Default Transfiguration Lesson Two: Induco and Stilus tabella

As usual the door to the Transfiguration class swung open just a few minutes before the lesson was to begin at two pm sharp.

It's a partly sunny afternoon and some of the window are opened a few inches to let in the slight early March breeze. The only difference with today's classroom set up was the tables were set in groups of four suggesting that you might be working with whoever is sat at your table.

Beside the door as you walk in is a table with small bottles of orange juice, apple juice, or water should you be thirsty. There's also a variety of different muffins in sealed boxes that came straight from the houses elves.

Professor Camilla Stewart is sat on the edge of her desk at the front of the room, a bright smile on her face and ready to welcome those that walk through the door. Behind her is a large whiteboard with very simple instructions...

OOC: This is not the first lesson the students have attended this term. If you like your students are welcome to call Professor Stewart, Professor Cami (Camilla) to lessen any confusion between the Muggle Studies professor and herself. Please make yourselves familiar with the Transfiguration and SnitchSeeker rules before posting.

Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.

Noelle wouldn't ever miss a transfiguration class. Even if.... she had a head cold. The cold was getting to her. Running the grounds without a jacket had probably been a bad idea.

So here she was, bundled up with a red nose and sniffling. But she was here.

She hadn't said much, one, because her voice was about gone. And two, because she didn't really have the energy. She was watching and listening though. She was prepared and ready to take notes too.

Noelle sneezed into a hankie and nodded along to what others were saying. Evanesco. That was a good one.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Jessa was standing RIGHT OUTSIDE the Transfiguration door, waiting for it to swing open. It was common for her. Always had to be early for her favourite subject. It proved slightly more useful to her in her experiments than Charms did, earning it the top spot. Not to say Charms wasn't as important because it really was but she liked the added difficulty that came with this one.

Noelle didn't look so good and while she did like the older girl, she didn't like getting sick when there was still so much that she needed done so the Ravenclaw sorta....stood....a few feet away--just in case, but she did offer her a smile.

Finally inside, Jessa turned to find her seat while she greeted the Professor with a cheerful, "Afternoon Professor." To her horror as she searched, it seemed group work would be the order of the day. Nothing could dampen her spirit more (unless class was cancelled altogether). Don't get her wrong, Jessa loved people and working with them but not when it came to important things like her experiments, Transfiguration or some other form of knowledge because the human element, when added, typically allowed for greater error and she didn't wanna deal with that while she was trying to LEARN.

She was enough of a risk already. Didn't need others to make it worse.

With something of a soft huff, Jessa took one of the seats and prayed to Merlin she wouldn't be stuck sitting with anyone who'd ultimately set her back. Circe knew the young girl had no patience for that sort of thing in her Transfiguration lessons specifically.

Not that he wouldn't have anything to write on with him. There really was always a notebook in the back of his trousers. Two on most days, but always at least one. It was common knowledge, given that he had dropped them when fidgeting in class more than enough times.
"Indeed they are, Mr Bronwyn but I'm pleased that you still gave both questions some thought. Rearranging the problem is a good idea as is transfiguring something into paper." Both very good answers as was trying to remember what it was that needed to be written down. A gentle flick of her wand had the answers appearing on the white board beside her.

Professor Stewart added this answer to the board as well. "Invisible ink is a good idea if you didn't want anyone to see what you were writing, should you make it visible again in order to read what you had written it might be a bit hard to do so with something else being written on the parchment before hand." A good answer though.

Either next to, if she'd realised straight away, or above if she hadn't. Surely the Transfiguration Professor knew that from her homework though? Sam didn't see the point in wasting parchment; when she'd first started at Hogwarts, she'd barely had the money for any supplies, and her thriftiness had stayed with her in the years since. The only stuff she re-wrote was her long essays (usually History ones) after her brother had red-penned them. No need for the Professors to see his edits!

So they were doing something involving erasing ink today? Huh. Sam figured that would be more likely a charm. Or a form of invisibility potion.
The next reply was a very simple answer and it earned a smile from the women. "Just make sure not to wash your hand until after you take care of whatever it was written there," she smiled warmly nodding her head. "Crossing it out is a very easy way to correct a mistake." Not very professional for when they were older but as of right now that wasn't a problem.

Though, Zoryn payed close attention afterwards to see what Professor Stewart said because she, too, forgot to do homework.

As for her MOST.AWESOME.EVER. table... She pushed two of her three chocolate muffins to the center. "Chocolate, duh!" Just beaming. This was gonna be such a great lesson!!!!

Only then was her attention pulled back to the front where her Professor stood addressing the class. Hm. The question stumped Zoryn momentarily before she raised her hand. She agreed with Rooney, mostly. "If I didn't have clean parchment, I just wouldn't do it," she nodded. It was reasonable and NOT worth any of the extra work. "But if it was just a sentence, I'd just cross it out and keep going!"

'Cause who cared about writing aesthetic anyway? That was a DUMB thing to care about. Though, she figured that the Ravenclaw Prefect would care. He seemed like the type.
The professor laughed softly at this flicking her wand at the board to add these replies as well as the previous ones given. "Both very good answers but I hope it wouldn't be to much trouble to correct it should it make sense to."

And the way that Ace greeted her and that smile made her stomach feel funny. Butterflies again but this time she didn't blush! AHA! One point to Holden for not blushing but the day still offered plenty of times for her to blush... Most likely. As soon as she took a seat, it seemed like someone else was joining. Oh and Zoryn was here. Olivia gave the younger girl a warm smile as she joined the table.

Wow! Now they had quite a table here. Ace, Sam, and Zoryn. This was going to be fun! To Ace's question about muffin flavours, Olivia spoke up after Zoryn. "I have lemon poppyseed." It was one of her favourite flavors and as soon as she saw it, she KNEW that she had to grab two of them. One to munch on now and one for later.

