnies first," She announced to Bernadette who was also a Gryffindor who she'd seen sorted and EVERYTHING.

"Oh, there goes an orange bunny NOW! Aim at that one! QUICK!" Meanwhile, cecelia creeept towards the bunny, trying to be stealthy.

Default white rabbites - 2 bunnies captured
Who Am I? Ern's 2460FUN

Bunnies.

Alessandro quirked a little smile. He knew it was a weird skill, but he was good at catching bunnies. The garden at his house was riddled with them and, as a child, he would hun-pursued them. It was a fun little game he used play, much to the dismay of his cousin, Leecey. But he had never expected the strange, childhood game to ever become relevant in any official way.

As the parameters were established, Al thought the spell casting was, frankly, a hindrance. He had a more straightforward way to capture bunnies. However, this wasn't his lesson. So, he did as he was told.

Alessandro quickly practiced the wand flourish, getting the feeling in his wrist, moments before the bunnies were released. Then, he was at it with the rest of his peers. He didn't mind Kaiser or his other table mate. They could collect bunnies as a group, but they did not have to strictly work together.

He did not lurch after the bunnies. He waited. And waited. And waited, some more, as kids flew every which way around the room. Al was waiting and keeping his eye out for the weakest, most terrified animal. There was always one.

And he spotted it, crouching in the corner, shaking. Al moved slowly across the room, taking measured steps, as the little white bunny's chest rose and fell erratically, eyes skirting across the room. It seemed overwhelmed and distracted. Good. Alessandro silently raised his wand and whispered, "Colloshoo." The bunny noticed too late, and desperately jerked around, trying to free itself.

Al grabbed it by the fur and released it from the floor. He deposited it into the cage and went back to prowling the room for more bunnies.

Default Gemma, Phoebe & Trent! ^_^
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

The second girl who had been sitting with her and Gemma was saying the spell all wrong. Had Claudine been the type who laughed easily, she would have done just that. As it was, she sought to help her fellow first year. “Colloshoo,’’ she said softly in correction. “It does sound horribly like a sneeze,’’ was added as an afterthought. To both girls, she asked, “What about if we all work on the same bunny at the same time? Two of us attempt to stick the bunny and the other grab it if neither of the spells work? Of course we shouldn’t try to hit the bunny at the same time in case the spell’s too much for it.” It was just a plan but if either of them had something better, she was willing to listen.

Unfortunately for Claudine, her first spell had completely missed the rabbit she had been aiming for. The little creatures were so fast that she was sure the Headmaster had purposely done something to increase the speed of the not-so-real-bunnies. Speaking of him… “Does the group who’ve captured all of their bunnies get a prize, Headmaster?’’

Oh, there was a pink bunny. Claudine aimed her wand as it hopped, hopped, hopped. “Colloshoo.’’ It was a neat miss. “Colloshoo.” Another miss. “Colloshoo.’’ This time, the pink bunny stuck in place. “Quickly, someone grab it.’’ She was a bit further from it and didn’t trust her spell work to hold for long.

Gemma missed. Rats. These bunnies were a lot quicker than she thought they would be. She looked back at her group, catching the new plan. "Yeah, working together should make it easier!"

That was a valid question. This seemed like a lot of work without there being some sort of incentive. Maybe house points? No homework? A break? This was exhausting.

Oh! Claudine hit one! Gemma quickly ran to grab the bunny. The avid animal lover held the fake bunny close to her chest as she carried it back to the cage. Once she was sure it was safe and secured she scanned the room for more pink rabbits.

"Phoebe, I think I spot one over there! Come with me so we can try to conner it!" Gemma slowly made her way around the room, trying not to spook the rabbit.

OH YAY, an OLDER GRYFFINDOR needed Bernadette's help! He probably needed her energy, to be honest, because he was old and therefore slower, and she was young and sprightly and just as fast as these bunnies.

...Or maybe not! An orange bunny went ZOOOOOOMING past Bernadette just as she bounced over to her teammates. She looked past it with wide eyes, like she was watching a tennis match, and turned back to her housemate (Cecelia). "Didjoo see how fast they are?!" Well, DID SHE?!

"You want ME to stick the bunnies?" Bernie beamed at the Ravenclaw boy. "OKAY!" But how did they DO the spell? Oh well, no harm in trying. "COLLO-SHOOOO!" Bernie furiously aimed her wand at an orange bunny, then another: "COLLLLLLLLLLOSHOOOOO!" And one more, without even pausing for breath: "COL-LO-SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
