The house-elves have been hard at work, leaving the Great Hall spotless, the tables set with pristine silverware, and delicious smells floating up from the kitchen. Your stomach might be growling, but it isn't quite time to eat yet.
Hopefully the Headmaster will make his speech before you chew your way through your House table.
Mainly Jace.. but a few mentions of other people..

Forming new friendships with our teachers won't hurt." he said with a shy grin, and nudged Azura ever so lightly.
The third year Ravenclaw turned his head towards the dais as he saw the Headmaster rise up to give his Opening Speech. Jace gave Azura a light tap on the arm and gestured his head towards the man. The thirteen year old listened, and tried to memorize the new faces with their names and what subject they'd teach. "Does Hogwarts get an annual staff overhaul?" he asked Azura while keeping his eyes on the man. The next thing he knew, he stood up with the rest of the student body to pay his respects to a former Headmaster who already passed on. The name sounded wise, Jace thought. It was too bad he didn't get the chance to meet him.
With the speech over, Jace was back to his seat and as soon as he did so, food finally appeared. Jace's stomach made a grumbling sound at the sight, but his mind kept wandering off to the thought of sipping a nice warm seaweed soup. "The train, you said? What...happened? I dozed off while on board..." he continued as the teenager reached out for a chicken leg with his knife and fork when an unmistakable giggle erupted from nearby. Jace was quick to react, releasing his eating utensils and covered Azura with his robe like a cloak as he got doused in red, sticky liquid coming from above.
Jace kept his calm, slowly breathing in and out as he flicked the ketchup that slowly ran down his eyebrow. As he did so, Jace took notice of Professor Hirsch but decided against getting help from him. He didn't want his attention...unlike the others. He can manage to clean himself up like a true, bright wizard.
Azura smiled warmly over at Jace as he spoke and she nodded.. "He will be very much missed." Their Former Head of House was indeed a warm and caring man and Azura had been very fortunate to have met him. Now she wanted to send him a letter.. She was still in the midst of these thoughts when Jace spoke again and she nodded.. "Well, of course I will give them a chance.. I'm not going to instantly write them off.. I just miss everyone else." She returned his smile and his slight nudge made her smile even wider.. She had missed her friend.
Jace's tap made Azura turn her attention torwards the Headmaster as he made his speech, she liked him as well. He was very kind and she was glad he was still here at least. She watched him before smiling a bit at Jace's muttered words.. "I don't know but it seems like it hmm?" She muttered back right before they all stood up and bowed their head in silence at the news of the departed headmaster. That.. was so sad. She could feel feelings rush through her at the thought of her own mother's "death" last year and she bit her lip.. her thoughts going out to the people who knew him and were close to him.
They sat back down and Azura sort of stared at the food, she wasn't exactly hungry.. and she looked around for a moment, as she saw one of her fellow dormmates.. and another smile went to Kitty..
She turned her attention back to Jace.. "Oh well.. you see...." Azura was about to answer when Miffy was suddenly dumping ketchup all over them!!
Oh for the love of all the Fwoopers.. One feast! Couldn't they have one feast!! However.. soon a black robe covered her vision and she realized that Jace had covered her from being drenched in the sticky liquid..
"Thanks Jace." She said as she emerged from the robe and shot her friend a grateful smile.. a bigger smile crossed her face as Professor Hircsh came over to help them out! He was their new Head of House?? So.. maybe this year wouldn't be that bad after all?
Colt made his way to the ravenclaw table because he had a mission. He was going to tell Hady his crazy plan. He wanted to do this term with a bang. He got the claw table and searched for Hady. He beamed when he saw her and walked over to her. He tapped her shoulder and said, "Hey soo I don't have long till the feast ends but I got an idea for ya. Since I want to start this term with a bang, I want to do like a chocolate slide. You in?" He knew it sounded crazy but Hady knew about his craziness.
He waved when he saw Janelle and Azura. Man he forgot about other people besides in Slytherin. "Hey Janelle." He then turned to Azura and waved yet again. "How's it going?"
Still grinning widely at the fact Sir Knight was her new Head of House, Hadley sat back down at her plate. The food here, as always, was top notch. She'd just taken another bite when someone tapped her on the shoulder. Hads turned to see Colt standing there, wild with excitement. It was positively infectious.
"A chocolate slide?" She repeated once her mouth was no longer full of food. Okay...this was...ugh. Hadley had promised herself, her Mom and Rachel she wouldn't get into any trouble at the start of term feast, but come on? A chocolate slide! How could she say no to that? But she did promise, so...and Hirsch. But he usually liked her antics so maybe. Hadley's eyes lingered a second on her Head of House and then drifted back to Colt. It was just too tempting. "I'm in."