And class had begun. An interesting question. Hmm... "I'd draw a simple line through the word or sentence and continue writing. If it was pencil, I'd just erase it." The good old Muggle way.... unless there was a magical way to do that? Olivia was all ears. Could they transfigure an old piece of paper into a new one? "Is there a way to take the dirty parchment and change it into a clean one with a spell?"
Hearing that her students were doing well always brought a large smile to this professors face. "That's good. Studying for OWLs, NEWTS or any other exam could be stressful, make sure not to over study, eat decent meals and get proper rest." With this being said she looked around the room to each of the students there not just Olivia. Exams would be happening in a few short months and she disliked seeing the students get themselves all worked up about it.

Ah, another that would correct the problem by drawing a line through it or erasing it. "Crossing it out and continuing on is good but I like the idea of erasing it, much neater." Camilla nodded a smile tugging at her lips again as a question was asked to her now. "Indeed there is and I will be getting to that in just a few moments." That just so happened to be what they were talking about today!

"Oh yes, yes, just fine, Professor. I just I had thought maybe this was a Gryffindor only lesson," she admitted quietly, shaking her head at the foolishness of that. Hogwarts hadn't separated out classes by houses in decades, maybe even in a century.

And then the lesson was starting. What kind of questions were these? Misspelled a word while doing her homework? If she didn't have any clean parchment but needed to write something down? "It'd depend but there is the possibility that I would just repeat the something over and over again until I got clean parchment. Or if there was something different I could write on, then I might do that...." she bit her lip. "I think there maybe is a charm or something that could fix misspelled words." She wasn't sure, but she was pretty sure she'd seen it used before.
Another student making her laugh softly today. "I can't say I blame you with that moment of confusion this afternoon. I myself was beginning to wonder the same thing," she joked smiling at Skylar. There had been a great amount of Gryffindors that came into the room before anyone else had this afternoon.

She was glad to see that even with the difference between the questions she had asked most everyone was taking a shot at answering. A flick of her wand let her and the replies onto the board as she spoke. "Both very good answers and there is a charm that could help with spelling." She wouldn't be teaching any charms here today however.

Huh, wait was class starting already.

Oh, ok. It was and Théo did not know if he understood the questions. She asked a couple questions. Would writing on your hand work. He never tried it with a quill. But at home he did it with pens and stuff. He did not care about misspelled words. He just left those and winged it. Also who cares about how a certain sentance sounded. As long as it was done at all was a success to Théo. Not like he said anything out loud.

Ooo a charm to help with misspells would be awesome.

He would have to ask Chris if such a thing existed.
A quite one. Camilla Stewart smiled at Theo before moving onto the next raised hand. There would be more questions later in the lesson that he could always answer.

The Ravenclaw leaned her chin on her upturned hand as she tried to think on the prospect, listening to her fellow classmates as they offered up their own ideas on the matter.

Rooney had rearrangement magic or conjuring new parchment. Sam had crossing it out as did a couple of Gryffindor girls of various ages. Then there was the charm to fix misspelled words that Cass had to admit could come in handy. “Perhaps using Evanesco or something like it that doesn’t vanish the whole parchment but just the writing.” That seemed to the fifth year it would work.
Using Evanesco was indeed a good concept and Cass was on the right track here. "You're close with saying Evanesco. Vanishing the writing would be very useful."

"Maybe there's a spell that would change the parchment into a brand new one? Or a spell.. that could vanish the writing so that the parchment is new again?" .. eh. They were just guesses and Etta wasn't exactly sure if they were right but at least, she gave it a try.. right?
Bingo! "Very good! There is a transfiguration spell that will do just that and we will be working on in just a few minutes!" Etta's answers might have only been guesses but this was what they would be learning about shortly.

"You certainly could use an erasing spell, Mr Salander." There was no doubt in her mind that many of the older students did just this.

He was faaaaaaaaaairly confident that what the professor WANTED them to say was that they would conjure paper, but Derf was afraid to conjure anything and his feeble attempts at flowers had been, er, awful...so he was not about to suggest that. Still, his hand went up.

"Us-s-se my hand!" he chirped. "Or arm....when I don't have any paper that is. But not my palm s-s-so much because sweat and it smears everywhere and s-s-somtimes rubs-s-s off on my face."
"That's a helpful hint right there, Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne. If you decide to write something on yourself your arm might be the better place to do it rather than your hand." Not that she wanted them to go around writing or drawing on themselves.

Another quiet one. That didn't bother Professor Stewart none as she knew the younger girl was paying attention as always.

With all the answers given listed onto the white board, Camilla looked it over. "These are all amazing answers and I'm super glad that even with the big difference between the two questions I asked you were all able to give me very useful answers." No one panicked and there was a lot of useful ideas here.

"Those of you that suggested vanishing the writing are right on target with what we will be doing today. Actually we will be learning two different spells." She paused a moment. "The first is Induco. This spell allows you to effectively get rid of any writing on a sheet of paper or parchment. Now the thing to remember with this spell is you are changing the parchment into a clear sheet of parchment....or one specific area of parchment into a blank area. Anything you erase is gone, you can not get it to return."

"Let's all start with saying the spell please. It's Induco. 'In-DOO-so', she recited slowly allowing them all time to repeat it along with her. "What you do is point your wand about three or so inches above where you want to begin erasing and continue to move your wand over all the writing you want gone. Like so." Raising her wand at the large sheet of parchment that was on the wall that was covered in drawings and writing, professor Stewart began. "Induco," she spoke clearly moving her wand in a straight line over about three away from what had once been the large writing of the word 'HAPPINESS'. The word began to vanish into a blank area on the parchment.

"You can also use a spell to make words or text appear. That is what else we will be working on today. 'Stilus tabella' allows you to add writing onto a clear spot of parchment. All you need to do is firmly focus on what you want to written on the parchment, say the incantation and move your wand over the area where the words are to appear... keep your wand about three inches above the parchment." Once more lifting her wand to the area of parchment she had previous erased she moved her wand slowly in a straight line while speaking the words, "Stilus Stylus". In large clear letters the word 'FOCUS' appeared.

"What I would like for you all to do is try the incantations and wand movements on your own first. Once you feel like you got it down come on up to the parchment here and erase anything you like and than add something of your own in the empty spot." She trusted everyone to be respectful with their writing. There was more than enough space for everyone to add something of their own.

"Keep in mind while erasing things that you want to focus on the parchment becoming blank again. As for writing you want see in you mind the words appearing, the font you want. You may also speak the words out loud if you choose."

Professor Stewart waved her wand at the whiteboard so that the incantations appeared there along with the wand movements.

Quote:
Incantation: Induco ( In-DOO-so)
Wand Movement: A straight line over the area of words/text you want to make disappear. Keep your wand roughly three inches above/away from the parchment.

Incantation: Stilus tabella (Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a)
Wand Movement: A straight line over the empty spot you want the words to appear. Keep your wand roughly three inches above/away from the parchment.

OOC: Sorry about the late post everyone but here we are with the mini lesson! There was a lot of talking but it's fairly simple... After practicing the spells on their own they can come up to the parchment erase a bit of writing using 'Induco' and than add their own writing using 'Stilus tabella'

I won't be moving on in about 30+ hours. One decent post is fine if you want to fit it all into one post of many little posts, it's up to you!

So three questions which seemed fairly related but not alike enough to have the same answer. Henry could think of several different answers depending on the scenario or just what he felt like doing at the time if any of them happened to him.

Raising his hand, he offered his answer, though much of what he would do was already stated by his classmates. "I guess if it was something urgent, I'd probably write it on my hand or arm." Already said by a couple people. "Or if I really needed to, I could conjure some parchment." Conjuration was one branch of Transfiguration that he had gotten fairly good at with practice.

"But if it was just a word or sentence I didn't like, I'd either cross it out if it was just in my notes, or an erasing spell comes in handy if it's something more important that it look presentable, like an essay." Both were said, he knew, but that's what he would do. Or use an eraser if he was using a pencil, something he did more often in primary school than he did here though.

Okay, so they were moving on. Given the questions, he wasn't too surprised that they'd be working on an erasing spell. Henry knew that one already, but making words appear he did not. So he'd focus on that spell. First he could practice to himself a bit before going up to the big parchment on the wall though.

"Stye-lus ta-Bell-a.. Stilus tabella.." he said to himself a few times, carefully sounding out the syllables to make sure he was pronouncing them correctly. And the wand movement was easy - a straight line over the intended spot. Now, what would he want to say on the large parchment?

Professors were human.

Cornelius understood that. Even though some of them seemed to be a large kid in an old man's body suit. Or a model horribly placed at a school full of psycho kids. Either way, he recognized they were human, and humans make mistakes. Lots of them.

The first mistake here was the water, juices and muffins.

The kid was fifteen years old. He needed his GAINS for Quidditch. If not his arms were going to turn into tiny toothpicks like Rosie's. Although the Slytherin girl could pack up a punch, Cornelius did not want to have dainty arms.

So he needed gains.

Before the lesson started the boy took a water bottle, an orange juice, an apple juice, and a muffin. As he sat down he realized he hadn't had much of a lunch, so he got back up and went to grab another muffin before returning. In front of him now sat a nice snack.

Where was his attention? Well, not on the professor. Food owned his heart, mind and soul right now. Grades? What were those?

Professors were human, and this act of humanity cost them a student. To food. Delicious, scrumptious food.

As first Derf and then Emmeline had joined her at her table near the window, Stasya had given each of them a grin. It hadn’t seemed like the Extendable Ear was coming out, but she’d still left the seat nearest the window for Derf just in case. Plus, Derf’s pocket, or more accurately the Scamander she knew was probably tucked inside, had gotten another grin. But the lesson had started before she was able to answer Emmeline’s question, so she’d just given her a little nod. She’d answer it later. They had time. Lots of it. Even if she had to wait until they were all tucked in for bed. Sharing a dorm was cool like that.

Her attention had gone toward Professor Stewart when the woman had unrolled the BIG piece of parchment. She wanted to know everything that was written there, and in her trying to read all the little sayings and stuff, the discussion had passed before she’d been able to say anything. Although she was fully in the ‘cross the mistake out’ camp. Anyone who looked at her notes would have known that, unless they couldn’t get past the creature sketches in the corners and other open spaces. She didn’t know of any charms or transfiguration spells that would work. Although Derf’s arm thing seemed like a good idea too. Especially when she was out in the barn so she probably didn’t have parchment with her. She usually didn’t take her school bag with her when she went out there unless it was before lessons.

She’d frowned at the explanation about the spells they were learning, though. “What if you didn’t want the writing to disappear forever?,” she asked, raising her hand. “Could you move it somewhere else?” She was just curious. Oh, and could they use the other spell to take notes during class. That was another thing that sort of seemed useful. Sometimes she couldn’t write fast enough to keep up with the discussion, but she could think about the notes.

Practice time. She started with the first spell, thinking about it before she spoke. “In-du-so. Induco. Induco, induco, induco,” she repeated a few times. She was sort of grateful that there weren’t different wand movements to learn. It made things easier. Straight lines were easy, so she could move on to the second spell. The one that made words appear. “Stylus tabella. Sty-lus ta-bell-a. Stylus tabella, stylus tabella, stylus tabella, stylus tabella.”

SUMMER FOREVER

So, like she had expected, they were going to be learning an erasing spell. Interesting. Etta decided to practice the spells first.. although, they looked comparatively easy. She noted down the spells on her parchment first before picking up her wand. Okay. What was the first spell again? Induco? "In-DOO-so.. In-Doo-so.. In-Doo-So.." Etta kept repeating the words until they flowed easily out of her mouth before moving on to the wand movement for the spell.. but the wand movement was just a straight line so that was simple enough. There was no need for practice.

Okay.. so what was the next spell? Stilus Tabella. "Sti-lus Tabella.. Sti-lus Tabella.." Once again, she repeated the incantation a few more times. The wand movement was a straight line once again so that was it. Induco and Stilus Tabella. Ooookay. She got up and made her way to the front of the classroom, standing in front of the parchment that the professor had indicated earlier. Now, what did she want to erase and what exactly did she want to add in it's place? Hmmmm.