Lady Helena say there, poised, until a young eagle's voice caught her attention. Ah, yes, Jace. This was the very same bright minded eagle who'd taught her a word or two in the past. She turned a curious eye towards him because of the words he'd uttered. The thirst for knowledge was great but her lady didn't like being confused. "Konbanwawa, to you too, Jace." Now, explain what that meant?

In the end, she headed towards The Grey Lady, greeting her warmly.
Here came another bright young eagle. Her ladyship smiled in return to the enthusiasm this young child displayed. Such enthusiasm, such willingness to learn. She looked like she'd make good company. "Hello, Miss Riley. Care to join me?" She would shimmy over sideways if it wasn't for the fright that she could shimmy right through another eagle.

Ah, yes. Here was a student she'd been looking forward to greeting. The girl wasn't part of her house but one heard things. "Hello, Hady. I believe congratulations are in order?" She nodded towards the Head Girl badge. "My deepest congratulations. I dearsaay you suit the role." It was a shame she hadn't been sorted into her house.

HOW RUDE!!!!!

*GIGGLE*
"MISSED ME, LOVELIEEEEEES?"
Away she swooped after her lover-geist.
That incessant giggling. It was bad enough that this travesty of a woman was permitted to stay but need she come to the feast as well? Helena's eyes narrowed at the sight of her and never left her as she went about her business. Dark grey patches rose in her cheeks but she said nothing. Unfortunately, she could do nothing to stop this since she was a mere ghostly figure.
When Miffy flew away, Helena sat up a little straighter but her eyes stayed on that woman.

Besides, the students around him seemed like a friendly bunch, and there was lots of friendly banter. He'd be fine. Someone was bound to talk to him eventually.
And in the meantime, there were roasted potatoes...
With her eyes on Miffy, she was able to notice the new eagle who approached the table. She gathered herself up to resume her usual behaviour before greeting the newcomer. "Hello, and welcome to Ravenclaw. I'm Lady Helena, the house ghost." Grey Lady was another nickname that passed around as well. "I do hope you enjoy this house."

The feeling Miffy had left behind was disappearing now. The Eagles made sure of that. "Hello, Miss Cassie," she said, shooting the girl a warm smile. This girl had manners. She was very fond of that. "How was your summer? Are you ready to get back to some learning?"

Ravenclaw house had certainly gained some polite, respectable members, it seemed. This made her ladyship happy and she was certain it would make their new Head of House happy as well. "You're very welcome." It was impolite of her not to introduce herself, wasn't it? "I'm Lady Helena, resident ghost of Ravenclaw Tower." Who was he?

The Grey Lady approached their table , displaying a grave countenance , she was clearly unpleased with the boy's attitude. The whole scene was somehow amusing to Bloom
And upon seing the grey lady sit , Bloom felt the urge of going to greet her and immediately told Kitty : " say Kitty , do you mind if i go greet the Grey Lady for a minute ? "
Hm? Helena turned her head when someone called her name. Ah, yes. Yes yes. "Hello, Kitty. I believe congratulations are in order for the new appointment." A bold choice, if you asked her, but the Grey Lady hoped this would aid the young girl. Picking duels with poltergeists wasn't worth it, Kitty. "You will do well, I'm sure."
A smile was given to the young Ravenclaw and then to her friend. "Hello, and welcome to Ravenclaw. I hope you enjoy being in the wisest house of them all."
Still grinning widely at the fact Sir Knight was her new Head of House, Hadley sat back down at her plate. The food here, as always, was top notch. "Well we wouldn't do it here.." he said gesturing toward the hall. "I think we would get detention for sure I was thinking we go to the playground and do it on that slide and make it bigger." He took a pause to let the idea to sink into Hady's brain. He then went with the other ideas, "So what I need is for you to collect all the chocolate possible, so we can go to the house elves after the feast is over and ask them to help us..?" What did she think. He got his wand out and played with one of the chocolate frogs. He grinned with the idea. He flicked his wand and landed the chocolate frog on her face.
This was calm? "Ohhhhkay." Hads readjusted herself in her seat just in case anymore of his calm limbs went waving about again. She shuddered to think just how he was when he wasn't calm.
Wait...baby? No wonder the kid was so excited. It made sense now. "So you're a big brother now?" Just like Ace was going to be. "That's cool. Are you excited? When was your sister born?" He said his mom just had her but that could be anywhere from just this second to 3 weeks ago. "What's her name?" That was important too.
She glanced over at the Gryffindor table where there was another, future big brother as well. "What's Professor Newton doing at the Gryffindor table?" she asked absently. Did that...did that mean he was the new Gryffindor HoH? So that left Hirsch open to be their HoH. Please please please let it be Hirsch!
WELL, this was fun! "yea! Well, I already am. I have a little brother, Levi. He's 9. He'll be here next term but my sister her name is Lilia and she was born just today. My aunt had to take me to the train and I didn't want to come but at the same time it sucks to be Levi because mum and dad are gonna depend all their time with Lily and not him and I get to be here." he took a Large breath after that one and went for some water.
He shrugged several times, his shoulders bouncing in unison. "I'm not sure what Professor Newton is doing. We can go ask him!?" that was a grand idea. Come on friend!
Apparently Kitty saw the Grey Lady too , because she immediately waved at her and greeted her . The Grey Lady turned her head toward them and congratulated Kitty on her new position. She then smiled at Bloom and welcomed her. This made Bloom momentarily stand up , her ladyship was someone you feel immediate respect for , and so she replied : " Thank you madam , it's a great honor to be in Ravenclaw and a privilege to meet you , my name's Bloom Hatter"
But upon turning to Kitty , Bloom was surprised to find her standing and looking upset . she turned her eyes the way kitty was staring and saw an unfamiliar ghost floating away with a light , nervous laugh.
" Is everything ok, Kitty ?" she finally said.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Who was he?
The newest addition to the Ravenclaw House wiped away the ketchup from face as he looked at a man approuching their table. Obviously he would be one of the Professor's and if Mason had to guess he would be their Head of House.
Still, even if he offered to help get rid of the ketchup, it was somewhat embarrassing if a fifth year did not know how to clean themselves up so taking out his own wand he began to siphon the liquid from his head to show he was placed in the right house and could take care of things by himself.
and totally not to show off