Just like she always did while the students were practicing new spells, Camilla Stewart was walking around the room. Doing so made it much easier to keep an eye on who was doing what and who might need a little bit more guidance with the spell.

Students were working around her as she moved up and down the aisles taking her around each group of tables. So far no one seemed to be having trouble but there was a question causing the women to pause near one of the groups. Ah, she was worried about possibly losing something she didn't want to. Understandable. "There is. It's actually a charm but I can show it to you after the lesson is over if you like," Cami offered smiling warmly. She didn't want to confuse anyone if she went over that spell during her own lesson but she had no problem with showing it to anyone once the current lesson was over.

Did anyone else have any questions? Was anyone having any trouble preforming the spell? The professor kept walking around the room to check.

OOC: You're all doing great so far everyone! You all still have about 12 hours or so before I move on again! As always please feel free to jump in or play catch-up with your posts! <3

So they were erasing ink. Compared to some of the Transfiguration tasks, this was actually practical (mouse into a snuff box, anyone?!), and she'd likely to have reason to use it when working on her homework tonight. Getting her thoughts coherent on parchments first time was not one of her strong points.

So, erasing first. She practised the incantation, and as often was the case, her accent as problematic. Although, it least now she could hear the difference in herself. "In-DUU-so. No, DOO...DOO-so. In-DOO-so." And the wand movement was easy enough. She took it from it's holster, and drew a straight line over the parchment she'd started to take notes on.

Before moving on, a question struck her. "Professor, is there a way to like, prevent someone from using this on a piece of parchment?" Like, if you wanted to make sure something was unaltered and in it's original state?

Default A question for Professor Stewart! ^^
Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛

Olivia jotted down a few notes as Professor Stewart began teaching their lesson. Their was a spell to get rid of mistakes that they had made on their pieces of parchment. She wondered if this was legal in an OWLs situation. Perhaps not? She'd ask in a bit. In the meantime, she needed to practice. She wrote a couple of misspelled words on her notes so that when she was ready, she could just turn her attention towards that.

Picking up her wand, she practiced the wand movement of Induco. She took her wand and drew a straight line over the misspelled words on her parchment, making sure to keep her wand at least three inches above the parchment. Alright. Four more times she practiced and then her arm began aching a little. Time to work on the incantation. "Induco. In DOO so. In DOO so. Induco." That one was straight forward enough. Now let's give that a try. She pointed her wand at the misspelled words and drew a straight line over them, whispering, "Induco!" And she watched the words disappear. Awesome!

Now what was the other spell again? Olivia turned her attention back to her notebook. Stilus tabella. Style-lus TA Bell a. Wand movement first. She drew a straight line over the empty spot where the words had just been erased. In her mind, she thought of the correct spellings. She practiced this three times more, making sure to keep her wand at the same height that she had cast Induco from. Alright now the pronunciation! "Stye lus Ta Bell a. Stye lus Ta Bell a. Stilus tabella. Stilus tabella." She practiced the pronunciation at least four more times before pointing her wand at the parchment, thinking of the correct words, and spoke, "Stilus tabella." And she watched the correct words appear. Sweet!

Speaking of questions, Stasya had a great one. As she listened to the Professor's answer, she made sure to write that down in her notes. Now it was time for her question that she wanted to ask. Raising a hand, she waited for Professor Stewart to see her before asking, "Professor Stewart, would a spell like this be allowed in the room for OWL or NEWT examinations?" She doubted it but a question was a question and she wanted to know the answer.

With the entry of the last student, Cami waited another minute or so before flicking her wand in the direction of the door closing it silently. "Let me start off by once again saying good afternoon to you all. I hope everyone is doing well today." She looked at each table smiling her normal warm smile.

Picking up a large roll of parchment that was sat on her desk, Professor Stewart unrolled it. With a flick of her wand she had stuck the parchment up on whiteboard behind her desk. On this parchment was random writings of silly little stories, poems, random words in various shapes, sizes and colors.

"What would you do if you needed to write something down but didn't have any clean parchment on hand? Or perhaps you misspelled a word while doing your homework? Maybe you finished your essay but didn't like how a certain sentence sounded?" How would one fix that problem. Would they simply toss the parchment away and start over? It was a simple question with many answers they could give.
Vivian... actually took a moment to think and weigh the possibilities of her misspelling a word. It happened countless of times, definitely. The Slytherin was a rather clumsy one, who frequently overlooked her written output... unless they were letters to a certain someone, somewhere out there. Usually, Vivian didn't mind the errors at all. But... what if it WAS important? What would she have done?

Well, she was going to be honest here. Vivian raised her hand to share. "In all honesty, Professor, I would have panicked," the Slytherin said, nodding seriously. She was being realistic, and Vivian knew for a fact that she would have flailed and accidentally hit things once she realised a mistake on her writing. "But y'know, given the situation, the second most realistic thing I would have done is rewrite my work in the most untidy and haphazard way possible in order to finish it quickly, unless I learn some sort of charm to correct it with just a flick of my wand." Mhm, you heard it, Professor. A charm. Yuppppp!

She was right! They were going to learn a spell for it. Honestly, Professor Stewart's questions were so obvious sometimes. It always gave away the gist of lesson, for some reason. But anyway, it made Vivian feel smarter. Anyway, they were moving on to the actual practice portion. It sort of escalated quickly, in her opinion, from a simple kicking-the-class-of question to suddenly doing the spell. Whoaaaa, were they in a hurry to finish? Not that the Slytherin minded. She really wanted class to finish so she'd have time to chill at the common room.

But it wasn't juåst for words that weren't necessary. It was for mentally adding words, too! Which was obviously more challenging than simply writing it down, but ought to be important if it were to part of her practical exams or OWLs. Vivian jotted down the incantation, wand movement, and result of the spell down on her parchment, then looked up.

Right... practice. Of course. "Induco... Induco...." For vanishing unneeded words. "In-DOO-so... Induco... In-DOO-so... Induco." Vivian repeated the spell a couple of times for the pronunciation to roll smoothly off her tongue. And she didn't think the wand movement needed any practicing. It was... easy. She skipped that part and moved on to the second wand.

"Stilus tabella... Stilus tabella," she said. This one was rather wordy, Vivian thought. "Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a. Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a... Stilus tabella." She took more time to practice this spell. She secretly disliked incantation with more than three syllables. As for the wand movement, she wasn't going to practice that one. Easy peasy, too.

Hmmm....

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Oh yes, she was definitely paying attention, as disgruntled as she currently may have been. Jessa was busily taking notes of everything her classmates had said and the comments the Professor made thereafter. She had to admit, both spells would prove very useful with her own studies--because what if you wanted to keep the results to yourself? And what if you wanted to FAKE results on the spot to prevent prying eyes from prying any further? Seemed pretty legit to her.

Pretending she was at a table to herself was the only way she'd be able to focus on getting these spells right, so that was exactly what she did.

Didn't matter who she'd ended up next to, the Ravenclaw was in a world all to herself, muttering both incantations and drawing the line in thin air. Over and over she repeated them, until they ceased to sound like real words to her. The 14 year old focused most on her intonation, the intent and the words she thought she may have liked to see before heading up to the parchment the Professor had mentioned.

Before adding anything, she thought it best to remove something, that way she'd have space for whatever it was she wanted there. "Induco!" She said firmly, drawing her wand in a line across the words she wanted vanished. There was only marginal surprise when the word disappeared. In truth, she wasn't surprised when spells like these worked for her straight off the bat anymore because they were simple--when compared to the spells she now made attempts with. THOSE took hours sometimes and a lot of frustration. Her wand might have been happy for these simple ones every now and then. Gave it a reprieve from all the advanced stuff she insisted on trying--because age would never stop her, neither would her year at school. If she needed something for an experiment, she would learn it eventually.

Next, she thought up a word she would like to be added. Only a word. There was space for a phrase but she wanted to use up the spot she'd just cleared and there was only enough room there for the one word. "Stilus tabella." Once again she drew the line, speaking with as much purpose and intent as she could muster and watching with satisfaction as the word "Jessa" came into view.

Such a neat little trick. She'd surely find use for it later.

Y'know what Zoryn appreciated? When Professors put the spells up on the board. It really helped 'cause who wanted to listen to someone talk that much? Not Zoryn, that's who. So she kept herself occupied with her muffin once her Professor began to address the whole class once again. She was only half paying attention to the lesson and half paying attention to her most beautiful chocolate muffin.

This was a good choice.

Once it seemed like the lecture was over, Zoryn took a look at the board and began practicing. "Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a," she started with the second spell since it'd make more sense to write something THEN erase it, rather than the other way around. "Stilus tabella," spells sounded like made up words. "Stilus tabella," after this time she took a break from getting to words out and instead practiced her wand movement. A straight line was easy enough, but she had to make sure to keep it far enough from the parchment BUT ALSO close enough to the parchment. All about balance... Or something like that anyway.

Once she deemed it time to move ahead to the other spell (or rather, once she grew impatient with the current one) she began with the incantation. "In-DOO-so," she tried. "In-DOOOOOOO-so," was that too much? "Induco!" Okay that's all the practice she was gonna do. And the wand movement was the same so there wasn't any point in trying that again.

Instead she went up to the parchment at the front of the room (taking her quill with her just incase) and waited for her turn to write something.

Default catch up
Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler

Emmeline had been paying attention to all of the talking this time. She only had one creature (a niffler, duh) drawn on the edge of her notes to prove it, where normally she'd have doodled at least five different creatures by now. She would have at least tried to answer the professor's questions, but the only thing that had occurred to her that others hadn't said was a Spell-Check Quill so that there were no bad spellings in the first place. Only she was pretty sure that wasn't allowed at Hogwarts, so she just hadn't said anything. She didn't pay much attention to the other answers, though, 'cause all she really did when she messed up was cross things out and throw bad parchment into the fire. She figured everyone else's answers were probably kind of similar to that, so she had time to draw more baby creatures on her notes until the professor started talking again.

TWO new spells today! The first year listened intently to this part of the lecture and tried hard to pay attention the whole time. She chanted the incantations with the rest of the class when Professor Stewart was teaching them how to say them, and practiced the wand movement during some of the talking. A straight line wasn't too bad, really.

When it was time to practice the spell, Emmeline decided to focus on saying the words right and doing the straight-line thing at the same time. She was glad that the professor had written both spells and what they did on the board, because she was super sure she would've mixed their jobs up otherwise and the second one needed lots of focus to work. She straightened up in her seat and practiced: "In-doo-so, In-doo-so, In-doo-so." Saying that spell was easy enough.

The Gryffindor wasn't just going to go straight up to the big parchment when she could say the spells right, though, nope. She wrote the words "blah blah blah" at the bottom of her notes before setting her quill down and withdrawing her wand from its holster again. Focusing on getting rid of the "blah"'s, Emmeline waved her wand in a straight line above the parchment and cast: "Induco!" but only ONE of the "blah"s disappeared! She frowned at it briefly, but by now she knew that most spells didn't work for her the first time she tried them. She had to cast the spell again 3 more times before the remaining "blah"s disappeared, but at least they all did.

She grinned at the blank area of her notes where the "blah"s had been, before scanning the notes on the second spell. First step was to practice saying it right: "Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a, Styl-us, tab-ella," Oops, the second one wasn't right! Emmeline studied her notes again and read off: "Stye-lus Ta-Bell-a", which she repeated 4 whole times before she was ready to try the spell. Except that, by her watch and judging by how many kids had already gone up to the big parchment, she didn't have time to try this one on her notes AND up there.

The first year moved tentatively up to the big parchment and waited her turn to try. Once she was first in line, she walked up closer to the big parchment and decided to erase the word "play", which was written in a small area alllll by itself. She figured that would be easier than a whole sentence or something. Emmeline pointed her wand carefully at the word and moved her wand across it in a straight line while saying as clearly as she could: "Induco!" And it disappeared! Yesss!