As Mason arrived at the table and gave her a wave, Janelle waved back. Raising her voice slightly, to reach him across the table, she said, "Hey Mason, welcome to Ravenclaw!" She hoped that in addition to a new housemate, she'd have a new friend and ally.
Fresh and clean again. Okay maybe not that fresh because he still needed to take a shower after that long train ride, Mason smiled as Janelle congratulated him on being sorted."Thanks!" he shouted from the other side of the table. "we need to hang out some times, deal?" cause being the older new kid meant he had zero friends and that wasn't good.

The way the House ghost acted and spoke made him actually sit more upright to show that he would be worthy of the House of Ravenclaw. "Nice to meet you, Lady Helena" She was Ravenclaws daughter wasn't she? He remembered reading something about the founders of Hogwarts in A History of Magic. "My name is Mason Winslow, how was your summer? And Are you bound to this school forever as a ghost or can you leave whenever you want?" cause it must be boring being almost alone in this big castle when the students and staff weren't there...

So she had her badge for the first time. Not knowing what it would be like but Mason could guess that it would be both rewarding and stressful to hold such responsibility. "Why were you surprised?" he asked. Didn't school leaders usually know they'd become one even before getting the badge? "I'm sure you'll be fine plus i heard we have two prefects so if you get too stressed out just give the other the problems to deal with" he laughed because that was the worst advice ever.

Jace kept his cool as he felt his appetite slowly turn foul to non-existent. Thanks to all the drama and the shouting going on, he's decided to just retire in his dorm with nothing in his stomach. Jace slowly took out his wand and started to siphon the ketchup from his person. "Tergeo." Thank Merlin for advanced reading, yeah? Jace took empathy in the fact that him being a Ravenclaw is dead useful in such situation.
Mid-way, the half-Japanese couldn't help but have his attention towards the Hufflepuffs who surprisingly lost their calm and went on to have some sort of face-off with the Bloody Baron. Jace knew it wasn't a wise move since according to their History Book, the Bloody Baron is the only ghost in the castle who can take care of the school poltergeist and its plus one. Jace closed his mouth when he heard the Slytherin ghost start his debate. Et tu, Friar? Nope, that doesn't sound good at all.
Points were given by the Hufflepuff Head of House, and points were deducted by the Slytherin Head of House. Merlin. The Opening Feast is really something, yes? Too bad Jace wasn't in the mood to entertain the political thought that was slowly forming in his head. Nope. Tonight isn't a good feast. Can they even call it one? Jace turned to Azura and gave her a nod of his head. "You're welcome." he said in a tired tone. The thirteen year old picked his utensils up and placed it neatly on his plate. "I don't think I have the appetite to eat tonight..." he continued apologetically, and felt bad about the night turned out. "I'll...I'll go ahead, Azura. I'll see you tomorrow before our first period..." he said wanting to hide under the table in embarrassment. He truly wanted to hear her story, but it seems that the feast is the wrong time and place for it. "Good night."

Konba wha-what? Jace turned to where Lady Helena was, and he cracked a shy grin for her. It seems that she's forgotten how to properly say it? "Kon-ban-wa, my lady. It means good evening in Japanese." he said slightly bowing his head to her. As he took another moment to look at their House Ghost, Jace can't help but glance at the Bloody Baron who floated away from the Great Hall. Merlin, even in the after life they still hold grudges, yeah? "If you will excuse me my lady, I shall take my leave now and retire to bed." he said as he stood up and bowed to the House Ghost.
Jace gave Azura one last tug on her sleeve, and he was off to the Ravenclaw Tower.