Emmeline rocked back and forth a little bit on the balls of her feet as she got ready to try the second spell. This one she hadn't practiced on her own at her seat, so she'd have to try suuuuper hard to get it right now. She wanted to right "cruppies are cool" on the blank area of parchment she'd created, so she tried to focus as hard as she could on those words, moved her wand in a straight line across the blank area and muttered: "Stilus tabella!" Except nothing happened. Emmeline felt her face burn with embarrassment because she hadn't been able to do the spell, but she was quick to try again: "Stilus tabella!" Nothing happened AGAIN.

She forced herself to take several breaths before she even thought about trying the spell again. It was okay, she never got spells the first time, and the second time she'd been kind of embarrassed and wondering if people were staring at her. This time she tried to see "cruppies are cool" in her mind again when she moved her wand across the parchment and cast: [b]"Stilus tabella!" THE FIRST WORD APPEARED!!! Emmeline repeated the spell and the wand movement 3 more times until the parchment read: "cruppies are cool" on the blank spot she'd taken up. Smiling to herself, Emmeline bounced back to her seat. She hoped no one was mad that she'd had to try so many times on the big parchment.

Continuing around the room, Cami once more stopped when another question was asked. This time beside Olivia's desk. "Oh! This is another really good question. Sadly it's not. The exams are charmed with many anti cheating spells. I wouldn't take the risk of using any spells during the written portion of your exam, unless told to do so." She was glad for this question as she wouldn't want any of her students to get into trouble.

*****

Making her way to the front of the room, Professor Stewart sat down on the edge of her desk. Several minutes ticked by as she watched the students come up and erase portions of the writing on the large parchment on the wall and replace it with what they wanted. Several of the students new work made her smile and she nodded her approval.

However it was now time to move on once again. "Alright everyone! Wonderful wonderful job! You've all caught on very quickly and because of that we can move onto our activity!" They were all ready to do that, yes? "Anyone that needs a few extra moments to continue practice can still do that." There was time and no one needed to feel rushed.

Waving her wand at a drawer in her desk a stack of parchments floated onto her desk. Of course the parchments had some writing and some scribbles. "What I want for you to do today is come up and select a parchment." She picked one up and in large letters across the center it said 'BEACH' on it. "What I want you to do is make your own flier or poster about the word written in the center of the parchment. Of course you'll have to erase all the scribbles that don't belong on there. You're welcome to work on your own, with a friend or as a group of four." Hence why they were seated the way they were.

"Keep in mind that when using Stilus tabella how you picture the word or phrase in your head is how it will appear. If you picture the word STAR in large yellow script that is how it will appear!" She laid the parchment back onto the pile once again. "Decide if you're working alone or with some friends and come on up and get a parchment!"

OOC: So here is the main activity! Really simple and hopefully some fun working with a group (or alone). All they need to do is come up, grab a parchment and make a picture/flier/poster having to do with the word written on it. You can make up anything you like...examples are the Beach, Creatures, Foods, Nature ect..

You're free to draw up something and post it here or just simply describe what they're making, it's up to you.

Feel free to still catch-up if you need to. Three posts for this main activity and please number the posts and label if you're working alone/with friends! You have roughly 60 hours!

Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.

Making words disappear off a piece of parchment paper. Seemed useful in some situations. Noelle sniffled and blew her nose before taking a few more notes.

She returned Jessa's smile. The girl was smart to stay away.

Now they were to practice the spell. Merlin, that meant Noelle had to speak and her voice was already hoarse. Plus moving was kind of a chore. Taking a few more notes, and buying herself some time, Noelle moved her notes aside. She sat up a little. "Induco. Induco. IndoACHOO!" .... Noelle wipes her nose and tried again. She was tucked away from everyone else for good reason.

"Induco. Induco. Induco" She said, her voice barely a whisper. She got the words easy enough. Then she practiced the other word. She sniffled a few times and sneezed. "Stilus tabella. S-Stilus tabella. Stilus tabella." if she could stop sneezing, she'd be good.

Okay, now to try. Noelle pointed at one of the parchment papers and accioed it over. It was better than trying to mingle with the others. She didn't want anyone else sick.

Pointing her wand at the paper, she said, "Ind-d-ACHOOO!" ....... Her paper ignited. "merlin's beard!' She said in another broken whisper. She stamped the flames out before tossing that parchment in the rubbish and accioing another. "Induco!" She was able to whisper with her wand movement. The words somewhat vanished. Okay... it was a start. "Induco!" her voice croaked again. This time, the words vanished completely. Good.

❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers

Oh good, she hadn't been alone about all the Gryffindors. At Professor Stewart's reply, Skylar began wondering what house the woman had been in when she was a student. Which was weird, because it wasn't something she had regular considered .... she had assumed Mr Mcleod and Professor Vance were Slytherins, but she reckoned they could have been something else just because they were Slytherin House Heads, didn't mean anything, right? Wasn't Myers a Ravenclaw?

It would have been amusing if Stewart had been a Gryffindor, given that comment, but ... Enough about her professor's houses. Because they were continuing on and it seemed they would be using spells. Of course they would.

Why wouldn't they use evanesco? Was induco more controlled in what it vanished? Also, the thought that she couldn't get it back, well, where did it go? Oh Staysa had asked something of similar, about moving the words elsewhere to be able to get it back and it seemed there was another charm for that. That one actually made more sense to use.

Also, why were they using a charm to add new words? Couldn't they just re-write it? And if they did just use a charm to add words, could they not use this charm for notetaking? Because that would save a lot in terms of hand cramping.

Hearing Noelle sneeze woke Sky up from her distracted musings about the charms and Sky wondered if Noelle was getting sick. Frowning over at the older Gryffindor, she whispered, "Bless you," before returning to the task on hand. Ugh, she hoped the girl was getting sick. Because she was in such close proximity, which meant others might catch it, which meant that she was at risk....

"Induco. Induco." She practiced aloud a few times, before switching to the other one. "Stilus tabella. Stilus tabella." Kind of a tongue twister, if she said it more than once.

"Induco," she said again, this time with the wand movement in play, as she erased the word 'student'. Only she could still see the word faintly on there, which meant it wasn't completely clean. "Induco," she said again, this time more intent and the faint tracings faded.

"Stilus tabella," in that blank spot, she pictured her name 'Skylar' in script lettering. And sure enough, there it was .... Grinning to herself, she grabbed one of the parchments and headed back to her seat before taking a look at it.

Uh ... was this some kind awful prank today? The fourth year's face whitened upon seeing the word. It felt as if she was being inundated and she didn't like it. While technically the word didn't have to do with this particular group of students, maybe because they were on her mind, she automatically associated the word with them. Why couldn't she have gotten beach or something? At least then she could have associated that with Brent.

Instead, with random scribblings all around on the parchment, in clean lettering was a different word: Chivalry

Listening to the whole lesson, Jonas didn't have much to say as he had no idea what anyone was talking about. Mainly because he hadn't been paying attention

Anyways, he went up and got a piece of parchment and got back to his seat. It was interesting the activity that they were going to do today. Creatures...Okay. Let's see. He started to draw and knew what he was going to create. A niffler. That was his favorite animal to draw was a niffler.
Stilus tabella" He said as he was watching everyone else doing the lesson since like he said, he wasn't paying attention.

SPOILER!!: Drawing

OOC: Didn't really understand the visitor messages still, so I'm just winging it.

Ooc:Not my drawing, credits to artist.

Default Derf, Stasya
Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler

Emmeline was listening super carefully to Professor Stewart's instructions for the activity. So they had to make a picture or something based on a word on one of those parchments. Seemed pretty doable to her. Especially since her tablemates, Derf and Stasya, were both good at magic and pretty creative.

The first year bounced up to the stack of parchments and dug through them until she found one that read "Creatures" on it. Perfect! She marched back to her seat triumphantly and laid the parchment in the middle of the table so all three of them could have easy access to it. "Wanna work together, guys?", she asked. Asking was kinda just being polite, though, 'cause she was super sure that they did. Since all three of them were friends and loved creatures, this seemed like the perfect assignment to work together on in Emmeline's opinion.

She decided to go ahead and start removing all the nonsense scribbles from the parchment first, though. She wasn't so great at the spell that created new words, but she had the erasing one down pretty good. Waving her wand over the words other than "creatures", the first year muttered: "Induco! Induco! Induco!" until over a third of the parchment was blank and ready for whatever they wanted to make. She shot her friends a shy smile and asked, "What d'you guys wanna make?" She could think of a million creatures, but the problem was she wasn't very decisive and she wanted it to be something that was cool and that they all agreed on. She figured either Derf or Stasya would have an awesome idea that fit the assignment perfectly. One of them always did.

Now that Henry felt that he knew the incantation well enough, he decided to practice on the large piece of parchment on the wall. Walking up to the parchment, he stood in front of it a moment, looking to see where he should add his own writing. There was already plenty of scribbles, doodles, and words. He didn't really want to erase something of someone else's, but the professor did say to erase something before writing anyway.

The prefect found what appeared to be just scribbles so he drew his wand over it while commanding, "Induco!" And that opened up a clean spot for his writing. He pictured the word Quidditch n his own handwriting as he cast the next spell. "Stilus tabella!" The word appeared, though it started to fade at the end - Quidditch. Hmm. More practice. He erased another spot to try again. This time as he cast Stilus tabella, he pictured specific letters and he smiled to himself as H.W. + C. K appeared on the parchment. That turned out better.

And just in time as Professor Stewart was calling for the class's attention. Make a poster? He wasn't sure about that but he walked up to retrieve a piece of parchment, randomly selecting the first one he grabbed. "Summer." Okay, maybe he could just write words associated with summer on it? That was doable; There was plenty he liked to do during summer.

As the lesson continued, Stasya had blinked. She hadn’t gotten past just practicing even, but she’d sort of scribbled on the edge of her notes and tried the spells on the scribbles. Enough that she felt like she t least could manage the spells good enough to get through the lesson, and as she’d listened to the explanation of the main activity she only got more excited. Creative things were always fun, even if half the time they’d led to disaster more often than not. But she definitely didn’t hold that against Derf, and she’d sent him a grin as Emmeline had gone up to collect a parchment for their table. Obviously they were going to work together, and she hoped Emmeline was going to find an awesome word that they could really make something awesome with.

A giggle slipped out when she had asked if they wanted to work together, too. Of course she wanted to work with them, and as she looked at their parchment that only became that much more obvious. Creatures were their thing. They knew lots about creatures, and people who were important to creatures. Namely, the person who Derf’s newt was named after, so she’d glanced at him again. Specific creature or something else. It was an important question. Or maybe they could create their own new creature. There were way too many possibilities for her to narrow it down to just one.

Was someone sneezing? Camilla was sure she had heard a sneeze come from someone. Rising to her feet to see whom had sneezed so she could get them a tissue if they needed it the women heard yet another sneezed followed by...was that parchment on fire!

Before she could react to it the flames were out and Professor Stewart was able to see who was having the trouble. "Miss Summers, would you like to go see the Healer? I'm sure he can give you something for your cold and you can come right back afterwards?" she asked walking over to where she was sat away from everyone. Surely all that sneezing wasn't making this lesson easy on her.

Turning back to the rest of the class and walking around the room she saw a lot of group work. Very nice. This was what she had wanted. "Very nice everyone! Keep up the good work!" There was still quite a bit of time left to the lesson yet so she wouldn't distract them with how much longer they had right now.

OOC: There's still about 30 hours left for the main activity portion of the lesson if you still want to jump in and play or simple need to catch-up!

Both very good answers as was trying to remember what it was that needed to be written down.

The professor laughed softly at this flicking her wand at the board to add these replies as well as the previous ones given. "Both very good answers but I hope it wouldn't be to much trouble to correct it should it make sense to."

A quite one. Camilla Stewart smiled at Theo before moving onto the next raised hand. There would be more questions later in the lesson that he could always answer.

Using Evanesco was indeed a good concept and Cass was on the right track here. "You're close with saying Evanesco. Vanishing the writing would be very useful."

Bingo! "Very good! There is a transfiguration spell that will do just that and we will be working on in just a few minutes!" Etta's answers might have only been guesses but this was what they would be learning about shortly.

"You certainly could use an erasing spell, Mr Salander." There was no doubt in her mind that many of the older students did just this.

"That's a helpful hint right there, Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne. If you decide to write something on yourself your arm might be the better place to do it rather than your hand." Not that she wanted them to go around writing or drawing on themselves.

Camilla gave Noelle a smile taking note that the prefect looked a bit out of sorts today and under the weather. She was proud to see that even with that the teen was still in class and taking notes.

Another quiet one. That didn't bother Professor Stewart none as she knew the younger girl was paying attention as always.

*****

Tuuuuuuuuning in and out. Iiiiiiiiiiiin and out...which really meant that Derf was left more than a little confused once they started getting into the practical application of the spell. Even MORE so when he finally did properly tune in and he was hearing all sorts of talk about charms. Wait...had he slept walk to his next class?

No. Nope. Still with Professor Stewart. Okay.

Wand out, the second year glanced at the whiteboard and read over the spells...which naturally meant he had questions! His face also dropped looking at that second incantation. Sigh. But fiiiiiiiiiiiiirst...

"Profes-ssoooooor! How does-s-s this s-spell relate to Evanes-sco?" Like like like...was the Vanishing Spell the parent spell? Or was that an obvious question? Probably an obvious one. Too late now though seeing as the words were already out of his mouth. Muttering the incantation to himself under his breath as he flipped through his Transfiguration textbook, Derf mindlessly waved his wand over it. "In-DOO-CO...In-DOO-CO.."

Really, it was the Hufflepuff's own fault for not reading all the way and therefore missing the proper pronunciation portion. Something he would figure out...in approximately five seconds since his haphazard and accidental attempts at practicing the spell had now officially caught his textbook on fire.

Er...well...that certainly was one way to make text disappear, yeah?

He probably shouldn't even bother with the second one just yet. Or ever. The latter seemed the better option.

It wouldn't take more than a minute or two for her to show her the wand movement and teach her the incantation for it.

Shutting his book shut FAST to extinguish the flames, Derf promptly rested his elbow on top of it and his chin in his hand toooooooootally nonchalant-like. Nothing to see here, nope. Only it was written all over his face - and really in the air as little curly q's of smoke were still rolling out from the pages of his book - like the time he had tested mum's hot iron with his hand and then walked around the house whistling about what a nice day it was. He had been caught a few minutes later, obviously, and the tears were instant. He really did not have a high threshold for pain.

Op. Moving on now!

But really, where was this spell when he had tried writing letters to Alice and botched things up with his terrible spelling? Ignoring the fact that he did not even have a wand at the time and was only 5-years old.
SPOILER!!: Stasya & Emmeline <33

"Definitely!" he grinned at the lionesses. He could provide the creative aspect and them the spellwork considering er, well, considering THINGS. Wiggling in his seat and peeking inside his textbook to assess the damage - whatever had been on that page was hopefully not all THAT important - he glanced over at Stasya while Emmeline got to working on cleaning up their parchment. "We s-s-should make a unigorn!" he exclaimed. Both his friends were into unicorns and it was kinda a thing to try and find the unicorn family they had encountered in Runes - Derf was totally going to help with this because of his friend Thereos, you know - and Stasya liked goats.

Why should they do that? Because it was be interesting. That was really all he had.

Although he supposed making some sort of general PSA about things was a good idea too.

"OR...we could make a pos-ster for the remaining Hogwarts-s-s champions-s? Or just a general Team Hogwarts-s pos-s-ster. Oooooor...s-something to promote international magical cooperation...OH OH OH! Liiiiiiiiiiiike...draw the house mas-scots-s all EIGHT hous-ses being all friendly and s-s-stuff!"

Noelle wiped her nose with her hankie. She breathed out, determined to finish this lesson.

But then Professor Stewart caught her.

She gave a smile to the professor. "Thank you, but no thank you. Ill finish up and then go to the healer. I wanna finish this stuff first." She was honestly a little worried about coming back. Her schedule was one that was crowded a lot.. she didn't have enough time to bak track. "Thank you though. I c-can... " Pinches her nose to hold in a sneeze. "I can manage." She said in a hoarse whisper, managing to hold that sneeze in.

Turning back to her work, Noelle pointed her wand at it and said, "Stilus tabella" in a hoarse whisper before another sneeze could come up and watched the word determined come up on the parchment. She looked at the professor with a grin.

Since she had that done... time to start the main activity.

Noelle went to a corner of the big paper where it was pretty empty of people. She sniffled and wiped her nose again before pointing her wand at the corner of the parchment. "In----" Merlin... here comes another sneeze. She pinched her nose and held it in. Giving herself another moment, she waited until she didn't feel a sneeze coming on to try again. "Induco!" She said in a hoarse whisper, pointing her wand at the parchment. She watched some of the words disappear. Good. It was a start.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

So they were gonna be making posters of sorts. Jessa wasn't sure if she'd categorized it with the sing-a-grams and word searches from Charms and Muggle Studies respectively but she would admit it came awful close. By that, she meant it was unlikely she'd ever do it again on her own time, of her own free will.

The spells themselves were proper useful, yes, but not in the particular contexts provided. It was just as well, the Ravenclaw typically found her own use for spells once she was introduced to and done learning them.

Again, she got up and went to get a piece of parchment from up front. This one had the word "food" on it. Nothing too incredibly hard there. She just had to think up a design that would allow for it to be obvious it was the word--more obvious than the fact the word would be written right there.

"Induco." While she thought up how she would like the word to be written, Jessa went about erasing all the extra lines that were most certainly not needed. She drew the line across the lines with precision, being sure not to miss a single one. "Induco!"
